[Bug 474861] Re: 0.7.2 is severely broken in Karmic
Hi there, Thanks for the bug report. I'm trying to confirm this problem, but I'm having a problem reproducing it. Is there any more information you could provide regarding duplicating the issue? This is a big problem when, for example, I want to install a lot of TrueType font packages, as I do now. Did your message actually get sent? It looks like that segmentation fault you experienced might have been related to the connection with the IMAP server. [Bug 453444] Re: /var/log fills up with "all normal" messages @ about 575/sec fill up the available space
As a temporary fix I can suggest setting up a separate partition for /var/log. Say about 300 megs to a gig depending on the hdd size. Now this will probably require non-primary partitions to be setup, but at least it will keep the logs at bay until the patch is out. The other solution is more involved, solving the overheating issues, in my case resulted in a disassembly of the laptop, removal of 3 mm thick layer of dust from the heat sink and replacement of factory heat pads with thermal grease. Now running 30 Degrees C cooler (down to 54C from 85C). No more monster logs. Unfortunately in the process I killed the keyboard. [Bug 455167] Re: Ubiquity should put install image onto target disk for apt's use
apt-cdrom does NOT work this way. It keeps insisting that I mount a physical CDROM, even when the image is mounted, even when I passed -m and -d /mnt/ubu910 to apt-cdrom add. It's just broken for use with ISO images. And if you leave an apt-cdrom entry in /etc/apt/sources.list, it screws up all possibility of using apt-get. It insists on getting everything from the CDROM, and when you don't have a CDROM, it doesn't just go on and use the network -- it keeps looping, insisting that you mount a CDROM. Maybe bandwidth is free for Canonical, but if it isn't, I really recommend fixing this stuff, so that people can just install 95% of the packages from the DVD image that they already have, without having to suck the identical package over the Internet. -- Ubiquity should put install image onto target disk for apt's use https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/455167 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 475020] [NEW] Laptop freezes when connected to 802.11 N wpa/wpa2 network
Public bug reported: I have a single network running with multiple wireless access points. All are running wp2 personal encryption. When i connect to the B/G network, I can connect, get moderate transfer speeds, and the connection is stable. If i connect to the N network, my connection is spotty, my throughput is about the same as when on G, and my machine will lock up hard eventually. [Bug 474629] Re: Firefox 3.5.4 Will Not Load Most Pages Using 'Karmic' Via Verizon Wireless DSL - DOES Load Them Using Wireless Dial-up Account
Dear Mr. Kluyver, First let me apologize if I offended anyone. I am not familiar with the ways of Ubuntu Bug Groups and, frankly, I'm a bit desperate as both my wife and I depend to a great deal on our computers (as I'm sure do most people here). In any event, I did try both Epiphany and SeaMonkey - and neither would load any pages, even though I was DEFINITELY connected to the internet. (This was also via my wireless router and Verizon DSL.) A member named Actionparsnip told me how to rename Mozilla to remove the Firefox I had been using and replace it with a "new" one. At first, that new one would not connect either. But then I turned off the computer and left it off for several hours. I turned it on again after dinner to do something else (playing a CD) and, after that was done, I tried Firefox again. Lo and behold, it worked - and it's still working. Now why would this happen? Before I could load SOME pages (connect to some sites) but NOT all - when using my wireless router connected to Verizon DSL. (I could connect to most Ubuntu sites - and I could even connect to the Voice of Russia World Service's home page[!] but I could NOT connect to Google, Amazon, Refdesk, and most others I tried.) However, when using my other wireless routed connected to EarthLink dial-up service, I could load any page I liked. Same Firefox, same wireless on the computer itself, but different results with Firefox! I think that's strange, to say the least. And why now, after several hours, is Firefox working perfectly? Did my computer need nap-time? I'll know more tomorrow morning when I attempt to use Firefox to get my e-mail. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!! Thanks for your interest and comments. [Bug 459275] Re: hp-fax-cups.ppd.gz missing driver
Till Kamppeter, thanks for the suggestion, it helped but my printer still will not fax. Error code 3002 means no dial tone or no answer. I can confirm that the fax is not going "off hook" to obtain dial tone. The driver waits, then produces error 3002. If I go to the printer/fax and manually dial a number, the fax works. If I launch a fax from Windows Vista, it works. I can't comment on previous versions of Linux as Kubuntu 9.10 was my first install a few days ago. Observations: 1) After installing hplip-cups my existing printer no longer worked, even though the setup found the fax afterwards. I deleted the printer and fax and rebooted. I reran hp-setup and the printer and fax were found. It printed until I rebooted again, then nothing. 2) After hp-setup completed I noticed the device uri was: hp:/net/Officejet_Pro_L7500?zc=HP7580, I had to change it to: hp:/net/Officejet_Pro_L7500?ip=10.10.0.157 by adding the ip address afterwards. I did this for both the printer and fax. This fixed the communication issues. 3) Applied your suggestion and changed the Make and Model for the fax to HP Fax hpijs, then went and checked the printer and noticed that it has selected HP cups as well, I changed the printer Make and Model to HP Officejet Pro l7500 hpijs, 3.9.8 I could not properly print, scan but no fax. No firewall is running Ran hp-check -r and 3 errors reported, but the fax and printer configuration came up OK. Here are the errors reported: Checking for CUPS... Status: scheduler is running error: Version: (Not available. CUPS may not be installed or not running.) Public bug reported: Kubuntu release: 9.10 64-bit & 9.04 64-bit Kernel version: 2.6.31-14-generic & 2.6.28-16-generic IGP: Nvidia GeForce 8200 (ECS GF8200A (V1.0)) CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5050e Problem: I'm getting random hard lockups on a fresh install of Kubuntu 9.10. When these lockups occur, my entire screen turns into a single, solid color. The color varies from brown, white, blue, black, etc. My keyboard is unresponsive--no led's. I have to hit the reset button to reboot. The lockups can occur when I'm watching a video, browsing the web, downloading files, etc. I have no idea what triggers it. My computer is rock solid on Kubuntu 9.04 with kernel 2.6.28-15. After I upgraded the kernel to version 2.6.28-16, I started having lockups. I downgraded back to 2.6.28-15 and now it's stable again. I then installed 9.10 on a separate partition but the lockups came back. Before I switched to Kubuntu 9.04, I was running Arch Linux and was experiencing the same problems. Here are some kernel parameters I have tried with no luck: *idle=poll *maxcpus=1 *all combos of noapic, irqpoll, and pci=routeirq *noapic pci=assign-busses apicmaintimer idle=poll reboot=cold, hard *noapic nolapic ProblemType: Bug .etc.asound.conf: defaults.pcm.device 3 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: max2221 F kmix CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory Card0.Amixer.info: Card hw:0 'NVidia'/'HDA NVidia at 0xfbf78000 irq 21' Mixer name : 'Nvidia MCP78 HDMI' Components : 'HDA:83847645,10192814,00100402 HDA:10de0002,10de0101,0010' Controls : 41 Simple ctrls : 25 Date: Thu Nov 5 11:13:17 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=8c328122-8f9d-41c3-98f0-1de5c982e35c InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" - Release Candidate amd64 (20091020.2) IwConfig: lono wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. [Bug 472602] Re: usb devices and dvd/cd-rom not mounting on startup
It's related to virtualbox libraries or dependencies for sure. I uninstalled, and then I run sudo apt-get autoremove to get rid of its dependencies. Reboot and everything was ok, tried many boots and reboots and things were sweet ... After I reinstall virtuabox and reboot, bang, it wasn't mounting again! This time I even reinstalled virtualbox-ose ... So, really a BUG, i guess ... -- usb devices and dvd/cd-rom not mounting on startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/472602 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 471837] Re: ubiquity crashed with InstallStepError in configure_ma()
Hi, I try this option and indeed it seems to work better. The installation finishes and it tells me to carry on working on the live CD or to reboot. Problem: After the reboot grub is not offering 9.10...only my 9.04 which is on another partition of the disk I did see just before the end that it was updating grub..
