[Bug 478973] [NEW] expiration functionality of FreeRADIUS 2.1.0 is broken
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: freeradius Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 currently use FreeRADIUS 2.1.0. That version of FreeRADIUS has broken expiration functionality. The latest version 2.1.7 is not broken. An example is below. I discovered this in Ubuntu 9.10 Server Edition using package freeradius 2.1.0+dfsg-0ubuntu7. Then, on a different computer, I found it also in Ubuntu 9.04 Server Edition. Then, on a third computer, I built 2.1.0 and 2.1.7 from the original upstream sources and found that 2.1.0 has the bug but not 2.1.7. I am trying to setup a production FreeRADIUS server on Ubuntu 9.10 Server Edition and I need the expiration functionality. I request that the freeradius package be upgraded to a working version. Re: [Bug 120375] Re: cannot boot raid1 with only one disk
Hosed wrote: Hi, I have Ubuntu 9.04. I have Two (2) 36gb Seagate Cheetah with Raid 1 - Mirroring Setup. When I boot to Ubuntu 9.04 with One (1) of the hard disks unplugged, it fails to boot, it drops me to a shell with initramfs. What's the deal with that? Does it mean that Raid1 is NOT WORKING with Ubuntu 9.04? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Hi, I had a similar issue on Friday: a disk failed on a raid 1 ubuntu 9.10 system. After shutdown I removed the failed disk and added a new one. While booting I got an initramfs shell, as in your case. In my case the instructions on screen said that the system requested me whether to boot with a degraded array (y/N) or not and that and I did not answer quickly enough to the question, so, after timeout, it brought me the initramfs shell. To be honest I never saw that question on screen and the reason was that the splashscreen covered it. So I just rebooted and pressed 'y' some times when the splashscreen appeared and then the degraded boot started as expected. After that I had to manually partition the new disk (I have 2 different raid1 systems, one for /boot, one for / ) and add each partition to the raid system: sfdisk -d /dev/sda | sfdisk /dev/sdb # partition sdb as sda mdadm /dev/md0 -a /dev/sdb1# add sdb1 to the raid1 system md0 (/boot) mdadm /dev/md1 -a /dev/sdb2# add sdb2 to the raid1 system md1 (/) WARNING: this worked for my setting so don't take them as general instructions! If you have a mirroring setup than you could need just to add sdb1. After this the new disk sdb started syncing as expected. [Bug 479092] [NEW] GNOME server list can't see Samba with 13+ characters names
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: samba When browsing the network through Places - Network and accessing my local server, I can't see all my Samba shares. It seems I can see only share names that have at most 12 characters in their names. I have the following shares : - chibadocuments (14 chars) - chibagames (10 chars) - chibamusic (10 chars) - chibapictures (13 chars) - chibavideos (11 chars) - downloads (9 chars) - torrents (8 chars) When browsing the server, I can't see chibadocuments or chibapictures. If I rename them (e.g. chibapictures - chibapicture) and restart Samba, they are visible. It seems the limit is 12 chars. The server uses Ubuntu Karmic (9.10) 32 bits desktop edition, fresh install. My main client uses the same except it is the 64 bits version. I have another client on Windows XP SP3 which sees all the shares with no problem, so I guess it doesn't come from a limitation in the Samba protocol. Manually connecting to the missing Samba shares through Places - connect to a server works with no problem. Not sure if the problem what already present in Jaunty or older as I used different share names before I switched to Karmic, nor if it happens too in KDE, XFCE or other desktop environments. [Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)
Ditto, gvfs is Gnome-centric and this is an underlying system issue. The network:/ and smb: protocol in KDEs Dolphin works well enough but for instance, Amarok doesn't allow music collections to be used via smb:/ but does handle Samba mounts via mount.cifs. fusesmb also doesn't do much as it dies when Amarok tries to scan music on the fuse mountpoint. In KDE, I found a workaround is to create a shell script that unmounts the mount point that has been mounted with mount.cifs e.g --- #!/bin/bash umount.cifs /path/to/media --- * Make it executable by your user and put in it your home directory (or whereever you like) * Choose System Settings Advanced AutoStart * Choose Add Script and select the script. In Run On select Shutdown. When you log out of KDE now, the mount point will be unmounted. The opposite can be done on log in by mounting on Startup -- using a shell script calling mount.cifs with the required options instead. It works for me and my laptop properly shuts down now. Doesn't fix the underlying bug though. Which brings up another question - would it be possible for NetworkManager to bring up down configured mount points as part of it's configuration/settings ? That way, it unmounts just before bringing the network down and mounts the filesystems after bring the network up ? A simple checkbox would suffice e.g Control Network Shares -- Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211631 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 440685] Re: -enableassertions -server not working with tomcat 5.5.26 in Ubuntu 9.04
Reproduced with OpenJDK / tomcat6 / Ubuntu 9.10 The issue here is that you are not passing java options, but jsvc options. jsvc accepts -X and -D options and passes them to the underlying JVM. It does not recognize -enableassertions or -server (see man jsvc). It recognizes -ea for -enableassertions though (undocumented, found in 1.0.1 release notes). Note that OpenJDK uses -server by default so it should not be needed if you used OpenJDK. Not sure about Sun's JVM, but it might have the same default. So this is not a bug, but maybe we need to document that a little better since the name is misleading (JAVA_OPTS). ** Package changed: tomcat5.5 (Ubuntu) = tomcat6 (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: tomcat6 (Ubuntu) Importance: Low = Wishlist ** Changed in: tomcat6 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Summary changed: - -enableassertions -server not working with tomcat 5.5.26 in Ubuntu 9.04 + Make it clearer that JAVA_OPTS is about JSVC options ** Description changed: - Binary package hint: tomcat5.5 + JAVA_OPTS is somewhat misleading since it is JSVC options and not all + Java options are recognized, which leads to bug reports like : I put that in /etc/default/tomcat5.5: - JAVA_OPTS=-Xmx1024m -enableassertions -server -XX:MaxPermSize=512m -XX:+CMSPermGenSweepingEnabled -XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled -Djava.awt.headless=true But I got this message: - Invalid option -enableassertions Then I move to: - JAVA_OPTS=-Xmx1024m -ea -server -XX:MaxPermSize=512m -XX:+CMSPermGenSweepingEnabled -XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled -Djava.awt.headless=true and I got: - Invalid option -server Then, if I remove '-server': - - JAVA_OPTS=-Xmx1024m -ea -server -XX:MaxPermSize=512m + JAVA_OPTS=-Xmx1024m -ea -XX:MaxPermSize=512m -XX:+CMSPermGenSweepingEnabled -XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled -Djava.awt.headless=true - tomcat finally start. + tomcat finally starts. [Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)
@James : That would be awesome and exactly what I'll propose to the networkmanager list (when I get round to it). @Sixela : As H3g3m0n notes, the bug is still apparent on WIFI systems. In general, worth noting another reason gvfs shares don't always work out - nautilus won't process thumbnails for remote filesystems by default and it considers gvfs mounts as remote (fair enough). Meanwhile, fstab filesystems aren't considered remote. It's not feasible in my case to turn on previewing in all remote systems, since if I use my laptop at work, it'll connect to systems where a preview of the files would not be desirable (too slow). -- Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211631 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 67497] Re: Claims success when backup fails
I think I have reproduced the behaviour again on BackupPC 3.0.0-4ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 8.04.3 Following the description: Results are /etc/ Backed up where permissions are liberal enough to allow reading the files The fstab for example has -rw-r--r-- 1 root root Enough for tar to read it. Restores Fail. BackupPC reports this. The shadow file for example - fails to get backed up entirely and does not even show up in the browse backups area even as an empty file. -rw-r- 1 root shadow /home has the same type of behaviour. Only by how liberal the default umask is, are users home directories able to be backed up. Tied down permissions will result in missing files with no errors reported. For my user mwalker a good example of this is that my .ssh folder does not feature in the Backups. But everything else with liberal perms does. Failure does not result and the Backup does not stop. So BackupPC claims success even when some of the files fail to be read. The only warning sign you get is in the log file one of the lines says: 2009-11-09 14:53:50 full backup 0 complete, 2737 files, bytes, 29 xferErrs ( bad files, bad shares, 29 other) but if the user sees no fail failures why would he have reason to view the logs. So yes, the user could come to restore his files and find the ones he needs were never backed up. I am about to use it in production and managed to avoid exposure to this problem entirely by using sudo from the beginning. Maybe its worth scripting part of the deb to add a few scripts restrictive tar and rsync with entries to be added to the sudoers file? Im trying to reason this behaviours existence as to whether its a genuine bug or just needed to ignore not being able to backup super sensitive things or locked files - but hang on that would only be useful for Windows for which a tar backup would need additional setup anyway. [Bug 460271] Re: virt-aa-helper fails when serial or console type is 'tcp'
Impact: tcp serial consoles are broken Bug is addressed in Lucid by enforcing an absolute path for the filename Patch is debian/patches/9094-lp453335.patch and is small See comment #1 The regression potential is considered low. It passes the qa-regression- testing script. AppArmor requires absolute paths in the pathnames anyway, so enforcing them will only make other situations more robust. -- virt-aa-helper fails when serial or console type is 'tcp' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/460271 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 453335] Re: apparmor complains about write access to a readonly file
SRU (libvirt) Impact: confusing messages in kernel log. Told access to ISO is denied, but it is correctly allowed. Bug is addressed in Lucid adding a deny rule for the 'w' action, which silences the message while still enforcing readonly Patch is debian/patches/9094-lp453335.patch See comment #7 The regression potential is considered low. It passes the qa-regression- testing script. The added deny rule does nothing except silence a confusing denial message. -- apparmor complains about write access to a readonly file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/453335 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 453335] Re: apparmor complains about write access to a readonly file
I should also mention that libvirt should *MUST* be moved to karmic- updates at the same time or after the kernel SRU for this bug, ie 2.6.31-15.49.
