[Bug 490664] Re: Samba stopped working between 9.10 LiveCD and current installed system.

2009-12-02 Thread Thierry Carrez
So the problem is in your name resolution setup. The XP and MacOS
machines are set up in a way that "atlas" is not resolved to
192.168.0.30. Try "ping atlas" on those and see if it works ?

[Bug 486895] Re: usb-modeswitch disables graphical interface

2009-12-02 Thread Didier Raboud
Hi felipemorales,

what "graphical interface" are you talking about? usb-modeswitch
provides no graphical interface, so I don't see how it could create that
problem.

usb-modeswitch is only meant to flip-flop switch your device without
user interaction. Since version 1.0.5 it does nothing anymore (see
README.Debian) without your proactive interaction.

Best regards, OdyX, Debian usb-modeswitch maintainer

[Bug 485695] Re: Gnome screensaver crashes and unlocks screen

2009-12-02 Thread Jim Bauwens
I'm sorry, but I haven't been able to reproduce the bug.
Since the bug report I have done some updates, and did some tweaks to my system.
Even my brother has not been able to do it again (he was the one that found
out, and did it a couple of times).

I will still try to crash it and give you the backtrace, but since the
bug is not easy to trigger I think the importance level can go down.

[Bug 479475] Re: File emblems don't display correct sync status

2009-12-02 Thread Roman Yepishev
...And the emblems are back.

The patch may need some cleanup and relocation of the function
declarations or rename for marshallers but otherwise it is completely
functional.

I haven't tested the case with ShareCreateError so this probably needs to be
tracked in a separate bug report.
I'll attach the screenshot of emblems in action.

[Bug 477169] Re: Wubi/Karmic boot: kernel panic - not synching: VFS

2009-12-02 Thread Craig Van Degrift
I made a test to see if Grub had difficulty reaching high up in an ext4
partition (no ntfs or wubi involved so may be irrelevant to present
bug).

First, I installed and fully updated (as of 12/2/09) Xubuntu 9.10 in a
desktop machine letting it use the entire 80GB disk with the root
directory at sda1 formatted in ext4. update-grub and grub-install
/dev/sda worked fine and rebooting was successful.

I then booted up Xubuntu as a LiveCD on that system and did the following:
--used tar to copy all of the installed system from sda1 to a USB drive.
--ran mkfs.ext4 on /dev/sda1
--used dd to put a file of varying size (1MB, 1GB, 2GB and 10GB) as the first
entry (besides lost+found) on that partition
--used tar to copy the system back from the USB drive
--used mount --bind to set up /mnt/dev, /mnt/proc, /mnt/sys to allow me to work
the reestablished disk system from the LiveCD system.
--chroot /mnt and ran update-grub and grub-install /dev/sda without any errors.
--exited chroot and umounted /mnt/dev, /mnt/proc /mnt/sys, and /mnt
--rebooted successfully each time and was able to run update-grub and
install-grub /dev/sda and successfully reboot again.

I had expected problems based on my poorly-documented experiences a week
or so ago, but found none this time.

Sorry as I haven't tried to use the evince sidepane toggle short-cut after
disabling compiz. I've tried it now, there's no problem now & Evince is
working fine with 'F9' for toggling sidepane. You're right, the short-cut
conflicts with Compiz.
Thanks for
help & Advice

[Bug 491751] [NEW] gnome-codec-install: no codec pack is suggested for MP4/AVC in Lucid Alpha

2009-12-02 Thread komputes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-codec-install

No codec pack is suggested in Lucid Alpha when trying to view a video,
without the proper codec installed. The specific video is a MP4/AVC
contained in a MOV file. I cannot troubleshoot any further as gnome-
codec-install does not have a man page.

To reproduce:
1) Daily Development LiveCD (20091202) for Lucid Lynx 9.10 Alpha.
2) Open firefox and go to
http://people.ubuntu.com/~komputes/ubuntu_codec_bucket-o-fail/MVI_0433.MOV

What happens:
Nothing, just totem plugin in firefox window with solid black as content.

Expected:
gnome-app-install should come up and suggest a codec

[Bug 491740] [NEW] grub-pc can not install on old drives, use grub instead

2009-12-02 Thread Arie Skliarouk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

I tried to install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 onto an old drive that has only 965632
bytes per cylinder and the system did not boot after the installation.
When I tried to do "grub-install /dev/sda" (from Live CD), I got warning:
Embedding area is too small for core.img

I had to manually remove grub-pc and install grub for the machine to be
able to boot from that disk.

debian-installer must have logic to choose to use grub on disks with too
small cylinders.

[Bug 491737] [NEW] the Overwrite Omit Cancel question is asked at an inappropriate time when copying files

2009-12-02 Thread antesdelalba
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In the *middle* of a copy&paste process, as there was a Lost+Found
folder in both the original and destination folders, the copy process
was stopped waiting for an answer (the kind of Mix, replace, cancel?
question).

This should have been asked at the beginning, not in the middle of the
copy, as it is understandable (specially when moving significant volumes
of data) to start copying and leave or do something else. If the process
it's interrupted and you don't realise, it takes a lot longer.
Anticipating such "idiotic" dialogs shouldn't be too complicated.

[Bug 491382] Re: Ubuntu don't work so well with Dell laptop

2009-12-02 Thread Nigel Babu
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please log a separate bug for each issue. You can edit the description
to make this about something specific. You can also read
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs to get more details
about reporting bugs.

Thanks!

[Bug 491736] [NEW] nautilus takes a huge amount of memory when copy-pasting files

2009-12-02 Thread antesdelalba
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

My system has 2GB of RAM and 4GB of swap. Nautilus is taking almost all
of them. Top says 1781M virt and 1.2G res. This happens as I´m doing a
backup of my external USB drive into another USB drive. Around 1.000.000
files, with music, videos, text, and thousands and thousands of
pictures. Copying from Ext3 to Ext4 partition, with a simple copy and
paste.

Copy speed decreased with time, starting around 16-17MB/sec now around
11MB/sec.

Serious bug. Copy & paste shouldn´t destroy a machine no matter how big
the amount of files/total size. =(

I posted this originally as a comment, but this is a different behaviour
to the one described on the bug report that I posted on.

[Bug 490205] Re: Empty Disc Recognised, but still Asks for Empty DVD upon Burn

2009-12-02 Thread Nigel Babu
Please try this solution posted at
(https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/k3b/+question/92662).

Stop using any AUTO settings and don't use AUTO in any of the drop down
box options. Choose DAO and ISO9660 to burn an image or iso. Now DAO
appears as the default option when I open K3b. Choose SAO to burn a dvd
data disc.

Please get back if you have any queries. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 491733] [NEW] No file dialog box for loading impress template

2009-12-02 Thread Marty Combs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

The new presentation wizard does not present a file dialogue box to load
the template from any location on the file system. There is no help
information to indicate that "My Templates" points to
$HOME/.openoffice.org/3/user/template/.

The preferred solution would be to have a "Template File..." button to
load a file dialogue to navigate to a preferred location on the
filesystem.

[Bug 491732] [NEW] GDK_BUTTON_MOTION_MASK appears to be broken

2009-12-02 Thread Carl Karsten
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dvswitch

copy of:
http://bugs.debian.org/555030
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=601473 [Critical,Resolved: fixed]

Package: libgtk2.0-0
Version: 2.18.3-1
Severity: important

DVswitch has a custom widget which supports drag selection and
extension, so its event mask is:

GDK_BUTTON_PRESS_MASK | GDK_BUTTON_RELEASE_MASK
| GDK_BUTTON1_MOTION_MASK | GDK_BUTTON2_MOTION_MASK

It also adds and removes modal grab as the mouse button is pressed and
released, so that it can detect the end of a drag outside the window.

Today I found that this widget no longer receives motion events, only
press and release events. Adding GDK_POINTER_MOTION_MASK brings back
motion events, but I do not want to receive them while no buttons are
pressed! This is a regression from 2.16, possibly resulting from the
extensive changes to support XInput.

Ben.
