[Bug 464060] Re: 9.10 cannot use ibus or scim to input Chinese

2009-12-19 Thread iadk
Hi, I need help with ibus. I use Chinese - py to enter Chinese
characters and it works perfectly with Firefox, OpenOffice, etc.
However, ibus can't seem to recognize Empathy chat windows as input
windows, since it displays "No input window". What should I do to enter
Chinese characters for my chats?

[Bug 469346] Re: Dell mini 10 Mic not working

2009-12-19 Thread merc
Hi,

Need to correct myself.
In Hardware, I get the following profiles:

* Analog stereo input
* HDMI output
* HTMI Output + Analog stereo input
* Analog Stereo Output
* analog stereo duplex

Picking the last one, in the Input section the mike is not greyed out.
Selecting "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" works, but Input level is
always 0 (nothing compares in the bars) and it just doesn't record
anything...

Sorry about my lame earlier report...

Bye!

Merc.

In "hardware" there's just "Internal Audio 1 Output", no sign of a mike...

Help? :-D

[Bug 258935] Re: program freezes when changing the volume with multimedia keys.. also once it loses the audio control it is horrible at reclaiming it

2009-12-19 Thread Chris Cowan
I'm suddenly having major issues with this bug. Rhythmbox is completely
unusable with this. It freezes for about 30 seconds at a time when I use
my volume controls, and about half of my open windows freeze with it. I
just logged out, logged in, tested with rhythmbox being the only thing
running, and it still does this.

I'm on Ubuntu 9.10, amd64, with rhythmbox 0.12.5 (and its dbg packages).
I've attached the resulting file after I ran "rhythmbox -d 2>&1 | tee
rhythmbox-freeze.txt" (and removed the thousands of lines where it
decided to list every single one of my songs). At the top of the file, I
noted the four times that rhythmbox stopped responding (it's pretty much
every time the log skips more than 10 seconds).

The line

[0xa01040] [window_focus_cb] rb-mmkeys-plugin.c:142: window got
focus, re-grabbing media keys

is always the last thing that shows up on the terminal when rhythmbox
freezes. The line appears every time I press a media key (including the
volume key), but doesn't always cause rhythmbox to freeze.

However, from looking at this thread now, I'm pretty sure you were

in my case it would now appear to be trying to prove a negative.

It really was a pretty annoying bug when it

[Bug 498705] [NEW] gpsdrive is incorrectly categorized in software-center

2009-12-19 Thread Asif Youssuff

GPS receiver on a zoomable map. Maps can be downloaded from different map
providers or rendered on-the-fly using the OpenStreetMap dataset.
Route planning, optionally with spoken directions, is supported through
waypoints."

this is hardly a "graphics" app, and should be moved to "other" or
"science".

For example, on apple's website, routebuddy is categorized as a "math
and science" app:

[Bug 498704] [NEW] lucid ntfs partition can't display chinese character correctly

2009-12-19 Thread Yunkwan
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu Lucid daily build
I used the installer to set the mount point correctly during the installation
stage. After the installation, my ntfs partition can't display file name that
contains chinese character correctly.

In Kubuntu Karmic, there's no such a problem.

I even tried editing the /etc/fstab to change the options into "ntfs
defaults, nls=utf-8" I copy "nls=utf-8" from Karmic. But it doesn't
work still.

[Bug 384249] Re: [ooo-build] OOo text rendering broken in transition from 3.0.1 to 3.1.0

2009-12-19 Thread Eddie Hung
Here's the latest comment from upstream:

di dit2009-12-04 17:32:05 UTC
This bug exists in current debian/unstable (3.1.1-8) too but doesn't exist
in current debian/experimental (3.2.0~beta-2). Checked for both i386 and amd64.
See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=555858

Also, problem still exists in Lucid which uses 3.1.1; Let's hope it ends
up pulling 3.2 in (or at least backporting the fix)

[Bug 498703] [NEW] sporadic undiagnosable "Network error" with MSN and GTalk accounts

2009-12-19 Thread Radomirs Cirskis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Some times without any obvious reason Empathy doesn't connect to the accounts
and it gives very terse error message "Network error". For instnance I have set
up 2 gtalk accounts: one - general @gmail.com, the other - company's (google
apps) and 1 MSN. The former works. But the latter (the company's and MSN) don't.
Neither Empathy offer any assistance in further research of the cause :( Help!

[Bug 497221] Re: No sound in HP Pavilion dv6z laptop with ubuntu 9.10

2009-12-19 Thread leandersp
After a lot of trials I have somewhat solved the sound problem
although not perfect.

This is exactly what I did so far.

I made a full installation (dual booting with windows 7) with
dedicated ext4, swap partitions. No sound yet.

I removed alsa using synaptic package manager.

I added keramic backport to the sources & updated.

   I installed 'linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.31-17-generic' using
synaptic package manager.

Restated the system & after some tweaking in the sound settings I got
sound ! Mike is working fine too.

There are still issues with the sound like the laptop speaksers
remain on when I connect the headphones.

I'm managing right now using the gnome alsa mixer to manually reduce
the laptop speaker sound while using headphones.

I hope this bug will get fixed for the next release of Ubuntu. As of
now, I'm able to use my new laptop with Ubuntu 9.10

Regards
Leander

working. I had even run updates after, then suddenly during an auto-

[Bug 493130] Re: Quickly prevents creating a project with a "-" in the name

2009-12-19 Thread Philip Peitsch
Ok... I have pulled the latest quickly branch (lp:quickly) into my
branch. I fixed up the main project_name template so it functioned
again, and everything now works again (on my machine... of course lol).

I then tested this my locally merging the trunk and my changes, and it
seems to function ok.

Exact commands were:
bzr branch lp:quickly
cd quickly
bzr merge lp:~philip-peitsch/quickly/dashed-names-support

I then overrode the path so it used the freshly branched quickly and
created a test project which worked (called My-Project). Give the merge
another attempt and see if maybe it works for you too... sorry about all
the back and forth :).. I appreciate you are busy with your own projects
:)

[Bug 498558] Re: Erlang packages missing debug information

2009-12-19 Thread Elliot Murphy
Thank you for the bug report, and for going to the work of tracking down
what was happening.

Erlang debug info was deliberately stripped out in order to make the
erlang runtime smaller so it could fit on the CD, as we shipped CouchDB
on the CD in Ubuntu 9.10. I have not figured out whether it is possible
to ship erlang debug info in a separate parallel package like we do for
C programs. So the other solution I had come up with but not gotten
around to setting up until tonight was to make a PPA with a rebuilt
erlang package that included the debug info. This way we still have a
small erlang that fits on the CD by default, but Erlang developers that
want to use dialyzer and the debugger can easily get alternate erlang
packages that include debug info.

I believe this bug should be closed as wontfix. I am aware that Sergei
has changed the debian packages to build with debug info included by
default, this is a reasonable choice for debian but not for Ubuntu.
Sergei has kindly left the patch in place and just commented out because
Ubuntu still needs the smaller erlang runtime, so we can still easily
merge from debian to ubuntu.

I've now created a PPA including a rebuilt erlang with debug info here:
https://edge.launchpad.net/~erlang-dev/+archive/ppa

The patch from stock ubuntu 9.10 is a trivial one-liner, commenting out a line
in the quilt series file.
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/36985331/erlang_1:13.b.1-dfsg-2ubuntu1_1:13.b.1-dfsg-2ubuntu2~karmic1.diff.gz

To add this ppa to you Ubuntu 9.10 machine, type:
  sudo add-apt-respository ppa:erlang-dev/ppa

If it would be useful to people developing erlang programs, we could set
up a parallel PPA that had even newer versions of Erlang in it with
debug info turned on there also, so that it's easy to get the very
latest erlang release to develop against.

[Bug 498007] Re: open office crashes when switching with firefox

2009-12-19 Thread Dave Walker
alterity:

The debug procedure needs to be applied to the specific application that
is failing. soffice.bin is just the introduction screen but launches
the actual application.

What application is open when the crash is occurring?

Can you also tell me if there is a crash report being generated when
Openoffice is crashing? (For example.. Does a screen appear asking you
to report the bug with a couple of buttons on it?) The reason I ask is
because I still cannot push this bug upstream unless I can reproduce the
bug on a vanilla debian system using the DEB files from Sun. The crash
report will be helpful but I doubt this will get resolved unless we can
reproduce it.

Banshee doesn't recognize the media player when it's plugged in, it freezes.

Re: [Bug 374459] Re: Acer Aspire 5738G: touchpad can be switched off, but not on again

2009-12-19 Thread Pablo
SOLVED

setting a boot option: i8042.nomux

1) sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
2) change the line
   GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
to the following
   GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i8042.nomux"
3) save
4) sudo update-grub
5) restart the system

I don't know what does this do, but it works. It came to me with the
solution to another Acer bug (about brightness).

Hope it will help you.

Re: [Bug 489041] Re: Acer Aspire 5738 cannot change brightness at all

2009-12-19 Thread Pablo
3esmit,
Thank you very much. It solved the brightness problem, and also the touchpad
one. Two goals with one shot.

Stefan,
Thank you a lot. I really apreciate your very long effort.

There are a couple of things I would like to comment, and a little problem I
wish solve (related to this topic) and perhaps any of you could help me:

1) From the changes in the boot options, the ubuntu logo that is shown at
the beginning and when shutting down, appears elongated in the with of the
screen (just an observation)
2) A curious behaviour of this lovely machine is that sometimes it boots
with the brightness quite attenuated. I've tried it several times before and
after the last changes, and it happense randomly: sometimes it doesn't get
the full bright.

THE PROBLEM) The previous step I had taken was to install a 9.04 version on
a small disk partition. Now the grub responds to that installation, and so
to set the boot options I had to edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst file of 9.04
installation, since update-grub changes the /boot/grub/grub.cfg file of 9.10
installation. The question is: How could I restore the previous grub, so
that it works normally from 9.10?

Thanks again, and have a happy new year!!!
