[Bug 508162] [NEW] totem 2.28.2 media player mkv sound bug
Public bug reported: When playing mkv video containing two sound tracks and trying to change file position or sound track sound disappears or appears randomly. For example after changing track it`s needed to change position some times in order to return sound. Vlc manages such files easily, including track and/or position jumps. This bug appears in a lot of files. I don`t know exectly what more info to produce, ask me at gray...@mail.ru if needed. [Bug 508160] [NEW] Packages did not provide plugins error when restarting movie player will have all plugins
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-codec-install In Lucid Alpha 2, I double clicked a .avi movie that needed codecs. Gnome-codec-install correctly downloaded gstreamer-plugins-ffmpeg, however when it finished I saw the attached error message. Clicking ok caused the movie to fail to play, however closing totem and reopening the movie allowed it to play just fine. I then tried opening another movie file, this time gnome-codec-install correctly downloaded the -ugly plugins, and gave the same error messsage. When I clicked ok the movie played, however without sound. Closing totem and reopening the movie allowed it to play just fine. [Bug 508161] [NEW] Update to 2.6.31-18.20 broke sound on MacBook Pro 5.4 in Ubuntu 9.10
Public bug reported: Not sure whether the culprit is the kernel package upgrade or the associated alsa backports upgrade, but sound stopped working after the reboot. alsamixer reports no mixer elements found. Reverting to the previous kernel 2.6.31-17-generic and the associated alsa backports package fixes it (but one has to unmute the front speakers again in alsamixer, just like after initial installation). I tried to use the hardware identifying command in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems but it didn't work and I couldn't figure it out. [Bug 507083] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in xf86PostMotionEventP()
Hi rajesh, Unfortunately the backtrace is not detailed enough to pinpoint exactly what is going on here, as apport failed to retrace it. Are you able to reproduce this bug easily? If so, would you mind collecting a full backtrace manually? Directions on doing this are available at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing. Thanks ahead of time. Btw, I wonder if this might be related at all to bug #506510, which I am about to upload a fix for. You may want to update to xorg-server 1.7.3.902-1ubuntu7 or newer in order to try out this fix first; if that makes the issue go away then there's no need to gather a backtrace, just let us know this bug report can be closed. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in xf86PostMotionEventP() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507083 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 506977] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in DamageUnregister() / VAuditF()
I'm not 100% certain, but this bug report looks a heck of a lot like bug #506510, and I think it shares the same root cause. The problem is that error messages were being written to the log after the log file was closed, which causes a segfault in the signal handling code. I've corrected the specific error message print which causes 506510, and am going to assume that covers this crash as well. Because of the signal handling logic, it hides the clues I'd need to be absolutely certain that fix fixes this one as well. So please test version xorg- server 2:1.7.3.902-1ubuntu7, and if you still get a crash please reopen this bug (or file a new bug, esp. if apport captures it, and reference this bug report so we know the background). ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New = In Progress -- Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in DamageUnregister() / VAuditF() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/506977 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 506510] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in FatalError() when using guest session
This X crash is due to error messages being printed to the log file after the log file has been closed. This was being done in the signal handler due to a Ubuntu patch. I've corrected the patch to not print these errors, which should eliminate this crash. However, still whatever problem had caused the X error to begin with is still there, and it is likely that X will still be failing, just without crashing (or perhaps with a different kind of crash). This crash is hiding that information however. So the good news is hopefully this will unhide that information. After updating to version 2:1.7.3.902-1ubuntu7 please re-test your original issue; if it still occurs file a new bug. Hopefully apport will provide better information in this case now. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium = High ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New = In Progress -- Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in FatalError() when using guest session https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/506510 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 451086] Re: Rhythmbox Notification Bubble shows wrong cover art
I see your point now, Saïvann Carignan, I admit the specific issue reported in the title does not occur anymore: sorry for misunderstanding, my fault! However, in these months I had come to experience the issue as a whole, more as described in comment #13 than in the title. In fact, it was not only the wrong cover, but more randomly involved sometimes wrong cover, sometimes no cover. Sometimes the false cover then carries over to subsequent songs... When today I said that nothing changed, I was simply saying that RB is still failing to show an album cover for what I'm listening to even after today's update, and even though covers are (and most often, have always been) manually dropped in the dedicated space. All in all, yeah, I have to admit that the update solves the issue: now Rhythmbox Notification Bubble does not show wrong cover art anymore - in fact, it does not show any cover art at all. -- Rhythmbox Notification Bubble shows wrong cover art https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/451086 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 508180] [NEW] Network manager takes down wireless router at startup
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager After upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10, the wireless network often doesn't work after the computer is started, restarted, or waken up from standby. The worst thing is that the wireless router/ADSL modem is affected, so that a wire-connected desktop, using Windows on the same router looses internet access too. When a hardware WLAN switch button is pressed on my laptop, so that WLAN is turned off, the other computer regains internet access after a little while. The failure occurs in 25 to 75 % of start attempts (my guess). If the network connection is successful, it will remain so, until the computer is restarted or set in standby for a while. When the failure occurs, a click is heard from the ADSL box; probably a relay. I haven't found anything in the log of the ADSL box that looks suspicious. When the failure occurs, there is rotating symbol in the notification area, declaring attempts to reconnect. The SSID of the Wlan AP is mentioned. I suppose this is from network-manager-applet. I don't know which log files in the computer to look for strange things. ADSL WLAN modem/router: Thomson SpeedTouch 780. Computer: HP Compaq nx7000, using intel ipw2100 for WLAN. CPU: Centrino. OS: Ubuntu 9.10 network-manager: 0.8~a~git.20091013t193206.679d548-0ubuntu1 I have mostly used Gnome, but have seen the same problem in KDE, I think. The bug could be in some other package, of course, but network-manager is my best guess. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Network manager takes down wireless router at startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508180 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 504497] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in FatalError() / OsInit() while trying to install linux-headers 2.6.31-9-rt
I believe this X crash is due to error messages being printed to the log file after the log file has been closed. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium = High ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New = In Progress -- Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in FatalError() / OsInit() while trying to install linux-headers 2.6.31-9-rt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/504497 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 500975] Re: Synchronization failed with the following exception: Unexpected character '' at [1:1]
I do not get the error now, but in the computer (A) where I was getting the error, now I always get 0 notes updated and there is no new content transferred in any direction. I don't get the updates made in computer B and even if I modify a note and synchronize right away from A, I get 0 notes updated. From B it works normal and the content on the web view is that of B. Maybe I should file a separate bug regarding this, but adding this info in case is related to the server-side fix of the issue. -- Synchronization failed with the following exception: Unexpected character '' at [1:1] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500975 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 505560] Re: boot fails after changing graphics card
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 258038 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/258038 Yeah, the X driver system in debian/ubuntu for proprietary drivers was designed with an assumption that the system has just one video device. So it did not cope well with swapping to other drivers or changing hardware out from underneath or whatnot. This has become particularly a problem on the newer hybrid computers that include multiple graphics cards and hardware or bios toggles to swap between them, but it's a deep design issue that requires rearchitecting the whole system in order to fix. For Lucid we have undertaken this rearchitecture work. It is difficult and fairly risky that we might end up just breaking things in other different ways but if we can make it work then hopefully it will solve this whole problem. Anyway, since i think that rework will address this request, I'll dupe this to the master bug for that work. Your help doing thorough testing of this in Lucid would be valuable. See http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Testing/ for a link to the proprietary drivers testing checklist. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 258038 Look into feasibility of using an alternatives system rather than diversions -- boot fails after changing graphics card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/505560 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 431217] Re: package ttf-mscorefonts-installer 2.6 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Jean-Baptiste - I tried your instructions and it fails for the same reason the ttf-mscorefonts-installer fails: ubuntu does not honor the proxy settings for certain use cases, like this. Even though I have a proxy clearly defined, and it's used most of the time, i.e. web access and straight-up usage of synaptic, netstat -tn while the ttf-mscorefonts-installer is hanging shows that it dumbly ignoring the system proxy settings and trying to connect directly to the internet, which of course fails every time. [Bug 387620] Re: [karmic] laptop overheats and shuts off -- fans at low speed
I'm having a similar problem on generic notebook with a Pegatron motherboard. The notebook/motherboard seems similar to the BenQ Joybook S57. The fan works on the Mandriva 2009.0 that came installed with it and (!) with linuX-games-live 0.9.4. Booting Ubuntu with acpi=off seems to keep the fan on/reasonably fast for some time. Any files I could post from these system which could be useful for comparison? One thing I noticed is that Mandriva show lower temperatures _and_ trip points.
