[Bug 295796] Re: [orinoco][intrepid] Network Manager does not reconnect to hidden SSID after reboot
I'm using 9.10 karmic koala on a Samsung Netbook. I'd like to make my GSM connection available via wifi so I do need two autoconnects - one via the GSM (USB or Bluettooth) and one via WIFI (adhoc). I do get an autoconnect for the GSM via USB. For the second connection I have to manually start with connect to hidden network. Also the DHCP configuration is complaining - it seems the order of things is such that the dhcp server starts before the ip addresses for Bluetooth and WLan get assigned. I am confused on what the proper method is to get this working. One comment above mentions modifying /etc/network/interfaces to be the "old" method of doing things. So what is the "new" method then? -- [orinoco][intrepid] Network Manager does not reconnect to hidden SSID after reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295796 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 292214] Re: Xinerama broken since intrepid on MGA
Hello... I've been avidly trying to apply solutions in this thread - so far to no avail. New to Linux and have Mint 7 [which I think is based on ubuntu jaunty]... so I thought all this might work. I have the following PPA's in my Synaptic repositories http://ppa.launchpad.net/andy-ub1/ppa/ubuntu/ http://ppa.launchpad.net/bryceharrington/ppa/ubuntu/ They're successfully integrated into Synaptic - and I think the relevant packages are downloaded/installed. But I don't know where else to look to make sure this is the case. At least Synaptic Package Manager says they are installed, i.e. xserver-xorg-video-mga 1:1.4.9dfsg- 3ubuntu1~bug292214 I also tweaked my xorg.conf file to mirror somebody else in this thread who reported success (attached). Again, I'm new to Linux. After an XP crash on an MS Update, I'm very keen to get Linux working in order to run XP as a virtual machnine. But right off the bat I can't get my Matrox G450 to work. The "Display" thing in the Control Center doesn't do anything (at least no indication of dual head functionality). This experience has forced me to learn a lot... and yet, I'm obviously missing something. I really want it to pay off, so any advice/help vastly appreciated. ** Attachment added: "xorg.conf" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/38515190/xorg.conf -- Xinerama broken since intrepid on MGA https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/292214 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Sorry. Was the bug related to the fact that a package did not exist, or was I mistaken? There is nothing stopping you from raising additional bugs related to copyright. [Bug 514133] [NEW] audio/video call does not work with Logitech QuickCam 4000 Pro (pwc module)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pidgin I am running the 64-bit version of Ubuntu 9.10 (with all updates applied, kernel version 2.6.31-17-generic), with the pidgin package from the repository (1:2.6.2-1ubuntu7.1). I have a Logitech QuickCam 4000 Pro plugged into a powered usb hub. The webcam works perfectly when accessed from cheese or mplayer, even with multiple application starting/stopping. Video from the webcam worked ONCE on my first attempt to place an audio/video call. I ran into problems due to the microphone not being configured, and upon exiting and restarting, the camera could no longer be accessed by pidgin (in fact, the notice to the recipient was no longer sent due to the non-responsiveness of the camera). Even with multiple reboots, disconnecting/reconnecting the cam and hub, pidgin has not been able to read video input from the camera. When looking at dmesg output, I see errors like these (usually in a pair per attempt): pwc: isoc_init() submit_urb 0 failed with error -28 pwc: isoc_init() submit_urb 1 failed with error -28 Google searches indicate that the problem is likely from being connected through the hub, but they are old posts and refer to older kernel versions... In addition, wouldn't a problem stemming from a hub (or kernel driver) manifest when ANY program attempted to access the device, not just pidgin? Plugging the cam directly into the system isn't really an option, so I thought I'd see if pidgin accessed video devices in an unusual or outdated way that makes it susceptible to problems--and if it could be brought more in-line with the way that mplayer or cheese handle it. [Bug 401126] Re: Realtek RTL8192SE WLAN Card Fails to work on Medion Akoya E1312 Netbook
Hi all, Try I've remove the LPS options from the makefile. Instead of just the network that is going down its the whole thing. Kernel panic each time. What is weird is that its not only with the LPS option on or off, I've manage to reproduce it 4 times in a row. If im downloading for about 10 minutes its a kernel panic for sure and just before that its network down. For now, im going back to the version 2.6.0013.1204.2009 which not working on battery but still up all the time on ac. This appears to be fixed in KPackageKit 0.5.4, due to the change in the additional dependencies dialog. [Bug 419566] Re: Firefox 3.5.4pre dies with "bus error"
I don't think so, but I'm running Firefox 3.6.2 from the Ubuntu Mozilla Daily repo. The above bug was apparently a regression introduced by the UMD developers ( I was then running 3.5 ) and was subsequently fixed. The reason it still showed up when I had uninstalled the UMD Firefox 3.5 packages and replaced it by the official stable version is that, as pointed out above, I neglected to remove the UMD Xulrunner package. -- Firefox 3.5.4pre dies with "bus error" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419566 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 509652] Re: evince shrinks pages on printer
@madbiologist - Thanks for the followup I was running Hardy with the default (but up to date) version of evince. That was the last time it worked (there was a different bug (in cairo in Karmic) that was masking the current problem in evince, so I didn't become aware of this problem until the cairo bug was squashed). As for printer margins, I don't know why printing to file/pdf would take any printer margins into account. The printers are the same as when it used to work (HP 3390 and HP CM2320fxi). The pdfs are being created with the fpdf library for php, and they are being created with margins, but I'll look into changing that if it's causing the issue. I'm not sure if my printers support full-bleed printing, but they've definitely been able to handle printing to these margins before. Thanks again, Matthaus -- evince shrinks pages on printer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/509652 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Testing http://ppa.launchpad.net/joe-nationnet/ppa-seamonkey2/ubuntu/pool/main/s/seamonkey-2.0/ [[ ]seamonkey-2.0_2.0.2+nobinonly-0ubuntu4-joe1~karmic_amd64.deb] and all appears to be working, including java (Version 6 Update 18) and flash 10.0 r42). Picked up my bookmarks & add-ons/plug-in's, including Lightning 1.0b1 from my standard SM 2.0.3pre (64bit from the mozilla nightlies) w/o issues. I'll run on the 64bit, and test on the 32bit over the next few days and report back. Had some issues with the Applications|Internet menu items (the install screwed up my standard SM menus that I'd set up for running /home//seamonkey2/ items, but not an issue at this point). I'll also test tomorrow on hardy as well; I can test on jaunty as well, but at this point I think that jaunty will be going away soon so it's not a priority (for me). Overall: Well done & thanks! Note: I have been using SeaMonkey daily since it's inception. I test on linux (Ubuntu) & Windows (Win2K, WinXP, and Win7) regularly. @ Nikola M: I've been testing SeaMonkey from a user and in business/corporate environments from the first release of SeaMonkey. I've insulted no one & suggest you update your knowlege regarding SeaMonkey and Mozilla releases in general. -- Add Seamonkey 2.0 to Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461864 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 506727] Re: upstart fails to start system into multiuser mode
Some progress on this bug. With the (recent) update the moving the png libraries into /lib (for Plymouth), I've been gettings things going further. Unfortunately tonight it all broke again -- so I decided to figure things out as much as possible. I stripped /etc/init/ to a bare minimum: that provided by upstart and just mountall.conf i.e. eve:[~]% ls /etc/init/ control-alt-delete.conf rc-sysinit.conf rcS.conf tty2.conf tty4.conf tty6.conf mountall.confrc.conf tty1.conf tty3.conf tty5.conf upstart-udev-bridge.conf And I still could get booting to work. I modified tty2.conf to start on starting (like mountall.conf); and modified the mountall.conf job and prefixed it with strace. It appears that upstart does not like ptracing though strace and it hangs the job. That was lucky as I manually went and run the mountall program via strace. ** Attachment added: "mountall strace" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/38513585/mountall.log -- upstart fails to start system into multiuser mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/506727 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 197581] Re: update-manager crashed with RuntimeError in () : RuntimeError: could not open display
O.K. Here is what is happening. I start my computer, Ubuntu loads up and auto-logs on and in. Since it loads up a user that probably doesn't have sudo rights. I open up another terminal to access root. [F7] Terminal to [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[F1]Terminal. Then I run commmands like: sudo apt-get update, sudo apt-get upgrade, sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, and sudo update-manager -c -d. I understand I could do that from a terminal window, I perfer to use this method for public access computers being upgraded real-time, while users continue to use the machines. When I type the command: sudo update-manager -c -d from the console while a [F7] Terminal is open in the background, I get this error message, and a bug report is produced. I expect to be able to open up multiple terminals with or with out gdm, startx, or whatever gui interface, on more that one terminal at a time. Thanks, let me know if i'm expecting to much, or if there is a better option for upgrading real-time and sending it to background, so it doesn't bother no sudo users. -- update-manager crashed with RuntimeError in () : RuntimeError: could not open display https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197581 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

So it never emits any signal saying 'filesystem' and nothing else runs. For some strange reason, even doing a manual "initctl emit filesystem" hangs too. Re: [Bug 513575] Re: printing of some documents take a long time, or fails
Unfortunately, don't have a newer system set up at this time. I was going to put a Jaunty or Karmic system together, but job outlook at the moment is shaky, so I had to postpone. I am shooting for 10.4 (I forget the name at the moment) when it comes out later this year. Note that I was able to use KGhostView to look at this particular file and it looks better and prints fine, so it seems to be a combination of the software and perhaps a badly formed PDF. Some of the time, using evince, it crashes the printer. As noted, I also have problems with other PDFs, but that one file in particular is really bad. Thanks... [Bug 378189] Re: iwlagn/iwlcore modules stop responding
this sounds like the same issue i was having as well. i don't know a fix exactly, but what i found was a work around. replace network-manager with wicd talked about in this bug. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/459933 just 'sudo apt-get install wicd' i takes care of removing network-manager and installs wicd and since i have been running i have not had a single issue with the wireless. in 9.04 and 9.10 i was having an issue that when i was xfering large data files from my windows server to my ubuntu install over this 5100 agn wireless it would just drop out in such a way that it would lock up the ubuntu smb and the windows box nfs so that i would have to reboot both of them. now with wicd i can actually suspend my laptop and more importantly rewake my laptop, it would just leave me with a flashing cursor using network-manager. I am not sure what is wrong with this iwlagn driver but network-manager makes it mad at least. -t -- iwlagn/iwlcore modules stop responding https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378189 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Either when I'm writing an email or typing text (such as taking minutes) for no reason that I can ascertain a portion of the text will be highlighted. There appears to be no way to correct this and everything freezes. All the programs I'm using cannot be deleted either individually or en masse.
