[Bug 524101] Re: optionally fetch public ssh keys from Launchpad when starting an instance

2010-02-18 Thread Thierry Carrez
Note that euca-run-instance "-k" option does not use a generic public
key file as its parameter... but rather the name of a keypair registered
in Eucalyptus through euca-add-keypair. So you would miss the private
key...

Maybe it would be simpler to support it through ec2-config ? Like having
an extra option to install SSH authorized_keys from LP during boot ?

[Bug 342459] Re: KUBUNTU Jaunty alpha 6 does not start

2010-02-18 Thread Monkey
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 234519] Re: Compaq Presario C700 series (C756CA) always freezes the second time when resuming from Suspend to RAM

2010-02-18 Thread josh
I tried installing Karmic i386 on my wife's C700 the other day, and it
suffers from this bug. It is 100% reproducible -- first suspend/resume
works, second fails. If you search for bugs like "second resume", you'll
find lots of different types of laptops all with the exact same problem.
I did some googling and found this:

http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11963

I also found the tboot project on Sourceforge, which is an Intel-created
program that's supposed to address issues with Intel TXT on Linux. It
requires the use of Xen, which I'd never set up before, and Ubuntu
doesn't have an official Dom0-compatible kernel anyway. I couldn't get
it to work before my wife insisted that I just reinstall Windows so she
could use her laptop again.

[Bug 496774] Re: no indication that a fsck is in progress

2010-02-18 Thread Stuart Young
As this affects me too...

Upgraded a server install to lucid from karmic today, and plymouth
(0.8.0~-10ubuntu1) was installed during the upgrade process. Upgrade was
performed using 'do-release-upgrade -d'.

As such, the comment from scott makes no sense unless plymouth has been
decided to be removed as a default package.

[Bug 246251] Re: Calendar > Contacts > Birthdays & Anniversaries forgets displaying birthdays

2010-02-18 Thread Detlef Lechner
The procedure outlined by Russell Faull also brought back the birthdays on my
'Calendars - Evolution' window as well as on the small window which pops up
when I click on the date/time applet in the notification area.
This workaround is tedious indeed.
This bug is not related to Dropbox.

[Bug 524179] Re: Left-clicking on taskbar icon for transmission brings up the right-click menu

2010-02-18 Thread Krzysztof Klimonda
Thank you for the bug report but the new behaviour of the icon is not a bug.
The new indicator application applet that Transmission and other applications
are being ported to doesn't support (by design) right click. You can read more
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopExperienceTeam/ApplicationIndicators about
what has driven developers to this decision.

I'm marking the bug as a Won't Fix, you should voice your concerns to
the Canonical DX Team either by using IRC (#ayat...@irc.freenode.net) or
by subscribing to the Ayatana Mailing List (though

[Bug 524250] [NEW] how to find which programs are over-using dbus?

2010-02-18 Thread sabik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dbus

It would be useful to have a tool that shows which programs are using
dbus how much, perhaps analogous to top(1).

Rationale: on bug #295741 a lot of the discussion was about whether the
problem is a memory leak (and thus a bug of dbus) or due to overuse of
dbus by some other program (and thus a bug of that program). However, no
procedure was offered to find out which program!

dbus-monitor(1) possibly outputs all the required information, but one
would still need something to calculate stats (eg count the number of
outstanding method calls, with or without timeouts; translate bus IDs
into process IDs and hence program names; etc).

[Bug 521721] Re: [TOSHIBA Satellite A300] suspend/resume failure [non-free: fglrx]

2010-02-18 Thread josh
Andreas,

I found an existing bug report for my hardware and marked it as applying
to me (#234519). There are actually dozens of similar bug reports for
various hardware (just search for "second resume"), many of which I
suspect are all due to the kernel bug I linked to earlier. It doesn't
actually apply to me anymore, unfortunately, since my wife insisted that
I re-install Windows. I can't really blame her, considering a laptop
that can't suspense/resume isn't terribly useful. Thanks for taking the
time to respond.

[Bug 523005] Re: fails to print any more than the first two pages of a multi-page job

2010-02-18 Thread Mitch Towner
Thankyou for the extra information. You may wish to try installing the "hplip"
package as this should help with HP printers. Please see
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/ubuntu.html for
more details on installing this package.
If this does not resolve your issue, can you please also run "apport-collect -p
cups 523005" (without the quotes) from a terminal window? This collects the
necessary debugging information that is required to help diagnose your issue.
Please ensure that your printer is turned on & you have tried to print multiple
pages to & experienced this issue so that the relevant information is in the
log files.
Thanks in advance!

2010-02-18 Thread Flávio Etrusco
A small correction: I don't know when that small antenna icon appears,
maybe when you have wireless networks configured but they are
disconnected? Anyway, the plug icon is still quite bad (as is it's even
look like connected); something resembling a RJ54 plug with a cable
would be better... (or something similar to Windows at worst)

[Bug 524243] [NEW] Python-boto crashes with Duplicity and Amazon S3

2010-02-18 Thread Andrew Simpson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-boto

Using Duplicity to back up to Amazon S3 with Karmic. Having been using
this back up method for long time (more than one year), but has suddenly
stopped working in the last few days.

Can verify the problem on another machine with clean install of Karmic.
A Debian Stable machine on same network works with Duplicity + Amazon
S3, ruling out network problems.

Installing latest Duplicity from source made no difference.

Installing newer python-boto from Lucid (Python-boto-1.9b-

[Bug 92652] Re: C-cedil not present in US-International keyboard

2010-02-18 Thread Flávio Etrusco
Eduardo Ceretos' approach (if I understand it) is the correct one: to create a
different layout for 'Brazil' model and let US model alone. There several
completely different (and completely irrelevant) layouts for Brazil model like
all "Nativo" variants (I can't speak for Dvorak and Esperanto, these Nativo
variants are complete nonsense), there should be a "Brazil with US Intl".
OT rant: wth doesn't the combo navigate work naviagate when you press a char?
OT rant2: when will gtk finally that popup/combo scroll bug?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate an useful symbolic stack trace).
This might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on
your system at the time of the report. Please upgrade your system to the
latest package versions. If you still encounter the crash, please file a
new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

[Bug 483451] Re: Ubuntu fails to load after white logo splash screen.

2010-02-18 Thread ricardisimo
So, two weeks have gone by, and not only has the problem not corrected
itself, but also, amazingly, not one other person on the entire planet
can even post a simple "hello" within this thread. I have to say, it's
getting to be pretty puzzling.

I see a list of over fifty names in the right sidebar, supposedly being
updated regarding this thread, and not one of you can just type a single
sympathetic note, like "Wow... sorry for your troubles... hope it gets
resolved"? No one?

Deep, long sigh.

[Bug 495394] Re: autostart almost always fails on boot time host

2010-02-18 Thread Stuart Young
Upgraded the libvirt host to lucid (libvirt-bin 0.7.5-5ubuntu7). Since
doing so, I have not been able to replicate the issue with guests not
starting at boot due to the bridge coming up late (after some/all of the
guests have started). Will continue to do more testing.

Notes:
1. eth0 appears to be coming up after the guests are running, but the guests
seem to be fine with this and not crash out like they did under karmic.
2. Guests are still running karmic atm (if that's at all relevant?)

[Bug 477430] Re: grub 2 error: out of disk. failed to boot default entries. press any key to continue...

2010-02-18 Thread Davidian1024
Hello,

First off, sorry about the status changes. I have to be more careful
when I click.

Anyway, this bug also affects me. Although my case might be unique.

I installed Ubuntu-9.10 to an SD card and with a purposefully made
kernel i was able to get it to boot from that. Then for no reason I can
come up with I started getting this "error: out of disk". I played
around with manually reinstalling GRUB2 which for a while only seemed to
make matters worse. Now I am back to the "error: out of disk".

A little GRUB2 specific info:

I get the out of disk error when I try a few commands from the grub
rescue> prompt the error leaves me at:

grub rescue> insmod /boot/grub/normal.mod
error: out of disk

[Bug 329397] Re: Invalid packets on long running queries

2010-02-18 Thread GeertJanVanderkelen
Attached is a patch which hopefully fixes #329397. Please try it out and see if
it works.
I will commit/push this code soon but wanted to see some comments first.

What I did was refactoring the MySQLBaseConnection.recv() method:
* Keeps reading in chunks from socket until needed, get rid of MSG_WAITALL
* Consecutive packets are kept in a deque. If there is something in the deque,
recv() will first use that data.

Overall, I think this is also faster.

[Bug 519928] Re: firefox has problems rendering table borders.

2010-02-18 Thread Draycen DeCator
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

- This specific table:
+ Steps to reproduce:
+ 1. Open Firefox
+ 2. Go to http://kossick.de/test.htm
+ 3. Zoom in and out (either using View -> Zoom, or Ctrl + Scroll)

+ Expected Result:
+ The table would retain its properties and still be rendered correctly, just
larger or smaller in overall size.

- should have eight equal blue horizontal borders. However, changing the
- size using Ctrl and the mouse wheel causes some lines to disappear or
- change their thickness. This happened on karmic i386 and a lucid alpha2
- system in a virtual machine.
+ Observed Behavior:
+ The borders of the table change thickness, sometimes disappearing because
they get so thin.
+
+ Confirmed on:
+ Ubuntu 9.10 (64-bit), NVidia, Firefox 3.7
+ Ubuntu 9.10 (64-bit), Intel, Firefox 3.6
+ Ubuntu 9.10 (32-bit)
+ Ubuntu 10.04 (alpha 2)

** Summary changed:

- firefox has problems rendering table borders.
+ Firefox incorrectly renders table borders when zooming

[Bug 431853] Re: [ASUSTeK Computer INC. 901] suspend/resume failure

2010-02-18 Thread Walter_Wittel
No longer repros on Karmic 2.6.31-20-generic from proposed (but don't
know about 2.6.31-17-generic from updates since it doesn't support my
wi-fi card so I've been running proposed). But original bug was against
2.6.31-10-generic so this is likely fixed before -17.

Also no problem on lucid 2.6.32-13-generic.

Thanks for the fix!

Re: [Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2010-02-18 Thread mcphargus
Holding the alt key while using the middle mouse button seems to be the
best way to resize windows.

I agree, tis a pain to try and resize from the edge of a window.

The kernel does'nt acess any of /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf /etc/mdadm.conf
/etc/default/mdadm nowadays.
What worries me is that nobody seems to have cared about this package the last
2 years.

[Bug 222220] Re: the clock format option has no effect in GNOME 2.22

Since this affect the Spanish version of Ubuntu, I found a fix that
works. The information is in Spanish, but the solution is just copy and
paste. This is the URL: http://meridaspot.blogspot.com/2007/04/arreglar-

This fix should be integrated in the next Ubuntu release.

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2010-02-18 Thread imclean
Just want to register my agreement with those who think this a major usability
issue.
While the right click - resize method is a work around, it is one that the
majority of users will never find. (I didn't until I read it here). It is also
slow and clumsy.
The precision required to select the edge of the window on my 24" 1920x1200
screen is probably in the order of 100 microns movement of my mouse.
I frequently have to move my mouse infintesimally side to side several times
before being able to select the edge of a window.
It drives me crazy.
I consider it the biggest interface problem I have encountered in Gnome, just
ahead of the broken autohide function on panels.
