[Bug 529576] [NEW] AIM suddenly won't connect using Empathy - "Network error"
Public bug reported: Sometime last week, Empathy stopped being able to connect to my AIM account. I checked to see if Pidgin had the same problem too, and it did. I was able to fix the problem in Pidgin by unchecking "Use SSL" under Accounts>AIM>Edit Account>Advanced There is no similar setting in Empathy that I can find that fixes this. Any ideas about why this suddenly occurred for both accounts at the same time, and how to fix it? Note: Using Empathy 2.28.1.1 and Pidgin 2.6.5 on Karmic 64-bit. [Bug 397350] Re: unable to play audio CDs on SATA dvd/cd player
I've been having this problem with Ubuntu 9.04 and hoped with an upgrade to 9.10 would fix it, but this bug is still persisting. This is also across multiple kernels including the current one for 9.10, 2.6.31-19-generic. 1. I have 2 Toshiba Laptops A100 and an A200 with the exact same symptoms. 2. On both laptops the DVD drives work perfectly in Windows Vista. 3. On the A200 still has Ubuntu 9.04 and the A100 with Ubuntu 9.10 recently upgraded to see if this problem has been fixed, which it has not. 4. I have attempted just about every kernel option available to fix the problem, but nothing has worked :( 5. Neither laptop has BIOS options to adjust the settings for the DVD drives. 6. The problems has persisted for several months. I have been googling this problem and it seems to affect several distros; Ubuntu, Redhat/Fedora, Gentoo, Suse. I am finding that most responses to the problem is it must be bad hardware or CDs/DVDs or due to in activity of the bugs just assuming it has been fixed :( The Continual Symptoms: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : Illegal Request [current] Info fld=0x0 [sr0] Add. As far as I can tell it only seems to affect laptops, but this problem gets attributed to bad hardware so fast it's hard to tell. As time permits I'm going to start further testing my hardware with other OS's, BSD, Minix, ReactOS to see if I get any similar symptoms. [Bug 404421] Re: "Failed to restore crtc configuration: -22" on i915
So I made a little more progress. In that syslinux folder, there is a file called text.cfg. I opened that file with notepad, and found some lines which looked similar to what you described. In the first 2 instances where I saw the "boot=casper", I highlighted the "casper" part and pasted "casper -- i915.modeset=0" and then saved the file. (Just to note, only the Fedora LiveUSB creator worked https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick . Other USB programs produced what seemed like an identical set of files on my USB, including the USB creator included in the .iso itself, but only the Fedora one makes this work for me.) And this almost worked. I booted once again from the USB, chose the 2nd option, which was to install (first option was to just run the system off of the USB), and it progressed fully through the installation procedure, all the way through to the final reboot, upon which I was prompted to remove the USB. I did, and the system booted from what I had installed on the hard drive. But during the boot process, the same problem. The change was not maintained in the installation. Now, I am running just the live USB, and will try the installation option from the Ubuntu desktop itself instead of the installation directly from the USB. I will post again if doing it this way will work. But if that does not work, please tell me where I can find that text.cfg file on the fully installed system. This way, I could run from the USB, and then browse through the files on the hard drive and edit the file that way. -- "Failed to restore crtc configuration: -22" on i915 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404421 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 529563] [NEW] Lucid Alpha3 live cd failing to boot properly, monitor powers off during boot.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau Hello, Ubuntu Lucid Alpha 3 Live CD. The problem I am having is the live cd will only get as far as the cd's boot menu, and when I select either install or live cd, something shuts off my monitor and the power button blinks (no output to monitor I think). I tried this several times without setting special boot options, and several times with random boot options but I still can't get it too keep power to my monitor. This also happens with the check cd for errors option. Being that I have no display afterwards and the live cd is session only I have no log files or error messages to look at. If it is not the Nouveau drivers, then it might be ubiquity or xorg crashing my display. It is not a problem with my monitor, because I am running Lucid alpha3 as we speak. Also, virtualbox ose in Karmic had no problem running the iso image of Lucid-alpha3. I md5'ed the iso and it checks out fine. The problem is only booting the cd from my PC. Another observation is the lack of display does not prevent Lucid Alpha 3 live cd from booting into a live session, because after 5 minutes or more I can here the ubuntu login sound eventually. I finally managed to get alpha 3 installed on my computer, but to do that I had to perform the upgrade (update-manager -d) over my 9.10 installation. I couldn't use a free partition like I was hoping. Prior to the Karmic to Lucid upgrade, I installed the proprietary Nvidia graphics card driver to ensure I had working drivers after the upgrade. I believe the driver series was 185. This driver does not show up in the window of the hardware manager in Lucid alpha3. Instead, it shows I have two of them activated, but not currently in use. The names of them are "version current" and "nVida/Riva/TNT/GeForce". My graphics card is a MSI branded Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS PCI Express x16. A list of my hardware is included with this bug report. thanks, ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Sun Feb 28 11:51:24 2010 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" - Release i386 (20091028.5) NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.15+git20100219+9b4118d-0ubuntu2 ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-14.20-generic SourcePackage: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau Uname: Linux 2.6.32-14-generic i686 ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 livecd lucid monitor nouveau -- Lucid Alpha3 live cd failing to boot properly, monitor powers off during boot. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529563 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 522645] Re: [MIR] chromium-browser
While Chris is right, I expect our policy for security updates will probably not make you too happy. We provide three "channels" of Google Chrome, which are correspond roughly to something like a "stable", "master", and "next" branch in other projects. These channels are aggressively autoupdated with fixes (security and otherwise) on Win/Mac such that versions other than the newest on each channel are effectively lost in the noise. This means we have a good record for getting fixes quickly out, but it also means that we do not provide security fixes for any non-current releases. You can see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Chrome#Release_history for the release history of our stable releases. With each such release, security fixes for older major versions are immediately stopped. I understand that Ubuntu tries to provide long term support for some Ubuntu releases, and that this may be incompatible with our release process. I don't have any good answer for you. -- [MIR] chromium-browser https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/522645 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 521533] [NEW] Bad data handling -> Security Hole
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: okular Okular has a "feature" to allow users to fill out forms within PDF files. It appears to work fine, if you just use Okular - you may or may not notice the oddity that it doesn't have a "Save" menu option, but it seems to save anyway. You can close the PDF, reopen it with Okular, and your form data is still there. But then you open it with Adobe Acrobat, and your form data is NOT there. It turns out that Okular has a horribly conceived "feature" to let you store form data - but it puts the form data in a file other than the PDF document - it puts it under ~user/.kde/share/apps/okular/docdata. Not only is this a stupidly implemented feature, it is a huge security hole for those of us that do things like fill out tax forms. When I fill out my tax form PDF, I fully expect that my data is going to be saved within the PDF. So when I lock the PDF file inside of an encrypted volume, my data is secure. Imagine my surprise, to find all of my tax data floating out in user/.kde/share/apps/okular/docdata/randomFileName.pdf.xml Okular should have this "feature" immediately stripped from ubuntu to protect Ubuntu's users from this poorly designed application. ** Affects: kdegraphics (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid -- Bad data handling -> Security Hole https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/521533 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdegraphics in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

madbiologist said "You must be getting frustrated." Yeah, that's actually an understatement. The bottom line is that I can't keep my hardware here idle all day, doing nothing, besides doing stability tests. I've got a brand new machine I've built which is essentially unusable. It's my fault for selecting a brand new processor, integrated graphics, etc. Bleeding edge indeed. I'm sure this problem will eventually get addressed, but I need to start using this machine now. [Bug 529525] Re: GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet missing from the "Add to Panel" dialog
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug. ** Changed in: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Converted to question: https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+question/102723 -- GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet missing from the "Add to Panel" dialog https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529525 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
