[Bug 529375] Re: pidgin doesn't use theme background colour in notification area applet
I used your repository to update pidgin-data (it was the only one that offered an update) so I'm now running: ii pidgin1:2.6.6-1ubuntu2 graphical multi-protocol instant messaging c ii pidgin-bot-sentry 1.3.0-0ubuntu1 pidgin anti spam plugin ii pidgin-data 1:2.6.6-1ubuntu2.0~md1 multi-protocol instant messaging client - da ii pidgin-libnotify 0.14-1ubuntu11 display notification bubbles in pidgin But it hasn't fixed the problem. The background is still light grey instead of dark grey. Is pidgin going to remove its indicator from the notification area applet for Lucid (in which case this bug may not matter)? It is currently in both that applet and the indicator-applet. -- pidgin doesn't use theme background colour in notification area applet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 338285] Re: rubber uses deprecated md5 module
Hi, We generally don't add a patch system to a debian package: we uses the one provided by Debian (that can be none), to make the changes 'lighter'. so could you please apply the patch directly to the source, without patch system, and attach the new debdiff here? If you prefer, I can take care of that. [Bug 137183] Re: Problem to burn dvd or cd
Hi, I have a similar problem. I can't burn cds/dvds in Karmic 9.10. I tried command line, brasero and gnome-baker, using an internal and external drive. None of them works. I booted into a different distro on the same machine - and all went well, I was able to burn a dvd - so it's not a hardware issue. When using brasero, it just can't see a blank dvd in the drive, same for gnome. Also, usually gnome after inserting a blank cd/dvd asks what to do with it, in my case this didn't happen. [Bug 533135] [NEW] System fails to boot with plymouth installed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: plymouth I have had plymouth removed for some time now due to the many problems it had been causing. All the old bugs i was experiencing have been fixed, but when i tried to reinstall plymouth my system becomes unbootable. The boot process is normal until after the splash screen dissapears. A blinking underscore comes up in the top left corner of the screen, which is what it used to do when i had plymouth installed. then it just hangs there with the blinking underscore and never does anything else. If i press the power button a bunch of messages come up about various proccesses being killed, the last of which is gdm, next should be plymouth and the shut down, but plymouth does not get killed causing me to have to kill the power. The only way to boot is to boot into recovery mode and remove plymouth, then everything works great. [Bug 533132] [NEW] Boinc fails to reopen current projects (9.10)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: boinc At first everything seems normal. Boinc is checking the system's status. After minute or two boinc gives it's error message but no further information is included. Current projects are not shown and new ones cannot be added. [Bug 429036] Re: core i7 i5 (Lynnfield) turbo boost not working
I'm about due for a rebuild of Ubuntu 9.10 on my HP DV-3085DX (i720). I will re-assess the easiest method to get Turbo Boost up and running with Karmic and post my results. (I only rebuild due to my frequent experimentation with everything...) I have confirmed that Lucid 10.04 (32 and 64 bit) work like a champ with Turbo Boost. Unfortunately 10.04 is still a little too buggy for my to rid myself of 9.10. I know the 2.6.32 generic mainline has been fixed. I don't know if any of the 2.6.32-xx for download at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ have been updated. I will go through the build logs and look for the patch. When I find it I will post my testing results with any quirks (if any) that I come across. -Stand by and happy patching! -- core i7 i5 (Lynnfield) turbo boost not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/429036 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 533129] [NEW] Copying email addresses with utf8 chars is broken for the To: and Cc: edit boxes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I've been seeing this for the last 3 years, so it's a long standing bug. Currently I'm reporting with evolution 2.28.3-0ubuntu3 / Lucid alpha 3. Steps to reproduce: 1) Copy this email address: Άλκης Γεωργόπουλος 2) Start writing a new mail and paste it to the "To:" line. 3) Copy the email address from the "To:" line and paste it to the email body. You should be seeing: =?UTF-8?Q?=CE=86=CE=BB=CE=BA=CE=B7=CF=82_?= =?UTF-8?Q?=CE=93=CE=B5=CF=89=CF=81=CE=B3=CF=8C=CF=80=CE=BF=CF=85=CE=BB?= =?UTF-8?Q?=CE=BF=CF=82?= which obviously isn't what we want. [Bug 518863] Re: Audio fuzziness and sometimes total wash out
No, just tried reproducing with my steps above - didn't work. I had to add a step a step 2a - adjust volume in RB using mouse wheel over tray icon. Then moving to the next song throws me into fuzzy. Again this may be difficult to reproduce specifically as it might involve having either RB or the volume icon set to specific volume levels, etc. I don't have a consistenly reproducible step yet. I can work on it if you'd find it useful. -- Audio fuzziness and sometimes total wash out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/518863 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 518863] Re: Audio fuzziness and sometimes total wash out
I've encountered the problem, and have worked through each recommendation in the Volume Range Anomalies section of that page. I'm still seeing the problem. I may have a good way to reproduce the problem. Assuming you have Rhythmbox running with a panel indicator: 1. Use mouse wheel over applet to raise volume to 100% 2. Play audio in RB 3. Right click RB notification try icon, choose Next 4. Hover over the icon Audio on the next song is then fuzzed out completely. Pausing RB for some minutes and then resuming sometimes clears the problem. For example I just had it paused while I was typing this, and the problem has now gone away. Adjusting the last parameter in that doc has resulted in jerky playback while mouse wheeling to contrl volume via the RB notification tray icon, so I'm going to revert that change. [Bug 184314] Re: Headphone jack does not work in NC1502
HI folks! I just ran into this bug on my Everex NC1502 with the default install of 9.10 (Karmic Koala). Anyway many thanks to those of you who identified the problem in the previous versions of the Alsa driver as it greatly helped me identify the area in the current driver where the problem still exists. Thankfully, and frustratingly, the Alsa driver (specifically the 'patch_via.c' file) had a structure change which looks like part of a driver cleanup. The good news is that they are doing a much better job with the vt1708 chipset support as a result. The bad news is that the headphone bug is still there. So I spent some quality time to understand what the updated driver is doing, what the previous patches did and how to apply those changes in a way that makes sense. The other good news is that the Alsa folks cleaned up a lot of stuff that needed to be changed before. Now all that needs to be put in is the pin assignment and the other items are not required. @ Robert Gardner, This bug is in the Alsa driver and not as such a problem for Canonical per se. It's really the Alsa folks who need to get this put into their driver and make it stick. Before you start make sure you read the following page and install the kernel headers so you don't get stuck later. http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Karmic#Installing_a_package_from_source Here's what I did in the order I did it in: Download the latest Alsa driver: ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/alsa-driver-1.0.22.1.tar.bz2 You can also find this link at their main page: http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Main_Page My file ended up in my home directory after downloading. I extracted the tarball into my home directory cd ~ tar xvf alsa-driver-1.0.22.1.tar.bz2 Then I went into the extracted driver directory. cd alsa-driver-1.0.22.1 Now typically the first thing I do is to configure and build anything new before I modify it so I do that here. ./configure If the configure runs good, then we build it. make Providing there's no errors in building, then you can proceed to patch the file. The file to modify is found in this path: ~/alsa-driver-1.0.22.1/alsa-kernel/pci/hda/ The name of the file is patch_via.c So I open it as such: gedit ~/alsa-driver-1.0.22.1/alsa-kernel/pci/hda/patch_via.c & once gedit loads the file, press CTRL+F to get the search dialog and enter in the following: vt1708_auto_create_hp_ctls This should bring you to the function we want to modify but double check to make sure. It should look like the following at the beginning: static int vt1708_auto_create_hp_ctls(struct via_spec *spec, hda_nid_t pin) { int err; if (!pin) return 0; spec->multiout.hp_nid = VT1708_HP_NID; /* AOW3 */ spec->hp_independent_mode_index = 1; Once you see that then modify it as follows: static int vt1708_auto_create_hp_ctls(struct via_spec *spec, hda_nid_t pin) { int err; if (!pin) pin = VT1708_HP_PIN_NID; //to fix bug on nc1502 //return 0; spec->multiout.hp_nid = VT1708_HP_NID; /* AOW3 */ spec->hp_independent_mode_index = 1; Then press CTRL+S to save (or click the save button) Now you can go back to your terminal window and type make It will go much faster now and will only need to compile the files that changed. Once it finishes then type: sudo make install This will install it to the proper place (which is different in the newer versions of Ubuntu as noted in other posts in this thread). On my machine the drivers installed to: /lib/modules/2.6.31-20-generic/kernel/sound Reboot your system and your newly installed driver should now take effect. At the end of the 'make install' the following warning is printed out and should be noted: WARNING!!! The mixer channels for the ALSA driver are muted by default!!! ** You would use some ALSA or OSS mixer to set the appropriate volume. [Bug 533117] [NEW] Focused and unfocused selected text looks the same
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: light-themes It is impossible to distinguish which text field has focus if some text is selected - it looks grey whether the text field is active (focused) or not. Moreover, grey usually indicates an inactive item, so this adds to the confusion. Screenshots follow. [Bug 531332] Re: default search provider for ja locale
As another way of back to Google, there is a way to change yahoo.com to yahoo.co.jp as Alexander said. So, I have investigated and found that language-pack-ja can provide localized search engines. As other locales like language-pack-de, if we could provide yahoo.co.jp as "Yahoo", no default search engine change is needed. I will post the fix for language-pack-ja later. -- default search provider for ja locale https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/531332 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 419143] Re: Printing from evince (and perhaps other GTK apps) to PostScript printers is broken
Probably not. It requires the cairo 1.9.6 development snapshot which still has a number of regressions that need to be fixed before 1.10.0 can be released. Patching cairo 1.8.10 is not feasible due to the large number of changes required. -- Printing from evince (and perhaps other GTK apps) to PostScript printers is broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419143 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 531177] Re: Font/window sizes odd when using zoom + tabs
Window sizing was really odd as well, but I'm not sure if it was a problem or just that I didn't quite grok the behaviour and was thus surprised. Either way, the latest version seems much better behaved. I tried to reproduce the 'roxterm --tab' no-grow thing, but it seems OK to me. I opened a new ROXTerm window and: $ echo $LINES $COLUMNS 46 102 $ roxterm --tab And in the new tab: $ echo $LINES $COLUMNS 46 102 Then I used the GUI to open a new tab. In no case did I notice the window get larger to accommodate tabs. Oh, wait... I got it. I always have "always show tab bar" checked [1]. In that case there is no issue. Without that, I do see the behaviour you describe. My suggestion for a "fix" is to set "always show tab bar" checked by default for a new install, and document the glitch. :-) Otherwise I agree not to waste time on it. _ Soapbox [1] For principles of obviousness and least surprise I would argue that any window capable of tabs should default to always showing a tab bar. First, it should be obvious just by looking at it what an interface can do and hidden tab bars violate that. Second, when a significant part of the interface changes "randomly" (where "randomly" is described by the user as "I didn't do anything" or "I have no idea why it does that") that's annoying and frustrating to the user. Yeah, most of us are pretty used to this by now (I'm looking at you Firefox). Not all of us... [Bug 533111] Re: pacpl can't handle double-quote characters in title tags
I believe the solution to this bug would be to check the title tag for double-quote characters (and possibly other "special" shell characters like dollar signs, etc.) and backslash-escape them before passing them to the encoder. -- pacpl can't handle double-quote characters in title tags https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533111 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 533111] Re: pacpl can't handle double-quote characters in title tags
To reproduce the bug: 1) Download both nightengale*.flac files into the same directory. 2) Run "pacpl -v -t m4a nightengale*.flac" For extra debugging output: sudo $EDITOR /usr/bin/pacpl Search for the regex "pnotice.*encode_string" Delete the words "if $dryrun" from the end of the line, so that the debug message will print even in non-dryrun mode. (In dryrun mode, the title tag isn't actually extracted, so the debug information printed in dryrun mode is not the actual command that gets edited in non-dryrun mode). Run the pacpl command above, and note the combination of spaces and quotes in the call to the faac encoder. -- pacpl can't handle double-quote characters in title tags https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533111 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Audio source for those two .flac files is the sound sample from http://www.freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=983.
