[Bug 532951] [NEW] metacity starts and dies

2010-03-05 Thread SoloTurn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

after upgrading to lucid lynx, log into a gnome session is broken:
1. the default language of the computer is german, the desired login language
on gdm is english. logging in leads to a german gnome panel, with strange
effects (like sound "alles stummschalten (=mute)" (german) and "unmute"
(english).
2. metacity starts and then dies (or ... does not display any window borders)
3. opening a command prompt and typing "metacity --replace" gives the windows
... but the buttons minimize-maximize-close are on the left side instead on the
right.

indicator-session. So not hardware-specific, and not a bug that I can
see.

[Bug 532939] Re: [FFe] Please sync supertux 0.3.3-1 from Debian(Experimental)

2010-03-05 Thread StefanPotyra
I think, the release notes for 0.3.2-svn don't apply for FFe as we've
already got a snapshot that has these included.

Show me a screenshot, and I'm inclined to accept the FFe.

[Bug 532944] [NEW] "ubuntu-bug -u $BUG" not working, but "apport-{kde, gtk} -u $BUG"

2010-03-05 Thread Daniel Hahler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apport

While "/usr/share/apport/apport-kde -u 532898" does work as expected,
"ubuntu-bug -u 532898" opens the "report by symptom" dialog.

This is related to
  export APPORT_INVOKED_AS="$0"
in /usr/bin/ubuntu-bug - commenting this line makes "-u" work as expected, too.

After digging into the code (apport/ui.py) this is caused by:
# no argument: default to "show pending crashes" except when called in
# bug mode
if len(self.args) == 0 and cmd.endswith('-bug'):
self.options.filebug = True
return
self.args is empty in most cases, and what's meant to get checked here is
apparently sys.argv.

I'll attach a branch to fix this.

[Bug 531876] Re: Breaks sources.list for some ports when used

2010-03-05 Thread Emmet Hikory
No, actually that breaks it harder. It doesn't use ports.ubuntu.com for
stuff not on archive.ubuntu.com, and it presumes mirrors exist for all
architectures (which doesn't tend to be true for Ubuntu). The more
comprehensive fix to this bug is to refactor Ubuntu.info.in to default
to ports (where the majority of architectures reside), and special-case
exceptions. To save my typing, I've special-cased ports for very old
releases (where more architectures were on archive.ubuntu.com and fewer
on ports.ubuntu.com) in http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~persia/python-
apt/lucid+bf531876/revision/341

I've not encountered the build failure that
http://bzr.debian.org/loggerhead/apt/python-apt/debian-sid/revision/352
claims to fix (I also test build on powerpc), but my fear is that it
would imply that mirrors worked for ports, which doesn't tend to be the
case.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: python-apt

python-apt defaults to archive.ubuntu.com except for specifically listed
architectures. As a result, it removes entries referencing
ports.ubuntu.com on upgrade, except for an incomplete list of special-
case architectures, which leads to update and upgrade failures.
+
+ WORKAROUND:
+
+ Those encountering this bug must manually recreate a sources.list that
+ minimally includes:
+
+ deb http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/ karmic main restricted
+ deb http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/ karmic-updates main restricted
+
+ Once the bug is fixed, those who have downloaded the fix (after using
+ this workaround) will be able to again use software-properties to adjust
+ the set of sources.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make Ubuntu
better. However, it seems that you are not using a software package provided
by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can
not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the provider
of the software package. Thanks!
If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and Ubuntu
the following pages should be informative:
1. http://www.ubuntu.com/community/ubuntustory/components - information about
Ubuntu repositories
2. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories - information regarding
managing repositories.

Could you report the bugs that come for this package to

[Bug 532939] Re: [FFe] Please sync supertux 0.3.3-1 from Debian(Experimental)

2010-03-05 Thread Stefan Ebner
Supertux Release 0.3.3 (2010-02-26)
---

After more than three years of development the SuperTux development team has
agreed to package a development snapshot of Milestone 2 of our jump and run
game.

Unfortunatly, after such a long time it's hard to say what the most notable
changes are. We hope that the game engine is more stable (or at least more
advanced ;) and that the game is more fun to play overall.

If you want to help improve SuperTux, please don't hesitate to join us. We're
always looking for interested people to design levels, graphics, test the
current development version and / or contribute code. To get in touch with us,
please refer to the "Contact" wiki page in the SuperTux wiki,

  http://supertux.lethargik.org/wiki/Contact

We hope you enjoy SuperTux. Now off you go, rescue Penny! ;)

Supertux Release 0.3.2-SVN (2007-12-20)
---

Just in time for Christmas, we bring you SuperTux 0.3.2-SVN, a preview
of SuperTux Milestone 2.

This build doesn't contain all levels planned for Milestone 2 and
its story is by no means complete, but the game is already fun to
play.

SuperTux 0.3.2-SVN features:

* new, OpenGL- and OpenAL-based engine
* final boss for Icy Island
* brand new Forest World with new badguys and new game objects
* new and improved soundtrack, immersive sound effects
* much more...

The changes in more detail: The SuperTux 0.1 engine was nearly
completely rewritten. The game is translatable now, a new camera
algorithm allows scrolling in all four directions. Collision
detection supports slopes and moving objects now. We have scripting
support for dynamic level events and animations. New game objects
include trampolines, switches, portable stones, upside-down
levels, wind, moving platforms and particle effects. The sound
system is now OpenAL-based with an improved soundtrack now played
from Ogg/Vorbis-files, which were pre-rendered on a high-class
synthesizer.

This is also a call for artists and coders: If you like the game in
its current state, join us and help us finish Milestone 2!

[This is an automatic notification.]

Thanks for reporting this bug to help making the -ati graphics driver
better. We hear from upstream that a number of bugs (possibly including
this one) have been fixed in the newer DRM code from the 2.6.33 kernel.
I don't know if your bug is one of the ones fixed in this release,
though, but we've prepared a PPA with this DRM update. Would you mind
installing this, rebooting, and testing if the original issue can be
reproduced with it or not?

The DRM PPA is here:

Note there could be new bugs... please file these as new reports using
the command 'ubuntu-bug linux' (for kernel or DRM or KMS bugs) or
'ubuntu-bug xorg' if you suspect them to be X.org issues.

[Bug 526359] Re: Xorg not works on resume after suspend and hibernte

[This is an automatic notification.]

Thanks for reporting this bug to help making the -ati graphics driver

this one) have been fixed in the newer DRM code from the 2.6.33 kernel.
I don't know if your bug is one of the ones fixed in this release,

installing this, rebooting, and testing if the original issue can be

[Bug 532047] Re: Xorg crashed at first login attempt

2010-03-05 Thread TJ
I think this theory has some legs. I had noticed some apparently random
characters showing up on VT7 after stopping gdm manually during
debugging.

I've now restarted the PC several times, not touched the keyboard until
the gdm log-in screen appears. Select the user with the mouse and then
begin typing the password. After 3 characters xserver crashes and
restarts.

Use another tty to "sudo stop gdm" then Ctrl+Alt+F7. Once VT7 text
console is revealed it shows a few kernel log messages from the drm
driver (see bug #342122 "[i815] [drm:drm_release] *ERROR*
reclaim_buffers_locked() deadlock") but, more importantly, there's some
*quasi-random* characters appearing and, in most cases, they are the
same across reboots - suggesting they are generated.

They look to be partial control-code representations.

E.g: " ^X ^C
or: ^]^]^]^]^]^]^]^]^]^]88 88;

The latter happens if, as soon as the log-in dialog appears, I switch
away to VT1 (Ctrl+Alt+F1), log-in, then "sudo stop gdm" and then
Ctrl+Alt+F7.

If I stop the gdm process from a remote ssh session these characters
don't show up.

[Bug 532907] Re: controls at the left side of nautilus's windows

2010-03-05 Thread Alex Wardle
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 532932] [NEW] [PATCH] Autodetect if running an upstream kernel

2010-03-05 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apport

After some discussion on the Ubuntu kernel-team mailing list regarding
the apport kernel hook, there was feedback that asking a bug reporter if
they'd tested with the upstream kernel was slightly confusing and not
ideal. For example, if apport detected a kernel oops and prompted the
user to file the bug, the reporter won't know how to properly answer if
this has been tested/confirmed with the upstream kernel at this point in
time as they haven't been given any information as to the actual
contents of the oops until later in the reporting process. It was
suggested that auto detecting if the reporter is currently running an
upstream kernel would be best, otherwise just provide an informational
dialog asking them to test the upstream kernel later on and post their
results as a comment in the bug.

The patch attached does the following:

1) Auto detect if the reporter is currently running an upstream kernel. If so,
instruct them to report the issue upstream.
2) Move the check for running a non-Ubuntu kernel to earlier in the hook.
Otherwise we force the reporter to go through a series of questions and answers
only to be told they can not file the bug as it's not an official Ubuntu kernel.
3) Replace the yes/no ui question of "has this been tested upstream?" to just
an informational dialog requesting they test the upstream kernel and post their
results to the bug.

[Bug 498851] Re: [Regression] R300 low graphics mode on login

2010-03-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
[This is an automatic notification.]

Thanks for reporting this bug to help making the -ati graphics driver
better. We hear from upstream that a number of bugs (possibly including
this one) have been fixed in the newer DRM code from the 2.6.33 kernel.
I don't know if your bug is one of the ones fixed in this release,
though, but we've prepared a PPA with this DRM update. Would you mind
installing this, rebooting, and testing if the original issue can be
reproduced with it or not?

the command 'ubuntu-bug linux' (for kernel or DRM or KMS bugs) or
