I'm experiencing the (same?) problem with Lucid (and autofs-ldap). After rebooting, one time it works... another time not (until autofs is manually restarted) That does sound like an upstart race condition. Looking back on my original post I did use those options: mount -t smbfs -o username=user,password=short-password,dir_mode=0555,file_mode=0555 //ip/share /media/folder I can't seem to replicate the behavior at the moment (un-commenting old code dose not have the same effect as before) I'm assuming it was fixed some time between Aug 20 2008 (v2.6.24-19) and Jan 28 2010 (v2.6.28-18). mount.cifs //ip/share /media/folder -o file_mode=0555,dir_mode=0555,r,username=user,password=short-password also works. thanks for the help anyway, feel free to close the bug. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ntpdate Not sure, if this is a bug at all, but i see strange things. Fact is, system clock was totally wrong (about half an hour). Calling ntpdate with ntp.ubuntu.com as timeserver corrected the system time. I now started to explore. Thats what I've found: In if-up.d directory ntpdate-debian is called. This one uses /etc/default/ntpdate as a config file. In my configfile NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF was set to 'yes'. But ntp has never been installed on my system (as far as i know) and so config files for ntp did not exist (such as /etc/ntp.conf). So no servers from ntp, NTPSERVERS=ntp.ubuntu.com from /etc/defaut/ntpdate not used -- no syncing time. Workaround: Installed ntp and removed it. - /etc/ntp.conf now exists - ntpdate-debian syncs system time. BTW: I'm on lucid greetings! There is the script drop_mysql_tables missing in the binary package (there may be other usefull scripts in the source code package). This script is described in the bacula documentation and contained in the source code in src/cats. It can be used for cleaning the database from test runs. It would be very usefull to include this script in the binary distribution and should be put in /usr/share/bacula-director. Murray, While they both do involve a failure of the configuration process for the slapd package during an upgrade, I think the original bug report and your problem have separate root causes. In particular, the problem discussed in the original bug report relates to problems caused by invalid records that somehow crept into the LDAP database (but which were in that database before the package upgrade was started). In your case, though, there's no problem with the data in the LDAP database; instead you are getting errors caused by the fact that between Edgy and Karmic the openldap packages switched from v4.2 to v4.7 of the Berkeley Database libraries, and so the newly-install tools are refusing to work with the existing database files. (The DB-library version change is mentioned in the Debian changelog entry for openldap v2.4.15-1 .) Anyway, I am running into this same problem when attempting to upgrade from Hardy directly to Lucid. Since that's an LTS-to-LTS upgrade, I believe it's supposed to be a supported upgrade path, and so I opened a bug report on that particular issue, bug #536958.
