Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. [Bug 538848] [NEW] slapd.postinst doesn't mention configuration conversion step
Public bug reported: When I upgrade the slapd package from Hardy to Lucid, the slapd.postinst script automatically attempts to convert from the slapd.conf file to the slapd.d configuration directory. If that conversion attempt fails, a notification message is printed (Migrating slapd.conf file (/etc/ldap/slapd.conf) to slapd.d failed with the following error while running slaptest:). And the postinst script prints other notices about its activities: Backing up /etc/ldap/slapd.conf, Moving old database directories, Loading from /var/backups/, etc. However, if the configuation-conversion succeeds, the script currently does not print any message at all to notifiy the user that the conversion has taken place. [Bug 538871] [NEW] authbind fail on IPv6
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: authbind Hello, I think this package does not work with IPv6. The problem is that a lot of server depend on this. For instance, most Java based server running standard service (say a HTTPD, a SMTPD, etc) on standard port (priviledged port) depend on this package to be able to work. At this time, there is no way to run such a server on Linux without deactivating the IPv6 feature. (setcap is not working as well, FYI because generally speaking it has no deep) This is issue is blocking as the only workaround is to do a NAT port forward (untested) that is not a clean solution IMHO. Here are the steps : adduser -system glassfish Then add various flag like : /etc/authbind/byport is : -rwxr- 1 glassfish admin 0 2010-03-14 18:04 443 -rwxr- 1 glassfish admin 0 2010-03-13 23:05 80 /etc/authbind/byaddr is : -rwxr- 1 glassfish admin 0 2010-03-14 22:10 :: -rwxr- 1 glassfish admin 0 2010-03-14 22:09 0.0.0.0 -rwxr- 1 glassfish admin 0 2010-03-15 00:21 ::1 I also have byuid set to check (does not change the result as well) Here are the tests : sudo -u glassfish authbind --deep nc -l 0.0.0.0 80 work :) sudo -u glassfish authbind --deep nc -l localhost 80 work :) sudo -u glassfish authbind --deep nc -l 127.0.0.1 80 work :) sudo -u glassfish authbind --deep nc -l :: 80 nc: Permission denied sudo -u glassfish authbind --deep nc -l ::1 80 nc: Permission denied sudo -u glassfish authbind --deep nc6 -l -p 80 nc6: bind to source :: 80 failed: Permission non accordée (aka failed !) FYI, I have tried with byport + byaddr + byuid, all of them fail on IPv6 but succeed on IPv4. [Bug 381066] Re: Add option to display HTML mail in evolution
If I understand the last alternative part of this request, it is the same as the Prefer PLAIN option under the HTML Messages tab in Mail Preferences (I'm on Evolution version 2.28.1, Ubuntu 9.10). I currently use that option and am happy with it, but I still find myself wishing frequently to view the HTML version of certain messages. It would be very nice to have the option to switch display formats on the fly, as in the KMail button. The current flow looks like: 1. Click View menu 2. Click Preferences 3. Click Mail Preferences 4. Click HTML Messages 5. Change from Prefer PLAIN to Show HTML if present 6. Close preferences window 7. Switch to a different message and back again, to update message display format 8. [Bug 538639] Re: Support Application Indicators
VLC currently uses the Qt4 API for systray. There are roughly three paths to addressing your request: 1/ libQt4Gui takes care of it. As VLC upstream, that would have my preference (then I have no extra work to do). But the Qt4 people might think quite differently. 2/ The indicator application library is made suitable to replace the current Qt4 systray in VLC upstream. That means it has to support Windows, while not using glib, neither D-Bus (at least not on Windows). I somehow doubt that this is going to happen. Also, it is utmostly unlikely that VLC 1.2 would be ready in time for Lucid+1. By all chances, Lucid+1 Universe will ship VLC 1.1 which is already feature- frozen. 3/ Have Ubuntu fork the VLC systray from upstream. [Bug 538648] [NEW] Problem with X in Lucid on Lenovo T500
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg When I first installed Lucid on my T500 I believe everything seemd to be fine with the display. Recently though the screen has started giving flashes -- as though there was some form of sync problem for the display. The flashes are of irregular frequency and occurrence. I believe I am using the Intel chipset graphics device -- I am not actually aware of how to switch to using the alternate graphics hardware, but I am told it is not worth bothering with, so I haven't. I am using the Compiz window manager so I guess the problem could be there rather than with Xorg. There is no xorg.conf file so there is no overide of the default behaviour.
