[Bug 513273] Re: kvm with -vga std is broken since karmic
Dustin, You said: Upstream QEMU recommends that we use the bundled vgabios.bin and bios.bin in their tarball. However, these binary blobs are generated by GPLv2 code that is not part of the release tarball. Per Ubuntu policy, we are not allowed to ship binary blobs without the associated source code. Obviously, we must comply with our own policy, but removing these blobs cripples our qemu packages to supporting only a very small subset of architectures for the qemu binaries we ship, not to mention not fixing this bug. Would it not be possible to create two new source packages using the same versions of bios sources and compilation options that upstream uses? Eg, we obtain the upstream sources that the qemu team has blessed and put appropriately licensed sources in qemu-kvm-roms for main and the rest in qemu-kvm-roms-extras in multiverse. Then talk to upstream qemu on how they generated their blessed versions and do the same. This would fix this bug, bring us into compliance with our own policy and restore full functionality to qemu. -- kvm with -vga std is broken since karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/513273 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Not a bug: 'apt-get clear', then repeat the download (from anoter repository) -- success. [Bug 207791] Re: winbind forgets uid/name gid/name mappings in regulary periods
To people saying they have related bugs: This bug is for the idmap working fine on initial login, but the mapping being lost after the cache time is exceeded (with no other related winbind activity like authentications/logins). The id mapping can be seen (or seen as failed) using ls in a directory with files owned by an active directory user (success shows names, failure shows numbers). Preferably in a single comment please answer the following questions/steps: 0. Please file a separate bug if it's a separate issue. 1. If you find a configuration or specific set of versions that work, please list all the differences. 2. Please try everything below with a fresh install of lucid on a separate non-production system, if possible. 3. Please list the most recent package versions (e.g.: dpkg -l|grep -i samba, and maybe other packages. ubuntu-bug might help). It'd also be useful to list your distribution even if it's clear from the version numbers, just to save time looking it up. 4. Please list relevant configuration options (e.g. both winbind and idmap sections of /etc/samba/smb.conf and maybe more. ubuntu-bug might post the entire configuration file). 5. Check the log files for related information. /var/log/samba/log.winbind* might be more useful than some of the other log files. Post anything that might be relevant. 6. If using rid or ads as the backend, try to find out if you can still query the domain controller with wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g. You may need to check klist, net ads status, net ads info to see if your kerberos key didn't get renewed. Some of this should be run under sudo with an Active Directory (AD) authenticated user. Consider posting some of the output. 7. Try disabling the cache. Maybe try both winbind cache time 0 in smb.conf and with the line missing if you're not sure which disables the cache. Post to the bug the results of trying to get the mapping (e.g. by ls on a file owned by an Active Directory mapped user). 8. Try winbind offline logon = false in smb.conf and post the results of before and after cache timeout. 9. Post any information you can about the cache and mapping files. This could be a tbl file. The log files might give some information about this. 10. List whether you did a fresh install of Ubuntu or an upgrade. If it was an upgrade, what version(s) did you upgrade from? 11. Did you try any other idmap backends? If so, please list which ones and what order. I believe there might be a bug on switching backends without deleting a mapping file. [Bug 550022] Re: package samba-common-bin 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.6 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
Hi, I'm still not completely clear on what the problem is, but (surprisingly) the following fixed the problem for me. sudo apt-get purge samba-common-bin sudo aptitude download samba-common-bin sudo dpkg -i samba-common-bin_2%3a3.4.0-3ubuntu5.6_i386.deb sudo rm -f samba-common-bin_2%3a3.4.0-3ubuntu5.6_i386.deb In other words, installing the samba-common-bin package manually with dpkg worked just fine, whereas installing via apt-get did not. Before finding this work around, I did try the same and similiar approaches with aptitude / apt- get (i.e., for me at least, it definitely is the case that, no matter what I did, installing with apt-get or aptitude failed with the same error, regardless if I was reinstalling or installing after a remove or after a purge). [Bug 550022] Re: package samba-common-bin 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.6 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
Hi, For the developers / technically-minded, I should definitely note: The problem was pretty clearly related to the file /usr/bin/nmblookup.samba3 not being present. Indeed, after installing samba-common-bin with aptitude / apt-get (which always failed, as aforementioned), running dpkg -L samba-common-bin only showed 4 lines: /. /usr /usr/bin /usr/bin/net.samba3 Having installed samba-common-bin using dpkg (as aforementioned), dpkg -L samba-common-bin now shows 27 lines: /. /usr /usr/bin /usr/bin/net.samba3 /usr/bin/nmblookup.samba3 /usr/bin/smbpasswd /usr/bin/testparm.samba3 /usr/share /usr/share/man /usr/share/man/man1 /usr/share/man/man1/testparm.samba3.1.gz /usr/share/man/man1/nmblookup.samba3.1.gz /usr/share/man/man5 /usr/share/man/man5/smbpasswd.5.gz /usr/share/man/man5/lmhosts.5.gz /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz /usr/share/man/man7 /usr/share/man/man7/samba.7.gz /usr/share/man/man8 /usr/share/man/man8/net.samba3.8.gz /usr/share/man/man8/smbpasswd.8.gz /usr/share/doc /usr/share/doc/samba-common-bin /usr/share/doc/samba-common-bin/copyright /usr/share/doc/samba-common-bin/NEWS.Debian.gz /usr/share/doc/samba-common-bin/README.build.gz /usr/share/doc/samba-common-bin/changelog.Debian.gz I can say for certain that, with a failed apt-get / aptitude install attempt, the file /usr/bin/net.samba3 *was* present and /usr/bin/nmblookup.samba3 was *not* present. I cannot speak definitively about any other files, but my sense was that *only* net.samba3 was installed, somehow nmblookup.samba3 failed to install (w/o error, however), and then the next step in the install process was to update alternatives for nmblookup, which naturally failed because nmblookup.samba3 was indeed not present, at which point the entire install stopped and nothing else was installed. [Bug 538425] Re: Slideshow doesn't mention ipod support
Ah, yes, the good old pocket-sized jukeboxes :) Latest version almost said iPod, but I wimped out and the last line ended up: “Plug in an MP3 player to start synchronizing your music collection, or insert a CD to copy songs to your computer.” (That particular text is by Matt Griffin, who made it sound much better than I did... although I somehow missed that it changed back to MP3 Player from Portable Music Player. Oh well, strings are rigid now. On the list for Maniacal Mongoose). As I went about updating the content, Various reasons came to mind for avoiding the brand mention: As mentioned, Apple has the upper hand there in that they can just say your iPod and assume nobody owns anything else. We can't do that ;) This is a long-term release, iPods are notoriously difficult to support. We really can't expect ANY iPods to work by Lucid's end of life. (Although hopefully the necessary libraries will see some backports; I'm not a _complete_ pessimist). As I understand it, we would need to add a trademark notice, and I for one hate those things. -- Slideshow doesn't mention ipod support https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/538425 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 549365] [NEW] Terminals have a translucent background
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: light-themes After a recent update to the Ambiance theme, terminals now have a translucent background. This greatly hinders the readability of text, especially if there are sharp features behind the terminal and the Compiz blur plugin is not usable or enabled. The readability problem of text on a background with high-frequency features should be obvious. Are arguments needed? The background is translucent enough for even tiny text behind the window to be completely readable. That should be an indicator of how much trouble it causes. Readable text composited over readable text simply becomes less readable. On the other hand, if the translucency is made low enough for things behind to window to be virtually invisible, might as well turn it off altogether. [Bug 549339] Re: Ubuntu One folder on computer not being updated
I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One is not working properly for you. If you would like to help debug the problem that would be greatly appreciated. You can do the following in order to provide important details that will help determine the root cause of this issue. 1) Quit the Ubuntu One client. Right-click on the Ubuntu One applet and select 'Quit' 2) Open Applications-Accessories-Terminal, then run the command: mv ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log_old mkdir ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log 3) Run the following in the Terminal to open/create this file: gedit ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf #Add the following two (2) lines to this file and save: [__main__] log_level = DEBUG 4) Open Ubuntu One Applications-Internet-Ubuntu One 5) Let Ubuntu One run for a while, copy some files into your Ubuntu One Folder. Then attach the following logs to this bug: ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon.log ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon-exceptions.log You can attach logs to this bug report by clicking the 'Add Attachment or patch' button at the bottom of the page. [Bug 136252] Re: [karmic] mdadm.conf w/o ARRAY lines but udev/mdadm not assembling arrays.
Adopting from #226484 (now a duplicate of this one): This is a bug with mdadm --incremental not doing hotplug, because it looks for permission to do so in mdadm.conf. On hotplug systems mdadm.conf should not have to contain any specific references, to make things clear and for backwards compatibility maybe it could contain explicit any statements like this:? DEVICE any HOMEHOST any ARRAY any This whole bussiness of locking down array assembly (homehost,ARRAY) may just be due to the historical (suboptimal) mdadm design to assamble raids going by major/minor numbers saved in the superblocks. Those should always be considered being dynamic (depreciated as a reference). Using --assemble --uuid mdadm takes a UUID and matches this unique but same UUID to determine member devices, this is appropriate for default behavour. Of course we should refrain from running arrays that are not complete (to avoid leading them to desync by subsequent writes), unless it is required to recover data or boot from a specific failed array. For this case we should use --run specific device manually or in a startup scripts. -- [karmic] mdadm.conf w/o ARRAY lines but udev/mdadm not assembling arrays. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136252 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
