Dear Chuck,

Sorry to bother you, but I think you can cancel the issue from the bug

running
$ ./configure --prefix/homme/.../clamav --disable-clamav
$ make; make install
followed by
# groupadd clamav
# useradd -g clamav -s /bin/false -c Clam AntiVirus

as described in the ClamAv user manual the system seems to be running

Nevertheless thank you for your immediate respond and sorry again

[Bug 560686] [NEW] Shouldn't use rmadison

2010-04-11 Thread Loïc Minier
Public bug reported:

Hi

This is to collect my thoughts on dropping the need for rmadison which
seems to be the reason for the devscripts Depends/Recommends.

Currently, vm-builder/VMBuilder/plugins/ubuntu/distro.py uses rmadison
to query the version (particularly the ABI version) of the Xen kernel to
use for the guest. This is used as a default for the --xen-kernel and
--xen-ramdisk filenames in the generated config file. I understand that
the expectation is that the host has the kernels for the guest system
installed.

What's wrong with the current approach?
- devscripts is heavy and pulls in many deps not desirable on a server install
(mostly useful on developers' systems)
- rmadison introduces a runtime dependency on the network and Launchpad / CGIs
in particular; that is, if Launchpad is down, rmadison fails; rmadison fails
multiple times per day against the Debian servers too (albeit vm-builder
doesn't support Debian ATM); it might be desirable to run vm-builder in
environments without access to the public Internet / Launchpad, or during
Launchpad downtimes, and passsing --xen-kernel / --xen-ramdisk is slightly less
handy
- this is not friendly to Ubuntu derivatives or other Debian derivatives not
providing a rmadison service, or for local xen kernels, but these require
porting anyway

*If* vm-builder really needs to query this data, I would recommend
parsing the Packages.gz files of the target (perhaps from
$target/var/lib/apt/*_Packages).

However, I believe it's useful to have the kernel package installed within the
xen guest, to provide the corresponding modules. So I would propose that:
- vm-builder installs linux-image-xen (or linux-image-server, or
linux-image-virtual etc.) in the xen guests
- vm-builder uses the $target/boot/ramdisk and $target/boot/kernel files
(without the $target prefix) for the xen config, unless overriden on the
command-line

Does the proposed approach makes sense?

Thanks,

[Bug 424648] Re: Error: ssh program unexpectedly exited when trying to browse files on router

2010-04-11 Thread Alex Goretoy
i get the same error when i try to connect to OpenSSH_5.1p1 from
nautilus, works from command line(bash). Also it used to work in
nautilus but then start giving me this error all of a sudden.

I know if I reboot and try to connect with nautilus again to the same
server this error will not show until it shows again.

i have tried to do killall nautilus and try to reconnect again but still
it gives me this error.

I am using karmic.

Maybe this is something with DBus? just guessing.

If there was more output I could debug more but I dont know where to
look in this case.

Re: [Bug 369575] Re: Why is /usr/share/pam-configs/krb5 specifying minimum_uid= ?

2010-04-11 Thread Russ Allbery
Steve Langasek steve.langa...@canonical.com writes:

Honestly, I don't see any good choices at the packaging level for
 permuting the pam_krb5 options used.

Yeah, that's what it was looking like to me as well.

Why wouldn't it work to have krb5-config do a one-time adjustment of
/etc/krb5.conf on upgrade (w/ version guard), and give libpam-krb5 a
versioned dependency on the version of krb5-config that implements this?

Hm, yes, I suppose I could try that. I don't see an obvious problem with
it, at least. I'll run that past Sam and see what he thinks about it.

I'm a little concerned by the implications for sites that maintain a
site-wide krb5.conf file that they distribute to all of their systems and
don't have this setting in it because it doesn't apply uniformly to all of
their systems. In that situation, they really need to use PAM
configuration instead, and this transition could easily leave them without
a minimum_uid setting. But I suppose that's what NEWS.Debian is for.

As for your original problem, Daniel, - you already have to set the
 non-default minimum_uid in krb5.conf; why couldn't you automatically
apply the same setting to /etc/pam.d/common-* by the same mechanism?
There may be room for improvement in the package defaults, but ISTM that
this shouldn't stand in the way of you solving your immediate problem -
especially given that you're decidedly not using the package defaults
 anyway.

Right -- if you're already distributing a krb5.conf with this setting,
surely the same mechanism could be used to override the PAM configuration
as well.

[Bug 530541] Re: desktopcouch-service crashed with RuntimeError in run_couchdb()

2010-04-11 Thread VinDSL
Did you test Ubuntu One out after rebooting? I deleted the pid file, rebooted
and did
not experience any couchdb problems until I tried to go into Ubuntu One. Then
I got
the same crashes as before. Problem not fixed on my system.

Yes, I tested Ubu One (last night) and it worked fine.

Here's the thing...

When I just rebooted my system (for probably the 5th time in approx 24
hr) I'm back to getting the desktopcouch-service can't be started
warning.

However...

Ubu One is still working. Dittos for Gwibber, Pidgin, et cetera.
Everything is working except, I'm back to getting the (supposed)
desktopcouch-service cannot be started dialog.

[Bug 560492] [NEW] problem of sampling rate with default output

2010-04-11 Thread ptitpoul
Public bug reported:

I discovered the problem by listening a linear chirp on wikipedia,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Linchirp.ogg. At about 1 sec, a second
chirp can be heard. On the bad quality recording attached, it's hearable
from 1.5 sec. I recorded it with Audacity playing the chirp sound in the
same time. The playing device of ALSA in Audacity is set on default.
When I change it for dmix, the problem disappears. I observed the same
in VLC, when I change the output device for ALSA from predefined
(problem) to HDA Intel: ALC269 Analog (hw:0,0). I suspect a problem of
sampling rate, for example between 44100 and 48000 Hz, in alsa
configuration.

2010-04-11 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

This program will search your sensors for pulse width modulation (pwm)
controls, and test each one to see if it controls a fan on
your motherboard. Note that many motherboards do not have pwm
circuitry installed, even if your sensor chip supports pwm.

We will attempt to briefly stop each fan using the pwm controls.
The program will attempt to restore each fan to full speed
after testing. However, it is ** very important ** that you
physically verify that the fans have been to full speed
after the program has completed.

/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed

why?!!!

[Bug 516520] Re: pam_unix(gdm:auth): conversation failed

2010-04-11 Thread Chris Thompson
I would like to confirm that I have the same problem (as NoOp) on a test

It is ok when using AutomaticLogin.
I have a single user on the system.
It failed after an update somewhere between 26 March to 6 April (I was away for
a week, came back, updated and the problem appeared).
I have just been waiting for a fix thinking that such a fault would be
catastrophic and would be fixed immediately, but it seems from this dialog that
it is hardly recognised!

Drive disappears from nautilus and can not be detected by brasero when empty cd
or dvd is inserted.
Behavior with music/data/video cd/dvd is normal.

BR,
/kk

[Bug 530541] Re: desktopcouch-service crashed with RuntimeError in run_couchdb()

2010-04-11 Thread VinDSL
Hrm...

If I'm reading the above correctly, desktopcouch-service is crashing
twice (around midnight) then being ignored until (around midnight) the
next day.

So, now I'm thinking that deleting the pid file was simply a
coincidence, e.g. mimicking a fix.

Still, that doesn't answer why my Ubu One is working, regardless or
whether (or not) desktopcouch-service is running.

Maybe it's a bogus warning.

I'll have to think about this for a while. LoL! I've (evidently) got
24 hours to come up with a solution...

[Bug 555671] Re: Accidentally-reset RTC not recovering on restart

2010-04-11 Thread Jeroen T. Vermeulen
The only thing I can think of is: this is a June 2009 MacBook Pro, with
the battery probably completely drained. Since this model has a fixed
battery, it may also feed the hardware clock.

(Garh, part of my typing went into the wrong window again... For a
while I thought the disable touchpad while typing had started working
in Lucid :-/ )

  Binary package hint: indicator-applet

I've upgraded my June 2009 Macbook Pro from Karmic to Lucid. The
battery indicator applet had been working, but right now it isn't. I
see the indicator applet, and I can open its About dialog and
preferences, but I get no information about battery status. Instead it
shows the power-plug-like image. There is no tooltip.

- The problem may be related to some failed suspend attempts I made just
- now; the system was probably still trying to suspend as I unplugged the

Digital 500GB My Book external hard drive connected via firewire.

I can confirm that after manually patching the file my external drive is
recognized by Ubuntu. (Note: installing Jerone's patch via command line
would not work for me)

[Bug 554296] Re: Fonts chipped with subpixel hinting enabled on NV46 (G72M Quadro NVS 110M, GeForce Go 7300)

2010-04-11 Thread karlbowden
I might also add that I am seeing the same thing with the nouveau driver and
subpixel hinting enabled, and when I switch to the closed nvidia driver I'm not
sure how to describe it but in openoffice and gvim I am seeing blocky font
corruption when subpixel hinting is enabled.
If I switch back to best contrast, everything returns to normal.
See attached screen shots.

[Bug 560500] [NEW] nm-applet needs to be restarted after checking unchecking sharing box in vino

2010-04-11 Thread John B.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vino

Not sure if this should be filed against vino (Remote Desktop) or nm-
applet. When running System-Preferences-Remote Desktop, checking and
then unchecking Allow others to view your desktop causes nm-applet to
shut off (or crash, or stall, or something) so that wireless no longer
functions. Restarting nm-applet from a terminal brings the internet
back up. I would expect that checking unchecking the allow others to
view your desktop box would not hinder *my* connection to others, just
*their* connection to me. If the bug that I am experiencing is indeed
the default behavior, some notification of what needs to be done to
restore connectivity should be given.

[Bug 560502] [NEW] Ubuntu's ghc is compiled without HAVE_RTLDNEXT

2010-04-11 Thread Daniel Silva
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ghc6

As per
http://darcs.haskell.org/ghc-6.6/packages/unix/System/Posix/DynamicLinker/Prim.hsc
and http://darcs.haskell.org/packages/unix/include/HsUnix.h, ghc6 (or is
it libghc6-unixutils-dev?) needs to be compiled with the HAVE_RTLDNEXT
flag for its dlsym to support RTLD_NEXT, which is a valid flag in
Ubuntu's libc as per the dlsym manpage.

Without this support, it becomes difficult to use ghc to write shared
libraries meant to be used through LD_PRELOAD.

[Bug 560485] Re: Setting up grub-pc (1.98-1ubuntu4) ... hangs

2010-04-11 Thread Björn Buckwalter
Since I'm on virtualbox I restored a pre-upgrade snapshot and tried
again. This worked for me:

1. Upgrade all packages that do not depend on grub-pc (or rather those that
Synaptic would let me upgrade without upgrading grub-pc).
2. Upgrade only grub-pc and grub-common. This time a window popped up during
the Setting up grub-pc (1.98-1ubuntu4) ... phase asking what to do with my
existing (non-standard) /etc/default/grub. I chose to keep it and the
installation completed successfully.

I presume that this window should have popped up during my previous
attempts to, but for some reason it didn't and the installer appeared to
hang while it was waiting for inputs from the window.

[Bug 560506] [NEW] Compiz and glx* fail on glXCreateContext

2010-04-11 Thread astronouth7303
Public bug reported:

Just updated to Lucid Lynx beta 2

Compiz prints out this:
compiz (core) - Fatal: glXCreateContext failed
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

  Launching fallback window manager

glx* (glxinfo, glxgears, etc) print out:
  Error: glXCreateContext failed

I am using the nvidia driver on a GeForce 8600 GT.

Possibly related, nothing using OpenGL works. lightsoff, World of Goo,
neverball, armagetron advanced. They all fail to create a GL context.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 530541] Re: desktopcouch-service crashed with RuntimeError in run_couchdb()

2010-04-11 Thread VinDSL
Epilog: I was going to go play a flash game on Facebook, while I mulled
this situation over, but while I was logging in, I thought, Duh! Why
don't I follow the breadcrumbs???

I just looked at my /var/crash/ folder, and I had 3 files in there.

One report was for a Plymouth crash (from when I first updated to 10.04
via the web)

One report was for Gwibber (from 4-April) ...

And, one report was for desktopcouch-service (see the path in the above
text).

The CoreDump is Base64 and unintelligible (to me). I wonder why we
cannot submit these reports to someone.

Okay, I'm going to go play Cafe World, and think about this some more.
Carry on... :)

It might be a bug in the app , could you add a screenshot of the same
window with Human theme?

The line is supposed to be minimally visible , and not supposed to be
prominent , setting to wishlist as this is a request to change the
default designed behavior

[Bug 555916] Re: NetBIOS name resolution broken, but extremely easy to fix

2010-04-11 Thread Steve Langasek
Connecting to ftp servers and pinging machines uses the system hostname
resolution, true; connecting to Windows fileshares, using a protocol
that natively supports NetBIOS names, does not.

And there are security and scalability reasons why it's not feasible to
enable wins as part of hostname resolution by default.

[Bug 542634] Re: Add python-zope.security-untrustedpython metapackage

2010-04-11 Thread Gediminas Paulauskas
We wanted to get SchoolTool into Lucid, but of course it is too late
now. I have uploaded all the missing packages to the SchoolTool PPA, but
there are some changes needed to packages already in Lucid so that we
can use them - and there aren't other users of zope packages in Ubuntu.
If fixes likes this one don't get accepted I will have to upload the
same, fixed package to the PPA, but then what's the point having that
package in Ubuntu?

[Bug 531173] Re: New Lucid keyboard layout indicator does not indicate current layout

2010-04-11 Thread Oded Arbel
Axx: you are correct - I tried that again with another login and it
worked as you said. There is apparently something wrong with my user
account that won't let me change the layouts available in the keyboard
indicator, but this is another bug (if its a but).
