[Bug 566651] Re: Thunderbird crashed during normal operations (segmentation fault)

2010-04-19 Thread Cesare Mastroianni

Thank you for the hint. I tried "apport-collect 566651", but the command-line
ended with

>> IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied:
'/home/cece/.cache/apport/launchpad.credentials' <<

It seems that I have no rights to read some file in the cache of my home
directory ("cece" is my login name).

Regards.

Also, with regard to the apport report, it crashed during the final

2010-04-19 Thread imwithid
This solved the problem:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8881261#post8881261

It is the first time that I've ever been able to use the external
microphone.

I find that there seems to be confusion or a lack of clarity in many of
the forums with respect to hardware. Although desktops and laptops have
become more similar, the prevalence of laptops and portable computers in
general have made finding solutions messy, especially for desktops. I
was fortunate enough to find this solution in this case.

[Bug 567071] [NEW] Not all files and folders synchronise

2010-04-19 Thread JohnY
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

Not all files and folders synchronise, and synchronisation that does
take place is mostly (seemingly) random with some files / folders
synchronising as they should and others not at all. Non synchronised
files do not appear on web or on other system (I share my ubuntu one
between my laptop and desktop).

Recent examples;

Created 9 new folders on laptop, only 8 synchronised to web, these
gradually appeared on the desktop over the course of a couple of days,
taking several hours to just synchronise an almost empty folder, still
no sign of the 9th folder on web or desktop.

A 15MB zip file (from laptop) took over 16hrs to appear on the web
interface and another full day to appear on my desktop, other zip files
have refused to synchronise for over two weeks now, they simply never
appear on the web interface or the other system (regardless of their
origin).

Files saved directly from GIMP and / or OpenOffice to Ubuntu One folder
only synchronise around 50% of the time, sometimes a restart fixes this
by causing a re-synchronise on login, sometimes however this doesn't
work and again it can take several days for files to appear on the web
or the other system (regardless of origin), whether those files are a
few kilobytes, several megabytes, etc.

I could easily go on and give many more examples :-(

[Bug 567068] [NEW] udev rules with dot in key fails with Env must be KEY=VALUE pairs

2010-04-19 Thread Peter Löfgren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

Trying to configure my Logitech Marble for Lucid (amd64) as per
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Logitech_Marblemouse_USB
using udev rules. The rule is run, but fails with error

[13838.180329] usb 7-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 5
[13838.359037] usb 7-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

Mouse [Logitech USB Trackball] on usb-:00:1d.1-1/input0
upstart-udev-bridge[423]Env must be KEY=VALUE pairs

Now if I comment all x11_options like
#ENV{x11_options.Buttons}="9"
the "Env must be KEY=VALUE pairs" error is gone when plugging in the Logitech
mouse.
So I tried to instead removed the dot (.) in the notation above

ENV{x11_optionsButtons}="9"
and then it works, meaning it runs the rule without the KEY=VALUE error. But of
course the mouse configuration does not take place.

In response to forum post http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1458123
it was pointed to http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=576811
saying that this wont be fixed. Instead use xorg.conf, but that is not
available by default in Lucid, nor is Hal, and now this.

I'm not sure of this just needs a documentation update or a udev fix.
But removing Hal, xorg.conf, and the udev rules does not work puts the
user in limbo.

2010-04-19 Thread Tor Henning Ueland

When setting the volume to 100%, the sound still stays to low to hear
anything.

I Have to run AlsaMixer through the console and set the volume there for
it to have effect on my headset, it appears that the volume set in
gnome-volume-control is multiplied with the level set in AlsaMixer?

It should not be nessessary to start a console application to get
correct sound on a -- plug and play -- USB headset.

Note that the sound using normal speakers/jack is normal.

[Bug 538501] Re: [Lucid] Xorg crashes when you plug in a monitor

2010-04-19 Thread chewit
Chris, how the hell do i access System→Preferences→Monitors when I cant
get a GUI up.

Also, monitors should work when you plug them in! Ubuntu 7.10,
8.04,8.10, 9.04, 9.10 using intel, ati and nv drivers allowed me to
unplug the monitor and plug it back in. Even in Windows!

Question, how do I tell the livecd to use the nv drivers instead of the
nouveau drivers, because that would solve the problem.

[Bug 565094] Re: [gm45] X should consider laptop monitor disconnected if lid is closed

2010-04-19 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
This has been a deliberate move by the upstream developers, who were
finding that many laptops lied about their lid status and so would
disable the laptop screen. When there were no other monitors plugged in
this obviously made those systems totally unsuable, and there were a
continual stream of bugs about different laptops being broken by this.

That said, the Nouveau project responded to the same sort of bugs by
setting the laptop screen's status as “unknown” if the lid was down,
which causes the screen to be disabled unless there's definitely no
other display plugged in. That might be a workable solution for -intel,
too.

for me it was an one-off event, it was a giveaway book - I managed to

If I do find the file, I can't check if it works on Lucid yet, as it's

do and I'm not very keen on breaking my system)

[Bug 428884] Re: gnome-screensaver-command --poke no longer inhibits screensaver

2010-04-19 Thread Spang
Been on Lucid since beta 1. Upgraded to the latest package versions just
yesterday. For the first time since the migration to KDE4 apps I kept
the Kaffeine upgrade (0.8.7 to 1.0). Since this is marked duplicate of
bug 531306 I should note here that when using Kaffeine screen saver
inhibition, or at least stand-by inhibition, is not working when
watching tv from dvb.

btw, this problem occurred in the KDE3 version package as well, was then
caused by a missing build dependency (I think) and was solved with a ppa
package.

[Bug 44058] Works only once on HP Pavillion zv6149

2010-04-19 Thread Matthijs ten Kate
On my HP Pavillion zv6149, I noticed that when I manually set
'suspend' (when closing the lid) in the Power Management settings, it
works once when I close the lid. The system also resumes when I then
open the lid.
It doesn't work anymore when I close the lid for a second time. Only
suspending the system from the menu works then.
However, as soon as I change the setting to 'no action' and then back to
'suspend', it works again, but again only once.

Suspending from the menu always works, so this is definitely a
'detect-close-lid-and-take-proper-action'-thing.

[Bug 182008] Re: [needs-packaging] ies4linux

2010-04-19 Thread rusivi
I am using Ubuntu 9.10, and IEs4Linux 2.99.0.1, please, please, please
continue working on a package for IEs4Linux that eliminates the memory &
CPU leak mentioned in the following bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/205895

I am in a bind where I try to use a certification testing website:

www.selftestsoftware.com

which, despite offering certification testing for CompTIA Linux+, they
don't have proper support for the native operating system for Linux,
Firefox! Many of the modules don't work in anything but IE. I have
tried Firefox with User Agent Switcher as well as Opera and Galeon,
nothing works but IE/IEs4Linux. With IEs4Linux if I leave the window
idle for a few minutes in the SelfTest module, the customary website
timeout occurs, the screen(s) goes grey, the window bricks, and I have
to open System Monitor and kill iexplorer.exe, explorer.exe, and
wineserver.exe because my processor and memory are at +90% utilization
for seemingly no apparent reason.

If upstream seems to have given up on this, get on with it anyways! I
assure you, the Ubuntu community will be in your debt for your efforts.

I am not technically savvy enough to contribute code towards this
effort, but on behalf of the community, we are begging you, please work
on this!

[Bug 462277] Re: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.31/kernel/power/suspend_test.c:52 suspend_test_finish+0x80/0x90()

2010-04-19 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi davidfirth1,

The warning reported here typically indicates that it took longer for
your system to resume from suspend than expected. I believe there is a
5 sec barrier which your system likely exceeded. Based on your dmesg
output I see PM: resume devices took 8.104 seconds. A patch to prevent
this warning has been applied via bug 464552. As a result I'm marking
this as a duplicate to bug 464552. Please continue to track this issue
at that report. Thanks!

Re: [Bug 560899] Re: After upgrading to Lucid, xorg exits after a couple of minutes

I'm running a stock, on-patched 2.6.33.1 kernel from kernel.org, the same one
I was using with Karmic (I did not rebuild it, or rebuild the initramfs, it's
really the same kernel), with a pretty normal configuration.

I don't know what plymouth is, so I don't think so.

This bug reproduced right after upgrading to Lucid. I did not have any odd
configuration conflict or anything to adjust, it was a smooth upgrade, except
for this.

After reading https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MainInclusionReport/Plymouth trying to
find more about plymouth, I guess you should know that I don't see any kind of
graphic boot, probably because I do not have a framebuffer console.

I just see the normal text boot sequence until xdm starts. X also runs just
fine until it exits (i.e. all the normal applications, panel firefox, etc.,
open up and run just fine).

Everything runs ok under gdb, that's how I've been using my system since the
upgrade.

> The SIGQUIT there makes me suspicious.

Sorry I can't provide more details about that, I've filed bug #562418 and I
hope it gets solved soon so I can get more useful backtraces.

Thanks for taking a look. Is there anything you want me to do/test?

Alberto

[Bug 446717] Re: [gm45] Adjusting Brightness in Acer Aspire Timelines causes system freeze in 4810T and 5810T models

2010-04-19 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Since you can reproduce this easily it would be good if someone could
reproduce it, SSH into the machine, and run “apport-collect 446717”.

Additionally, since this seems to work fine under KDE it would be good
to check if it works with metacity's compositor, too. You can enable
that by turning off desktop effects and running “gconftool-2 --set
--type=bool /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager true” from a
terminal. This would possibly indicate a notify-osd issue.

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Incomplete

associated but lost the association after a short time and was not able
to regain it.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/418282

They also tried disabling the check I mentioned in my last post and had
similar results. I also tried forcing version 2.

With these modifications to elantech.c, dmesg says:
elantech.c: assuming hardware version 2, firmware version 4.17

If debugging is then enabled by:
sudo sh -c "echo 2 > /sys/bus/serio/drivers/psmouse/serio4/debug"

(serio4 was determined by dmesg | grep Elantech the number may vary on
other systems)

...and then watch the output of syslog while messing with the touchpad:
tail -f /var/log/syslog | grep elantech.c

The packets do not seem to match the "Native absolute mode 6 byte packet
format" described in:
http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/input/elantech.txt

As far as I can gather, this is what the first byte looks like for these
touchpads:

76543210
11100100 three fingers 0xE4
1100 two fingers 0x84
01010100 thumb 0x54
01000100 one finger 0x44
1000 no finger 0x04

x and y aren't at all obvious to me, I haven't got a clue about the
other 5 bytes.

[Bug 542251] Re: [i915] Initialises before agpgart

2010-04-19 Thread Arkashkin
I don't know what changes you did and where but I prefer lucid beta-1, at least
there I could turn on the visual effects...
Maybe some one could point me out what to downgrade so the the visual effects
will work again?
