[Bug 568322] Re: Some functions aren't working like they should (see description)
This is an answer to Charles: ad. 3 > If by this you mean torrents continue to seed after the seed ratio has been reached, this is confirmed to happen sometimes. The upstream ticket is http://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/1869. in many cases yes ad. 4 > If so, then "Ask for more peers" is working exactly as designed by one torrent I had a list of trackers and the "ask for more peers" function was disabled and grayed out ad. 5 > There are many factors at work here, and priorities are only one of them. If a particular peer doesn't have the pieces we need for a file, we won't request them from that peer. Or, if we do request them from a peer that's responding slowly, pieces from a different file may come in faster. We can control which pieces we ask for, but we can't control which order we get them in. it's strange that you think so... Some other torrent clients (mostly windows ones) have the same possibility and after the priority got changed, the files with higher priority were downloaded in the first order (tested on the same file on other torrent client's) ad. 6 > I'm not able to reproduce this issue. Could you please try this in Transmission 1.92 and see if the problem persists? in this case please update the Ubuntu repository to have the newer version on. The Ubuntu repositories are mostly outdated ad. 7 > If you want to say there is no influence at all then I'll need to see more information. I have changed allowed speed to limit brandwitch usage for upload then some time the limit was exceeded and the upload was going faster ad. 8 > Setting torrent priority influences which peers get a first shot at the bandwidth that Transmission has allocated for that timeslice. If the peers on a high-priority torrent are unable to make use of that extra bandwidth, then the normal- and then low- priority torrents are given an opportunity to use it. We can control which peers we try first, but we can't control how much they're willing to send us. Not exactly true. I have 2 torrents and I had set 2 priorities: one was as hight and second as normal. The normal one was treaten by client like with higher priority then the hight one ad. 9 > Same as my response for #7, though I'll add some users have gotten confused by accidentally turning off the "Honor Global Limits" checkbox in Torrent > Properties > Options s.t. a torrent will download faster than the user wanted it to. I think that the "Honor global limits" is redundant in the client and makes only users confused and frustrated about beeing unable to set individual transfer speed's ad. 10 > Setting the peer limit definitely does influence the maximum number of peers that you're allowed to have. [Bug 568826] [NEW] Ubuntu One Preferences freezes when opened
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client My Ubuntu One is not syncing with the server (although I have a second computer which continues to be connected). I tried to open Ubuntu One Preferences, and the application opened, but in a frozen state. That is, I could not change tab, and clicking on the buttons had no effect. I could not close it, and right-clicking on the top gave a drop-down box, but selecting close did not cause any difference. I can minimise the window, but when I reopen, the window is blank except for "Ubuntu One Preferences" across the top. I gave it several hours, but have just killed it with system monitor. Incidentally I tried this a few days ago, and the effect was the same on this computer. Rebooting has had no effect. 1. I'm using the lucid lynx. 2. I'm not sure what the package is called. I accessed via System - Preferences - Ubuntu One. 3. I expected to be able to fiddle around with my Ubuntu One settings (as I have done on my other lap top, also updated with Lucid Lynx). I was trying to see whether I could get my Ubuntu One to be connected to the server. 4. The preferences applet was unresponsive. [Bug 568823] [NEW] Improved Java Memory/Performance Defaults
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: tomcat6 Forking an issue from #541520 The current default of a 128MB heap does not make sense. This was chosen when Java 1.4 had a default maximum heap size of 64MB. In Java 1.5 and later, the JVM will automatically size the heap based on available memory. So the current default setting actually unnecessarily sets a limit on the memory available to tomcat, when not setting anything at all would actually allow the modern JVMs to do a better job. [Bug 561390] Re: LVM - /var failed to mount during boot
Tried the PPA over in bug #567910, still get problems I am getting tempted to have ago at this myself. May I suggest a fix for mountall to get this thing from being a show stopper? This whole thing could be avoided if a mount for the file system read from fstab is tried. If this fails, then the 'press 'M' for shell, or 's' to skip' should be shown. The file system is in /etc/fstab for a reason, and having a blind go and checking the return code of the mount operation is justified given that udev is creating all the device nodes etc needed. Missing an add/change event from udev in early boot can be a hard thing to debug., unless you set a a 20G partition as LVM, add 10 !G LVs to /etc/fstab, and run gdb on mountall in a terminal window... You can activate and deactivate the the test volume group with '# vgchange -a y /dev/' wile logged in to the desktop. The symptoms seem to match those of bug #18361, but *only* happen for indicator-appet. Other menus (including indicator-applet-session) do not cause this behaviour. [Bug 568820] [NEW] Disk Utility should provide an option to automount partition after every reboot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility I am currently running Ubuntu 10.04 on a Macbook pro, and I have a couple of HFS+ (Unjournaled) partitions that I want to be able to access from within Ubuntu. However, every time I restart, I need to mount the HFS+ partitions manually by clicking on the disk name in Places. I would like to automate that process, so that the disk is automatically mounted on each reboot. I know one way of doing that is by modifying the /etc/fstab file, but it would be nice if Disk Utility provided an option to automount each partition after a reboot. Wouldn't it be better if the default was for internal partitions to be actually mounted. [Bug 568818] [NEW] Lucid memory leak, proprietary driver
Public bug reported: I am having Lucid Lynx lock up on me after a period of normal use. It appears to be running out of memory (by my untrained eye looking at the dmesg) but I am /surely/ not running enough applications to consume my 3GiB of memory. I am running compiz with the proprietary nvidia driver. *The problem appears similar to bug 865981* but I am using the proprietary driver so it cannot be GEM related. Attached is everything I could find related to this. http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/420819/ This is definitely reproducible after a period of time, so I can gather more information if necessary. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 472460 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. [Bug 475090] Re: Karmic, Lucid: /etc/gdm/Xsession fails to source ~/.xsessionrc or apply ~/.Xresources
These have the same root cause, yes. /etc/X11/Xsession.d is shared with other *dm's though, so it's the gdm Xsession script that needs to remove duplicate functionality which is already set in Xsession.d (the script is from redhat anyway, no?). Adding these variables would essentially fix both bugs. Debian now has 2.30 in unstable, maybe I should have a look at that too.. -- Karmic, Lucid: /etc/gdm/Xsession fails to source ~/.xsessionrc or apply ~/.Xresources https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/475090 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 509006] Re: [dove] hibernation failed to resume
After several rounds of error and trial with JTAG debugging, it turned out this may be related to the page table being corrupted during hibernation resume. With explicit 'resume=/dev/sda5' in kernel command line, the resume happens earlier as the kernel is still running as swapper (or idle) process, and the page table is placed somewhere safe (PHYS == 0x_4000 if you are interested), and the content will not be overwritten during the RAM content restoration. While resume triggered by initramfs, it's actually running a user space program (i.e. /bin/resume from klibc-utils), with the page table for this specific process being potentially overwritten. This apparently affects all ARM variants, and we need a patch to avoid such overwrite. -- [dove] hibernation failed to resume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/509006 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 559761] Re: mountall needs to flush plymouth message queue before emitting upstart events
Alright, I have narrowed the problem down to gdm not being initialized during the boot process, for when I am kicked to tty1, I simply 'sudo gdm' and I arrive at the gnome login screen and business as usual. None of the subsequent modifications to mountall nor initramfs that are now in the repository have changed this yet. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox Hey :) sorry for posting yet another flash related problem - there seem to be so many of them, but this seems to be a bit different and I hope it is not a direct duplicate. Starting firefox after updating my 9.10 Ubuntu 64bit to 10.04RC results in the following error. LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /home/.../.mozilla/plugins/nppdf.so [/home/.../.mozilla/plugins/nppdf.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32] LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/nphelix.so [/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/nphelix.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32] Attempting to load the system libmoon Segmentation fault If i start a new firefox-profile, firefox will start but crash as soon as i click on a flash clip etc. as all my bookmarks, addons, passwords are stored in firefox it would be great to have it running again (even without flash). if this helps, opera and flash work without issues. thanks! ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - 10.04 RC 64bit: firfox does not start due to flash problems + 10.04 RC 64bit: firefox does not start due to flash problems -- 10.04 RC 64bit: firefox does not start due to flash problems https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568812 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 568813] [NEW] apt repeatedly switches media installing from dvds
Public bug reported: I have the Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Complete 10 DVD set. I installed it to the computer and added all of the DVDs, all the packages show up in Synaptic. However, when I install something that has dependencies on the other disks I am repeatedly asked to change the disk after every file. I reinstalled Ubuntu to a command line and added the DVDs with apt-cdrom add and tried to install packages with apt-get install, but get the same problem. So it seems to be an issue with apt. I previously had Debian 5 Lenny on 5 DVDs, when I installed packages it would fetch everything off DVD1 and then ask for DVD2 and fetch everything from that and so on. However, with Ubuntu it fetches something off DVD1 and then asks for DVD2 and fetches something off that and then it asks for DVD1 again and so on. Not only is this inefficient and time consuming, but its liable to wear out the DVD drives tray mechanism! I'm sure that it is meant to behave like Lenny did and not do this. I have searched the internet, but not found anything about this. I do not have broadband and I'm installing Ubuntu to a couple of old PCs, so using the online repositories is out of the question. Thanks for any help. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- apt repeatedly switches media installing from dvds https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568813 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 559839] Re: in 10.04,firefox is not stable
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
