[Bug 521492] Re: Dual Monitor wallpaper is not scaling across both monitors, same background is repeated on both monitors instead

2010-05-08 Thread Ioky
I think the "span" option is pretty pointless. unless you have the exact
resolution wallpaper as both of your screen you have. Or else you will
just have a random image in the middle of two monitors. forget about the
ideal solution, which is be able to set wallpaper in any variant. But at
least for me. Span should be "Span and Stretch" to fit across both of
the monitor. I mean a silly work around is use GIMP to resize the
wallpaper you want to put into the exact total screen solutions. Just
like the patch trying to do. but I have no idea how to patch at the
moment.

I am new here, but will it be fix?

[Bug 528557] Re: cannot turn on alarm for meeting received via email

2010-05-08 Thread Alexander Usyskin
If I understand this correctly, this is the same issue as upstream bug
#594153 "setting alarms on meetings owned by others is prevented".

There is patch attached to that bug. AFAIK the upstream will not update
2.28, they moved to 2.30. May be Ubuntu will be willing to apply that
patch to it's own packages?

[Bug 577703] Re: half of the doc left

2010-05-08 Thread Einar Schlereth
I try again with some more explanations. I spared the document yesterday
20.00 in doc-format. today at 8.00 only half of the doc appeared. It
happened yesterday too - the doc showed up exactly as today with only 3
pages but after a while - moving the mouse - it came up complete. and
today while writing the report the page disappeared several times when
touching the mouse and when I didn't touch anything.

[Bug 577706] [NEW] martion-modem daemon creates device file with wrong permissions

2010-05-08 Thread oryan_dunn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: martian-modem

The martian-modem daemon creates the /dev/pts/1 device with permissions
0620 and root:dialout. Adding users to dialout group to allow them to
use the modem does not work because the dialout group does not have read
access to the device. Attached are changes to the /etc/default/martian-
modem and /etc/init.d/martian-modem scripts.

[Bug 553081] Re: [lucid kvm-qemu]High cpu usage when moving mouse

2010-05-08 Thread lavinog
I am attempting to install Lubuntu, but I am getting the same behavior with the
live cd (there is no alt install yet).
The problem here is that clicking install causes the screen to flicker and the
installation dialog keeps moving down...I suspect this to be caused by this bug
since I have experienced similar issues when running ubuntu with kvm and
vmmouse active.

Worked perfectly. I spent the past week diving with Olympus loaner
cameras, and the driver worked fine with the older models that still
used xD media.

Thanks for the effort, Maxim! I know that xD is a dead format, but
there are still people using it, who will appreciate all of the work

[Bug 576811] Re: firefox is very slow in Ubuntu 10.10

2010-05-08 Thread Draycen DeCator
It could be the problem. If you want to test on a fresh Firefox profile,
this will let us know whether or not the problem is due to any add-ons
or settings. You do not need to delete your old profile to test, just
use the profile manager to create a new profile. If this helps, you
might want to try to disable all your extensions and re-enable them one
by one until you find the problematic one.

You can start the profile manager with the following command:
firefox -ProfileManager

[Bug 577286] Re: martian_modem does not provide kernel module martian_dev

2010-05-08 Thread oryan_dunn
When I posted this, I didn't realize that the package martian-modem-
source was not the source for the userspace program, but rather the
debian formated source for the martian_dev kernel module source. I'm
not sure how to mark this bug as invalid. However, it would be nice to
provide already compiled source to match the kernels as the kernels are
updated.

[Bug 229747] Re: "port is slow to respond" error freezes OS for seconds while reading HDs

2010-05-08 Thread daniele80
I confirm this bug
on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

The os randomly freezes for about 15 seconds.
I get rid of the freezes *only* when a cd-rom is mounted.
If I don't have a cd in the drive, the freezes come back.

Re: [Bug 577559] Re: X not available after kernel update (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS)

2010-05-08 Thread Brian McCullough
Hi, Sven:

It's difficult for me to tell. I installed the update through the Update
Manager as part of the normal recommended update process. Usually, when
Update Manager recommends a kernel update, the appropriate linux-headers
package is installed along with the kernel itself, so I wasn't sure
whether this was the same bug or not.

Thank you for your help!

[Bug 577507] Re: Lucid does not clear /tmp

2010-05-08 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi Dr.,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be
done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the
bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 542858] Re: starting file manager in a loop

2010-05-08 Thread kneos
New experience:
I have a dual boot (windows xp/Ubuntu, each running on its own HDD). After the
update, the xp system didn't start so:
1. I had to disconnect Ubuntu drive
2. use windows disk and run fixmbr and fixboot commands
3. reconnect Ubuntu's hdd
4. start windows
5. next day, when I wanted to check bug status, it seems the bug is gone.

[Bug 576811] Re: firefox is very slow in Ubuntu 10.10

2010-05-08 Thread AlmaTlust
It is page rendering which takes much longer than in other browsers and longer

I added a few plugins like flashblock, all-in-one-sidebar etc., but had the
same in 9.10 as well.
Is there a way to get a clean copy of firefox running, so I could look whether
it is the baggage from my old home folder? Or do you think that's not the
problem?

[Bug 577700] [NEW] Unable to add more than 2 WLANs "normally"

2010-05-08 Thread Evil Genius
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager-kde

I have joined two wireless networks without problems and saved their
profiles. Now I want to join a third one, but everytime I click on the
SSID, the "add network connection" windows opens but instead of showing
SSID and other data of the network I want to join it shows the data of
one of the already existing profiles (mostly the last one entered). If I
change now the displayed values to the one matching the current wireless
network and click "ok", the already existing entry which data was
displayed is overwritten.

The menu entry "Connect to other wlan" (or similar) shows the same
behavior.

To have more than two profiles I had to open the management list of networks
and add one manually.
Sorry that I can not provide the original names of the windows, I use a german
version so I guess it may not be very helpful.

The bug appears with the "original" 10.04 as well as with kde 4.4.3
packages installes from the kubuntu-ppa.

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
great.

[Bug 562843] Re: [Lucid] [drm:rs400_gart_adjust_size] *ERROR* Forcing to 32M GART size (because of ASIC bug ?)

2010-05-08 Thread Dixon Dick
Further information. My Dell 131L has 1GB RAM, and I was able to
successfully use the "radeon.modeset=0" fix in grub.cfg. Specifically:

- go to /boot/grub/grub.cfg
- make a copy of this file somewhere safe in case you mess up your edit!
- find the line with your preferred kernel, it probably has the word "quiet" in
the options
- add "radeon.modeset=0" to the list of options (I added mine right after
"quiet")
- save your grub.cfg

That's it. When you boot next, the Radeon will not try to change to a
higher resolution mode. Thus your terminal (if you are doing this on
"Lucid Server") will have big fat characters instead of nice clean
smaller ones. Oh well.

As a bonus, I added "splash" to my list of kernel options to prove to
myself I was using a machine with this update during boot (I am working
on several machines at once).

For some weird reason, of 3 Dell 131L laptops of exactly the same spec
and BIOS and with this exact same software installation, only one of
them fails every time to boot. Nevertheless, I put this fix in all of
them.

[Bug 284750] Re: License change, time to package it up

2010-05-08 Thread Andrew Fenn
Just an update. The latest version of the nvidia cg toolkit now comes
with the following license (attached)

Notes of interest are:

- "Rights and Limitations of Grant. NVIDIA hereby grants Customer the
following non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, non-transferable right
to use the SOFTWARE, with the following limitations:"

- "Rights. Customer may use, reproduce, distribute, publicly display and
publicly perform the SOFTWARE."

- "No Modification. The SOFTWARE may be redistributed providing that
distributed Cg compiler and runtime binaries are unmodified, except for
decompression and compression."

I believe this should be satisfactory enough for it to be able to enter
Debian non-free and propagate its way into Ubuntu.

This bug doesn't just affect people using ports platforms. I'm using
the i386 2.6.32-305-ec2 kernel in a Xen VM, and I ran in to this as
well. I have a script that can be added to the initrd as a workaround,
but I haven't actually tested it yet. Once I do so (hopefully tomorrow
sometime) I'll post it for other people to use.

[Bug 577693] [NEW] squid restart fails

2010-05-08 Thread Henry Wertz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: squid

Any method of restarting squid fails to restart it. Such as:

u...@scrap:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/squid restart
[sudo] password for user:
Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
utility, e.g. service squid restart

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
Upstart job, you may also use the restart(8) utility, e.g. restart squid
restart: Job failed to restart
=
u...@scrap:~$ sudo service squid restart
[sudo] password for user:
restart: Job failed to restart

===
u...@scrap:~$ sudo restart squid
restart: Job failed to restart
==

After a while, a "start" using any of these methods works fine.
I'm assuming the root problem is that squid takes considerable time to
shut down; in the previous init system, "/etc/init.d/squid stop" would not
return until squid had exited. The new behavior of returning immediately is
quite desirable in the effort to speed suspend and shutdown times, but I think
"restart" is still just implemented by "stop" immediately followed by a
"start". If the current "stop" behavior is retained, I would guess "restart",
instead of being "stop" then "start", will have to have a check for pid exit
placed into it. squid shutdowns are on the order of 10s of seconds so if this
involves polling I would check every second at the most.

Find attached my squid.conf, in case there's some configuration
workaround...
