[Bug 578773] Re: dhclient waits a random 0-4 seconds before trying to acquire a lease
Looks like I jumped the gun on this... This originally came from a relatively new Red Hat bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=587070 So, I have mud on may face... the version of dhcp3_client in Lucid is: 3.1.3-2ubuntu3. The version in the Red Hat bug isn't specified, but it appears to be older, as the attached patch doesn't apply cleanly. The code in our version has been heavily re-factored. It appears that there still is a fixed initial delay ( 3 seconds? ), however I need to do some more work to confirm this. ** Bug watch added: Red Hat Bugzilla #587070 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=587070 -- dhclient waits a random 0-4 seconds before trying to acquire a lease https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/578773 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dhcp3 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 292588] Re: VirtualBox can't operate in VMX root mode.
(not tested) If you want to use VirtualBox as your default VT solution and if you don't want to uninstall kvm, try to not load the kvm modules at startup by adding a new file in /etc/modprobe.d/kvm-blacklist, containing these directives: blacklist kvm blacklist kvm_intel That should work after the next reboot. After that, in case you need to run KVM just for one time, you need to load the kvm modules thanks to modprobe kvm modprobe kvm_intel before lauching your KVM machine. What is the best behavior for the installation of the package in order to have VBox running out of the box? I don't know. For example, exim is removed when you install postfix (Conflicts: mail-transport-agent), but we can maybe imagine a thing like an update-alternative machanism (?) -- VirtualBox can't operate in VMX root mode. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/292588 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Those problems do not appear when running rt-kernel on Karmic in that same computer, i.e. problem not kernel-only related but other things in Lucid --- sorry I'm not able to point more exactly. -- Displayn detection fails in Lucid - laptop + Nvidia 7000 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575605 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

hey all~ wow oh wowi'm glad to know i'm not alone in this issue. like most everyone here, i have a broadcom wireless chip in my hp pavillion tx2510us laptop. i CAN connected to the internet (and my thruput seems fairly good to me) but half the time the network manager applet doesn't even load and the other half of the time, it says that i have no wireless connection [no wireless card yet im online lol] i have a fully updated 64 bit edition of ubuntu 10.04. this is more an annoyance in my book but if there's a fix i'd love to know ~j -- [Lucid] Network Manager Applet Wi-Fi icon always shows red exclamation mark https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/539300 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 578585] Re: Ubuntu Unity keeps reloading on my system ...
This affects me too, if by the reloading Jorge means that the top and right panels are stuck in an endless loop of disappearing and reappearing. Doesn't respond to mouse clicks either; no other way to exit than to switch to another VT and killall gnome-session. [Bug 574449] Re: random flickers on ubuntu lucid desktop
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Ubuntu release: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Edition: Desktop Architecture: i386 Expected behaviour: Steady desktop with no flickering during entire session. Actual behaviour: - On the platform mentioned above, I experience random flickers on the desktop. The flickering does not occur frequently (time interval of several minutes or sometimes hours between two consecutive occurrences). The flickering has not caused any problems till now apart from the visual interference and it occurs at any time, not just when any particular windowed application is running. I could not find any means of forcing a flicker to reproduce the problem manually and since a flicker lasts only for a fraction of a second and is random, I cannot get a screenshot. From what glimpses I have been able to catch on one or two occasions, the flickers actually appear to be highly distorted snapshots of parts of currently or previously open windows stretching across the whole desktop for a fraction of a second and a few pixels high. However, because of the instantaneous disappearance, I am not sure that they are actually ghosts of windows. Sometimes it is so quick that all I can see is a line or a bar. Also, because of the nature of the problem, I cannot determine its source. It might be xorg, kernel (maybe KMS), GNOME, Metacity, Compiz, Nautilus or something else altogether. My hardware and relevant software specifications are provided below. I am booting with KMS enabled. Notes: - 1. Searching the bug database, I only found bug #493707 somewhat similar but the two do not appear to be the same and there are no blue dots in my case. 2. I have come back to Ubuntu with GNOME after skipping version 9.10 so I do not know whether this problem exists in 9.10. 3. I have applied all updates that were available in lucid-security and lucid-updates in Software Sources, Updates. Computer: Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 @ 2.0 GHz. [Bug 520118] Re: thunar select freezes after using mouse to select folders (detailed view mode)
Thanks for the info about pcmanfm2. Yes the version that is included in the xubuntu repositories still has the same bug, you need to compile a new version from source. http://pcmanfm.sourceforge.net/ I managed to fix this problem by getting a copy of the source via git at the project URL. I'm using version 0.9.5 and it does not have the problem. This seems like a reasonable replacement for thunar. -- thunar select freezes after using mouse to select folders (detailed view mode) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/520118 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 578654] [NEW] Firefox mixes up multiple profiles and logins
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox I have two machines, a stationary (Ubuntu 9.10, Firefox 3.5.9) and a laptop (Ubuntu 10.04, Firefox 3.6.3). On both machines, I'm logged into the same account which has the same home directory mounted via NFS to both machines. I open firefox on the stationary machine, and it works fine. I try to open firefox on the laptop and it fails, giving a bogus message about firefox already running and suggesting I kill it or reboot. This is confusing to the user since firefox is *not* running on that machine. Apparently, firefox fails to be a well-behaved unix program able to handle a multi-login environment to the same account. Though I am aware of the importance of fixing bug #1, I don't think that should mean that Ubuntu should adopt the weaknesses of windows, making it a single-user system. Due to the above failure, I open a terminal on the laptop and run firefox -ProfileManager and create new profile. Using this profile, I can start firefox. I close firefox on the stationary machine and restart it. It now gives the same complaint as the laptop did before, even though the laptop has started firefox with a different profile. I suspect that -ProfileManager on the laptop may have not only created a profile and used it for that session, but also changed the default (but I don't know how to verify what profile I'm actually trying to run). I close firefox on the laptop. I start firefox on the stationary again, which now works. However, at this point, the laptop firefox has screwed with my stationary firefox settings, so the firefox that actually starts on the stationary has the tabs and window sizes of the laptop firefox, not what was saved on the stationary, as it should have. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Firefox mixes up multiple profiles and logins https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/578654 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
