[Bug 188976] Re: ubiquity crashed with OSError in copy_all()

2010-05-13 Thread Chelmite
I had /usr/local symlinked to /local/usr/local (on a different disk from /).
I guess the installer had trouble because / is mounted as /target, and there is
no /local.

[Bug 204202] Re: gnome-terminal ignores current keyboard layout for ctrl+key shortcuts

2010-05-13 Thread Hugo Buddel
Doug Kelly: I tried your solution, but it does not seem to work for me
on my fresh Lucid install.

Just tried something else: First layout indian, second Qwerty and then
started a ping from the second layout. I could not figure out how to
quit the ping (except 'killall ping'), since all my ctrl-c keystrokes
printed indian characters. That cannot be useful under any circumstances
it seems to me.

There are bug reports about this problem existing for other gtk apps as
well, but I have not been able to reproduce the problem anywhere else
besides gnome-terminal. Anyone knows another app?

E.g. similar, more general bug report:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=599894
And a later report that the fix for the above causes the symptons we see:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=602137
It is not clear to me whether this is indeed the same issue or just the same
symptoms.

I cannot imagine that this is the intended behavior, for one because now
it is different between gnome-terminal and xterm. But if it is, it
should be more clearly documented. It is not intuitive that if you add a
new layout that whether the ctrl- key mappings change depends on the
order of the layouts.

[Bug 367115] Re: No funciona el monitor externo (ctrl+F2) con proyectores.

2010-05-13 Thread Dr. Kenobi
lean-mini, el reporte debe estar en Ingles para que mas personas te
puedan ayudar.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and
your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a
lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.04). If you
can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload
updated logs by running apport-collect , and any other logs that are
relevant for this particular issue.

virtuoso runs with nice 0 and the cpu is pretty busy for a long time,
even if "no" or only a few changes have been made to the filesystem.

In earlier versions I have killed and removed these local searchengines,
but now I am f*cked because akonadi won't start if virtuoso is not
there...

Why is this resource hungry stuff not optional or at least possible to
deactivate? (Without loosing access to your addressbooks...)

[Bug 345226] Re: after resume, sshfs mounted dir can't be remounted immediately

2010-05-13 Thread swmike
I am now at 10.04 and the problem persists.

swm...@swm-laptop:~$ apport-collect 345226
The authorization page:

should be opening in your browser. After you have authorized
this program to access Launchpad on your behalf you should come
back here and press to finish the authentication process.

Package sshfs-fuse not installed and no hook available, ignoring
swm...@swm-laptop:~$ sudo dpkg --list | grep sshfs
[sudo] password for swmike:
ii sshfs 2.2-1build1
filesystem client based on SSH File Transfer

But basically what's happening is that the tcp session sshfs is running over
has stalled after resuming suspend. I believe just as an IPv4 address is
flushed after suspend, all active TCP sessions depending on that tcp session
needs to be flushed as well. I am sshfs:ing from a 10.04 server as well, and
the weird thing is that I can't find any TCP/22 corresponding to sshfs on
either server or client, the only thing I can find is a unix socket:

swm...@swm-laptop:~$ netstat -anp | grep sshfs
unix 2 [ ] STREAM CONNECTED 889086 2201/sshfs

swm...@swm-laptop:~$ ps auxw | grep sshfs
swmike2201 0.0 0.0 44916 1240 ?Ssl May13 0:00 sshfs ub6: ub

I'm doing this over IPv6 btw. After killing sshfs and re-establishing
the sshfs session I now see a TCP/22 session belonging to ssh process,
so I guess sshfs talks to ssh via a stream socket.

[Bug 516684] Re: After upgrade from Karmic boot fails, mountall and udevd fail

2010-05-13 Thread Steven Ellis
Ive hit the same issue upgrading an Ubuntu 8.04 Xen VM to Lucid 10.04.

The host is running Centos 5.3 and I have a mix of Centos, Debian and
Ubuntu VMs. The Debian VMs upgraded to Lenny without incident but It
appears I can't run a paravirt Lucid VM on top of Centos.

If I try to boot with a Lucid kernel (2.6.24-21-xen) I get

libudev: udev_monitor_new_from_netlink: error getting socket: Invalid argument

There appears to be one or more degraded LVM volumes, and your root device may
depend on the LVM volumes being online. One or more of the following LVM volumes
are degraded:
read_urandom: /dev/urandom: open failed: No such file or directory
Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems:
 - Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
   - Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
   - Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?)
 - Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
chvt: can't open console
ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/87fea4c2-db1f-4743-bab0-da95e5c8e594 does not exist.
Dropping to a shell!

Anyone had better luck.

[Bug 554514] Re: cant find resource agents

2010-05-13 Thread Peter
Just to add to what has already been said - I have this same problem. I am
using akonadi to link to a google calender and addressbook but not to my
standard kde address book and calendar (I was but stopped because of the
problems I was having every time I started up my computer).
I can confirm that if I stop anything and everything related to Kontact, stop
Akonadi, start Akonadi, start Koantact all works as expected. But if I let
things happen as normal Akonadi complains of no resource agents.
If I stop Kontact and Akonadi and then start Kontact I get the error as well
(which I how I generated the selftest attached)

[Bug 580308] Re: upgrade to lucid

2010-05-13 Thread Monkey
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a
bug in update-manager.
(With many applications, you can report a future bug directly on the
appropriate package by opening the application's "Help" menu and choosing
"Report a Problem". https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs)

[Bug 580338] [NEW] No sound from headphone jack but build-in speakers work properly in ASUS K42jr

2010-05-13 Thread DONG Hao
Public bug reported:

There is no sound output from the headphone jack on my brand new asus
K42jr, whether the alsa output is set to "analog output" or
"speakers".(there' s no "headphone" option in alsamixer) Built-in
speakers seem to work properly and the speakers are muted normally when
a headphone is plugged in. The asus laptop has just one headphone jack
plot, and the build-in mic works just well. The sound system works all
right under windows 7.

Tested:
I have checked the alsamixer to make sure nothing is muted.
I have tested compiling the latest alsa driver(1.0.23 for now) but the problem
remained.
I even changed /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, added "options snd-hda-intel
model=model"(I tried every model alsa supported, as listed below) to the last
line. But that didn't seem to help either.

[Bug 129149] Re: [TILP2] Failed to open Usb device.

2010-05-13 Thread debrouxl
Yeah, running TILP II as root makes the problem go away, but I don't advise it
either.
Follow the instructions given in
http://svn.tilp.info/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/libticables/trunk/CONFIG?view=markup
(which needs root access once) and then you'll be able to run TILP without root
access.

[Bug 519930] Re: landscape-sysinfo very slow when remote mounts are unavailable

2010-05-13 Thread pedemoz
Same problem with much the same setup (9.10 amd64). SSH login was
taking exactly 60 seconds. Some apps that rely on ssh (FreeNX for
example) were failing due to timeouts. Verbose output of an ssh login
showed that it was pausing for 60 seconds after "Entering interactive
session".

The problem for me was the same as for Andrew (the OP) - an smb/cifs
mount was unavailable. (I could never determine why ssh login was fast
from Windows using Putty - surely Linux ssh couldn't be slower than
Windows... But the smb share from the server was to the Windows box I
was testing from and thus always available when testing.)

The solution, again the same as for Andrew and as described on his
website, was to modify the Message Of The Day (MOTD) script so that it
ignores smb/cifs mounts. Simply add the following to
"/usr/share/pyshared/landscape/lib/disk.py" (after "except ValueError:
continue:")...

   if filesystem == "cifs":
continue

There are numerous forum reports about slow ssh login - I wonder how
many are due to the same problem?

P.

[Bug 487604] Re: Ctrl- key mappings broken for anything but first keyboard layout in GTK applications

I recalled the problem has existed in more applications, but maybe I was
mistaken. At the moment in Lucid I can only reproduce it in gnome-

is inconsistent with the OP, but consistent with the 'misfiled bug'
linked here.) What other applications suffer from this bug?

2010-05-13 Thread Markhor
I experience the same error on Xubuntu 10.04 x86, Acer Aspire One D250.
When I try to launch tvtime, it shows the main window for a moment and then
closes.
After that, dmesg|tail shows

tvtime[12203]: segfault at 6b0 ip 0804d824 sp bfaa584c error 4 in

[Bug 236046] Re: checkgmail tray background colour cannot be changed

I am not sure about what Mr. Ball says;
WiCD isn't affected by the problem, nor is piding, nor is fusion
iconFurther with the theme above, it does not even seem to be following my
Colors Windows:Background button; for me that is marekd out because my theme
(the one above) does not allow for changes in these colors.

[Bug 569667] Re: Error communicating with gnome-keyring-daemon

2010-05-13 Thread aviramof
The user is not password-less the user have a password i only chosed
auto login during the install process via ubiquity and the it something
that you can also change via login screen option in system-
administrative or preference i don't remember right now but the problem
for me at least don't exist until i try to disable the need for password
if i log off and then log on in "Users and Groups" and no it has nothing
to do with upgrade because i never upgraded from any version to 10.04 i
always installed clean 10.04 cd version or dvd version.

In any case in the mean time i don't use any linux version i'm waiting
for 10.04.1 before i try it again.

[Bug 580333] [NEW] tomboy notes disappeared

2010-05-13 Thread Andy Hird
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomboy

an...@dylan:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

an...@dylan:~$ aptitude show tomboy
Package: tomboy
State: installed
Automatically installed: no
Version: 1.2.1-0ubuntu1

Hi. I recently upgraded to Lucid beta on my laptop from karmic. Things
seemed ok. Today I noticed that all but two (which may be new) of my
tomboy notes have disappeared. There's still a stack in .tomboy but only
two in .local/share/tomboy. This makes me very sad :-(

I suspect that tomboy may not be the culprit, and the culprit may be
ubuntu-one which I've struggled to get going (without much success).

I doubt there's anything you can do to help me (unless there's a super
secret place where tomboy notes are copied to) but I felt I should file
an issue just incase there's something you can do for others.

Possibly related after upgrade/ubuntu one usage all of my podcasts
disappeared from rhythmbox and I had to resubscribe. No idea if the two
things are related.

I've been using Ubuntu since warty days and this is the first time an
upgrade has resulted in data loss!

Thanks Andy Hird

[Bug 564459] Re: USB devices not detected when hotplugged

2010-05-13 Thread Thespian
Adding one more note. The other fixes mentioned in other threads also
didn't work for me. Including them here in case this symptom has
multiple causes, and they may be of use to others watching this bug.

One was to disable floppy controller in bios (done, no effect) and the
other was to have only "hal" and "pmount" packages installed, and _not_
"usbmount" (supposedly 'usbmount' was causing some sort of conflict).
I had only "hal" installed, so tried adding "pmount" and still no luck.

I'm not even seeing the device show up under /dev when I plug the book
in, so can't see an easy way to mount it at all. Going to try one more
reboot, this time with the USB device plugged in before booting (cold
boot) which some other reports seem to say still works. If that does,
at least I'll have a way to get to my data.

[Bug 569667] Re: Error communicating with gnome-keyring-daemon

2010-05-13 Thread Erik Meitner
This problem is related to a user being password-less(as set in "Users
and Groups"). On a newly installed 10.04 system I had to disable
password-less mode to get Seahorse to be able to connect to the gnome-
keyring-daemon.

@Michal: "gnome-keyring-daemon --start --components=pkcs11" is the
default for 10.04 so I think this is not related to an upgrade.

[Bug 580326] [NEW] Lucid HPLIP 3.10.2 Photosmart C5500 PPD file maximum resolution was mistakenly downgraded to 600 dpi

2010-05-13 Thread MMarking
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hplip

I just upgraded a Karmic box to Lucid and use always use HPLIP from the
official repos.

When testing my Photosmart C5580 printer I noticed that the printer test
page said "600x600 dpi" resolution, it used to say "1200x1200 dpi" for
the past year and a half since HPLIP 2.8.7! Then I looked in the
printing dialog boxes (including hp-systray settings) and noticed that
the maximum dpi settings were reduced to 600 dpi, they used to be 1200
dpi.

I pulled the PPD file out of Karmic's "hpijs-
ppds_3.9.8-1ubuntu2_all.deb" package and compared it with the Lucid
version installed at /etc/cups/ppd/Photosmart_C5500.ppd and noticed that
all of the 1200 dpi entries were changed to 600 dpi including the
"Params=Quality:Quality=" line and the "-r" parameters.

I changed back everything that was regressed to 600 dpi res and quality
and performed visual tests and the problem appears to be fixed. I'm
going to attach the original PPD and my fixed version.

[Bug 580327] [NEW] Wrong keyboard layout is set after login

However, for my user I want to have two layouts, "USA Dvorak" and "RU".
The problem is that after login I have three layouts, "USA Dvorak", "RU"
and "USA".

Steps to reproduce:

1) Configure two layouts via the applet (or set gconf
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd/layouts manually to "[us dvorak, ru]").
2) Restart gnome-settings-daemon
3) Now you have three layouts in applet (and in gconf
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd/layouts)

What I expect is that option from the gconf is never overwritten without
my permission and always takes precedence over default settings.

That maybe similar to #460328, but I am not sure.

I have latest Ubuntu Lucid (10.04).

[Bug 374458] Re: Random Logitech Wireless Mouse Freeze (Kubuntu 9.04)

2010-05-13 Thread Jon Ogilvie
I'm just throwing in that I have this issue on Lucid and have had it
since Intrepid(!) or maybe it was Jaunty... it's been so long... I have
a USB and PS/2 keyboard plugged in simultaneously, and occasionally the
USB one will freeze, while I still have access to the PS/2 one. My USB
mouse freezes much more often, and most often the keyboard--which is
plugged into the same USB port, as I'm using a KVM switch--continues to
operate.

I'm running Ubuntu Karmic, 2.6.32-22-server x64.
nvidia-current 195.36.15-0ubuntu3,
xserver-common 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7,
xserver-xorg 1:7.5+5ubuntu1,
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7,
xserver-xorg-input-all 1:7.5+5ubuntu1,
xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.3.2-5ubuntu1,
xserver-xorg-input-mouse 1:1.5.0-1.

Hardware:
Phenom x4 9500,
8GB DDR2,
XFX GeForce 8300 motherboard,
GeForce 9800GTX graphics,
USB mouse (Microsoft),
USB keyboard,
PS/2 keyboard,
Several external USB card readers (empty) and an external USB hard drive,
USB KVM through which keyboard and mouse are plugged in,
USB attached to my UPS

Forums have suggested everything from disabling legacy USB support in
BIOS (tried it, didn't work) to disabling compiz (tried it, and it made
the freezes much less frequent until upgrade to Lucid) to disabling
mythtv(!) which also didn't work.

2010-05-13 Thread Charlie Kravetz
We'd like to figure out what's causing this bug for you, but we haven't
heard back from you in a while. Could you please provide the requested
information?

The final release of Lucid Lynx is Mythbuntu 10.04, which released on
2010-04-29. If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would
appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect
376489 .

Thanks!
