[Bug 283531] Re: Only part of the window is displayed in cheese after saving photos or video

2010-06-06 Thread Vish
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

[Bug 522106] Re: libunwind ftbfs on amd64 and i386

2010-06-06 Thread Stephan Hermann
@Steve:

Ok, this was the "official" patch by upstream.
The other solution will be to not build libunwind-setjmp.so from source...which
was proposed by fedora (see first comment of me)

[Bug 572012] Re: package blcr-dkms 0.8.2-10 failed to install/upgrade: blcr kernel module failed to build

2010-06-06 Thread Ondrej Sipr
You may be right; the description of the package linux-image-2.6.32.22-generic
(x86_64) which I have installed states that this package "also includes the
corresponding System.map file", yet there is not such file on my computer (and
the above described bug also affects me).
So the issue might in fact be with the linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic package
(2.6.32-22.35, x86/x86_64).
BTW: This bug seems to be duplicated - there is a whole family of bugs 534175,
502261, 586875 , 572012, 583755, 590092 concerning probably the same issue.

Manoj, thanks for the link. Unfortunately the patch didn't apply to the
current linux-2.6 tree because one hunk failed, I guess it depends on
other patches. Is there a git tree available which contains the patch in
question? I would like to test the patch on my laptop.

[Bug 562843] Re: [Lucid] [drm:rs400_gart_adjust_size] *ERROR* Forcing to 32M GART size (because of ASIC bug ?)

2010-06-06 Thread Mitchell McKenna
+1 to Dixon, thank you for the quick-fix.
I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1501 with ATI Xpress 1150.

What a nightmare, didn't even know what to search for with this one,
"Ubuntu 10.04 boot videocard crash colored lines" finally got me to this
thread. I couldn't even get the boot options up before the crash, tried
the usual "esc", "ctrl+alt+F1", etc, didn't know you had to hold down
Shift now.

Hope we can get a proper fix pushed out soon; yes, one of us can hunt
down this thread and figure out what changes to make, but someone new to
the amazing world of Ubuntu probably wouldn't and we don't want their
first experience to be like this.

Re: [Bug 497219] Re: Playing audio cd - Rhythmbox seems to jump tracks - occassional put-put sound.

2010-06-06 Thread George A
Hello Kamus:
Thank you for your inquiry. Recently I deleted 9.04 and made a "clean
installation" of Lucid 10.04 ( I'm trying to become familiar with Lucid, and
to get Totem to play DVD's) . My PC and hardware are unchanged . When
playing an audio CD ( using Rhythmbox) the sound "skips / jumps"
occasionally. I also have a "clean install" of 8.04 on a separate
removable HDD. What is interesting is that when I play the same CD (via
Rhythmbox) using 8.04, the sound is OK and does not "skip" or distort !

I hope this is the info you wanted. Regards, George A

[Bug 517925] Re: The help files won't print

2010-06-06 Thread Nate Derby
Hello Mitch and Charlie,

Thanks for your work on this. However, now I've just installed Lucid
and am very frustrated to see that this issue is still not fixed -- at
least on my installation. In fact, it's worse, as neither the
workaround above nor the print preview work. Can you replicate this in
Lucid?

However, something really irregular happened -- I was able to print one
help page, but then the print function stopped working after that first
page. My workaround is to cut and paste into another text editor, but
that's a pain because I lose the formatting (i.e., the table
indentations).

Incidentally, is there a reason why the help files aren't on HTML, so
that they can be printed from any HTML browser? Or is this a GNOME
issue that you have no control over?

Thanks so much for your help. I'm still very new to Ubuntu and am
reading (and printing) the help files to learn how to use it better.

Thanks so much,

NATE

[Bug 544962] Re: show desktop icon has white bar on its right side

2010-06-06 Thread Shadow Mage
So, it seems that actually, even if I don't run "killall gnome-panel",
the white bar tends to eventually go away. Maybe the chance of the white
bar appearing (or not appearing) happens every time the panel changes? I
wonder if the white bar can randomly appear after the panel being drawn
without it, just by causing the panel to redraw enough times?

[Bug 590634] [NEW] please use tinyproxy specific user and group

2010-06-06 Thread Seth Arnold
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: tinyproxy

Tinyproxy's default configuration is to user nobody:nogroup.

This is a bad idea if other applications are configured to use nobody or
nogroup -- I've filed bugs for other applications about this, so I'm
sure it happens -- because unrelated applications can signal each other
or use up each other's disk quotas or read shared memory segments.

Further, the user 'nobody' exists so NFS servers and other networked
file systems have a user they can use for their filesystem tests -- if
there are files owned by the user 'nobody', this can grant unexpected
access to users via a technique intended to squash all special
privileges.

[Bug 496093] Re: [lucid] rt2860 frequently fails to connect to mixed mode WPA/WPA2 secured wireless networks

2010-06-06 Thread PhilGil
Has everyone who is reporting their wireless fixed rebooted more than
once? After Chase's kernel failed to fix my wireless issues I decided
to try kernel 2.6.33.5-lucid from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v2.6.33.5-lucid/ (which has been reported to work). I was
able to log in to my network on the first boot after installing the new
kernel, but the wireless log in problem reappeared on subsequent boots.
So far, the only solution that has worked for me on every boot is
Ricardo's kernel.

dbconfig-common (1.8.45) unstable; urgency=low

  * Change behavior for automated installs when no local database is
available (Closes: #542381)
  * Make sure the admin always sees the "purge database?" question
- thanks to Brett Profitt (Closes: #525371).
  * Remove original fix for #542381, as the second fix is better.
  * Bump debhelper compatibility level to 5
  * Update lintian overrides
  * Update Standards-Version to 3.8.4 (no changes needed)
  * Use the upgrade prompt for migrating from non-dbc versions.
(Closes: #569139)

Binary package hint: telepathy-mission-control-5

For the last couple of days I've noticed the mission-control-5 process

[Bug 587830] Re: While playing any song in rythmbox, status bar not respond!

2010-06-06 Thread Vishal Telangre
Hush, problem resolved!

The problem might been caused because of "gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly" package,
I and Pedro Villavicencio think so...
Just reinstall this package if anyone else getting such a similar problem!

Many Thanks to Pedro Villavicencio and Pedro Villavicencio for helping
out to resolve this problem...

[Bug 496093] Re: [lucid] rt2860 frequently fails to connect to mixed mode WPA/WPA2 secured wireless networks

2010-06-06 Thread Walter_Wittel
I kept a partition with lucid hoping this would get fixed but just wiped
it and installed maverick Alpha 1 + all updated (through tonight)
bringing it to kernel 2.6.34-5. Sadly I still can't connect with either
of the WPA2 wireless access points I commonly use.

Does anyone know what (if anything) is different WRT the RT2860 driver
in maverick vs. the backports? Seems that the newer kernels (at least in
maverick) do not solve my problem.

BTW, both APs work just fine with karmic on the same hardware (eeepc
901).

[Bug 575982] Re: X crashes screen goes between blank and black and white straps. display

2010-06-06 Thread Sulav
ok i am a bit new to ubuntu so i was stuck. It seems in order to kill the
screen saver you have to issue
sudo killall gnome-screensaver
again after doing
sudo chmod -x /usr/bin/gnome-screensaver

so this seems to be the temporary workaround for now.

[Bug 587935] Re: Dell inspiron screen flicker after upgrade to ubuntu 10.04

2010-06-06 Thread rcorlett
Same here, with a brand new Asus UL30VT-A1. Issue does NOT appear in Windows 7.
Running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit. Full desktop install, dual boot with grub.

Bug: A considerable number of lines appears for an instant in the lower
1/3 to 1/2 of the screen. Very short burst. Looks different each time.
Possibly only black lines but sometimes I'm sure I see colored lines
mixed in. It's annoying and is sure to detract novice users.

GPU: Switchable GEFORCE G210M / Intel GMA 4500MHD. I usually have the
Geforce powered down.

[Bug 590611] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon crashes on login

2010-06-06 Thread Funto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

Sometimes, when logging in (maybe 1 out of 3 or 1 out of 2 times), the
gnome-settings-daemon crashes (nothing is visible when doing "ps -A | grep
gnome-settings").
The system falls back to the original GTK+ theme instead of my Ubuntu Studio
theme.

I am using the NVIDIA drivers 195.36.07.04 (which are experimental, not
supported by Ubuntu, I need OpenGL 3.3 support).

The theme goes back to normal when I launch "gnome-settings-daemon" or when I
try to change the appearance of the desktop.
Nautilus needs to be killed with "nautilus -q" because the theme is not loaded
for it, and then it restarts automatically.

This bug appeared after the upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04.

Hey friend,

one thing we have in common is the processor, I also have a

AMD Phenom II X4 945

Could that be our common element?

[Bug 77675] Re: [regression] apache2-ssl-certificate has gone missing since feisty

2010-06-06 Thread gl1176
The way to do this has changed. The procedure is still simple for a self
signed ssl cert.

The following is the correct way:

apt-get install apache2
a2enmod ssl
a2ensite default-ssl
make-ssl-cert generate-default-snakeoil
/etc/init.d/apache2 restart

You can find this in the follow doc under SSL:
/usr/share/doc/apache2.2-common/README.Debian.gz

[Bug 496093] Re: [lucid] rt2860 frequently fails to connect to mixed mode WPA/WPA2 secured wireless networks

2010-06-06 Thread Ricardo Salveti
@Chase Douglas: tested your package, with the backported driver from
2.6.34 and it seems to be working fine. This fix is included in upstream
since 2.6.33, that's the version with the updated driver.

My hardware is an EeePC 1000HE, with following description and code:
01:00.0 Network controller [0280]: RaLink RT2860 [1814:0781]
Subsystem: RaLink Device [1814:2790]

@Wolfgang Kufner: do you know if the ad hoc use case worked with a
previous kernel, like 2.6.32 and/or 2.6.33?

[Bug 590599] [NEW] Webpage opens in wrong spot in Amazon

2010-06-06 Thread Jamie Dimmel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

On opening a link to a book on www.amazon.com (such as
"http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0425235238/ref=s9_newr_gw_ir04?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-4&pf_rd_r=10Z98DRBG3S623SDGXT4&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470939031&pf_rd_i=507846";
for example) the page opens to the section titled "Tags Customers
Associate with This Product" which apparently is a part of the page that
is loaded last. In the same token this page itself (to fill out the bug
report) opened in the are below this box towards the end.

It's like Firefox doesn't know how to open pages before. I know this did
not occur with the latest Firefox from Ubuntu 9.04 (which is what I was
using until last week).

if you want to reproduce go to the page listed above, right-click one of
the books listed under "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" and
open in new tab. You will see it does not open at the top of the page as
expected.

Thank you,
Jamie Dimmel
