[Bug 592845] [NEW] Gimp crashes during Save As if files in the current folder change
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gimp Steps to reproduce: 1. Open an image in Gimp. 2. Select Save As. The image I was trying to export was located in /tmp and files are created and destroyed in /tmp all the time. The changing file list seems to cause Gimp to crash at this point. Re: [Bug 566149] Re: Lucid: No USB after resume on Thinkpad X201, T410, T410s, T510, W510
I kind of doubt it, but I'll defer to those who are more directly involved in the patch. From what I can tell, this mostly deals with re-initializing USB when coming back from suspend only. Here's a copy of the commit message: If the firmware puts a device back into D0 state at resume time, we'll update its state in resume_noirq and thus skip the platform resume code. Calling that code twice should be safe and we ought to avoid getting to that point anyway, so remove the check and also allow the platform pci code to be called for D0. Fixes USB not being powered after resume on recent Lenovo machines. [Bug 592837] [NEW] bug filing difficulties annoyance
Public bug reported: Instead of thanking users for filing a bug, and making the submission as easy as possible (a captcha should be enough), Ubuntu creates hurdles unheard of in any other project: 1) Need to create a full-fledged support account on launchpad, with a (!) 8-character password with numeric and uppercase letters. Why would anyone in their right mind create and remember such a strong password just for filing a bug ? Or do you expect users to not create a new password but instead reuse an old one ? What would the purpose be other than harvesting user's passwords that can be reused in other services ? So, this is not only a big annoyance but also a security problem for anyone intending to file a bug. 2) Requiring an email check for filing a bug This is a BUG REPORT. If the user wrote a wrong email - that's probably because he doesn't want to give you the right one, and doesn't want to hear anything about whether you succeed in fixing the bug or not. For what purpose are you collecting user's emails ? 3) Instead of allowing a bugreport, you OBLIGE user (actual automatic redirect to off-site page) to read a long bug-report guide document, written without any structure by someone that probably didn't understand that his text would be used for this purpose. What percentage of bug- reporters really read that document? Did you measure how much time it takes to read? How about moving the hurdles of bug report sorting from the USER to the COMPANY. The USER is making you a FAVOR by reporting the bug. Let him feel that you appreciate that. 4) Searching before filing. How about doing the search offline AFTER bug filing and then contacting the user about it? And if he doesn't leave a valid email - than he probably doesn't care. Why would a user want to search for anything before filing? Do you want the bug report or not ? Why make it so hard to file it ? [Bug 592619] Re: Software item screen has unspecified "Share via microblog" item
Hi mpt! This is a new feature that Ken VanDine added to Software Center as part of the Social From the Start (Maverick) blueprint: https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-maverick- social-api If you try it on Lucid, then indeed clicking the link will do nothing (you'll get the following stacktrace): Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/gwibber-poster", line 112, in w = GwibberPosterWindow() File "/usr/bin/gwibber-poster", line 84, in __init__ self.set_icon_from_file(resources.get_ui_asset("gwibber.svg")) NameError: global name 'resources' is not defined However, try it on Maverick and clicking the link will bring up a "Gwibber Poster" dialog (hence the term "microblog") that will allow you to post the text "Check out apturl:akonadi-dbg" via Gwibber. At this point the basic functionality is there and working, but certainly design work is welcome. And no question that whatever we determine the desired user experience to be, it should be included in the Software Center spec. -- Software item screen has unspecified "Share via microblog" item https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/592619 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 592747] Re: Evince crashed soon after opening a document.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 592815] Re: Weird kernel timestamp jumping and incorrect time reported in kernel messages
Also, I went ahead and re-tried this with the latest upstream kernel: Linux klaatu 2.6.35-999-generic #20100653 SMP Fri Jun 11 10:56:15 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux and the behaviour is still there. Also, I finally realized the pattern which seems to be that the time jump only occurs after the system goes to sleep. [Bug 592833] [NEW] start-stop-daemon option parser error
Public bug reported: The options passed to start-stop-daemon are parsed wrong. Given any option with double colon removes the second colon. Example: start-stop-daemon --start -exec /usr/sbin/rtpproxy -- -s udp:127.0.0.1:7722 Instead of executing "/usr/sbin/rtpproxy -s udp:127.0.0.1:7722" what is executed is "/usr/sbin/rtpproxy -s udp:127.0.0.1 7722" Note that the second colon has been converted to a blank space. This breaks many programs that use multiple colons in option value. The bug is quite hard to find because the colon->blank switch is not very noticeable in the ps output. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: daemon defaults options parse start-stop-daemon ** Tags added: daemon defaults options parse start-stop-daemon -- start-stop-daemon option parser error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/592833 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 592831] [NEW] Add option for moving files to trash instead of deletion.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-commander Currently, the F8 buttons deletes the files from the file system. For better integration with the gnome desktop, the default behavior should be to move those files to trash (as is the case in nautilus for example). [Bug 580206] Re: gnome-help crashed (segmentation fault) while printing
Hi there. I try to use valgrind. I then run gnome-help from "inside" valgrind. I repeated EXACTLY the same steps-actions that usually generate the crash. No crash happened. See attached file gnome-help-NOT-crash.txt Then I ran gnome-help alone, without valgrind. I repeated EXACTLY the same steps-actions that usually generate the crash. I mean, I peform EXACTLY the same steps-actions as before (with valgrind) and now I get the crash. See attached files gnome-help-crash-a.txt and gnome-help- crash-b.txt. VERY IMPORTANT: when running from inside valgrdin, the printing procedure displayed the printer (HW) interface, then a pop-up window came claiming that the requested page to be printed was not "available" ... I cannot imagine what this means. When running alone without valgrind, the printing procedure crashed BEFORE the printer (HW) interface comes up, and no pop-up window came out. It seems that valgrind some how "bounded" the gnome-help behaviour so that gnome-help succeded in managing a "printing page fault", while without valgrind gnome-help is not able to manage it. [Bug 592815] [NEW] Weird kernel timestamp jumping and incorrect time reported in kernel messages
Public bug reported: First, some history. I really noticed this after doing some suspend/resume tests with a tool I've written. I noticed it after adding in code to actually time the suspend and resume for each iteration I run in a loop. What I noticed is that, apparently, my laptop has been running for over 18 Billion seconds. Or not. Look in /var/log/messages which should be attached to this bug to see what I mean. The important lines are between markers I inject through syslogd that look like ---CHECKBOX SLEEP TEST START --- and ---CHECKBOX SLEEP TEST END ---. Those mark the beginning and end of each suspend/resume iteration. Here are a few lines to give you an example of how the time is jumping around: Jun 11 11:16:28 klaatu kernel: [170340.742584] CPU 7 is now offline Jun 11 11:16:28 klaatu kernel: [170340.742587] SMP alternatives: switching to UP code Jun 11 11:16:28 klaatu kernel: [170340.749378] Extended CMOS year: 2000 Jun 11 11:16:28 klaatu kernel: [18446744045.913778] CPU0: Thermal monitoring enabled (TM1) Jun 11 11:16:28 klaatu kernel: [18446744045.913839] Extended CMOS year: 2000 Jun 11 11:16:28 klaatu kernel: [18446744045.913887] Enabling non-boot CPUs ... The first three lines are the final messages before the system fully enters S3 and reduces power. The last three lines are the first messages when the system beings to wake. The time between suspend and wake is no more than 60 seconds in real time, but notices how I managed to go from 170,000 seconds since boot to 18.4 billion... I thought maybe it was just that I needed a reboot, so I did a reboot and tried this test again: Jun 11 11:22:30 klaatu kernel: [ 175.191572] CPU 7 is now offline Jun 11 11:22:30 klaatu kernel: [ 175.191574] SMP alternatives: switching to UP code Jun 11 11:22:30 klaatu kernel: [ 175.197621] Extended CMOS year: 2000 Jun 11 11:22:30 klaatu kernel: [18446744053.029258] CPU0: Thermal monitoring enabled (TM1) Jun 11 11:22:30 klaatu kernel: [18446744053.029263] CPU 0 MCA banks CMCI:8 Jun 11 11:22:30 klaatu kernel: [18446744053.029323] Extended CMOS year: 2000 So you can see that I did the suspend immediately after a fresh reboot and login. The system had only been running for 175 seconds or so. BUT, again, the last three lines are the first messages during resume, and once more, the timestamps are showing 18 Billion seconds. Hardware: This is being seen on an Alienware M15x with a Quad Core i7 Intel chip and 4GB RAM. The kernel is 2.6.32-22-generic 64 Bit from the latest 10.04 LTS updates I am NOT overclocking or anything like that, and I am NOT booting with any special parameters, this is a completely stock 10.04 LTS install. I'm not positive on how to recreate these steps. The code in my test tool is simply doing things you can do manually: echo "+60" > /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm pm-suspend Then after the system resumes, it checks the logs and calculates the time to suspend and time to resume using those timestamps. [Bug 591758] Re: please remove 'timeout' from Maverick
AIUI, Debian just removed the timeout binary from its archive rather than creating a 0.19-2 tct source that doesn't ship the timeout binary. [Bug 581265] Re: k3b cannot continue multisession DVD-Rs
I confirm that this is affecting Lucid. when attempting to continue a multisession I receive a message stating that the proper medium must be inserted, even tho the multisession was started by k3b. My workaround is to manually 'umount /media/DVD_whichever' then select "New Data Project." The new files will be added on as a continuation of the multisession. Note, the problem was not present when I first installed k3b, I don't know what triggered it, but it has now been like this for at least 2 or 3 weeks. I am attaching a screenshot of the error-pop-up window.
