2010-06-15 Thread Maxim Sloyko
Tim, thanks for you concern, but the machine in question is my $work

(ironically, this is why I've chosen Ubuntu in the first place). It
works OK now with 173, so I'm going to stick with it for sometime...

[Bug 594613] Re: 10.04: /etc/x11/xorg.conf deleted after reboot

2010-06-15 Thread Oliver Schade
Hi Mario,

I spent yesterday another two hours tracking the error. It looks like the issue
is not related
to a missing /etc/X11/xorg.conf but related to the NVIDIA driver issues to
detect the screen
resolution.

According to:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia#Low%20Screen%20Resolutions

I have defined a modeline for 1920x1200 and set the Display to use this
resolution only.
Since then I had no more issues with X resolution.

Apologies for false alarm, please close this bug - sometimes it takes some time
to find the
right Google search times to find a solution :-/

there is just fine if use CreatePairedDevice in action "Add" like as the

[Bug 527458] Re: please include status messages/tooltips

2010-06-15 Thread net_man74501
Ubuntu is already overweight and bloated. I'll beit, not as much as
Winblows but it is. The reason I stick to Ubuntu is because it "just
works".

Though, now, It does not "just work" a lot of the times and this tool
tip thing has just about done me in on switching back to Winblows. I
have been using Ubuntu for about 3 years now and love it most of the
time. It's times like these that I hate it... You people take a simple
thing and turn it into something complicated!

Why can't you just have an option to let the USER decide how THEY want
to be notified?

P.S.

I am tired of playing the guessing game with the battery applet! A nice
simple tool tip would save me a lot of time. Yes, I am lazy and don't
want to click! There I said it. Now give me back my tool tips.

worked this time.
Yes the problem still exists, I have found that if I wait for about 30 seconds
it will come back (not be grayed out) and save the document.

Thanks

[Bug 586012] Re: [Maverick] XFCE system tray became unusable after libgtk upgrade

As of libgtk+2.0 2.21.2-0ubuntu2 rgba and client side decorations is

thus can't be seen with this version.

The bug is still there and we will most likely see it once again when
rgba and csd is activated again.

[Bug 527458] Re: please include status messages/tooltips

2010-06-15 Thread Kai Mast
Lucid only seems to use the look of the new tooltips. The really awesome
thing about them is however the way they're placed. And even maveric
isn't doing it yet.

I think if toolkits were placed below the gnome-panel and not randomly
across it ( I think thats whats annyoing Mark, correct me if I'm wrong)
then the indicators would be fine haveing some.

But then again, its Mark who is putting by far the most financial effort
into this project so we shouldn't force him to decide as we like imho.

[Bug 578582] Re: timer doesn't go past 57 seconds.

2010-06-15 Thread johnmcd
The games I was playing were sudoku easy and hard. Ubuntu version 9.10.
After each game is completed it gives the time taken as well as the time
not active. There may be a lot of clever people out there who can do a
sudoku puzzle in less than a minute but I am not one of them My times
are more in the region of 25 - 30 minutes. Maybe the time field in the
program code is not large enough, Maybe the counter is in the wrong
place in the code and gets skipped over under certain conditions. For me
this is no big deal it's not as if there is some monetary reward for
tyhe fastest time however if I were the programmer there would be some
pride in knowing the program worked properly.

[Bug 365779] Re: missing hcid.conf and pairing problem

2010-06-15 Thread Stefano Prenna
New information after my update to Lucid. It looks like that with Bluez
v4.x there is no way to share my internet connection with my phone. No
hcdi.conf, I can't see /etc/default/bluetooth, it seems that without the
Bluez 3.x package installed there is no way.

However I'm posting here the changes needed for my Lucid Lynx to share
my internet connection with my Palm Centro:

1. pair the phone and the pc using the standard bluetooth interface (on the
taskbar)
2. sudo apt-get install bluez-compat
3. gksudo gedit /etc/sysctl.conf
4. Uncomment the line "net.ipv4.conf.default.forwarding=1"
5. sudo sysctl -p
6. gksudo gedit /etc/ppp/peers/dun
7. paste inside the file (and adapt it to your network configuration):
115200

192.168.2.1:192.168.2.2

local

ms-dns 192.168.0.1

noauth

debug
8. sudo /usr/bin/dund --listen --persist --msdun call dun --nodetach
9. launch the connection from your phone, it worked for me.

Hello!

I followed my own prcedure from the "How to reproduce" in Post Nr.6.

* The Printpreview now shows the right photo, instead of a placeholder image.
* F-Spot does not crash anymore.

Imho this Bug can be set to fixed, also #450456 seems to be fixed.

2010-06-15 Thread Amitai Bar
Go to this link and install the deb
http://jiemeb.free.fr/pinnacle/
This deb does not replace the em28xx.ko
it copied it to the kernel_dir/empia directory. You need to manually replace
the em28xx.ko that came with the kernel.
Restart and you will have dvb.
I just think we need to add this to the ubuntu dist or make sure this guy
code will be avaliable for everyone

[Bug 594942] [NEW] R-base - greek letters in plots dissapear

2010-06-15 Thread Steffen Uhlig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: r-base

If a graph is produced in R and used furtheron with LaTeX (sequence
latex -> dvips -> ps2pdf), some greek letters just disappear. In the
example below, all greek letters can be seen in the eps-file produced by
R, the capital Omega is still shown in the DVI an PS-file produced by
latex. However, the capital Omega is missing in the pdf (and in the
print). It would be nice to have that capital Omega in the pdf and on
paper (print).

[Bug 583122] Re: firefox occasionally highlights contents of form fields while typing thereby overwriting previously entered keystrokes

2010-06-15 Thread Glenton Jelbert
This happens occasionally to me.

Most common with gmail subject line in a new email, and the google
search bar at the top right. It's a little reminiscent of a "bug" on a
banking website I used to use. I would load it up, the entry bar would
become visible, I'd type most of the number during which time the rest
of the page would load and suddenly clear the typing I'd done.

In gmail, when I'm writing a subject line and this starts, I basically
have to alternate between a letter of the subject line and the right
arrow (which moves the cursor to the end and de-selects the highlighted
text).

I have this on two separate lap tops, both of which had 9.10, and were
then upgraded to 10.04 (about a week before the release in both cases).
The problem only started with 10.04, as far as I can tell.

[Bug 538346] Re: Display manager in Ubuntu 9.10 not working with dual displays properly

2010-06-15 Thread Simon Cropper
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Hi,

I have recently moved to Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic) and am running Kernal
  Linux 2.6.31-19-generic-pae and gnome 2.28.1.

I have a dual monitor running off Geforce 8600 GT video card. The device
driver on xorg.conf have been set to the genetic "nv" drivers w/ display
setting used to allow the primary monitor to bleed into the second
screen rather than using the propriety "nvidia" drivers w/ twinspan
option on (this caused conflicts with various java programs I am using).

The problem is that when booting the system I find that although
visually the screens look OK, when I try and drag a window into the
second screen 90% of the window will go but 10% will not -- it is as if
  I hit a wall.

If I use "configure the display settings" to mirror the screens (and
apply), then untick mirror screens(and apply), the screens are OK again
-- i.e. the windows can be dragged back and forth OK.

  Any help would be appreciated.

  Simon

[Bug 559946] Re: cpio reports unknown error message when archiving big files

2010-06-15 Thread Steve Langasek
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and help to improve
Ubuntu.

The English error message that corresponds is "field width not
sufficient for storing file size"; the German translation is Ubuntu-
specific, no translation appears to be present upstream.

The error occurs because the size of the file you're trying to save
exceeds the field width available for storing this information. Since
this is a problem of the defined cpio archive format, not of the cpio
software, I'm afraid there's nothing we can do to correct this. Please
use tar instead for archives that include large files.

Please sync libcddb 1.3.2-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

We can sync this package again as debian has updated the package to
latest upstream version and incorporated all ubuntu changes

Changelog since current maverick version 1.3.2-0ubuntu1:

libcddb (1.3.2-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/control:
- Added build-dependencies on libcdio-dev and pkg-config.
  * debian/rules:
- Use dpkg-buildpackage's CFLAGS as base ones.

  (Closes: #580877)

- Bumped debhelper build-dependency to (>= 7.0.50).
- Made the dependency on shared library package binNMU-safe.
- Added the 'Homepage' field.
- The package now comply with Debian policy 3.8.4, bump Standards-Version
  accordingly.
- Set the source section ('devel').
- Added 'misc:Depends' dependency to headers package too.
  * debian/libcddb2.post{inst,rm}:
- Removed, will be automatically generated by to new debhelper.
  * debian/compat:
- Created, set to 7.
  * debian/rules:
- Rewritten using dh v7 style, added -fPIC to compilation flags.
- Do not run tests, they require Internet connection.
  * debian/copyright:
- Inserted the LGPLv2 clause, corrected the path to license file on
  Debian systems.
- Converted to UTF-8.
- Inserted full copyright notice.
  * debian/libcddb2-dev.install:
- Don't install any files from /usr/lib/include.
  * debian/libcddb2-dev.links:

[Bug 465309] Re: regular expression ^ by itself does not work in Find & Replace of Basic code

2010-06-15 Thread jimav
** Summary changed:

- regular expression ^ by itself does not work
+ regular expression ^ by itself does not work in Find & Replace of Basic code

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: openoffice.org

In Find&Replace, a regular expression of "^" (without the quotes) never
- matches anything. It should match the front of every line.
+ matches anything in the Basic macro editor (it reportedly does work in
+ document text). "^" should match the front of every line.

For example, if you want to comment out a block of code in the Basic macro
editor, it should be possible to
Find ^ in a selection and replace it with "rem " and have "rem " inserted at
the front of all the selected lines.
But ^ alone does not work, and never matches any lines.

The use of of ^ alone to match the start of lines (and, similarly $ for
end-of-lines) has been a fundamental feature of regular expressions in
computer systems since they were first widely used in 1970s Unix. OO
  should not deviate.
