[Bug 599873] [NEW] display corruption (mostly of text) after resume from suspend
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg After resuming from suspend today, on my Thinkpad X60s with intel graphics (945GM), there was serious and persistent display corruption, mostly affecting text rendering. I'll attach a screenshot. The specific corruption was not constant -- if I moved my mouse in and out of the Firefox window, all the text displayed would jump and rescramble. Restarting X (with '/etc/init.d/gdm restart') restored normal operation. I've never seen this before, so it *might* be related to the xserver upgrade I installed yesterday (1.7.6-2ubuntu7.2); I am pretty certian that this was the first suspend/resume using the new packages. After a few months I decided to give this a go again. I've got my RT2870 device working and working like it should! Im not sure if theres is much difference between using a card or usb dongle but ill share my configuration. Im using the Rosewill RNX EasyN1 b/g/n dongle working with N speeds. After installed copied the RT2870STA.dat to /etc/Wireless/RT2870STA/RT2870STA.dat. I did modify the file though. See below, I followed Pauls advice and included the password. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 295405 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295405 So we're on a completely different bug now. The dbus issue was likely related to permissions on a file included in the package. It would be interesting to reproduce in a virtual machine a fresh install of ubuntu- server and then install ubuntu-desktop, checking if the issue happens everytime. But the desktop team is busy with other things, and I'm not sure they will consider this as high priority. So if you have some free time... :-p About the authentication issue, there are cases where PolicyKit considers it won't be able to check for privileges. I don't remember exactly what they are - it's very likely that an account with an empty password won't be able to authenticate, so you may check this. Else, please run 'users-admin' in a terminal without the sudo (which is not supported), and see whether interesting messages appear. If not, kill the 'polkitd' system daemon, and restart it via: sudo /usr/lib/policykit-1/polkitd Then, reproducing the problem should show interesting information. You may also need to start /usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome- authentication-agent-1, which should be started on login normally. -- Failed to execute program /lib/dbus-1.0/dbus-daemon-launch-helper: Success https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/598909 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 525807] Re: [upstream] [3.2.1] OOo Slide Show and Fullscreen modes - not full screen under compiz
Sorry but full screen workaround does not solve this problem on either of my machines (i386 and x64), both fully up-to-date 10.04 and OOo 3.2.0-7ubuntu4.1 @Rob, you seem to be the only person who has found a workaround and the setting you think does not do it. If you disable full screen workarounds in ccsm do you see your gnome-panel(s) when you press F5 in a presentation (not text document or spreadsheet as they are unaffected)? If not then there is some other setting you have found that acts as a workaround. If you would like to send me you CCSM settings I'll happily try to them out on my machines. The only work-around if you need (want) to have compiz running is to hide the panels (either manually or auto-hide). -- [upstream] [3.2.1] OOo Slide Show and Fullscreen modes - not full screen under compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/525807 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 581659] Re: Mouse cursor jumps when two fingers are used
Hi bug reporter. First of all Thanks to report the bug and help us to make ubuntu better. I think your bug is quite confirmed as I and possibly all can reproduce the cursor jump. Although I'm sure that this is infact a bug or not as this probably is in the developers knowledge.Like for example when you enable the circular scroll feature of gsynaptics you have to scroll all through the boundary while the native drivers for synaptics in windows you can make small circles anywhere. So that seems to a limitation rather than a bug. So it could be added in a wishlist rather that filing a bug Still meanwhile I confirm that it is really a bug you could possibly help developers by including the outputs of following programs One thing that will help developers to identify the problem is the xev program that capture the input events that the xserver receives. You can run `xev -geometry 900x100-0+120 ~/xev.txt`. That will give you a 900 px wide and 100 pixel high window at the right hand side of the screen and events are captured as long as the mouse pointer is inside the window. Close the window with Alt+F4 (in order to not generate more mouse pointer moving events). Take care to not drag the mouse pointer over the window any more than necessary during this, since it will create noise in the log. Upload xev.txt here. Increase the pixels of the window so the jump is included in the log output and the cursor remains inside the window after the jump. Further try to demonstrate all other issues that you reported in the output. Second use should also preferably use synclient to get such debugging output files. Use man synclient to use this program. If you are not able to use it report back, I or somebody will help you preferably... [Bug 599833] Re: hplip won't find printer
When you wrote that your browser did the same thing as mine and that the IP must have changed... it made me look further into the modem's webpage. The printer had been deleted somehow! After several resets on the modem the printer showed up again and the printer seems to be working now. I just printed up a document that refused to print earlier... Let's call this bug SOLVED. Thank you for the clue that led me to discover what had happened. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: hplip I did an automatic computer update over the weekend of June 26, 2010. The update included some cups files. Since then I can no longer print on my hp laserjet 1501n printer. Hplip can no longer find the printer which is connected via an ethernet cable to a Verizon FIOS modem. Everything worked fine until this last update. Hplip is totally useless now. Also, if I go to localhost:631 and tell cups to print a test page... nothing happens. The test page goes into a queue and just sits there forever. If I go to the printing queue and tell delete the print job its gets deleted there, but if I then go to the cups webpage it shows the job still trying to print. I have tried reinstalling cups and hplip. I even tried downloading the latest hplip (3.10.5) and installing it. The install failed... something about python. The current cups is 1.4.3 and the current hplip is 3.10.2. In hplip even if I tell the program the url it says there is nothing there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. [Bug 586174] Re: Banshee corrupts certain music files
** Description changed: Binary package hint: banshee I purchased the album Lungs by Florence + the Machine from AmazonMP3. The first time I downloaded it, I tried pyMazon. It worked well, but as I started listening to the album in Banshee, I noticed some noise distortion after I listened to a song or two (sort of like squeeks, listen to attached mp3). I quit Banshee and tried to listen to some of the songs in Totem. The ones that had squeeked in Banshee, also squeeked in Totem, but others that I hadn't played using Banshee worked fine. I thought maybe a file or two had been corrupted during download, so I re-opened Banshee and started playing the rest of the album. Low and behold, some of the songs that had just played fine in Totem now had squeeks in Banshee. When I quit Banshee and opened the same song in Totem, it now had the squeeks there also. Now I started thinking maybe I had *somehow* missed the squeeks the first time listening in Totem and that the entire album had been corrupted somehow during download with pyMazon. Unfortunately, I hadn't had a chance to make a back-up of the files and now they ALL had squeeks in them. Forunately, I got the AmazonMP3 store to re-open the download for me. I deleted the original (now corrupted) album. This time I downloaded using the actual AmazonMP3 installer (for Windows) via Wine (since I can't get AmazonMP3's native downloader to work with Lucid). After re-downloading the album, I made a back-up of the files right away. I started by opening a bunch of the songs individually in Totem and Rhythmbox. They had no squeeks, so I chalked up my problem to a corrupted download from pyMazon. However, today I wanted to listen to the album again, so again I opened Banshee. The first song played fine. The second song (one which I'm confident I had checked in Rhythmbox and Totem just a few days ago) started squeeking. I quit Banshee and opened up the file in Totem, and it squeeked there too!! I then ran md5sums on the original and the back-up of the song that squeeks and a song I'm positive I haven't played yet in Banshee (09 - Cosmic Love.mp3 is the song that squeeks): jonat...@jonathan-laptop:~/Music/Amazon MP3/Florence + The Machine/Lungs$ md5sum 09 - Cosmic Love.mp3 261ab6c0b58811a41706001c8874f00c 09 - Cosmic Love.mp3 jonat...@jonathan-laptop:~/Downloads/Florence + The Machine/Lungs$ md5sum 09 - Cosmic Love.mp3 00da0f56c209d65ec25fe2397c088a53 09 - Cosmic Love.mp3 jonat...@jonathan-laptop:~/Music/Amazon MP3/Florence + The Machine/Lungs$ md5sum 12 - Blinding.mp3 9280f68424d5d132830b559041ed8ca3 12 - Blinding.mp3 jonat...@jonathan-laptop:~/Downloads/Florence + The Machine/Lungs$ md5sum 12 - Blinding.mp3 9280f68424d5d132830b559041ed8ca3 12 - Blinding.mp3 What the hell? If you want to hear it, listen to the attached excerpts. I'm using the default Banshee 1.6.0-1 packaged with Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit with plugins: application indicator, lyrics, ubuntu one music store, wikipedia, audio cd, audiobooks, file system preview, internet radio, play queue, podcasts, ipod support, karma support, mass storage media player support, mtp media player support, internet archive, last.fm, bookmarks, bpm, cover art, daap, importers for amarok etc, library watcher, multimedia keys I also have the boxes checked (in Edit-Preferences): Write Metadata to files, Write ratings and play counts to files. Perhaps the problem is related to those 2 boxes? I also think it may have something to do with the + symbol in either the Artist ID3 tag or the file path. I have played other music in Banshee in the last couple of days and this seems to be the only album affected that I've found. Regardless, I definitely think this is a major bug. Please let me know what more information I can provide. My Banshee application also intermittently starts to freeze/hang occasionally. I think it was actually doing that when I was playing one of the songs that ended up getting squeeks in it earlier. + TEST CASE (for banshee-community-extensions lucid SRU): + 1. Backup a music file (it should not contain lyrics in it, verify with id3v2 -l) + 2. Start Banshee (with lyrics extension enabled) + 3. Turn off the Write metadata to files option. + 4.
