[Bug 600916] [NEW] Maverick: No easy way to adjust idle time; default idle time is too short
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unclutter I don't mind it's being enabled by default in Maverick, but the idle time of 1 (about 1.5 sec.'s) is way too short and becomes annoying. The only apparent way is to edit is in etc/default/unclutter, which is unreasonable. So the default idle time should be raised and a more accessible means to configure it provided ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: unclutter 8-13 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-6.9-generic 2.6.35-rc3 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-6-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Architecture: i386 Date: Fri Jul 2 02:32:27 2010 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Alpha i386 (20100624) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: unclutter ** Affects: unclutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 maverick -- Maverick: No easy way to adjust idle time; default idle time is too short https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/600916 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 600915] [NEW] "mcopy" does not translate some filename
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mtools Running on 10.04 freshly updated. $ apt-cache policy mtools mtools: Installed: 4.0.10-1ubuntu1 Candidate: 4.0.10-1ubuntu1 Version table: *** 4.0.10-1ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status What I expected: "mcopy" would "mangle" Linux filenames as needed so they would work on fat32. What happened: error messages, directories not created, ordinary file not created, "mcopy" crashes. [Bug 577169] Re: International charachters are not working.
@Andreas, the best way is to build amsn with the new libs in a 9.10 machine and find if tk is really responsible for this. Or maybe Andreas please download tcl/tk from source, just build them (not install) and run amsn source with ./configure --with- tcl=/home/yourname/Download/sources/tcl8.5/unix --with- tk=/home/yourname/Download/sources/tk8.5/unix or something like this If you get an error when launching amsn (and launch it from bash) go to the amsn build directory and try wish ./amsn or wish8.5 ./amsn after this you will build an amsn version with the latest tcl/tk with no ubuntu-specific patch (maybe a patch breaks the chars) -- International charachters are not working. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577169 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Interesting. I don't have NTFS, FAT, or VFAT drives hooked to my box. Wondering how I can tell what's being referred to being on port <#>. [Bug 597688] Re: Unable to print from Firefox or Thunderbird since installing Lucid
So it seems that the print job does go to the printer but nothing happens (other than a short blinking led). Nothing appears in the error log I printed out. When I set to the OKI C5900(PS) it at least comes up with an error complaining about paper sizes and I can press OK and it will print. So while images of "Michael Bolton" from Office Space beating up the printer with a baseball bat and yelling:"PC Load Letter what the $...@# does that mean" is running through my head I rather calmly adjusted the page setting on firefox, thunderbird and Open Office. Now it all prints. It also prints fine on the original printer driver. So it seems the only bug is with the driver somehow not talking to the printer and noting a page setup error. Strange part is I have never really needed to set page settings in any of these apps before on previous Ubuntu's -- Unable to print from Firefox or Thunderbird since installing Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/597688 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Amazing! This bug still exists on Lucid and last status is a 'Wont Fix'. The workaround is awkward and not well documented. Well, as TBerk wrote on 2009-11-18, I have a feeling that Totem will be replaced in future. I mean it's unbelievable that this bug's life spans over several releases. [Bug 562027] Re: [ooo-build] OOo QuickStarter: unable to shutdown / reboot / logout when quickstarter is active
@Chris Coulson This is not just a quickstarter problem. This is a fundamental design issue of the behaviour in Gnome. 1. The user requests a shutdown 2. The user is asked by Gnome - Are you sure about that? 3. User explicitly confirms that he is indeed 4. Nothing happens. The importance is low - I already accepted that. (it is set to high in OO by now though) "People have more important issues to work on right now" - this is totally besides the issue. This is not a technical problem that would involve lots of coding or testing. It is a gnome design issue. To fix problems like this - at some point, gnome developers would have simply to agree on that - in a design meeting. However - by denying in the first place that this is a design problem at all - this will NEVER happen. Again - If the user initiates and confirms a shutdown - should ANY third party application be allowed to silently override that? - Anybody voting yes here? A simple fix could be to have this dialogue insisting on a password entry - if that is what we want it to do. The quick start function is not buried away in the prefs of OO. Anybody using OO will be familiar with it. Keep in mind that this includes MS users!! If they try Ubuntu for the first time - have used OO in Windows - It will be the first thing they enable - even if they never used linux before in their life. And what a nice welcome they will get upon meeting a Gnome that simply wont shut down. I fact - one of the main reasons why I switched to Gnome was a fully working quick-starter. I am sure gnome developers would have an interest in winning over users from KDE - not loosing them. "The session manager is behaving correctly here in not displaying any dialog" - What? This can only be meant politically - and I disagree 100% :) " It would be pretty annoying to have it pop up a dialog telling me there is a problem with some application, every time i cancel a log out when i've realised i have work to save" - I am using computers since 1993 - I never ever had to cancel a shutdown because I realised in that moment there is still some work I need to save. In Windows or Linux. Besides - you do NOT have the option to cancel the shutdown - which is exactly what I am talking about here... -- [ooo-build] OOo QuickStarter: unable to shutdown / reboot / logout when quickstarter is active https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/562027 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 574155] Re: Software-Center don't remove unactivated ppa's
Old repositories have finally disappeared for me as well, but only once I removed this package: app-install-data-medibuntu. That package is a recommended part of adding the Medibuntu repository, according to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu#Adding%20the%20Repository . Removing it seems to have made no noticeable difference other than fixing this bug. I’m not sure if the bug is caused by the package or merely exposed by it. [Bug 600898] [NEW] timeout delay in write loop too long for BD-R[E]
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dvd+rw-tools dvd+rw-tools-7.1-6, kubuntu 10.04 During the course of tracking down a device buffer underrun/cache coherency firmware problem affecting apparently only BD-R on Buffalo BRHC-6316U2 (LG GGW-H20N) firmware level XJ03, I discovered that adjusting the timeout delay in the main write loop at ~line 515 of growisofs_mmc.cpp: cmd.timeout(dao_toggle?180:60); to if (_64k) cmd.timeout(dao_toggle?30:10); // reduce buffer under-runs in device cache else cmd.timeout(dao_toggle?180:60); substantially reduced the extent of the buffer underruns/cache failures. While it did not solve the problem, I think for blu-ray media, which spin 3.2 times faster base rate (1X), the delay between writes might be just too long. I don't know what happens if we wait too little. But the host can be suspended on signal; the media burn cannot (at least not always - buffer underrun protection and zero-loss linking features are not yet universal). ** Affects: dvd+rw-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- timeout delay in write loop too long for BD-R[E] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/600898 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 547244] Re: package libatk1.0-dev 1.29.92-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/gir-1.0/Atk-1.0.gir', which is also in package gobject-introspection-repository 0:0.
** Description changed: Updating libatk1.0-dev in karmic to the version of libatk1.0-dev in lucid causes an error, due to libatk1.0-dev in lucid containing the same file as the gobject-introspection-repository package from karmic. libatk1.0-dev contains the file in question due to the deprecation of the gobject-introspection-repository package. Whilst most users do not have libatk1.0-dev installed, there is a good chance that developers updating from karmic will hit this packaging error. Whilst slightly outside the standard upgrade use case, the libatk1.0-dev package in its current form will break the release upgrade process. There is no chance of regression potential, as the updated libatk1.0-dev package replaces gobject-introspection-repository, thereby taking ownership of the file file that causes the conflict error. Test case: This bug, and the proposed fix, are best tested in a karmic chroot, with all karmic updates applied. The tester will also require libatk1.0-0 and libatk1.0-dev packages for both lucid, and lucid-proposed, either by downloading the .deb files directly, or adding lucid-proposed as a package source in sources.list. If a karmic chroot is not available, an up to date karmic install should be sufficient for testing. If you wish to update your system completely from akrmic to lucid, skip step 2 below, and perform the instructions in step 3, ensuring you also have lucid-proposed in sources.list. The chroot method is preferred however, as it prevents the installation of other packages from lucid-proposed, which may interfear with testing the fix for this bug. - 1. Enter the karmic chroot, and install libatk1.0-dev from the karmic repos. + 1. Enter the karmic chroot, and install libatk1.0-dev and gobject-introspection-repository from the karmic repos. 2. Either from .deb files, or by adding lucid in sources.list, install libatk1.0-0 and libatk1.0-dev packages. Notice the package error, due to two packages claiming to own /usr/share/gir-1.0/Atk-1.0.gir. 3. Again either from .deb files, or by adding lucid-proposed to sources.list, install libatk1.0-0 and libatk1.0-dev packages, making sure they are version 1.30.0-0ubuntu2.1. These packages should now install successfully. NOTE: This bug is not present when upgrading from lucid to maverick, so no fix is required in maverick. [Bug 557232] Re: [Lucid] Regression - Camera no longer automatically mounted when connected via USB
@Jeremy Foshee Yes this is still an issue. I get the same problem with a Rebel XTi. Worked fine in 9.10. Now I can only access images via F-Spot's import routine (which frequently is not what I want to do, since I just want a couple pictures off the camera without importing them into F-Spot).
