[Bug 458742] Re: Cannot remove myspell-en-* separatelly
No, the "|" symbol is not the proper fix, because then installing the meta package will only pull one of them, and we cannot guarantee which one. I'm afraid with the current structure in our language support (by Language, not by variation) we don't have any other choice. I have some ideas already on how to change the structure of how languages are managed, but this will need to be fleshed out in a blueprint. ** Changed in: language-support-writing-en (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Wishlist ** Changed in: language-support-writing-en (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- Cannot remove myspell-en-* separatelly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/458742 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I just got this bug twice (for some reason) while I was away from my computer. I'm glad to see that its triaged and fix committed already (thanks Pedro)! I have the same versions installed with the exception of AMD64 if that helps at all (rather than posting a new report). Re: [Bug 605216] Re: It doesnt matter what I put here, none of the solutions work!
I have reported enough bugs, and thanks for the advice but that is ALL I have been doing for the last 3 weeks. I have spent on average 2/3's of every day of my University school holidays for the last 3 weeks doing just as you suggested. Still nothing, I had added details to other bugs, I have followed the advice from launchpad, ubuntu forums, debian forums, mint/ubuntu forums. I have also spent time on the gnome forums, kde and xfce forums as well looking for problems. This is the problem I find - there is NO answer for this problem. Now Im a pretty clever guy, but when a problem is completely random, when you report bugs as ur requested to do, you follow ALL advice and still no answers, and other people are still having problems too?! I have to wonder, thats all Im saying. Granted, I take your point that ubuntu cant test on ALL forms of hardware and thats a given; but neither can Windows, and as much as I hate it, its fully stable on the hardware I have... ...so it begs the philosophical question. How do THEY do it?! But it doesnt matter now, I will have to wait another couple of years again and give it another go. I can remember paying $49.95 for redhad 6 donkeys yrs ago and it has come a long way. Maybe in another 2 to 4 yrs ubuntu will ACTUALLY "work out of the box". I do, truely hopefully, wish and pray for that day. :) Thanks, but the advice doesnt help On 14/07/2010, Dr. Kenobi <605...@bugs.launchpad.net> wrote: > Richard, I'm sorry you are having too many problems with Ubuntu. [Bug 595650] Re: After the last updates HP printer stopped working
FLOID: Ooopppsss!!! Sorry for my stupid question at comment #59 and thank You for Your reply. ok - libusb-0.1-4 PROPOSED worked for me as well. On comment #55 I described a problem related to duplex printing (dual side printing - an hardware enabled feature of many HP printers) ... thank You DANIEL for Your private answer. After some tests with the new PROPOSED libusb, I suspect that the problem is not related to the usb driver, many rather it could be related to the "printer language" interface (cups or hplip or something similar). Therefore You could consider void my comment #55 ... I will focus on this later and maybe I will report a separate bug, if this will be the case. Grazie. [Bug 604007] Re: apt-get install failed on package python-gobject-dbg
Last update now. As long as I need a "stable" Lucid system, I decided to clean-up everything without spending more time in this investigation of the bug. The problem actually arose when trying to debugging a proposed version of a buggy package. After that trial, I caused the system to become unstable (from the APT point of view). Therefore I cleaned up everything just a few minutes ago, deleting /etc/sources.list.d/ddebs and removing all *-dbgsym packages. Now the system is correct and APT is working well. [Bug 554980] Re: two finger scroll/multitouch not working on lenovo thinkpad w510 having SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad..
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 308191 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/308191 Everyone wants Ubuntu to be as good as it can be. Idealistic notions aside, the fact is that there is a limited amount of manpower to attend to these bugs. So, in the interest of expediting a fix that will be adequate to the largest number of users, I'll compare these bugs: bug 554980 can be fixed with a simple patch to gnome-mouse-properties. In fact, it was working in Jaunty, and this represents a regression. Multitouch emulation is in the system, it works, and it simply needs a GUI to activate it. This could even be done in lucid-updates. bug 308191 touches a lot of packages and much of the required code isn't deployed. There is no way this can be done in Lucid and probably not even in Maverick. Even with a far-off, allegedly superior solution that would resolve bug 308191, the user experience would be exactly the same as if we fixed bug 554980. Genuine multitouch and multitouch emulation, at this point, are indistinguishable to an end user. And while "expert bug fixers" are spending time on a more difficult solution, they are neglecting other, far more serious, bugs. So, we have to choose: if we value a user experience, which enables two- fingered scrolling in the near future, let's fix this bug. If we want to spend years in development creating the ultimate solution, while users get a sub-par operating system, then let's ignore this bug and focus on 308191. In any case, this is not at all my decision to make. I'm just a user to would like to have a solution that works as soon as possible. If the Ubuntu community decides otherwise, so be it. That's my last word on the subject. -- two finger scroll/multitouch not working on lenovo thinkpad w510 having SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad.. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554980 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Responsiveness (for everything) is back when I unmount the ssh/sftp connection in Nautilus, and/or close the ssh terminals. -- Solution: - Applications should understand that the connection is temporarily gone, and not waste resources on a broken ssh connection. - Ideally, all involved applications should remember the remote filesystem location and opened files, until the connection is back. If they already do, we need to take care that the bugfix does not change this. - Ubuntu hibernate should tell applications that ssh connections are temporarily gone. - Ubuntu wake-up-from-hibernate should ask the ssh password and reconnect, if I want to use one of the applications that depends on the ssh connection. This should not be in a modal dialog, but rather in a panel notification or anything that can wait until user takes care of it. Bottomline: Remember the state, allow to reconnect, and be patient (with dialogs and system resources) as long as the connection is (temporarily) gone. Important: As it is now, if after the unmount I then change one of the files in gedit, it will ask me for the ssh password and reconnect. This is good, and should stay this way!! - I make this a kernel bug, because of the hibernate stuff. I imagine that gedit is just one example for this problem, and the real solution has to happen in the kernel. [Bug 339313] Re: Kubuntu Jaunty: Cannot Connect To Wireless Network with WEP shared key
Thanks Aurelien for the comments. There is more to this sad tale..! I bought my laptop to work on Monday after the successful authentication at home on my 'pseudo' work (WEP) network - and it STILL would not authenticate! Then I remembered that I had a Linksys USB wireless NIC at home, so I decided to give that a try. It shows up as wlan0, and after a couple of (small) changes in the configuration at home, it successfully connected to my WPA network. As it is 11b/g, of course, it is also faster than the embedded IPW2100, so a bonus. That proved that it worked as a device - ie driver; supplicant; manager chain was all good. I bought my laptop in to work this morning - plugged in the USB and it immediately connected to the WEP network. Success at last! So it looks as though there is something very odd about the combination of (work) network authentication and the ipw2100 driver since everything works with the Linksys USB device. Now to answer your question - and first with a question? Where did you get your included screenshot from? Which program / command gives you that dialog? I have never seen such a screen. Recall that I am now using Wicd 1.7.0 and NOT Network manager. In that application, there is a 'Properties' option that offers WEP(Passphrase) and WEP(Hex[0-9/A-F]). I presume I have connected with the WEP(Hex...) option where I have entered key#1 E235485511. However, I see that I have ALSO entered the passphrase - 12345 - in the WEP(Passphrase) option. If I try to remove either, I get a warning dialog that the "network requires encryption to be enabled". I'll send a couple of screenshots that might show what I mean. Re: [Bug 604635] Re: [Maverick] Have default settings be energy star 5.0 compliant
Checking that we are a laptop for the suspend after 30 would cover a majority of OEM enabled machines, so I think would definitely be a step in the right direction. For desktops that need the requirement then, it would only be a matter of setting a single gconf key. [Bug 605272] [NEW] mouse pointer disappears after movement stops
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz ubuntu release: 10.10 alpha-2 i labeled this under the gtk-window-decorator. i couldn't really find the process name that controls the graphical user interface that deals with mouse movement and what-not. as the summary says, the mouse pointer disappears after not moving for a short period. it reappears if the mouse is moved again. just found it rather annoying and figured that it wasn't something that should be occurring considering that i couldn't find an option to enable a "disappearing mouse pointer" function under the system menu. also, considering that the mouse pointer doesn't do that under any of the other releases of ubuntu that i've used over the past three years, i just thought it was a glitch that should be reported. i'm kinda new to this whole alpha testing, if you can't tell.
