[Bug 576352] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 hangs/locks up often

2010-08-15 Thread FD
after various testing, it appears to be stable after I uninstalled
package named "xserver-xorg-video-nouveau".

Strangely it is still able to find a "nouveau" module somewhere (I see
it in lsmod).

[Bug 350936] Re: Should shut down domains on system shutdown

2010-08-15 Thread Andy
Update**
In my comment #38 above step (2) I replaced the following modification in
/etc/init.d/sendsigs from.

while /bin/ls /var/run/libvirt/qemu/*.pid>/dev/null 2>&1 && [
$kvm_shutdown_timeout -gt 0 ]

with:

while /usr/bin/pgrep -cx kvm > /dev/null 2>&1 && [ $kvm_shutdown_timeout
-gt 0 ]

I have rebooted the host several times and all 2 guests shutdown
cleanly.

[Bug 618529] [NEW] kernel call traces from blk-core.c

2010-08-15 Thread Jeff Waugh
Public bug reported:

I'm getting some kernel call traces dumped in dmesg from blk-core.c, on
my Xen-based Linode server (Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS with linux-
image-2.6.32-24-generic).

Someone appears to have seen similar traces running under qemu-kvm, and
Christoph Hellwig responded with a potential fix.

Raudsepp)
   Potential fix: http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux-kvm/2010/1/29/6257464

[Bug 601850] Re: Filezilla crashes when open new tab

2010-08-15 Thread Shawn Brito
I had the same issue with Filezilla 3.3.1 Ubuntu Package version as
well.. When opening tabs, it throws the
"_ZN13wxAuiNotebook15SetSelectedFontERK6wxFont," and quits..

Since I didn't wanted to manually compile the package and break the
Synaptic Package Manager's beauty :) I used the Filezilla PPA..

I installed the following 2 usual packages via the Synaptic Package Manager..
libcairo2 1.8.10-2ubuntu1
libwxgtk2.8-0 2.8.10.1-0ubuntu1.1

And added the PPA for Filezilla (3.3.4) Lucid...
ppa:ferramroberto/linuxfreedomlucid

Do an Package manager Update and Upgrade your Filezilla..

Thats It..!!

Wrong. At least it seems to me without being an expert in the internals.
They truly are two separate and distinct bugs.
Read the short descriptions

One is an issue regarding shutdown
One is regarding user-switching

One successfully processes a password authentification
One (seemingly) does not

One can result in data loss (due to shut down)
One can only result in data compromise

[Bug 591207] Re: Casper's USB update-initramfs shim should look for initrd.img in /boot

2010-08-15 Thread Martin Pitt
Interesting, I recreated my USB stick with the current 10.04.1 candidate
iso now (which already has the lucid-proposed version), and now I get:

$ sudo update-initramfs -u
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-24-generic

I'll attach the complete log with -v, but it doesn't give away much more
info.

Adding -x to /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/casper-

[Bug 601536] Re: KDE 4.5 RC: Login Manager forgets user name

2010-08-15 Thread David Nemeskey
Reinhard: thanks, that (almost) solved it. Apparently you need to
execute both commands recursively, so

sudo chgrp -R kdm kdm
sudo chmod -R g=rwx kdm

Now it works, but still it would be nicer to have a regular (automatic)
fix for it.

[Bug 618518] [NEW] Maverick meerkat Alpha 3 for i686

2010-08-15 Thread Ram Rambo
Public bug reported:

I have Intel core i7 720QM CPU with 57 motherboard. I tried installing
64bit alpha 3 but failed to even boot.

The error msg read like this

"This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU.

Unable to boot - Please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU "

Will this version atleast support the Intel i686 architecture ?

I booted a lucid final live system from a USB stick with 128 MB of

However, after upgrading to the proposed version it still fails:

2010-08-15 Thread Ivan Bonacci
i had experience on asteriskNow distro and often fighted with the
faxoverip reliability

i compiled spandsp and also rx_fax and tx_fax with the same errors but
they where working anyway

check the spandsp lib version in use is correspondig to the apps
and check the asterisk makefile patching procedure

http://www.asteriskguru.com/tutorials/spandsp.html

using app_rxfax.c, app_txfax.c and apps_makefile.patch

maybe same patching procedure will work for ubuntu

[Bug 572410] Re: [SRU] nmbd doesn't start because of missing testparm

2010-08-15 Thread Steve Langasek
Confirmed:

- installed samba from lucid, then removed the recommended samba-common-bin.
- rebooted; nmbd did not start up.
- ran 'sudo start nmbd', job fails to start.
- installed samba from lucid-proposed; this pulled in samba-common-bin
automatically, and nmbd is now running.

[Bug 615803] Re: Computer freeze when removing power cable

2010-08-15 Thread Martin Pitt
A likely candidate for this could be the powersave scripts. Can you
please uninstall the pm-utils-powersave-policy package, and check if it
still happens?

If so, please reinstall it again, and try this instead:

  sudo mv /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/95hdparm-apm /usr/lib/pm-
utils/power.d/95hdparm-apm.orig

If it still happens, please move it back with

  sudo mv /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/95hdparm-apm.orig /usr/lib/pm-
utils/power.d/95hdparm-apm

Right after you encounter such a freeze, can you please reboot and
attach /var/log/kern.log?

[Bug 618512] [NEW] gdm allows shutdown when other accounts open

2010-08-15 Thread What, me urgent?
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

00] Environment - two users logged in. There is a dedicated root-user account,
with a dedicated password, and the other users have NO sudoer privileges.
01] User#1 request to shut down the machine using gnome panel applet
02] response is a black screen with authorization window requiring password
(picture of keys on left side) and warning that another user is logged in.
[[ BTW ### Nothing in the message states which of the three passwords are
being requested!  ]]
03] Each of the three passwords are tried at least once
[[ BTW ### None of the passwords are REPORTED to have been accepted ]]
04] After a final shudder and claim that the password could NOT be
authenticated, the authentication window disappears, and the GDM greeter screen
appears.
[[ HUH?! Did it just 'give up', or did it mis-report a proper password
authentification as improper? If so, which password? ]]
05] The GDM greeter allows the computer to be shut down using the button on the
right side of the lower panel.
[[ But this happedned without authentification !! ]]

[Bug 350936] Re: Should shut down domains on system shutdown

2010-08-15 Thread Andy
Ok so I came up with a workaround that seems to be working for me. The
guests shutdown completely. Not sure what this breaks if anything.
There still needs to be a permanent fix for this bug but here is what I
did.

(1)
Edit /etc/init/libvirt-bin.conf
I added this under the "pre-start script" section.

pre-stop script
/etc/init.d/kvmguests stop
end script

(2)
Edit /etc/init.d/sendsigs

Search in /etc/init.d/sendsigs for "do_stop () {" and add these lines
right below it.

kvm_shutdown_timeout=30
while /bin/ls /var/run/libvirt/qemu/*.pid>/dev/null 2>&1 && [
$kvm_shutdown_timeout -gt 0 ]
do
sleep 1
kvm_shutdown_timeout=$(expr $kvm_shutdown_timeout - 1)
done

(3)
Create sys-v init script kvmguests and put it in /etc/init.d and make it
executable.
Here is mine attached to this post. It can also be used to manually stop the
guests.

**Notes: The kvm_shutdown_timeout=30 in /etc/init.d/sendsigs can be
tuned to your environment.

** Attachment added: "init script to shutdown guests on host shutdown."

[Bug 618508] [NEW] setup_kernel_image function error: /usr/bin/rootstock: 793: Bad substitution

2010-08-15 Thread Ivan Bonacci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rootstock

Description: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release:10.04
2.6.32-24-generic

rootstock:
  Installed: 0.1.99.3-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.1.99.3-0ubuntu1

running:

sudo rootstock --fqdn ubuntu --login jdoe --password letmein --imagesize
2G   --seed wget,nano,linux-firmware,wireless-tools,usbutils --dist
lucid --serial ttyS2 --components "main universe multiverse"
--kernel-image http://www.rcn-ee.net/deb/lucid/v2.6.33.5-l3/linux-
image-2.6.33.5-l3_1.0lucid_armel.deb

Problem:
 line 381 generates /usr/bin/rootstock: 792: Bad substitution from line 792 on
setup_kernel_image call

###output###

I: Configuring initramfs-tools...
I: Base system installed successfully.
I: First stage install done
I: Downloading kernel image (deb) from external site
I: linux-image-2.6.33.5-l3_1.0lucid_armel.deb download complete
I: 2.6.33.5-l3_1.0lucid_armel.deb <--- added echo to check string
manipulation output, confirmed problem on line 381
/usr/bin/rootstock: 792: Bad substitution

#

setup_kernel_image() function failure

381. KERNEL_IMG_REL=${KERNEL_IMG_REL/_*_armel.deb}

changed string manipulation approach

from:
Substring Replacement ${string/substring

to:
Substring Removal ${string%%substring}

removing longestmatch of substring from back of string
string removal keeps kernelversion name indepentent removing from _ to b in
_1.0lucid_armel.deb

KERNEL_IMG_REL=${KERNEL_IMG_REL%%_*b}

output result:

I: Downloading kernel image (deb) from external site
I: linux-image-2.6.33.5-l3_1.0lucid_armel.deb download complete  <<-- full
image version
I: 2.6.33.5-l3_1.0lucid_armel.deb 1 <-- first string removal
I: 2.6.33.5-l3 2 <-- second string removal
I: Setting up serial tty in image

procedure succesfully completed
images and fs generated:
# armel-rootfs-
# vmlinuz-2.6.
# initrd.img-2.6.

tried different string manipulation with no good result,
seems like the original string replacement string/substring /_*_armel.deb
was miss interpreted or giving problems in execution (even if working on
command line)

tested and completed on Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS lucid lynx

[Bug 618507] [NEW] Blank X screen when KMS is enabled

2010-08-15 Thread Marshal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

On a Toshiba L505D laptop (with an ATI M880G [Mobility Radeon HD 4200]),
running Maverick, when X starts, there is only a blank screen, and a cursor
which consists of a flat multicolored line. This cursor can be moved, and
ctrl-alt-f1 can be used to
switch to a console. The console displays numerous "Failed to schedule ib"
messages. This is with gdm and starting X manually with startx.

Following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/KernelModeSetting I disabled KSM, and now X
works normally. Specifically, I created /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf
with the following contents:

options radeon modeset=0

The only downside I can see is that the console now has an 80 column
display on a widescreen monitor, but this is minor.

This bug also affects fresh installations. I just installed Lucid and
only the first user who logs in have the nm-applet icon.

The fix mentioned here doesn't work either.
