While looking at this, I gave my test program a try on NetBSD 5.0.2, and
the terminal is handled correctly, so this may be specific to glibc
and/or linux terminal I/O.

[Bug 621595] [NEW] An empty window pops up with some worksheet modification related options

2010-08-20 Thread Janne Kiivisto
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I'm running Openoffice's Calc 3.2. in Xubuntu Lucid (10.4)

I tried to rename, add or copy/move a worksheet without success,
because after clicking the right mouse and choosing for instance
"rename", an empty window pops up.

The change sheet's color and delete options, as well as other options
not related with sheets work fine so far. I also use the Writer module,
where I have not faced problems.

I think that the problem started as I updated Xubuntu to Lucid 10.4. I
have tried to install Openoffice again, but it did not help.

In Ubuntu's forum's question # 120750 I was advised to reset
Openoffice's settings and options by renaming the .openoffice.org folder
in my home directory, but it did not help either.

I have the intuition that it happens when the network connection is
on/off a number of times, either because the laptop "roams" from one
wifi to another, because it sleeps/wakes up several times, or because
the server it is connected to is restarted,...

This seems to be a bug inside of python-apt. The attached test script
prints the untranslated status messages to the command line. I can
confirm that the strings are correctly translated in Synaptic which
directly accesses the c++ API.

Writes to raid array that exceed approx. 500 KiB/s triggers the "link is
slowhardreset" messages 2-3 times per minute
(tested with fast download torrents, and playing with torrent client's throttle)

Reads from raid array that exceed approx. 2000 KiB/s triggers the "link is
slowhardreset" messages every couple of minutes
(tested with playing various bitrate media files from array)

Do any of the above, and
1) System iowait rises sharply to between 80 & 100% for approx 30 seconds
During that time, any processes using disk stall (and poss. timeout)

2) After that 30 second period message posted in syslog

3) lather, rinse, repeat

[Bug 619268] Re: Scanned document has three images

2010-08-20 Thread Kostas Oikonomou
I have downloaded the alpha 3 release of Ubuntu 10.10 (the desktop 64bit
one). Using a live CD I managed to download xsane. I scanned a document
with colour settings and I attach for you the result as "colour
scanning". I also tried to scan in black white mode and saved the result
in a file. Unfortunately I cannot attach a second file. Though I saved
the result in my computer (on the hard disk). The black white result
does not differ very much from the colour one.

Thank you for your attention to me and your interest.

Kostas Oikonomou

[Bug 433355] Re: Down Arrow stops working when open a new terminal window

2010-08-20 Thread Fabio Marconi
hello Gerardo

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 621583] [NEW] Typo in package description

2010-08-20 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: exaile

Argg... I just introduced a typo in the package description. The second
paragraph reads:

Originally conceived to be similar in style and function to KDE's
Amarok 1, Exaile use the GTK+ widget toolkit. It is written in
Python, utilizing the GStreamer media framework.

It of course should be:

Originally conceived to be similar in style and function to KDE's
Amarok 1, Exaile uses the GTK+ widget toolkit. It is written in
Python, utilizing the GStreamer media framework.

It doesn't warrant an upload by itself at this time, but needs to be fixed
before release. This is just a tracking bug for my own reference.

[Bug 621578] [NEW] Hauppauge hvr-2200 stops working when Hauppauge hvr-1110 is connected

2010-08-20 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
Public bug reported:

Bug is with the v4l/dvb subsystem, saa7164 driver. I am using Mythbuntu 10.04
and have linux-firmware-nonfree from:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware-nonfree/+bug/579783

I have been happily using Mythbuntu with a Hauppauge hvr-2200 dual tuner
DVB-T for many months (thanks Steven Toth!) and it records all my TV in
MythTV.

NZ has three DVB-T multiplexes, so I bought a second single-tuner DVB-T
card, a Hauppauge hvr-1110, to cover the third multiplex and mean that,
with multirec, I can record all channels and never hit a conflict.

As I say, the hvr-2200 works really well. When I put the hvr-1110 in
(and install the non-free firmware linked above), the hvr-1110 registers
as an adapter and plays TV well as well.

Unfortunately, when I have both cards in with their firmware, the
hvr-1110 stops the hvr-2220 registering its two adapters. Dmesg is
attached. I have now (before reporting the bug) removed the hvr-1110 so
that I am back to my working dual-tuner hvr-2200 configuration.

Interestingly to me, when I only have the hvr-2200 firmware installed,
but with both cards in the machine, all three adapters register (create
/dev/dvb/ nodes), but clearly only the hvr-2200 adapters actually work.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I saw some things in dmesg
about IRQ conflicts, but I really have no idea.

The package needs to be adapted to build (change locales-all build dependency to
localed).
It installs fine and when installed, allows libcpan-meta-perl to be compiled.

[Bug 621577] [NEW] Applications should be Unicode-sorted

2010-08-20 Thread Michael Terry
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity-place-applications

It appears that applications are currently sorted by code-point
comparisons (i.e. the numeric Unicode value is higher or lower). But
this isn't the Right Way to sort Unicode strings.

For example, see the attached screenshot. Where "Déjà Dup Backup
Utility" comes after "Dogtail Recorder".

The Right Way way of sorting Unicode strings is according to the UCA:
http://unicode.org/reports/tr10/ (which, to me, is pretty fascinating;
it's a surprisingly complicated problem). This is the same method used
by the Software Center to sort applications
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareCenter#def-alphabetically).

There is a library, libicu that includes methods for sorting strings.

[Bug 621570] [NEW] Ellipsizing long labels is too aggressive

2010-08-20 Thread Michael Terry
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity-place-applications

I was looking around the applications place and one thing bugged me:
many labels were ellipsized and just didn't give much to go on.

Then I went to the Internet tab (screenshot attached) and every single
entry was ellipsized! And you can't tell what many of the apps actually
are. Gwibber what client? Remote what viewer?

There is so much unused vertical space while labels are being cut off.
Could we drop to a second line before ellipsizing?

Chris thanks for the quick response, that confirms the problem
perfectly.

I went ahead and forwarded the bug upstream. Probably best to just wait
a while for a patch from them.

Marking Triaged as it has been forwarded upstream. Lowering the
importance to Low, as it will only affect users with raid0 and linear
md's, not all users of the plugin.

[Bug 595298] Re: Failure of Select and Install software using server cd i386 Ubuntu 10.10

2010-08-20 Thread Jose Ernesto Davila
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in debian-installer.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

It appears to be specific to RAID0.

/proc/mdstat for RAID0 stripes doesn't bother to list the member devices
or their statuses, since if the stripe goes down, the whole thing is toast.

E.g.:

c...@vmserver1:~$ cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [linear] [multipath] [raid0] [raid1] [raid6] [raid5]
[raid4] [raid10]
md2 : active raid0 sdf1[1] sde1[0]
  1952443392 blocks 64k chunks

md0 : active raid1 sda1[0] sdd1[3] sdc1[2] sdb1[1]
  995904 blocks [4/4] []

md1 : active raid5 sdc2[2] sdd2[3] sda2[0] sdb2[1]
  1460549184 blocks level 5, 64k chunk, algorithm 2 [4/4] []

c...@vmserver1:~$ sudo /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_linux_raid
Use of uninitialized value within %status in pattern match (m//) at
/usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_linux_raid line 82, line 11.
Use of uninitialized value within %status in pattern match (m//) at
/usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_linux_raid line 91, line 11.
OK md0 status=[]. md1 status=[]. md2 active with no status
information.

[Bug 553809] Re: System goes to a crawl when enabling desktop effects (Intel 8xx/9xx driver), this only after latest update.

2010-08-20 Thread Jose Ernesto Davila
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in xorg.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

** Package changed: ubuntu => xorg (Ubuntu)

[Bug 621557] Re: package icoutils (not installed ) failed to install/upgrade: impossível acessar a rquivo: Arquivo ou diretório não encontrado

2010-08-20 Thread Jimmy Pinto Stelzer
After upgrade I execute:
sudo apt-get -f install
then the broken package has fixed.

Something strange happened during the auto system upgrade, but
everything is working after the apt-get -f install.

Sorry for my poor english.
