[Bug 532232] Re: [MASTER] Please update lightning extension to version 1.0 for use with Thunderbird 3

2010-08-30 Thread Hagen Fürstenau
It should be noted that there is currently no easy and secure workaround
for this regression. You either have to download the 64bit build over an
insecure connection or get the sources securely and build it yourself. I
opted for the latter, but it certainly can't count as easy.

NoOp [2010-08-31 2:20 -]:

> Martin Pitt please explain the status?

You already summarized it pretty well. None of the devs have a floppy
disk, so debugging them is a pain (as much of a pain as floppy disks
are in the first place..) Personally, the last one I had was 2002..

So for now, I'm afraid that you have to use an older Ubuntu release
for now, or use the downgraded version for a while.

I'm sorry that this isn't the answer you are looking for, but it's the
current situation.

[Bug 605832] Re: LG monitor behaving incorrectly when used in conjunction with the Panda board and HDMI

2010-08-30 Thread Lee Jones
I'm well aware that the fixes are available. I was actively involved in
their production. However, we are waiting for our kernel to be rebased
onto L24.9. If we persist in segregating fixes from the main release,
the rebase will become more difficult.

The short answer is; I'm afraid you'll have to be patient and wait.

Out of interest does this issue still occur with ES2.0 and ES2.1?

2010-08-30 Thread ja...@apps4u.com.au
I have been having this same issue I have just upgrade from 8.10 to

and 10.5 clients stopped auto mounting nfs homes and I used another bug
(#540637) report which fixed the issue up untill 3 days ago when I
started to have client not able to mount their home dir. after stopping
nfs-kernel-server and portmap and restarting then they could mount their
home folders but they keeped getting kick off and losing the mount the
only way I have been able to fix it is by running rpc.statd -Fd in a
termal as root and their mount comes back . .

[Bug 605686] Re: nointremap needed - Blocked an interrupt request due to source-id verificiation failure

2010-08-30 Thread Youquan Song
No. your work round is very risk by merely jumping off the panic check.
It will push the whole system into unstable situation if the timer
interrupt is not guaranteed to route through the interrupt remapping
when interrupt remapping is actually enabled.

The source id checking in interrupt remapping enable the incoming interrupt
resource validation, but some platform or chipset have issue for this feature,
so we need the kernel adding a option to ensure user to disable it on the
issued platform.
source id only a small feature in interrupt remapping, so it is no good choice
to disable whole interrupt remapping.

So I suggestion to backport the "nosid" kernel option, tell end user or
by dmidecode to backlist this feature on the target platform.

 Thanks
-Youquan

[Bug 627245] [NEW] Minor artifacts and corruptions in Kubuntu with Nouveau

2010-08-30 Thread Toni Helenius
Public bug reported:

I'm using Kubuntu 10.04 with the latest updates (not-including any
unofficial or pre-released) with KDE 4.4.2. I used NVIDIA's binary blob
before. I used Jockey to uninstall it and now I'm using Nouveau. I get
this black area on my taskbar always, not right I guess. Also some minor
artifact occasionally like Amarok's OSD shows the album covers entirely
garbled and ugly. Sometimes some icons like Konqueror's search bar icons
get this way too.

These are minor issues but hopefully valuable to Nouveau/Kubuntu
developers :)

I'm using NVIDIA 9800GTX+ Dark Knight.

[Bug 627243] [NEW] ati mainboard problems with graphics card

2010-08-30 Thread florin.moisa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

There is a problem with initialization of the graphics drivers. I've
tried ATI Radeon 1650 Pro and Nvidia 6200 (also Nvidia 7300) graphics
cards. Both of the drivers fail to initialize as far as I've seen might
be a problem with power control ... or something related. The mainboard
is this one http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=ALiveXFire-
eSATA2%20R3.0 ... I don't have the latest bios on my mainboard...I guess
should be the one that was shipped with...I've attached the logs that I
get during startup of gdm. Thanks in advance, and hope this should help
u getting even better.

Re: [Bug 625981] Re: RealTek 888 ICH10 not detected by default

2010-08-30 Thread Luke Yelavich
Interesting. I wonder whether the audio driver does indeed properly
support your hardware, but something else was blocking it from working
properly, and somethign other than the model argument addition made
things work...

I am coming to this conclusion because the driver does know about your
hardware to a large extent, and I thought I would have to add one more
line of code to make things work better, however what you have said
above makes me think things should work fine, but they weren't working
for some reason until you changed something...

I am stumped at this point, and think that the only way to get the
answer is to boot a live CD of either lucid or maverick, and test to see
whether audio is working.

Thanks for your cooperation.

"Affects me too" is not a proper statement here. It should rather be "no

fact, it is possible to change settings in "System Settings.

[Bug 332381] Re: cheese records at a painfully slow fps

2010-08-30 Thread Chris Lasher
This bug was marked as a duplicate of Bug #252664, but these two bugs
are not directly related, so I removed this duplicate status. Bug
#252664 is about choppy framerate in the observation window of Cheese;
this bug is about choppy framerate when using Cheese to actually record
video. Framerate when not recording video is otherwise acceptable.

[Bug 625981] Re: RealTek 888 ICH10 not detected by default

Still no dice. My guess is that alsa or pulse is somehow keeping state.
I tried wiping out the ~/.pulse directory but that didn't have any
effect.

[Bug 627227] [NEW] ChrootDir(mpm_common) and DocumentRoot issues

2010-08-30 Thread dmitri.g
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apache2

#

# apache starts, requests work but php cant load inc.php (docroot==chroot)
# (this only works because / actually exists in the filesystem)
#
# ChrootDir /var/www/example.com/web/
# DocumentRoot /

Apache fails to start with "DocumentRoot doesn't exists" error, from
strace output it seems apache does a stat/stat64 on documentroot before
it chroots itself, then does it again before serving pages once request
comes in.

Workaround:
Making empty "web" directory in / tricks apache into starting and servering
requests, as well as php include working as expected.

Re: [Bug 623221] Re: hungarian language phoneme is broken and unusable

2010-08-30 Thread Attila Hammer
Hy Jonathan,

If I understand right, when I compiling Maverick uploaded Espeak 1.44
packaged version with I386 or Amd64 architecture, the compilation
process run following command when building voice metadata, possible
need this command running only for big endian architectures:
$(CURDIR)/platforms/big_endian/espeak-phoneme-data
$(CURDIR)/espeak-data-local $(CURDIR)/espeak-data-local
$(CURDIR)/platforms/big_endian/phondata-manifest

If I remove this line, Espeak compiled right, not have differences with
espeak-data/phondata and target
debian/usr/share/espeak-data/usr/share/espeak-data/phondata file, and
modifyed Espeak package working right with I386 and Amd64 architectures
if I using hungarian voice. But this method is not good for big endian
architectures.
I not known entire: what architectures are big endian architectures
(Power PC, Alpha, etc)?

Samuel, oldest Espeak 1.43 package what method to use when building
voice metadata for little endian and big endian machines?

Attila

[Bug 544139] Re: Active VT tracking can fail at startup

2010-08-30 Thread Damien
I think I have some good news...

I first tried Lennie's PPA, but without patches #5, #6 and #7 (IOW, only
patch #8). I'm actually not exactly sure what patches were applied,
because the "skipping :%d" messages were still there. But the message of
patch #7 was not there any more, which is the important thing (see
#88).

Without that message, the bug reappeared after about 20 reboots and
consolekit went through the retry-loop. However, the delay in the retry
loop being very small (200usec), the loop did not have any effect: all
30 retries failed.

After much messing with the patches, I restarted with a clean source tgz
and applied the patch 08 ONLY. I'm sure this time, 'cause I applied the
patch manually on the sources (!). I also changed the usleep time to
20 (0.2sec). After a few reboots the bug did not reappear, so I
checked the log... only to see that the loop was working! In fact, the
bug was triggered more often now that no extra debug messages were
printed. But every time the loop fixed the problem. Banzai!

Interestingly, only 2 retries were necessary (which means a 0.2 second
delay). Hence the characteristic time on which the bug occurs is [ 6ms <
t < 200ms ]. Here's the log, which is now very compact:

Aug 31 12:52:48 tacto-ppp-01 console-kit-daemon[954]: WARNING: Could not
determine active console
Aug 31 12:52:48 tacto-ppp-01 console-kit-daemon[954]: WARNING: console_fd: 3
Aug 31 12:52:48 tacto-ppp-01 console-kit-daemon[954]: WARNING: tried but failed
Aug 31 12:52:49 tacto-ppp-01 console-kit-daemon[954]: WARNING: console_fd: 12
Aug 31 12:52:49 tacto-ppp-01 console-kit-daemon[954]: WARNING: did not fail ?
after 2 attempts
Aug 31 13:01:49 tacto-ppp-01 console-kit-daemon[864]: WARNING: Could not
determine active console
Aug 31 13:01:49 tacto-ppp-01 console-kit-daemon[864]: WARNING: console_fd: 3
Aug 31 13:01:49 tacto-ppp-01 console-kit-daemon[864]: WARNING: tried but failed
Aug 31 13:01:50 tacto-ppp-01 console-kit-daemon[864]: WARNING: console_fd: 12
Aug 31 13:01:50 tacto-ppp-01 console-kit-daemon[864]: WARNING: did not fail ?
after 2 attempts

If I'm not mistaken no warnings are printed at all when consolekit works well,
and only a few lines are printed when the retry loop saves the day.

Lennie, could you make a nice&clean PPA with your patch #08 only (and
change the usleep delay to 0.2sec)? I'm afraid my packaging skills are
not exactly good enough for everyone to play with my debs.

[Bug 627217] [NEW] AWN has no 'show' option for grouped windows

2010-08-30 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: avant-window-navigator

Enhancement request... adding a 'show' option in the AWN menu would
greatly simplify navigation.

Refer to the attached screenshot. To create the image, I opened several
nautilus windows so they were grouped into a single icon on the AWN
toolbar. Right-clicking on the icon gives a menu that includes a list of
the windows (in this case Ubuntu One, notes, w). If you select one of
the windows from the menu, a side menu appears with options to
minimize/maximize/etc the window, but there is no option to 'show' or
'bring to front', which makes navigating to the desired window
difficult. It's much simpler using the gnome-panel window-list applet,
where you just click on the relevant window to show it.

[Bug 627216] [NEW] default options for dhcpcd in wifi-radar.conf are wrong

2010-08-30 Thread Joseph S
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wifi-radar

The default wifi-radar.conf contains this: (file is regenerated if it is
deleted)

args = -D -o -i dhcp_client -t %(timeout)s

kill_args = -k
pidfile = /etc/dhcpc/dhcpcd-%(interface)s.pid

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you

having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 626657] Re: Flash Crashes in Firefox, after some time

2010-08-30 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 626657

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future, please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about
this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

does this kind of attitude/language serves ubuntu's best interests ?
personally I do not think so. my answer to this 'pearl' was 'sorry

however, if yes, than let it be known to all concerned that ubuntu does

they'll be pure and simple ignored.

[Bug 622898] Re: bzr via etckeeper logs to /etc/.bzr.log in OpenVZ containers

2010-08-30 Thread Martin Pool
It would also be worth checking BZR_HOME and BZR_LOG.

afaics bzr just uses whichever of those variables are set, so I'm fairly
sure there's something outside of bzr causing this; please reopen if
you're sure it's not.

Maybe there's something different between container 123 and 125?

[Bug 625981] Re: RealTek 888 ICH10 not detected by default

2010-08-30 Thread Jeff Peterson
As requested:
1. removed options line from alsa-base.conf file
2. rebooted
3. uploading dmesg output

After doing all that, for some reason my sound is still working. Is
something caching the hardware information? Do I need to do something
else to get back to the non-working state?

[Bug 627201] Re: Reactivate swap file generation by Jasper

2010-08-30 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Proposed fix to re-enable swapfile generation.

Using the same code as before, as we're unable to use a sparse file for
swap (swapon: Skipping file /SWAP.swap - it appears to have holes).

The bad thing is that the first boot now takes more 3 minutes to finish
:-(

As this change is important for all omap related boards (as we're still
using ES1 for OMAP 4), it'd be good to push it and write an exception
for Beta release, otherwise none of the Omap images will be ready for
normal usage. What do you think Oliver?

For the final release we could study other possibilities to have a swap
file and still have a fast installer (maybe creating it while generating
the image).
