[Bug 635138] Re: Apt cache repair "In Progress" text is "Repairing broken deps"

2010-09-10 Thread Sebastian Heinlein
This isn't just a non-dangerous rebuild of the cache/catalog. This can
be an invasive action on the system - it includes installing and
removing software. E.g. "Repairing installed software" would be a better
one.

[Bug 635517] [NEW] Can't browse network

2010-09-10 Thread Gil Seward
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

g...@ubnb:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release:10.10
---
gvfsd-smb-browse ID 1870

Could not display "network:///".
Error: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the
message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or
the network connection was broken.
Please select another viewer and try again.

Networking has been broken in Ubuntu for at least a couple of years, in the
sense that clicking on the Network item in Nautilus did not open up the
network. It was possible to somewhat fix this by editing smb.conf, but it was
quirky, and you could frequently see only Windows computers, not other Linux
computers..
In the early Alpha versions of 10.10 this was entirely fixed, Network opened up
instantly, all I would have to edit was the workgroup name and even that was
not really required. I just downloaded Ubuntu 10.10 Beta [and a couple of later
daily builds] and now it is even more broken, click on network and it hangs for
a couple of minutes and gives a message that the wrong application is being
used. BTW I have installed Samba. Also if I go to System/Administration/Network
Tools, the tools are all broken, I can't even ping a computer that I know the
ip address of. I can ping that computer from Terminal, no problem.
So today I reinstalled the August 25 Daily build, and was ecstatic to see how
nicely and instantly the network opened up,[several windows machines and two
Ubuntu machines] but alas after I updated Ubuntu it was broken again.
I had just talked a small business client of mine into letting me put Ubuntu on
two of his computers, but now I will have to put that on hold until this is
fixed, as access to the network is essential to him.
Will someone PLEASE fix this.
Thanks
Gil Seward

[Bug 631130] Re: In all apps, slow UI since 10.04 install

2010-09-10 Thread intrader
I plan to video each of the problems mentioned - I am using `recordMyDesktop`.
Hopefully, this will be useful. I am having difficulties repeating conditions
reliably.
First, I will records the highlight problem: highlighting should not start
without mouse down (highlighting as mouse moves while down, and quit when mouse
goes up.); problem is that sometimes highlighting starts without mouse being
down - it spontaneously starts highlighting a short instance after click of
mouse.

Please indicate if there is another way to record.

Result so far, unable to record.

[Bug 476817] Re: [i855] [karmic] X freezes with intel 855GM videocard

2010-09-10 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
@Brian Rogers: I tried the last kernel from your ppa
(2.6.35rc4-v9patch1.e467e10) on another laptop with 855, and X wouldn't
start unless "nomodeset" was used.

Could you please reupload 2.6.34rc3-51-generic because that works for
me, but I didn't keep the .deb? Thank you!

The other methods listed in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes won't give me KMS, XV
and 3D simultaneously, so 2.6.34rc3-51-generic is the only way for my
graphics card to work properly.

[Bug 634839] Re: package postfix 2.7.0-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-09-10 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi firebird, thanks for taking the time to report this as a bug and help
us make Ubuntu better.

This one is very confusing. Since all of this runs as root, there should
have been no permission denied on file access. Did you have /etc mounted
readonly, or maybe some hardening on the system, like immutable files on
/etc, that might have layered on top of the normal permissions?

Marking Incomplete, firebird, please respond to the above at your
earliest convenience so I can reopen the bug. Thanks!

[Bug 511001] Re: [i855] Lucid Freeze shortly after X startup (needs KMS blacklist?)

> So the best workaround so far for me is to use the

gives me KMS, 3D and XV with no problems.

Erm, actually that's true for an older kernel that Brian Rogers had uploaded
there: 2.6.34rc3-51-generic
With the last kernel there (2.6.35rc4-v9patch1.e467e10), KMS isn't working and
X will only start in fail-safe mode (vesa).

@Brian, could you please reupload 2.6.34rc3-51-generic because I want to
install it to another laptop with 855 and I didn't keep the .deb? Thank
you!

[Bug 635507] [NEW] Image preview does not refresh after rotation of pictures with nautilus-image-converter

2010-09-10 Thread markusd112
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I am using nautilus-image-converter to rotate pictures directly in
nautilus without opening an image manipulation software. When I select
multiple files in nautilus and start the rotation process, nautilus does
not update the preview images. So an image is still wrong orientated,
but when I double click on it to open it, the rotation has been done
well.

It doesn't help to do the "Refresh" command in the nautilus menu. The
previews aren't updated...

[Bug 633129] Re: mysql-client-5.1 no longer uses readline :(

2010-09-10 Thread Clint Byrum
Looks like the upstream patch here is also required..

http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=35250

I wonder if maybe a backport of 5.1.49 from Maverick would be a better
choice than pushing this into updates, given that Karmic will be EOL in
6 months anyway.

[Bug 634487] Re: t1.micro instance hangs when installing sun java

2010-09-10 Thread Kent Forschmiedt
Linux takes a page fault, and in the process of updating the page tables to map
the new page, it needs to allocate a new "PMD", or mid-level page directory
entry. The PV kernel cannot write its own page tables, Xen has to do that, so a
"multicall" that encapsulates two hypercalls is dispatched to Xen:
* update_va_mapping: Map the PMD page in the guest memory and flush the mapping
cache (TLB)
* mmu_update: Update the contents of the PMD page
Xen returns a fatal error which causes the guest kernel to crash.

The "multicall" scheme does not return the failure status. Most of the
failure paths have no logging, and the log levels are not usually tuned
up enough to show anything.

The next steps are:
Turn up the Xen logging level and repro.
Add logging to all of the failure cases in the hypercalls and load the test
host with the diagnostic Xen build.
Repro and see what we learn.

Some other notes:
* I wonder how easy it is to repro. I wrote some simple test programs and only
got the expected out of memory errors. It may be that the memory has to run out
just in time to need a new PMD. That is trickier than it sounds, because it
depends on the number of virtual pages allocated vs. exactly how many have
actually been touched.
* I studied the memory manager code in the Ubuntu kernel extensively and
compared with other kernels that did not repro the problem. It may be that this
bug exists in many, most or all versions, but needs exactly the right
circumstances to trigger it.
* Good news - the micro is a single-cpu instance, so this is not a race in the
guest and is almost certainly not a race in Xen.
* Some of the warning oopses in the Ubuntu 2.6.35 kernel are similar to this. I
have not studied that yet.

[Bug 635499] Re: Nautilus fails to mount some UDF DVDs properly

2010-09-10 Thread Petar Velkovski
Now I'm trying to mount an UDF formated DVD that is mounted properly. It
is and purchased DVD Video disk. This time everything works as expected.
The disk is mounted and I'm presented with an window asking me what
action I want take next. The default is to open Movie Player.

Some forums state that there are different UDF format versions. I've
read complaints that say that UDF formated DVDs created with Vista are
not accessible under Linux/Ubuntu (as Vista uses some specific UDF
format). I don't remember where, but one guy was claiming that newer UDF
formats store some permission settings and that's why some tweaks have
to be made in /etc/fstab have to be made in order to make this kind of
UDF DVDs accesible to normal users (instead of only to the root user???)
I find this an important hint for where to look for when trying to fix
this bug, moreover because I tried accessing the previous mentioned DVDs
with the last line in /etc/fstab removed (as it was on a cleanly
installed Maverick). I'm getting the same end results, and the only
deference is that when the line is removed, the system mounts the DVDs
in some other directory.

This is what i get when I remove the line and insert another UDF DVDs
that is inacessible.

[Bug 635373] Re: Opening PNG in Inkscape shows nonsense "png GDK pixbuf Input" alert

2010-09-10 Thread ~suv
While technically correct (Inkscape can't edit the PNG file itself (or
any other supported raster image formats), instead the image is linked
or embedded into an empty SVG document structure), the dialog is
confusing.

A better solution would be the reorganization of the 'Open…' and 'Import…'
dialogs:
- open supported vector formats,
- import supported raster image formats,
similar to the blueprint "Sort out Save as vs Export formats"
.

[Bug 493375] Re: oregano crashes with SIGSEGV when trying to run a simulation

2010-09-10 Thread AFarris01
@Jean: In Oregano All I had to do to make to make it crash originally on
Karmic was launch oregano, and create a simple circuit with the
following: a VDC element, a resistor, a voltage probe, and a ground,
connect them all and try to run a simulation. Oregano would immediately
crash. I also substituted other simple elements for the resistor such as
a capacitor, or inductor, with the same result. I honestly never tried
the Oregano samples as I didn't realize they were there.

I no longer have any Karmic systems to test this on, but I can verify
that it now works in Lucid and am very happy for that :)

If need be, I can set up a virtual machine to test this in later, but
I'd like wait on that since I'm actually low on HD space atm :(

Hope that helps!

Aha! This makes more sense. Thanks for clarifying that Przemek.
Confirmed on karmic just now.

Jaunty is 1 month from EOL, and won't be getting any SRU's.

I think simply adding --without-readline to debian/rules for karmic will
fix its cmdline client.

Marking Triaged, and nominating for Karmic. I'm also testing a build
right now to confirm that, if it works I'll submit a merge proposal.

Re: [Bug 619477] Re: App name in panel menu is truncated

2010-09-10 Thread Mark Shuttleworth

This is an awkwardness that we need to refine. We want the menu position
to be constant, and we know that when windows are maximised we'll have
the window controls in there. As a temporary approach we're putting the
truncated first word of the app name in that space, we haven't done a
round of polish on that but renderings / concepts are welcome as
attachments to this bug :-)

solved, currently I use KVM/virsh on a Fedora 13 host (libvirt-

[Bug 614176] Re: [855gm] 2.6.35-14: Invisible Cursor

2010-09-10 Thread Scott Testerman
I also have the invisible cursor problem, but a recent PPA kernel by
Brian Rogers includes a fix. For those having an invisible cursor at
boot, you may wish to briefly test that kernel to see if it fixes the
problem for you. Please be aware that the kernel is primarily intended
to fix Bug 541511, so if you're not suffering other i855 problems then
you will probably want to avoid the test kernel.

The PPA is located here:
https://launchpad.net/~brian-rogers/+archive/graphics-fixes

You should also read through the i855 master bug (above) because it
details other fixes that are/are not working for people with a wide
variety of i855 machines.

[Bug 635499] [NEW] Nautilus fails to mount some UDF DVDs properly

2010-09-10 Thread Petar Velkovski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release:10.10

When I insert an UDF formated DVD Nautilus should automount it, and open
a window presenting the files contained on the DVD disk.

Instead of this, the CD/DVD ROM icon disappears from the Computer
location, there is an icon that appears and instantly disappears in the
Nautilus location tab, and there is no window presented with the DVD
files. It is as if the disk is not mounted at all. But this is not
entirely true.

The DVD I'm trying to read is inserted into an external DVD rom. It's an
ordinary Asus DVD writer inserted into some generic rack (I don't think
this is important, but I'm mentioning it).

This is what dmesg reports after powering the rack:
...
[ 1807.912016] usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4

[ 1809.478427] sr 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg3 type 5

Inserting the UDF formated disk into the DVD reader.

No window is open to present the DVD in nautilus, as if the DVD was not
mounted at all. Before inserting the DVD there is a CD-ROM icon in
Nautilus. Now it's gone too.

But dmesg reports this:

...
[ 2121.133211] UDF-fs: Partition marked readonly; forcing readonly mount
[ 2121.171206] UDF-fs INFO UDF: Mounting volume '050927_1924', timestamp

So the DVD was mounted after all!

Going to /media/cdrom with Nautilus presents an binary file named
Dilbert. It's type is unknown and size unknown also. Permissions reports
that "The permissions of "dilbert" could not be determined"

Trying to scan /media/cdrom using a console:

[Bug 399978] Re: Excessive heat versus excessive parkings

2010-09-10 Thread eggbert

Bummer, the status on this was changed from confirmed to incomplete. Since
the OP has not replied, I'll try to supply the info this weekend if I get some
free time. I have a feeling it will be the same that SolidSlash supplied in the
other bug.

This bug is a show stopper for a huge number of users I reckon, as I
know of a few people who experience the same thing with excessive hear
and/or clicking like crazy.

It is not limited to Ubuntu. Happens with several other distros too
apparently. The worst thing about it, is that i forces me to use
Windows on my laptop... Simply can't use Ubuntu, the laptop becomes hot
right in the spot over the hard drive. Problem does not exist on
windows, so I am stuck with that.

The quickest way this can be fixed is if the feature in the screen
resolution window that let you "manually" select your monitor was put
back where it belongs, or a new GUI was made just for the monitor that
does the same thing. It is not the drivers, its Xorg and also the
fact that this feature was "removed" from Ubuntu several versions back
when it shouldn't have been.

Honestly, this could have and should have been fixed long ago. What
is the problem? Why hasn't this been dealt with in like 2 years?
Don't tell me its not a high priority issue, it is a High Priority
issue because this problem has "prevented" new users from adopting
Ubuntu. This is serious, this a usability issue, and it needs to be
dealt with ASAP.

No other answer is acceptable, its been long enough, get this issue
fixed. Its an embarrassment to the community that this problem has
persisted for so long, and its an embarrassment to LaunchPad that this
bug hasn't been made a high priority so it can finally get fixed.

Pass this onto which even group this needs to go to and have them do
something about this instead of letting the problem molder.

[Bug 401823] Re: Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

2010-09-10 Thread Christian Niemeyer
the * ist just because there is also a file called .xsession-errors.old

if you switch this on/off in your session-properties, in case you want
to view the log file, with this XID-collision flooding, it may happen,
that the .old-file also get's quite big.

maybe the * is too much, but it's not harmfiul for other files. of
course, your version is the exact way to do it. also the ' instead of "
are better.

after installing Ubuntu on a second harddisk on a AMD 64bit computer the
computer has no sound. The computer doesn't load the driver even when force
manually. i.e. sudo modeprobe snd-ctxfi
Computer sound runs in windows, which is on first harddisk and the ubuntu runs
the onboard sound but not the creative card.

Running a uptodate version of ubuntu 10.04.

As I understand it we can either wait for a new kernel or change away

[Bug 561802] Re: [i915] blank screen on Latitude E6410

2010-09-10 Thread Michael Elkins
Dell Latitude E6410, Core i5, 4GB
BIOS A03
Intel Graphics (00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core
Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02))
Ubuntu 10.04

Kernels:
linux-image-2.6.36-020636rc3-generic_2.6.36-020636rc3
linux-image-2.6.35-20-generic-pae 2.6.35-20.29~lucid1

With stock boot params "quiet splash", the backlight comes on, but the
screen is black almost immediately after hitting return in grub2. I can
hear the GNOME sound when gdm starts up, so the machine is still
running, but the screen stays black.

With boot param i915.modeset=0 I can see the kernel message text until X
starts, then the screen goes black with the backlight still on, but the
kernel panics and I see the two flashing numlock and capslock lights
blinking. Machine is unresponsive.

The only kernel that allows me to boot into X so far is linux-
image-2.6.32-21-generic-pae. All newer kernels exhibit the same
behavior described above.

[Bug 583372] Re: Using default schemas included with slapd installation does not work.

2010-09-10 Thread J. Kary
Hi,

I tried running the command sudo dpkg-reconfigure slapd and selected
"yes" to ommit and re-ran the program to select "No" and yes the NEXT
prompt. (This was not clear as the omit part didn't really make sense to
me.)

After I got the database cleared I added core, cosine, inetorgperson and
nis ldif files. The core file was needed (/etc/ldap/schema/core.ldif)
as the DB was now empty.

Now I'm stuck trying to add db.ldif.

$> sudo ldapadd -Y EXTERNAL -H ldapi:/// -f db.ldif
SASL/EXTERNAL authentication started
SASL username: gidNumber=0+uidNumber=0,cn=peercred,cn=external,cn=auth
SASL SSF: 0
adding new entry "cn=module{0},cn=config"
ldap_add: Naming violation (64)

$>

I have the same hw config amd/64 and I'm running 10.04.

Thoughts?

Jason Kary

[Bug 635482] [NEW] 10.10 netbook installer slideshow too narrow

2010-09-10 Thread philip
Public bug reported:

I'm trying the installer for Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition. This is the
September 2nd edition of
  ubuntu-10.10-beta-netbook-i386.iso

There is a nice slide show to view while system files are transferred from my
USB copy of the ISO to the slow 8GB SSD in my netbook (Acer Aspire One 110L).
The slide show appears to have a fixed width in pixels (approx 512px), and that
width is narrow enough to fit nicely on the screen (screen width about 1024
px): good! But the window seems to be un-resizable, and text inside extends
beyond the right margin and gets cut off. Possible fixes, in my idea of
priority order:
1 - better word-wrap in the slide show, or
2 - wider default window width, or
 3 - resizable slide-show window.

Thanks!

My computer is connected on an internet ADSL router and after starting
the computer and longing into Ubuntu automaticaly obtains an ip adress
given by the router's DHCP server. After upgrading the packages
mentioned above and restarting my computer, this doesn't happen any
more. Network manager tries to get an IP adress and then it reports that
there is no network connection.

ifconfig output:

[Bug 635474] [NEW] Stuck trying to fetch update files from the internet

2010-09-10 Thread Victor Costan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I tried to install 10.10 live (desktop i386), and my Internet connection
is not very reliable. The connection went down for a few minutes, and
I'm pretty sure it happened while ubiquity was fetching the updated
package lists -- the status got stuck at "fetching file 2 of 6". I tried
pressing the Skip button, but that did nothing. In the end, I had to
restart the installation process.

** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 635472] [NEW] Battery indicator is not hidden on AC power regardless of settings, and shows an "estimating..." status

2010-09-10 Thread Mariano Draghi
Public bug reported:

When the laptop is on AC power, the battery indicator is not hidden,
regardless of the general settting "only show icon when charging or
discharging".

Besides, the status reported is "Laptop battery (estimating...)".

[Bug 240916] Re: can't configure display resolution (monitor, graphics card) manually in gui

2010-09-10 Thread Vic Main
To quote maJongg..

"I have been hit by the "monitor not detected" problem too, . I think the
problem is very common, but is often mis-diagnosed as a "driver issue".
"The problems has become a virtual show-stopper" It was that for me. I tried to
fix the problem (or at least get around it at least 2 years ago) I was running

Ubuntu 8.x, and ended up with a 800x600 resolution. I recently installed
version 10.04 and tried to resolve this problem again. At least the
generic driver would do 1024x768. I have a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440 with
AGP8X card, and found out how to get around this problem.

I have to echo the sentiments of majongg and TheZorch regarding this
problem hindering the adoption of Linux, it certainly did for me!!. I
spent at least a full day trying to get my monitor to display correctly.
Thanks to the generous help from the forum.

The main problem (let alone the monitor not being recognized), is that the
software wildly guesses at the range of the HSYNC and VSYNC
which it writes to the xorg.conf file.

Thanks, Vic

[Bug 635464] [NEW] "Find it in menu" hint should use X-GNOME-FullName

2010-09-10 Thread Michael Terry
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

I see that a hint about where to find applications after installation
has been added. I like it! But it does one thing wrong. For
applications that provide an X-GNOME-FullName in the .desktop file, it
should be preferred over Name for the app name (at least if the user's
environment is GNOME).

For example, deja-dup. Software Center tells the user to find it in
Applications -> System Tools -> Deja Dup. But it will actually be found
as "Deja Dup Backup Tool".

The touchpad is working fine with windows 7

What is working:

-left klick
-scrolling vertically and horizontally

What isn't working

- using two fingers (pointer is jumping around in a funny way, but touchpad
supports multitouch)
- right klick
- move data from one place to another by holding the left button.

I have attached the information files.

Please let me know, if you need any further information

Thanks a lot!

[Bug 333792] Re: trackpoint settings sometimes lost after suspend/resume

2010-09-10 Thread Ray-Ven
the settings don't get lost!
The trackpoint is recognized as a new trackpoint with default settings. After
reboot your settings should be active again - if they're made permanent.

The device number can be recognized via:
/lib/udev/path_id $(find /sys/devices/platform/i8042 -name name | xargs grep
-Fl TrackPoint | sed 's/\/sys\(.*\)\/name/\1/')

Example:
devices/platform/i8042/serio1/serio3/input/input1 becomes
devices/platform/i8042/serio1/serio3/input/input6
after resume.

This is a kernel bug, isn't it?

Ray

[Bug 635456] [NEW] Printing problems with Scribus

2010-09-10 Thread pbennison
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scribus

I have recently installed the latest version of Ubuntu 10.04LTS to update the
operating system on my computer from the previous version. At the same time, I
also updated the version of Scribus to 1.3.3.13svn. Since then I have had 2
problems with printing from Scribus:
1. Not all the information on the Scribus page is printed - I am losing the
top 2 cm of text, presumably because Ubuntu has pre-set margins for the
printer? I can find nothing in the Ubuntu set-up that will allow me to re-set
the top margin. I need the top margin to be close to the top edge of the page
because it is a publishing programme, and need to be able to use all the space
on the page.
2. When I print a single page, 4 pages are processed by the printer instead of
one, with the last 3 pages being blank. This is despite the setting of copies
at '1'.

My printer is a Brother MFC-7420.

I had none of these problems with the previous version of both Ubuntu or
Scribus. I hope you can help.

[Bug 635447] [NEW] BUG: Error when connecting to a wireless network using ndiswrapper

2010-09-10 Thread Rafael de Andrade Sousa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ndiswrapper-common

When trying to connect to a wireless network, the final handshaking doen't
happen. I can detect the network SSID, insert password e the connection begins,
however it never connects, and a crash message, concerning kernel issues is
shown up.
I had perfect connection in ubuntu 10.04, this issue began when I updated to
the 10.10 beta.

Thanks!

[Bug 556350] Re: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 61s! [events/0:6]

2010-09-10 Thread Kirk Wolff
Francisco,

I've found the solution to this problem. Its simpler than it appears,
the problem is tracking down the source of the problem as linux doesn't
necessarily tell you when a driver fails or locks up.

The problem is this (drum roll) the netjet driver.

The netjet ISDN PCI card and the digium wildcard PCI card happen to use
the same PCI interface chip. This interface chip provides a PCI-bus
abstraction to hardware designers and can be used in many applications
though its marketed to VOIP. Unfortunately for us (or perhaps
fortunately) the PCI interface chip isn't what the DAHDI and netnet
drivers talk to, but the hardware that uses the chip to interface with
the PCI bus. Apparently, due to some poor compliance considerations by
both the netjet and the wildcard designers, they use the default PCI
VID/PID for that chip, perhaps from their development kit. Since netjet
became part of the linux kernel and dahdi has not, linux attempts to
load the netjet driver. The netjet driver thinks its talking to a
netjet PCI card when a Digium wildcard is installed, so it attempts to
initialize it as such and locks the kernel up in the process. In some
cases, and under what conditions I have no idea, dahdi loads first and
netjet doesn't get probed so some people don't see a problem.

In order to prevent the netjet driver from taking over the digium
wildcard, do the following:

1) power-off your machine and remove the digium card
2) Boot your machine
3) Append the following line to the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf:
"blacklist netjet"
4) Power-off your machine and re-install your digium card
5) Boot your machine and check that your digium card isn't sharing interrupts
with any other device in your system by checking /proc/interrupts

- Kirk

[Bug 635439] [NEW] No UEFI boot on Dell Precision M4500

2010-09-10 Thread Jaap-Jan van der Veen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: casper

I burned the Ubuntu 10.10 bèta to a CD-RW (and a DVD+-RW to rule out
problems with media) and found out that the Ubuntu LiveCD won't boot. It
gets to the grub prompt and then... Nothing. The thing I expected to see
is (of course) the kernel loading and eventually the LiveCD environment.

The grub boot command for the installer is:
linux /casper/vmlinuz file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper
only-ubiquity quiet splash --
initrd /casper/initrd.lz

if I remove 'only-ubiquity quiet splash' and replace that with 'debug='
I get no text on the screen whatsoever. It stays blank and after a while
the DVD-ROM station spins downs and nothing's happening, so there isn't
any useful debug output to show.

I'm sorry I can't provide you with more information, I hope there is
some way to debug this problem.

[Bug 628372] Re: Docky freezes when launching application

2010-09-10 Thread Jack Deslippe
@Mikkel - You are right. It is only libzeitgeist-gio that causes the
bug. libzeitgeist-1.0.0 alone is ok. I thought for some reason that
those two packages were inseparable earlier.
