[Bug 655706] [NEW] RFC: Ensure Wi-Fi is not used when copper is connected

2010-10-06 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Just a wishlist item for perhaps Natty. But it would be super if we
could add the logic to disable or at least not auto-connect a wi-fi
connection when there is an existing copper connection, or a copper
connection is found.

For example, when I boot my system with my GigE Network card connected
to my GigE switch and infrastructure, my 802.11n wifi should not also
connect (which, for whatever reason, becomes the default route in and
out of the system).

[Bug 655099] Re: [KMS] White Screen instead of desktop after 10.10 update (ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 card)

2010-10-06 Thread Richard Banks
I just installed xserver-xorg-video-ati and now it looks like it's
loading the driver successfully, regardless of radeon.modeset - I tried
both 0 and 1 and they are looking good.

Not sure if it's relevant, but I am pretty sure I removed xserver-xorg-
video-radeon originally, and not xserver-xorg-video-ati.

Anyway, all of the above should cement your opinion that most of this
bug report is probably inaccurate and the bug reporter is feeding you
porkies - sorry about that.

[Bug 557749] Re: Soundcard not detected Lucid EEEpc 1000He

2010-10-06 Thread David Henningsson
Hmm...the probemask option obviously did not help, so remove it again.
I'm thinking that if you could post a new apport-collect (or alsa-info) when
soundcard is actually working and/or when it has been working and then fails,
perhaps that could give a clue to what might be wrong...but we're beyond the
easy solutions unfortunately.

I second that - the bug still exist (but I got it once, under heavy swapping

icon image doesn't correspond the selected item in dropdown menu).

[Bug 655701] [NEW] "Input/Output error during read" during old ubuntu releases installation

2010-10-06 Thread shankao
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

I'm trying to install hoary (ubuntu 5.04) a virtualbox VM. The problem
arises when I get to the "write changes to partition" stage; I get the

The partition should be correctly written instead.

[Bug 363695] Re: update-apt-xapian-index uses too much CPU

2010-10-06 Thread Tormod Volden
Did you read the bug description? Anyway, it is not productive to use an
old bug report that has a multitude of different issues mentioned, and
most of them are fixed. No developer can work efficiently with such a
report any longer. It focused on the issue of the original bug reporter
which has been fixed and released now. File your own bug report if it is
still sluggish on your system. If only out of respect for all the people
who are subscribed to this report.

** Changed in: apt-xapian-index (Ubuntu)

2010-10-06 Thread Karl Lattimer
@Ilja, that's really interesting, and somewhat puzzling :/ I'll continue
to have a punt at this one until I've got something more solid.

@Ivan, have you restarted your gnome session and/or computer?

Gnome settings daemon *MUST* be restarted in order for the package to
become active.

Hi Lorenzo,
According to your bug report, it says "soundcard not detected". It seems like
your onboard sound card, with Nvidia as HDA Controller and codec: Analog

or can you specify in what way you it seems undetected? Thanks!

[Bug 613381] Re: S3 resume hang when PCI Express wakeups don't clear the PM1 PCI_WAKE_DISABLE bit

2010-10-06 Thread Colin King
SRU Justification:

Impact: It has been observed on a AMD K325 netbook that resumes hang in the
BIOS if PCI Express ethernet is enabled on the 2nd or 3rd resume. Disabling
the ethernet has shown that the resume works flawlessly. This has been tracked
down to the fact that a PCI Express Wake event has occurred and the kernel
is not clearing the PM1 PCIEXP_WAKE_STS bit when coming out of resume.

Fix: Clearing PCIEXP_WAKE_STS on resume fixes the resume hang.

Testcase: Without the patch, resume hangs in the BIOS after 2nd or 3rd resume.
With the patch, resume works flawlessly everytime.

[Bug 653360] Re: DVD icon disappeares when music cd inserted and reappears when removed

2010-10-06 Thread Jeffrey Lee
Hello all

I'm afraid my lack of computing skills has let me down again!

I tried to run 10.10 to see if it cured the problem. I put a Linux Format
magazine DVD in my netbook computer, It has a version of 10.10. I found the ISO
image but do not know what to do next!
I tried closing down to see if it would auto boot. It did and opened the
Magazine. but I still did not know how to run it from the DVD.

I hope that me at least letting you know of the issue helps. I also saw
in the October edition of Linux Format that the problem was vaguely
referred to in an article.

If there is a simple way to use 10.10 live let me know and I'll try again. If
it is hassle don't worry. I'll find a way of ripping CDs on another computer
and copying them to the netbook.
All the best

[Bug 654938] Re: Evolution 2.30.3-1ubuntu6 crashes on startup in Maverick

2010-10-06 Thread Tony Mugan
Thanks, Omer.
Let's see what the options are.

There is also an issue on that machine with likewise version 6 (newest
version, not ubuntu repo) which I am following up with the developer
directly.

On upgrade from Lucid to Maverick, I accepted a config file change accidentally
which was related to pam, I think.
Not sure if it's relevant to the evolution issue but thought I'd throw it into
the mix just in case.

Sorry I forgot the -d, "xrandr --verbose -d :0 > xrandr.white.txt". The
"-d :0" is only needed if you run the command on the text console and
not from X itself.

2010-10-06 Thread Dave Gilbert
Hi Frankie,
Hmm, that fix seems to work for everyone else; I wonder what's different
about your setup.
Can you confirm that printing from eog or some other gnome program (to the same
printer) still works for you?
I see from the earlier messages you had tried rolling back libcairo etc - have
you got everything back to the normal
Maverick set of packages except for my ppa?

i will try to find criteria for the hardware with which we can match it in a

[Bug 655691] [NEW] install proprietary drivers - panel not responding

2010-10-06 Thread Kate Stewart
Public bug reported:

Doing a fresh install of Maverick (release candidate), on Dell Inspiron,
there's a Broadcom STA wireless driver, that needs to be installed from network
directly before wireless can work.

Additional Drivers dialog comes up, and recognizes that the Broadcom STA
wireless driver is needed.
Then working through dialog, you get a panel to Authorize. However clicking
on the Authorize button gives no feedback. Clicking on the cancel button,
gives no feedback.

Eventually the installation happens, but its not clear if its connected
to actions with panel, or is happening due to processing behind the
scenes.

Better feedback is needed when the authorize panel comes up. When
clicking on button, there should be some sort of feedback.

[Bug 655685] Re: rhythmox crashes instead of going to notification area

2010-10-06 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
