[Bug 651007] Re: Does not correctly write resolv.conf

2010-10-06 Thread Pan Yongzhi
My /etc/resolv.conf is a symlink to /etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.conf.

These days I find the quirks. My computer is directly connected to an
ADSL modem using DSL in nm. In this scenario, I get the VPN DNS servers
below the ones from my ISP. Since the ISP provides two servers, I only
get one DNS from my VPN appended to them. I also confirmed this using
PPTP VPN in nm.

Then I get a home router. I connect the router to the modem to dial up.
My computer is behind the router. In this scenario, I get the VPN DNS
servers above the ones from my router. Like below for PPTP:

nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4
nameserver 192.168.1.1

If VPN gives 3 or more DNS servers, then the one from the router will be
pushed out.

It seems nm does the DNS stuff different way it the above scenarios. I
tested that the openvpn command client prepends the DNS servers from the
VPN. So I wonder if nm will do this the same way, preferably prepend
them?

I'm afraid either your CD-ROM device is dying, or the CD you burned is
bad. Can you please verify the ISO image you downloaded following the
instructions at:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

If this looks okay, please try burning again at a slower speed and using
the "Check CD for defects" option at CD boot (press a key when you see
the keyboard icon).

Thanks!

2010-10-06 Thread Alexandros Papadopoulos
Bitten by same bug consistently yesterday - it was impossible to upload
a tiny bug report (9KB).

A workaround seems to be by dumping the output to a local file with

$ apport-cli -f -p

Using fully up to date.Lucid.

[Bug 385545] Re: Smbind config.php points to wrong smarty path by default

2010-10-06 Thread Geordi LaForge
Ok i understand that this package was taken as-is from the debian repo, but in
the debian distribution,
the smarty package put the lib in a dir called 'lib' under
/usr/share/doc/smarty/ (http://packages.debian.org/lenny/all/smarty/filelist).

The problem start on ubuntu because the smarty package are different from
debian package, http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/all/smarty/filelist, in this
package, the smarty lib is directly under the dir /usr/share/doc/smarty/, so
this issue is only un the ubuntu.
Please change the package with a different config file that point on the
correct dir for smarty package.

Simply change on the file config.php this variable:

$_CONF['smarty_path'] = "/usr/share/php/smarty/libs"; #Debian
configuration

TO

$_CONF['smarty_path'] = "/usr/share/php/smarty"; #Ubuntu
configuration

Thank you a lot (when you'll resolve this bug... :-P )

[Bug 580961] Re: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings

2010-10-06 Thread lstefek
I would vote for increasing priority of this bug. Unzip in this version is
really useless and using it is dangerous.
Consider you have large archive in zip format with accented filenames and it
corrupts filenames, so it isn't possible to repair them back!
For smaler zip archives there are some workarounds (for ex. using jar from
fastjar package).

Maverick Release Candidate live CD. The apt-cache policy output would
be essentially identical for Maverick.)

** Affects: erc (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: erc

In the erc which shipped in emacs22, the server buffer' mode line would
contain the server's name, like server.example.com:6667 (which is also
the buffer's name). Now in emacs23 and the newest standalone erc, the
server buffer's mode line always says Unknown.

This is especially problematic when you connect to multiple servers (see
also tangentially bug #160131). Channel names have the form
#chan...@unknown regardless of which server you are connected to, so the
@Unknown suffix really does not add any information at all.
+
+ This is the case at least on Lucid and in the Maverick Release
+ Candidate. Erc hasn't had an update since 2008 and my recollection is
+ that I used to see this on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid as well.

[Bug 655554] [NEW] Dolphin 1.5 can't paste files to remote smb folder

2010-10-06 Thread Dimitris Kalamaras
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dolphin

After upgrading to Kubuntu 10.10 beta, Dolphin can't paste files to
remote smb folders (Windows shares).

Using Konqueror 4.5.1, I can paste the same files into the same remote
smb folder with no problem whatsoever.

Moreover, up to Kubuntu 10.04, Dolphin worked like a charm and copied
any file gracefully (into the same shared folder).

No settings were changed in our file server recently.

Here's my workflow where the problem occurs:

1. Have a Windows PC called 'syros' to serve some folder, i.e. Data
2. Open Dolphin, press Ctrl+L, enter smb://username:passw...@syros/DATA
3. Files are displayed.
4. Copy a local file (i.e. filename.xls) and paste it into the the remote
folder.
5. Dolphin creates a pseudofile but displays a message like this:

"Could not write to file smb://dkalama...@syros/DATA/filename.xls"

The strange thing is that I can still create remote files from Dolphin (right
click while viewing the remote folder > Create New > Text file) and save any of
them.

Any ideas?

2010-10-06 Thread mokabar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdepim

when writing a main in kmail (more specifically in kontact), the
automatic spell checking is switched off after some time of editing. it
works fine for a short time, but at some point when writing or moving
the cursor, it is stopped. to re-enable it, i have to go to
settings->spellchecker and have to disable and then enable `automatic
spell checking enabled by default'.

[Bug 651260] Re: Use X-GNOME-FullName over Name for more comprehensive entries

2010-10-06 Thread Mikkel Kamstrup Erlandsen
Michael Vogt pinged me about this bug, so just chiming in here for
completeness.

I'm pretty sure this wont cause problems for Unity. The one place that
comes to mind is when launching s-c to install an app from the
Availabale group in the apps place. In that case we fire off 'software-
center $pkgname/$name' (as I agreed with Michael at the platform
sprint). If we now get X-GNOME-FullName instead of Name, this might
confuse s-c?

[Bug 655532] [NEW] menu blur inconsistent

2010-10-06 Thread Jacob Litewski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gtk2-engines-murrine

I noticed this after I updated to the newest version in Maverick. The
blur is a really nice touch, but it doesn't span the entire menu length.
If any of the menus are shorter then what's shown in the picture, then
it works as expected. If you guys need any more information, just ask
and I'll gladly provide.

** Affects: gtk2-engines-murrine (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 97251] Re: screen turns off after 20 minutes even when playing in fullscreen

2010-10-06 Thread Hadrien Dussuel
Hi,
i just installed ubuntu of my girlfriend's pc, because i try to convince her to
use it (she has xp...).
The problem is that pc go to sleep while she is watching fullscreen flash
videos.

I remember that i had this problem a long time ago on ubuntu (on my pc) and i
think this is more than a "low" issue.
After a search on internet, i didn't found any other fix than running a command
or clicking on an applet to inhibit the screensaver EACH TIME i want to see a
fullscreen video.

I don't want to be rude but ubuntu want to be a perfect linux desktop and this
bug is really annoying for non-geek people.
Ubuntu has to be capable on running fullscreen videos / flash videos without
disturbing the user. I mean, it need to be automatic because the argument "On
windows, i can watch my videos quietly" is stronger than anything else.

BTW, her pc is running an up-to-date maverick. Do i need to report
something ?
