[Bug 290578] Re: Print PDF Fails
Don - given that this bug has not had an effective update since November 2008, and given that your symptoms are different, you almost certainly have a different bug. Therefore you should report a new bug. However first please test with Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat". If you don't want to install it you can test using the Live CD. I can print the file attached to comment #11 without problems with Ubuntu 10.10 on my Canon i965 (using the BJC 8200 Foomatic driver). >From the huge amount of comments here with people wanting a fix, and the >frequency that this bug would be encountered for the average user, I agree, it >should be higher. A simple task such as resizing a window should work better. Yet, we must sit here and "wish" that it would be fixed in Metacity for Ubuntu, and evidently it's more important that a theme look good than be usable. [Bug 467169] Re: keyboard shortcuts UI issues; fails to set shortcut
These bugs still exist in Maverick. 10.10 Maverick: Open: System | Preferences | Keyboard Shortcuts. Verfify that "Toggle maximization state | ALT+F10" works on a window. Disable the keyboard shortcut with "Backspace". BUG: The UI shows "Disabled", but ALT+F10 still toggles maximization. At this point, the UI shows no mapping for ALT+F10, but the shortcut still maximizes windows. Disable has done nothing. Map "Toggle maximization state" to ALT+MOD4+F10 and verify that it works. Note that ALT-F10 now does nothing, as expected. Disable the keyboard shortcut with "Backspace". BUG: The UI shows "Disabled", but ALT+MOD4+F10 still toggles maximization. At this point, the UI shows no mapping for ALT+MOD4+F10, but the shortcut still maximizes windows. Disable has done nothing. Map "Toggle screen reader" to ALT+MOD4+F10. Disable the keyboard shortcut with "Backspace". Map "Toggle maximization state" to ALT+MOD4+F10. Now, ALT+MOD4+F10 does nothing, and no amount of playing around will get it to do anything. I cannot assign ALT+MOD4+F10 to anything else. It seems that any shortcut that you assign to "Toggle screen reader" gets killed and made useless for anything else. If you try to assign ALT+F11 or ALT+SHIFT+F11 to two functions, it will correctly complain and tell you in the reassignment that one will be disabled. But you can assign ALT+MOD4+F10 or ALT+MOD4+F11 to multiple functions and it won't complain at all. One of the functions might work; the others will be ignored. Map "Toggle maximization state" to ALT+F12 and verify it toggles. Disable the keyboard shortcut with "Backspace". BUG: The UI shows "Disabled", but ALT+F12 still toggles maximization. Map "Toggle shaded state" to ALT+F12. BUG: ALT+F12 still toggles maximization, even though the UI says it should toggle shaded state. Map "Toggle maximization state" to anything other than ALT+F12. [Bug 396015] Re: Invalid range for meters
I would venture the argument that a logarithmic scale would be the best way to approach this. The autoadjusting linear scale looks pretty, but does little to convey useful information as to actual utilization or throughput and is such just plain confusing. I think most users are probably interested in getting an idea as to the throughput of the network or disk. [Bug 647270] Re: package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
OK, I'm now on 10.10 and this issue appears to have been resolved ultimately. I believe the issue is that my graphics card probably never should have existed in our plane of reality. Even under Windows driver support for it was nigh nonexistent, so I suppose I should not have been so surprised by its absence in Linux as well. ASUS AH3650 SILENT/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 3650 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X HDCP Ready Video Card When this card came out pretty much everyone in their right mind had switched to motherboards with PCI Express slots. All of ATi/AMDs drivers for this range of chipsets presume a PCI Express installation. But someone at either ASUS or SAPPHIRE, possibly both as they each offer a version of this graphics card, came up with the brilliant idea of offering this as an AGP card for those such as myself who had aging hardware that just needed a good graphical kick in the pants. I was happy to grab it as a replacement for my old AIW Radeon 8500DV. But alas, it was never quite what I expected. So I've ordered new hardware and will be putting together a new system within the next week as my primary Ubuntu workstation. Once that's done this system will be relegated to file serving duty using FreeNAS or something instead. Ultimately fglrx doesn't like this graphics card and neither does anything else. I imagine once it is done, this bug can be marked fix released, and 2.4.3 can be backported to at least Lucid. ** Changed in: cheetah (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: cheetah (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium -- cheetah 2.0.1 is incompatible with python 2.6 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/599308 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 609716] Re: Ubuntu stops responding
I am experiencing a similar issue with Ubuntu 10.10 installed on my system. It seems to be rather random, but happens due to clicking things with the mouse - whether icons, on-screen buttons or menu options. It also happens when dragging or resizing windows or clicking their scrollbars. The system will just hang, frozen, indefinitely. I found out accidentally that by tapping the power button on my system a shutdown menu appears and the mouse is magically available again. A minor caveat... Now this is an extremely cheap, rather basic optical mouse that I got somewhere for around 10 bucks. I have suspected for a couple of weeks that the left mouse button may be going bad. Sometimes using the button would achieve nothing at all, while in some programs what was intended as a single click was interpreted as a double click instead. So I'm going to replace the mouse and hope that solves the issue. [Bug 663672] [NEW] won't mount NFS mounts with space in the name
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: autofs5 Using the auto.net file to mount NFS mounts on the local network. One of the machines (a NAS) has a number of similarly named exports with spaces in the name. autonfs appears to only see the name upto the first space. The awk script in /etc/auto.net that parses the output of showmount doesn't consider that there may be spaces in the export name. For example, the Network Recycle Bin's $ showmount -e korby Export list for korby: /Qweb /Qusb /Qrecordings /Qmultimedia /Qdownload /Public /Photos /Network Recycle Bin 4 /Network Recycle Bin 3 /Network Recycle Bin 1 /Media /Documents /DVD_rip Turns into $ /etc/auto.net korby -fstype=nfs,hard,intr,nodev,nosuid \ /DVD_rip korby:/DVD_rip \ /Documents korby:/Documents \ /Media korby:/Media \ /Network korby:/Network \ /Network korby:/Network \ /Network korby:/Network \ /Photos korby:/Photos \ /Public korby:/Public \ /Qdownload korby:/Qdownload \ /Qmultimedia korby:/Qmultimedia \ /Qrecordings korby:/Qrecordings \ /Qusb korby:/Qusb \ /Qweb korby:/Qweb This prevents autofs from mounting any of the korby shares as it finds a duplicate mount (let alone, the mount it thinks it's a duplicate of is invalid as well). [Bug 350329] Re: gnome-session-properties dialog is far too small
We find out Bug#350329 just before we plan to post this bug report which described almost the same situation as we met, so we post it here as an reinforcing report. What we want to emphasize is that the status under Chinese circumstance, maybe the same as Asian characters, is worse than under English environment. subject: to keep the windows of gnome-session-properties opened with an optimal width when first clicked. This bug report was posted originally by xenomorph0525 on 2010/10/16 23:00:22. Its url is : http://www.ubuntu-tw.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=18660 I help translate it into English and post here. This report is related to the width of the windows of application gnome- session-properties. The 1st screenshot was taken from ubuntu 10.10 with English language as default. http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/7261/1010e1.png This is almost the same as that one sent by Jack Wasey in Comment 1 for bug 350329 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/350329/comments/1 The 2nd screenshot was taken from ubuntu 10.10 with Traditional Chinese language as default. http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/8560/1010c1.png Because the length of the Chinese sentence becomes so short that, Not like under English environment, it becomes so narrow in width and one hardly take a clear look of the items inside the windows without dragging the windows wider. Sometimes it takes too much time to aim at the edge of the windows and drag it to a comfortable size with the pointer of the mouse. It becomes very unconvenient to all users with Traditional Chinese as default local language. It should be wonderful if you are so kind to keep the windows opened with a reasonable size when first initiated. -- gnome-session-properties dialog is far too small https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/350329 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Checking the debug window, these are the last messages for butterfly: >>> POST /abservice/abservice.asmx HTTP/1.0 Content-Length: 1519 Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive SOAPAction: http://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook/ABFindAll Host: contacts.msn.com:80 Accept: text/* User-Agent: gnet/0.1 (Linux i686) Connection: Keep-Alive Cache-Control: no-cache Content-Type: text/xml; charset=utf-8 Accept-Encoding: gzip http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"; xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"; xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/";>http://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>http://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>996CDE1E-AA53-4477-B943-2BE802EA6166http://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>falsehttp://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>Initialhttp://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>http://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>falsehttp://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>t=9xCdFY6ARAad22feO5Sqed4j13RAYGkqdRKTAVZ0QoqR!uqnD2AM8UrgP2wuGwlw5PkavEKGXLq9SS!gomhwcNXVts6RgM!X3aJqqFmCKDWtdwoKwkUA*ZJ4C5xKw!zIx7sa0!L7BY!eY$&p=9xjATSClgG2kOi0KVdQNsQFsqqGzwFIWh3rui4kRMCcnftlp8Ctuh1SRVwIxem1A4x7mqjItHZhnuEijWP*NGwmny2ZUicbdSbLcIXyIuu8wBR2xT8!1JihxBU3P1C*jPM373hiDbuGagvBnhVgzIKrsPWYFA*YOLdUDqWNDk9Xi9uW9u8WQPGtJledRTpiUBrEjxr9r62hE*eOlz5*m3Nnw$$http://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>----Fullfalse0001-01-01T00:00:00.000-08:00 >>> POST /abservice/SharingService.asmx HTTP/1.0 Content-Length: 1606 Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive SOAPAction: http://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook/FindMembership Host: contacts.msn.com:80 Accept: text/* User-Agent: gnet/0.1 (Linux i686) Connection: Keep-Alive Cache-Control: no-cache Content-Type: text/xml; charset=utf-8 Accept-Encoding: gzip http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"; xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"; xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/";>http://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>http://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>996CDE1E- AA53-4477-B943-2BE802EA6166http://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>falsehttp://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>Initialhttp://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>http://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>falsehttp://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>t=9xCdFY6ARAad22feO5Sqed4j13RAYGkqdRKTAVZ0QoqR!uqnD2AM8UrgP2wuGwlw5PkavEKGXLq9SS!gomhwcNXVts6RgM!X3aJqqFmCKDWtdwoKwkUA*ZJ4C5xKw!zIx7sa0!L7BY!eY$&p=9xjATSClgG2kOi0KVdQNsQFsqqGzwFIWh3rui4kRMCcnftlp8Ctuh1SRVwIxem1A4x7mqjItHZhnuEijWP*NGwmny2ZUicbdSbLcIXyIuu8wBR2xT8!1JihxBU3P1C*jPM373hiDbuGagvBnhVgzIKrsPWYFA*YOLdUDqWNDk9Xi9uW9u8WQPGtJledRTpiUBrEjxr9r62hE*eOlz5*m3Nnw$$http://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>http://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>http://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>http://www.msn.com/webservices/AddressBook";>Messenger Received error code 500 (Internal Server Error) from contacts.msn.com:80 Transport Error :500 Received error code 500 (Internal Server Error) from contacts.msn.com:80 Transport Error :500 I noticed that in the past other clients got this error and solved it by contacting omega.contacts.msn.com instead of contacts.msn.com, but I might be mistaken. [Bug 608382] Re: Maverick images burned to usb key on lucid fail to boot - different syslinux version
I created an image of maverik desktop 10.10 i386 in a maverik desktop amd64 installation. When booting I got an error message unknown keyword not COM32RIMAGE. I tried to create the same 10.10 image but in a karmic i386 desktop installation with the same result. Is there a workaround to create this image correctly? I thought the problem was creating a 10.04 image from 10.10 but it seems that you can't create a 10.10 from 10.10 :( -- Maverick images burned to usb key on lucid fail to boot - different syslinux version https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/608382 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
