[Bug 572878] Re: Lucid LTS Live CD installer hangs after keyboard selection (Step 3)

2010-10-28 Thread Matthias Sitte
Finally I found a (the?) solution to the problem: The disk partitioner
had some problems with the partitioning of one of my HDDs. When
unplugging /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc the installer (10.04 and 10.10) would
run nicely. After creating a new partition table (backup first!) and
then re-creating the partitions I ran the installer again and
successfully completed the installation without any complications. Don't
know where this came from as to my knowledge I only used *nix tools to
partition the drives. Hope this helps.

[Bug 660299] Re: Missing dependency

2010-10-28 Thread Gard Spreemann
@platypuss72: I'd be happy to help. If you have added my PPA then you
should be getting the patched version without having to apply the patch
yourself. You can check that by running "aptitude show gpodder" (or find
it somewhere in your favorite graphical package manager).

If the Version field says 2.6-1ubuntu0gspr1, you have my patched
version. In that case I must have missed some icon somewhere, and it
would be nice if you could run gpodder from a terminal and show the
output here. Hopefully I can then extend my patch.

If the Version field does not end with "gspr1", then you don't have the
correct version, and we should take the rest over private e-mail (see my
Launchpad profile) so at not to annoy the others.

2010-10-28 Thread Jacob Peddicord
Was able to reproduce most of it, and I know where the problem lies. The
issue is that jobservice doesn't expect to be running in recovery mode
and "forgets" about it after launching, and when a service reports it is
in recovery mode it doesn't know what to do.

[Bug 654429] Re: evulution leaks memory

2010-10-28 Thread BigBadBassMan
I have installed tracker-dbg and made a valgrind run of evolution.

Strangely, evolution does not always eat up all available memory. During
this run, it kept at around 4GB Virtual and 16% Real (making it 1.3GB of
real RAM on my 8GB machine.) Don't know if this has something to do with
valgrind.

Although, I have noticed before that time between start of Evolution and
unresponsiveness of the system (due to lack of free RAM) greatly vary.
Seems to be dependent on the number of new messages, or the last time
Evolution opened up a Mailbox.

Nevertheless, 1.3GB RAM usage just for 2 POP Accounts and 3 IMAP
Accounts as well as ~10 CalDAV Calendars far too much.

[Bug 667641] Re: sony vaio CPU overheats

2010-10-28 Thread Stuart Crouch
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

I have a sony vaio C1Z that I installed ubuntu 10.10 on. I'm using the
32 bit ubuntu 10.10 standard desktop edition.

The CPU temperature starts out at about 40 C and slowly creeps its way up to
70 C. After 72 C the PC shuts down, I assume some safety system on the
motherboard is kicking in.
On the Windows XP partition the fans become louder as the CPU temperature
rises. The fans do not change speed at any point when ubuntu is running so I
suspect this is the cause.

I can confirm that I'm running KUbuntu 10.04.1, KDE 4.5.1, OpenOffice

The encrypted home directory is definitely looking like it could be a

The bug status was updated over at
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=621352, due to a lack of response.
This link was obtained from the gnome-bugs link on the Banshee row.

If you wish to amend/revert this status, please test with 1.8.0 and post your
findings over at the upstream GNOME bug tracker. Banshee 1.8.0 is available in
maverick-proposed, natty, and the Banshee PPA (ppa:banshee-team/ppa) for Karmic,

[Bug 452323] Re: kvm disabled in bios (was: Unable to start EUC instances - no supported architecture for os type 'hvm')

2010-10-28 Thread Alex Baeza
I am having the same issue, and after several hours of research spread
across several days, I've come to this bug.

I agree with mohanv in that it should not have let me setup the node if
it won't work with UEC.

If kvm requires hardware supported virtual machines hvm, (as indicated
here: http://open.eucalyptus.com/forum/problem-node-registration), then
I would like to request that the node installation process either:

A) Prevents you from installing and gives you an explanation (you hardware is
not compatible: hvm required for kvm)
OR
B) The node installation asks if you would like to use xen.

Everyone,

I think my issue with OpenOffice.org crashing has been solved. I've
been running the program for the last week, non-stop without any

With this error being fixed for me, could it be said that the home
folder encryption is the culprit here? Is there a work-a-round in the
works for this or is there some requirement from Oracle that doesn't
want the home folder encrypted?

John

As of today, the dictionary app. is working. dict.org must be back up and

If I have any further problems I may have to try it as I use this app. on a

Thanks

- headphone jack sense doesn't work (neighter did in lucid)
- brightness osd isn't adjusted right in the way mentioned above (it was
adjusted in lucid)
- hibernate fails very often (didn't do so in lucid)

[Bug 668186] [NEW] automatic detection not working

2010-10-28 Thread Hanky
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ocrfeeder

1) Ubuntu 10.10, 32-bit
2) 0.6.6-3
3) expected: automatic dtection of text and images

4) ocrfeeder starts the detecting routine, the main window turns grey
after a few seconds, but detection never finishes, cpu load is
constantly high (96-100%), the process has to be terminated manually.

After terminating the process via keyport, this message appears:

^CTraceback (most recent call last):

The application is still usable; manually setting the detection areas
and ocring works flawlessly

[Bug 668184] [NEW] Flickr publishing resolutions too limited

2010-10-28 Thread gdi2k
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: shotwell

I find the resolution options for publishing to flickr too limiting.
Current choices:

 - Medium 500 x 375
 - Large 1024 x 768
 - Original Size

Many of my contacts have monitors 1650 or 1920 pixels wide and view the
slideshows full screen, so it seems like a shame not to be able to offer
a higher resolution than 1024 x 768 without uploading the full image (8
MB+ on recent SLRs).

The "Export Photo" dialog has a nice custom pixel entry field - would be
nice to have the same for Flickr exports.

[Bug 668185] [NEW] Overscan Compensation not saved to nvidia-settings-rc

2010-10-28 Thread hackel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

When choosing a display device and setting the Overscan Compensation to
a specific value, it is not saved in the .nvidia-settings-rc file. As a
result, this setting does not persist after a reboot. I have tried
manually adding this option to .nvidia-settings-rc:

0/TVOverScan[DFP-1]=32

This seems to have no effect, however, and the setting is erased the
next time nvidia-settings is run. I am using an LCD display via HDMI as
opposed to TV-Out so this may not even be correct.

Running 10.10 with nvidia-settings 260.19.12-0ubuntu1~xup (from
ubuntu-x-swat PPA).

FYI--I assume this is a dupe of bug #296418.

[Bug 661327] Re: User interface stutters / laggy when mouse NOT moving

2010-10-28 Thread H3g3m0n
Actually the tsched=0 option didn't fix it %100 for me, but it doesn't
happen around every hour anymore.

It's more like after 6 or so hours so it's not really a major issue.

I'm guessing how problematic it is, might be different depending on the
power of the system.

According to: http://www.pulseaudio.org/wiki/Modules
"tsched: Use system-timer based model (aka glitch-free). Defaults to 1
(enabled). If your hardware does not return accurate timing information (e.g.
Creative sound cards) you can try to set tsched=0 to enable the interupt based
timing which was used in 0.9.10 and before."

Not sure why Xorg would be effected. Possibly they are using the same
hardware timer since it's onboard and whatever pulse is doing breaks it
occasionally? Otherwise maybe the CPU is being raped by Pulse Audio
dealing with an out of control timer or a bug in the scheduling code,
and Xorg is slowing down as a result. It doesn't report %100 of my CPU
being used but it does seem to cause some kind of processor storm with
heaps of ~%70 processor bursts across all cores (maybe they are %100
bursts but for a time period shorter than whatever the CPU usage sample
time is).

3. Press close
4. Press "Apply System-Wide" on the dialog that pops up.
5. Bring focus to the authentication window by clicking on the window header:

[Bug 667986] Re: Disk image type defaults to raw since 0.7.5-5ubuntu27.5

2010-10-28 Thread EAB
It seems to be I missed that security notice. ;)

Without the security notice it is impossible to understand what changed by
reading only the changelog.
There is no link to the security notice in the changelog and the available
links in the changelog don't contain any words about changed default behavior.
So for future upgrades I simply have to search in the security notices to get
know of any changes to?

[Bug 564459] Re: USB devices not detected when hotplugged

2010-10-28 Thread Tomasz Konefal
I had this issue also. In my case, there was a glitch at some point
during a fresh installation. Even though the root drive on my laptop
/dev/sdaX was where / and swap were set up, the fstab file listed the /
partition as mounted on /dev/sdb1. i have no idea how the system managed
to boot with this incorrect configuration. the fix for me was to use
"sudo blkid" to get the UUID of the / partition and then used that to
correct the fstab file to mount the correct partition (/dev/sda1) to /.

i discovered this when trying to mount a flash drive (which was
detected) using gnome's Disk Utility from the System|Administration
menu. I had an error when trying to mount the flash drive partition from
there that said there was a helper failure claiming /dev/sda1 was
already mounted at /.

[Bug 660655] Re: time command doesnt recognize it's own arguments

2010-10-28 Thread AFarris01
ok... I think I figured out why it's doing this, and I'm not sure
whether or not to treat this as a bug anymore.

Calling 'time' explicitly (i.e. /usr/bin/time [args]) does actually work
properly. For example, calling /usr/bin/time --version yields:
GNU time 1.7

Apparently 'bash' has a built-in command called 'time' that serves a similar
purpose, and I didn't see it my first read-through, but the man-page actually
mentions this caveat:
---
Users of the bash shell need to use an explicit path in order to run
the external time command and not the shell builtin variant. On system
where time is installed in /usr/bin, the first example would become
/usr/bin/time wc /etc/hosts
---
I still feel this is is an issue, but unless we could disable/override the bash
builtin, i don't see how.

[Bug 666618] Re: evince doesn't include synctex support in 10.10

2010-10-28 Thread Uriel (CP)
Oh, and an advice: rather than use Okular (which I have in the past),
try using texworks instead. It uses the same rendering engine as evince,
and lets you easily perform reverse-search.

[Bug 666910] Re: Can not install addons

2010-10-28 Thread RedSingularity
Lets try downloading from a fresh account. We will remove it when done.

In a terminal:

useradd test
passwd 123456

Then:

su test
ENTER PASSWORD WHEN PROMPTED

then under the new user run

wget https://addons.mozilla.org/en-
US/firefox/downloads/latest/383/addon-383-latest.xpi?src=search

To see if it downloaded properly run:

ls /home/test

And see if the downloaded file is listed there.

[Bug 667104] Re: Screen distortion with compiz cube rotation and recommended nvidia driver

2010-10-28 Thread Colin Church
Problem is fixed by running "System/preferences/appearance/visual
effects" then 'none'---then 'normal' and 'keep settings' then close

Re-setting requirements in compiz settings manager gives correct display

This work-around is only useful on a per-session basis.-- A computer
restart re-introduces the "bug"

[Bug 668168] [NEW] Unable to print from xword

2010-10-28 Thread Brett Presnell
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xword

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10 I am unable to print crosswords from
xword. Whenever I try, a dialogue box pops up with the message

Printing libraries are not installed. Please install the Python
wrapper for gnomeprint.

However, aptitude tells me that the package python-gnomeprint does not
exist. What package is required and why isn't it installed as a
dependency?
