[Bug 606341] Re: dpkg in uninterruptible sleep
I have had the same bug. I did some troubleshooting and it only occurs when I am doing heavy disk activity (potentially on another volume). Whenever this occurs, if I try to issue a "sync" it also hangs for a very long time. Maybe dpkg tries to sync the discs? In any case, if I wait until the disk activity ends, and the system is idle, then I issue a sync, I have to wait a long time (sometimes 10 minutes) for the sync to complete. Once it's done, the dpkg gets unstuck and continues. Of course, on a heavily-loaded system it's not an option to wait until the sync completes, so this bug needs to be fixed. It's very annoying. BTW I tried the 2.6.37rc1 from kernel.org, and I had the same problem. -- dpkg in uninterruptible sleep https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606341 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Attempting to install the most recent version of libapache2-mod-wsgi on Maverick attempts to install python3. The dependencies rules clearly attempted to allow it to be installed with python2.6 but fail. I discussed this with Barry Warsaw and he commented: """ The packaging isn't technically broken, but it doesn't conform to the rules we've established on the debian-python team for specifying Python 2 and Python 3 packages. We decided that we were going to have two separate stacks, but they've conflated the Python 2 and Python 3 dependencies from this line in the debian/control file: Depends: apache2, apache2.2-common, libc6 (>= 2.4), libpython2.6 (>= 2.6), libpython3.1 (>= 3.1), python (>= 2.6), python (<< 3.2) So given that, it does make sense that installing libapache2-mod-wsgi would bring in libpython3.1. What they should have done is created a second binary package for the Python 3 dependent binary. The other issue is the naming convention. Generally we like things like python-foo and python3-foo for the two separate binaries, so this package should probably be renamed python-libapache2-mod-wsgi and python3-libapache2-mod-wsgi. [Bug 557429] Re: array with conflicting changes is assembled with data corruption/silent loss
Hi iMac. Thanks for sharing your use case. I think this is a race condition that has only come to light recently because the startup and volume management has basically caused the number of things happening to remain consistent and small enough where the event-count gets incremented equally on both systems, and so you get this corrupted diverged volumes scenario. Its just as likely that you'd accidentally torch the changes that you want by writing from the older disk to the newer one as it is that you'd merge the two and hit this silent data loss. I don't think offline replication between two separate machines is really what RAID1 is for, even if it did work at one time. The focus is on replicating data onto two disks, on a single system. Still I think saving users from accidental data corruption is a useful feature, and should be specified and added *as a new feature*. Since the current documentation and implementation do not define any behavior for this diverged RAID1 scenario, it needs to be specified clearly, precisely what the expected behavior would be, and then implemented as such. -- array with conflicting changes is assembled with data corruption/silent loss https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/557429 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 672850] [NEW] Can't use Bluetooth HSP/ HFP input when using A2DP output
That's not the point. I CAN switch the profile, but it is not practically usable. On other OS (including smartphones): A call comes in, I click Accept and take the call. On Ubuntu/Pulse: A call comes in I click Accept and then hurry to find the sound menu, the hardware tab, the profiles dropdown and change the profile -- by then the caller has dropped since she couldn't hear me. [Bug 672888] [NEW] Screensaver lock asks for password 2 times
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver When I was using Lucid, the screensaver when locking my screen would ask for the password 2 times. After the first time of entering it, the black would go away for about 1 second, and I'd see my desktop followed by it turning black again and prompting me to enter my password again. Then it would unlock. After reinstalling with Maverick 10.10 64-bit, it has been doing the same thing up. I used the ubuntu alternate installer (for my raid0 setup), I told it to encrypt my /home directory as well. Instead, I get a folder in my home with the name Private encrypted. It is pretty useless. I didn't know Ubuntu was not using LUCS and wouldn't encrypt my entire /home partition, but next time, I will make sure that that is what I get. I just suspected that this encryption ubuntu is using might have something to do with me having to enter the password twice. I hope this can get resolved. I will provide anymore information needed. Thank you. This was caused by a (non-apt) piece of software creating a directory called /usr/local/bin/gcc which was apparently confusing gcc into prepending /usr/local/bin to all its search paths. -- gcc fails with "selected multilib '.' not installed" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/672847 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 672884] [NEW] org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply messages when trying to interact with syncdaemon via u1sdtool
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client While trying to add a folder to Ubuntu One using u1sdtool, I noticed that I kept getting these dbus errors... finally I tried u1sdtool -q and that failed to actually stop the syncdaemon. So I killed off the syncdaemon manually and tried restarting but this is what happened: blade...@klaatu:~/development/checkbox/jobs$ u1sdtool --start Oops, an error ocurred: Traceback (most recent call last): Failure: dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. The dbus timeout errors are the same ones I got previously when I tried to do ANYTHING with u1sdtool while syncdaemon was running. Unfortunately, I think the only way to get a working system again is to reboot, which not an optimal fix for whatever is causing this problem. First, this is what happened when I tried subscribing a folder to be synced: blade...@klaatu:~/development/checkbox/jobs$ u1sdtool --subscribe- folder=/home/bladernr/Notes/ Oops, an error ocurred: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/twisted/internet/gtk2reactor.py", line 270, in run self.__run() File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/ubuntuone/syncdaemon/tools.py", line 92, in parse_reply *message.get_args_list())) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/twisted/internet/defer.py", line 345, in errback self._startRunCallbacks(fail) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/twisted/internet/defer.py", line 424, in _startRunCallbacks self._runCallbacks() --- --- File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/twisted/internet/defer.py", line 441, in _runCallbacks self.result = callback(self.result, *args, **kw) File "/usr/bin/u1sdtool", line 124, in d.addErrback(lambda r: show_error(r, out)) File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/ubuntuone/syncdaemon/tools.py", line 794, in show_error raise error.value dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. Then this: blade...@klaatu:~/development/checkbox/jobs$ u1sdtool -s Oops, an error ocurred: Traceback (most recent call last): Failure: dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. Then this: blade...@klaatu:~/development/checkbox/jobs$ u1sdtool -q ubuntuone-syncdaemon stopped. Though a ps axf showed that ubuntuone-syncdaemon was still running. So I killed it using kill -9 then when I tried restarting, I got the error mentioned above at the beginning of this narrative. [Bug 672878] [NEW] PST import no longer available after upgrade to Maverick
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Have been using evolution quite a while (since karmic) and imported a number of outlook pst files since then smoothly. I always used the standard import procedure in evolution (file -> import -> forward -> "import single file" -> forward -> selected file -> selected "outlook personal folders" as file type -> forward -> select location etc... I am now running evolution 2.30.3-1ubuntu7 with evolution-plugins 2.30.3-1ubuntu7. When I follow the procedure above the file type "outlook personal folders" is not listed anymore, while the other types such as "evolution csv", mozilla csv", "outlook csv" do appear. The pst file I am trying to import definitely is importable which I confirmed on a fresh install of lucid 10.04.1 in a virtual box. Furthermore I checked plugin settings in evolution. Plugins such as "mail-to-task" are listed and checked (i.e. the package "evolution- plugins" seems to work), however there is no plugin "Outlook PST import" listed within the evolution plugin manager (but it used to be in the lucid and karmic versions of evolution). [Bug 373367] Re: Pointer goes offscreen on non-rectangular dual-head
@Alexey A. Kiritchun: If I position the blank window at x=0, y=0 (my void is in the top-left corner of the virtual desktop), I can still move my mouse cursor between the window and the screen edge (into the void). If I position the window at x=-1, y=-1, the mouse cursor gets stuck at the edge and I need to kill the program to release the cursor. Can this be fixed? Also, if I click open a menu (the main menu, any application or context menu), my cursor can then enter the void. (Perhaps the window stops getting events if a menu is open?) Is it possible to prevent the cursor from entering the void in this case? [Bug 557429] Re: array with conflicting changes is assembled with data corruption/silent loss
I use RAID1 everywhere, and I have seen both loose SATA cables and BIOS'es that are not set with enough delay for drives to spin up both lead to degraded RAID1 scenarios, so I am worried about the overall impact of this bug. My current use case is not one of these, but might be one used by anyone leveraging the flexibility of eSATA and RAID1 for replication across systems. My current use case is that I have two laptops (one work, one personal) and I use RAID 1 to a disk attached by eSATA ports on each to keep a series of LVM volumes (home, virtual machines, etc.) synced between the devices. Typically my work laptop was the master, and whenever I plugged a newer external image into my personal laptop pre-boot, it would auto-rebuild on boot. My RAID1 was created with three devices (n=3), but I am not sure that actually affected the way it chooses to handle degraded disks, except that I suppose it is *always* degraded with only 2 of 3 disks ever active on one system. I had to modify the original Intrepid udev when I first set this up, I believe to avoid some delay or prompt when starting degraded, and my changes are as follows: #Original Intrepid (I believe) left commented in my custom 85-mdadm #SUBSYSTEM=="block", ACTION=="add|change", ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}=="linux_raid*", \ RUN+="watershed /sbin/mdadm --incremental --run /dev/%k" # My current udev from current custom /etc/udev/rules.d/85-mdadm SUBSYSTEM=="block", ACTION=="add|change", ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}=="linux_raid*", \ RUN+="watershed /sbin/mdadm --assemble --scan" Looking at the current /lib/udev rules, there appears to be little change that would have any effect SUBSYSTEM=="block", ACTION=="add|change", ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}=="linux_raid*", \ RUN+="/sbin/mdadm --incremental $env{DEVNAME}" However, now on my home laptop, whenever I bring a new image from work, it starts up with both images active and I have a corrupted disk. Every time. Only since 10.10. Soo, I am now always logging in before attaching my eSATA, failing the local RAID1 disk and removing it, stopping the array and starting it degraded with the external one and re-adding internal. It's not really something I can continue to do efficiently. I was considering upgrading my raid superblock from v0.9 to v1.2 .. but from this bug report I am not sure that will help me. There is some sort of regression here from my perspective. If I can change my udev to work again, great; Skimming through the thread it doesn't appear that I have an actual workaround. It just stopped working. If I ever start my laptop up with an old eSATA image on my current RAID1 laptop image, I am screwed, and my home directory of that has survived many debian and now ubuntu distros and various hardware upgrades might actually come to an end. -- array with conflicting changes is assembled with data corruption/silent loss https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/557429 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 672873] [NEW] Users and Groups fails to launch
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools Trying to launch the Users and Groups - the window bar shows a window (but nothing on screen) for the users and groups, then it disappears. If I try to launch users-admin from a terminal I get the following error: "GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.gnome.system-tools.users' is not installed aborting... Aborted" This is on a new install on a Mac Powerbook G4 17" 1.3GHz system. Ubuntu 10.10 for PowerPC installed from CD. This occurred from first login, and after all updates were applied. [Bug 672874] [NEW] "Show Current Layout" image is showing "VoidSymbol" too
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config In the file, we can explicitly tell the system to not produce anything with a particular key by using "VoidSymbol". It works fine, however, the "Show Current Layout" image also displays "VoidSymbol" or just "…" when there isn't enough space. If "VoidSymbol" is not used, the system checks the next highest keyboard layout in the list for a corresponding value, something like: if layout2:key5 is empty then produce layout1:key5. At least this is how it always happen on my end using Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop 64-bit and Ubuntu 10.10 UNR 32-bit. I think the system when generating the "Show Current Layout" image should just leave "VoidSymbol" as empty, not displaying "VoidSymbol" or "…". I attached two screenshots for reference. ** Affects: xkeyboard-config (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- "Show Current Layout" image is showing "VoidSymbol" too https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/672874 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 670121] Re: IRC commands not working in empathy (Maverick)
My bug was marked as a duplicate of this one, which is fine, if you add the other commands that are not supported to the bug and thus the fix. "/msg" "/raw" "/qoute" Additionally this one is marked as incomplete and needing info, but I see no question. I went to the bug at gnome, but I also do not see any questions to be answered. Pedro, what questions need to be answered? This bug is a deal breaker, I can not login into FreeNode with my registered nick name because I can not use the "/msg" command to verify the nick with my password. What good is it for me to put in a nickname and password on the IRC account setup when it does not even properly log me in. I want this bug fixed, so what information do you need. If this bug continues to get ignored then I am using Xchat, because empathy can not handle the responsibilities of a IRC chat client. I will also be pushing for Xchat to get put back into Ubuntu, and will point at this bug for the reason. #1: Thanks Pander. The sudo rm -f /var/lib/xkb/* command worked. But the: "This process can be triggered by gnome-keyboard-properties and friends or at startup of the machine."
