[Bug 355180] Re: [jaunty] screen brightness dims on AC power despite config to leave at 100%
This bug needs to reopen for ubuntu 10.10 amd64, installed by upgrading 10.04. I can confirm this happens all the time on HP 550 Notebook. Running gnome-power-manager in verbose mode shows TI:23:38:21 TH:0x247b0a0FI:gpm-backlight.c FN:gpm_backlight_brightness_evaluate_and_set,357 - Key 232 mapped to key brightness-down - emitting button-pressed : brightness-down - Button press event type=brightness-down - Button press event type=brightness-down So, when ever ac power is reconnected it triggers brightness-down. Reproducible always. There no other info I can find, that can be related to this. Any help would be appreciated. [Bug 673257] [NEW] Please consider renaming the Unity desktop to avoid naming conflict with Unity Linux
Public bug reported: On May 10, 2010, Mark Shuttleworth announced the Unity desktop on his blog: http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/383 At the time, those of us in Unity Linux viewed the announcement with interest, but after some time, we have come to the conclusion that Canonical's choice of a name is not good as it causes confusion with our own project. Therefore, we are asking Canonical (pretty please with sugar on top) to change the name of the Unity desktop environment. When we at Unity Linux decided on our name, it was a long, drawn-out process where we voted and checked suggested names with Google and at one point I believe we even asked a developer if we could use a title similar to his defunct distro. Here is my attempt to answer some objections before they even come up. Why should Canonical change the name of its desktop? Why don't you just change the name of your distro? 1. We were here first. (AKA Prior Art) 2. We have invested significant time and effort into our branding. 3. The naming is causing confusion, and since we had the name first, we would like Canonical to rectify the situation. You're just being malicious. We were here first. If anything, I could accuse Canonical of being malicious-- after all, they did take our name. However, I don't think Canonical was or is trying to be malicious. One is a DESKTOP, the other is a DISTRIBUTION. They're not the same. They are not literally the same, but they are more than close enough. I don't think I have to say that if someone is searching for help with the Unity desktop on Google, there is a very good chance they would come upon Unity Linux stuff. We have already had people in our IRC channel asking for help when they are obviously not using Unity Linux. Why don't you just let it stand? I mean, there would probably be some extra Linux traffic coming your way. Yeah, there would certainly be more traffic, and a random bit here and there might even prove to be beneficial. However, I think in the end it would be mostly annoying to both Unity Linux and Ubuntu. People would be in the Ubuntu help channels asking for help for Unity Linux and vice versa. So please please please, Canonical, to save you and to save us hassle, rename your desktop. I know in many ways this is a huge request, but given the fact that a simple Google search for "Unity Linux" would have shown you that we were already out there, I don't think I'm being unreasonable. ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Package changed: ubuntu => unity (Ubuntu) -- Please consider renaming the Unity desktop to avoid naming conflict with Unity Linux https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/673257 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Update on F14: Re: [Bug 671893] Re: Rhythmbox 0.13.1 Radio list empty after I entered a new radio]
Hello, I have some more news for you... Always on my DV8, as I have multiple-boot: Several Windows and several Linux distros, I went to Fedora 14 64-bits and ran Rhythmbox 0.13.1. I do the same than very 1st time under U10.10 64-bits but under F14 everything was working properly with RB. I was able to add few Radio's URL, to test them without any issue. Close and reopen RB and still working and having your original Radio list plus mines. Great! So, it seems the issue is with U10.10 64-bits and ? But I am not enough specialist to forsee where the issue could be... If you need further data, don't hesitate. Regards. Joe. [Bug 673245] [NEW] Add compat-wireless-2.6.37 package
Public bug reported: SRU Justification: As part of the linux-backports-modules package, we periodically provide an updated compat-wireless stack. linux-backports-modules-2.6.35 already has a pending patch to add the 2.6.36 compat-wireless stack. [Bug 673236] [NEW] maverick toolchain producing unbootable (hanging) kernels
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gcc-4.4 when attempting to compile recent vanilla kernels from source (2.6.35.7, 2.6.35.8, 2.6.36), the resulting bzImages all hang at the same point in the boot process. this doesn't seem to be an error with the kernel config or source, because using identical kernel source and .config produces working kernels when compiled inside a debootstrap'd lucid chroot. i had originally suspected this had something to do with a specific cpu setting (CONFIG_MPENTIUMM), but this also happens after changing to the 'generic' CONFIG_M686. i also suspected that perhaps something was broken with my install. however, a bzImage produced remotely from someone's fresh 32bit 10.10 install also hung at the exact same place during boot. compiling using ubuntu's generic .config and patchset (linux-image-2.6.35-22-generic) produced a working kernel. the boot failure occurs both on real hardware (ibm t42p) as well as inside of qemu. the broken bzImages hang at rtc_cmos in qemu, and at ehci initialization on real hw. the working bzImages from lucid (as they ought to) end with a kernel panic due to missing rootfs. the broken bzImages are produced with both kernel-package 12.036 and a simple 'make' in the kernel source tree. i had some luck using bzImage/vmlinux with qemu/gdb to see where it was stuck at, but now the symbols don't seem to match up. i would otherwise provide this info. this problem has only appeared since installing 10.10. 8.10, 9.04, 9.10, and 10.04 did not present this issue. lucid's build environment, used from a chroot inside maverick, also does not present this issue. although this bug has been placed under gcc-4.4, maverick's gcc-4.5 package has the same issue. running gcc 4.4.4's testsuite shows failure in several places. the binutils testsuite shows no failures. i've attached a minimized 2.6.36 .config which produces a broken bzImage. any insight appreciated. thanks, -matt ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: gcc-4.4 4.4.4-14ubuntu5 Uname: Linux 2.6.36deep-thought i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Tue Nov 9 15:28:56 2010 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Release i386 (20101007) ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gcc-4.4 ** Affects: gcc-4.4 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 kernel maverick toolchain -- maverick toolchain producing unbootable (hanging) kernels https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/673236 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 673074] Re: there is no way for totem to display its streaming source
Right click on what? Right clicking anywhere on any of the properties does not work. You would expect it to tell you where it is when asking for the properties. Doesn't happen on any of the menus either. If there is a place where you can right click, then it is in a completely unintuitive location. [Bug 546697] Re: enable multitouch support on older touchpads, as supported by driver v15.0.9.0
This is not a duplicate! The parent bug is about touchpads that already had multi-finger capabilities in Windows; this bug is about using a hack to get multi-finger capabilities on ALL touchpads. Just in case anyone thinks the driver is only doing emulation, try this in Windows: go to Mouse control panel, and press alt-shift-i. One finger tip: 1 finger, pressure 60, width 4. One finger sideways on the touchpad: it detects 1 finger, pressure 107, width 15. Two finger tips side-by-side, slightly separated: 2 fingers, pressure 60, width 4. Same is true for 3 fingers. Two fingers sideways: 2 fingers, pressure 150, width 4. This is with that special driver. I'll have to try it on my netbook, which came with multitouch out-of-the-box. ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 308191 Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2 -- enable multitouch support on older touchpads, as supported by driver v15.0.9.0 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/546697 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
