Well, `apt-cache search dumb' and `apt-cache search audacious' didn't
yield anything suggesting I could use a libdumb plugin for audacious,
so I guess it was pulled out of Ubuntu.

So, in short, no, no plugin -- no reproduction :-)

In fact, it was modplug's brokenness which prompted me to go libdumb,
and as modplug works almost (I'll file a bug soonish) fine for me,
I've no reasons to want a libdumb plugin, at least for now.

Security patch for directory traversal does not apply cleanly to 1.3.2

The interface of mod_site_misc has not changed to the Debian version and
it seems safest and simplest to backport the entire patched module.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and help to improve
Ubuntu.

This bug report shows that you installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, which uses
grub2 by default, but that you have removed it in favor of grub1 without
configuring it. You either need to configure grub1, or reinstall grub2
by running the following command in a terminal: sudo apt-get install

[Bug 285063] Re: dmraid mirror in 8.04.1 shows up as three entries in Removable Media - should only show as one

2010-11-12 Thread DaneM
Update (again):

I have just tried taking the entry for /media/PERSONAL out of my
/etc/fstab (by commenting it out with a '#'), and the erroneous drive
entry has disappeared! It would seem that this is a problem with
whatever software provides entries for the "Places" menu not cross-
checking its own generated data (however it does that--I'm not a
developer...) with /etc/fstab entries.

This would seem to indicate that (unless there's some way that I don't
know of), one cannot statically mount a non-system partition (like "/"
or swap) without this bug cropping up. Do any of you know a work-around
for this? Is it possible (feasible) to fix this bug without too much
trouble?

Thanks again for your interest in resolving this!

[Bug 285063] Re: dmraid mirror in 8.04.1 shows up as three entries in Removable Media - should only show as one

2010-11-12 Thread DaneM
Update: I have just upgraded from 9.10 (amd64) to 10.04, and immediately
thereafter, to 10.10. I have reconfigured my drives so that the mirror
is no longer in any kind of array (dm, or otherwise), but so that there
are now 2 separate partitions (one on each drive), labeled "PERSONAL"
and "PERSONAL2", respectively. I have removed mdadm and dmraid from my
system using 'aptitude remove ...', and the odd drive entry still
appears in the "Places" menu.  PERSONAL2 does not show up as 2 drives;
there is only one "Places" entry for it. I have attached a screenshot
for illustration. The erroneous entry is positioned to the left of the
mouse cursor, and looks like a "smooth" hard drive.

Here is my current /etc/fstab file:

[code]
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use 'blkid -o value -s UUID' to print the universally unique identifier
# for a device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name
# devices that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
#
#
proc/proc procdefaults0 0
# / was on /dev/sda1 during installation
UUID=6730efad-369b-40ff-ac3d-85295772bd13 /   ext4
errors=remount-ro 0   1
# swap was on /dev/sda5 during installation
UUID=a8e4b372-85bf-452f-b51b-c7a53f2c9e23 noneswapsw
  0 0
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0
/dev/fd0/media/floppy0 autorw,user,noauto,exec,sync,utf8 0 0
UUID=00e41414-2b88-47cd-9916-698606d5b2d1   /media/PERSONAL ext3
rw,user,defaults0 2
[/code]

It may be worth noting that in /etc/fstab there is an entry for
/media/PERSONAL, but not for /media/PERSONAL2. PERSONAL2 is my rdiff-
backup "mirror" drive (not a mirror in the RAID sense), and has the same
formatting, but a different UUID, and slightly different directory
structure.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need any more information.

Thanks for looking into this bug!

[Bug 195630] Re: Can't change permissions on a folder with nautilus.

2010-11-12 Thread DaneM
I just upgraded from 9.10 (amd64) to 10.04, and then immediately from
10.04 to 10.10. I have this same problem:

When I go to

Places > Home Folder > right-click on Public > Permissions tab

and try to change any of the "File Access" drop-downs, they all
immediately revert to "---". I have tried using 'chmod dane:dane
/home/dane/Public -R' and 'chown a+rwx /home/dane/Public -R' with no
effect. I have also tried running nautilus with 'sudo nautilus
/home/dane', and have not been able to change the file permissions. The
"Allow executing file as program" box is highlighted (solid orange
color), but cannot be checked or un-checked. I will try to attach a
screenshot of this.

As a result of this, I think, I am unable to use any nautilus-share
functionality that requires a change in permissions, such as "Allow
others to create and delete files in this folder" and "Guest access (for
people without a user account)". Whenever I try to use such an option,
nautilus entirely crashes (desktop icons flicker and then come back, and
all folder windows close). I have tried purging (sudo aptitude purge
...) and re-installing samba, samba-common, samba-common-bin, nautilus-
share, nautilus-gksu, nautilus-open-terminal, nautilus-sendto, and
nautilus-sendto-empathy; as well as purging, killing nautilus (killall
nautilus), starting nautilus, and trying to change permissions without
reinstalling those packages. None of this has worked.

I have also tried reinstalling (sudo aptitude reinstall ...) nautilus,
nautilus-data, nautilus-actions, and nautilus-scripts-manager (then
killing and restarting nautilus), but none of this has worked, either.

I have checked my fstab configuration, and my / partition (on which
/home/dane resides) does not have any unusual mount options. I'll
attach this as well. I would REALLY like to get this functionality back
(which I had in 9.10). Any suggestions? Need any more information?

Thanks for your interest in this bug.

[Bug 574886] Re: Apt has strange network errors when updating indexes.

2010-11-12 Thread jacobika
I was having this issue after switching from manually specifying my DNS
sever in Network Manager to having it obtain the DNS address from my
Belkin wireless router. I'm running Ubuntu 10.10. The fix for me was
to switch back to manually specifying the DNS servers in Network
Manager, as suggested in comment #18 above. If you're not sure of your
DNS server, you can either look on your router's config page or use
Google's public DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

It defies all the purpose of switching from good photo manager like
F-spot to a s-h-i-t-t-y Shottwell, which is a half ar-sed God knows

[Bug 674789] [NEW] various different crashes with gnome-system-log

2010-11-12 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-log

There are two distinct types of crashes (one a segfault with weird list
behaviour where the log list gets replaced with eight dates, and
another, a sigabrt) I've encountered when closing logs with gnome-
system-log. If you close logs (^W) relatively quickly, then either of
these crashes occur.

1. log file list changes into days of the last week
This is especially odd. After closing several logs, the list gets replaced by
dates from the last week or so. See screenshot #1. Clicking any of these dates
segfaults the program:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

OK, installed alsa-driver-modules, then ran AlsaInfo and that file is

If I misunderstood the sequence, let me know. Even after reinstalling

sort it out) alsa, still get no sound after BIOS beep, FYI.

Looking forward to next step.  :-{)}

[Bug 674783] [NEW] Misplaced savegame files after update to 1.8

2010-11-12 Thread koanhead
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wesnoth-1.8

I fired up Battle for Wesnoth today after a few weeks away and found that my
saved games had evaporated. I had noticed that the menu entry for Wesnoth was
labeled 1.8, but thought nothing of it. Then I went looking in my ~ to see if
the files were still there, and they were- in a directory labelled
~/.wesnoth1.6/saves - so I chalked it up to an update that didn't go quite
right. There isn't any ~/.wesnoth1.8 directory, so I'm not sure where to
relocate the data that was located in ~./wesnoth1.6.
OK, that's not correct. Immediately after writing that, I tried to mkdir
~/.wesnoth1.8 and was told that the directory exists. Refreshed the Nautilus
pane and saw it. I don't know what happened there or what I did wrong, but now
I have copied the contents of ~/.wesnoth1.6/saves tp ~/.wesnoth1.8/saves and
the saved games show up now in the Load Game dialog within Wesnoth. Tried
loading a saved game and it worked okay, with a dialog saying "This saved game
is from a different version, load it anyway?"

1) Description: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS Release: 10.04
2) wesnoth: Installed: 1:1.8.5-1~lucid1
3) Expected seamless upgrade behavior from 1.6 to 1.8. Maybe something has
changed with the savegame format of which I'm unaware?
4) Instead save files were "lost".

a package (in this instance, for example, libcairo2) if such a downgrade would
resolve the breakage. The default option for this suggestion would be yes or
may, if you feel it is warranted, be remove obsolete package, etc as you see
appropriate for the circumstances (where this is a known and common issue).
+
+ Further information:
+ It appears that closed-source virtualbox was blocking the upgrade. Not sure
on how to fix, but hey... Editing the apt/sources.list & doing a dist-upgrade
did work for me.

[Bug 666199] Re: Rhythmbox Plays Static

2010-11-12 Thread Kip Warner
I'm having the same problem. It doesn't happen very often, but if I
restart the track, it plays fine. I'm using Rhythmbox 0.13.1 on Maverick
/ amd64.
