[Bug 104525] Re: default ntp.conf should use pool.ntp.org servers
I fully agree with comment 6 by Perry E. Metzger. Switching to ntp pool should not be a security issue as bad servers are automatically filtered from the pool. Additionally, bad servers are detected by the NTP algorithm if enough servers are selected (they are called falsetickers, see http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Support/SelectingOffsiteNTPServers#Section_5.3.3.). 4 servers should be enough for most cases. -- default ntp.conf should use pool.ntp.org servers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/104525 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ntp in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 674943] [NEW] autofs5 attempts bind mounts with nfs4, but can't perform them correctly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: autofs5 Description:Ubuntu 10.10 autofs: Installed: 5.0.5-0ubuntu21 When using autofs5 to mount a directory exported as nfs4 from localhost, autofs5 attempts to perform a --bind mount, like it would with nfs2 or nfs3. This does not work with nfs4, as nfs4 exports from its own root. For example, I have autofs setup to serve out home directories, all of which are located in /export/home/$user . The fsid=0 directory is /export . This means that in the auto.home, the path to the user's directory is listed as /home/$user. Given this, there is not enough information in the auto.home for autofs to do a --bind mount for the local directory, and as such, an nfs4 mount should be performed instead. ** Affects: autofs5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- autofs5 attempts bind mounts with nfs4, but can't perform them correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/674943 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to autofs5 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Please be notified that the wesnoth 1.6 branch and the wesnoth 1.8 branch are incompatible with each other. You can't continue games that were started with 1.6 in 1.8 because of deeper changes to balancing and the campaigns themself. See also the explenation in /usr/share/doc/wesnoth-1.8/NEWS.Debian.gz about this. [Bug 674818] [NEW] evolution preferences window larger than screen resolution
Public bug reported: 1366 X768 is the (max/native)resolution on my new laptop. and evolution cannot resize the preferences window and what is worst, when i maximize the window anytime i will click on the window it will not let me select anything,it will instead just shift up and down disabling me to select anything even the unmaximize button,my only resort is to unmaximize from the contextual menu at the bottom toolbar. trying to resize it really doesn't work,it sizes up but it doesn't resize to a smaller window. it always cuts a few pixels over the close button, which is kind of annoying.. i've seen this same issue while searching, prior to creating this bug report. and the other case i've seen was because of a 6.10 config with a 800X600 resolution. (i'm refering to Question #5684) this case is somewhat different, the resolution should be big enough (isn't it ?) and i have the issue on 10.10 X64. ask questions merrily,i'll answer them when i see them :) thanks! ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- evolution preferences window larger than screen resolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/674818 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 667514] Re: deinterlacing is default
If deinterlacing were to be turned off by default a lot of users would experience poor video playback out of the box and it is unlikely that they would know what to do to fix it. This high CPU use will be solved in time as support for GPU accelerated video decoding such as XvMC (X-Video Motion Compensation), VDPAU (Video Decode and Presentation API for Unix) and VA-API becomes more widespread. For those not familiar with the Linux video APIs and extensions, XvMC is capable of offloading the video decoding of motion compensation and iDCT (inverse discrete cosine transform) work to the GPU for MPEG-2 video files. VDPAU supports motion compensation, iDCT, VLD, and deblocking, but for many more formats. The supported VDPAU formats include up through MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 ASP, H.264 / AVC, VC-1, and WMV9, but some video hardware is not capable of supporting all formats. For example software implementations see http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=Njg4Ng and http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=ODUzOQ For info on the underlying benefits which can be supported/used by any software see http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=ODEwNg (this was indeed merged in to the 2.6.35 kernel) and http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=ODcxOA -- deinterlacing is default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/667514 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

My addition: trying a respin of Ubuntu 10.04 on a blank x86_64 system. The same error comes shortly after installing the system and removing/adding a few packages. [Bug 548846] Re: in netbook remix, emacs23 but not emacs22 sizes wrongly in initial full-screen opening
comments #8 and #9 indicate that this has been fixed in upstream version 23.2, which has reached natty now. Based in this information, I'm marking this bug as fix released. [Bug 674838] [NEW] ifconfig(8) doesn't play nice with NetworkManager
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: net-tools I couldn't select two packages when filing this bug. I wanted to select net-tools and network-manager. I found two instances where ifconfig(8) doesn't notify NetworkManager. DHCP discovery isn't done during the initialization period, but is done in the background by NetworkManager. This means there is a race condition between network manager and ifconfig(8) e.g. after i start ubuntu, login and open a terminal if i type ifconfig eth0 address it is reset by NetworkManager a couple minutes later (When DHCP discovery fails). also, afaict i never configured DHCP discovery. The second instance is after i disconnect a network cable, Network Manager doesn't notice i set an address using ifconfig(8) and brutally resets it (while my interfaces file is empty and afaict the NetworkManager config is too). ** Affects: net-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- ifconfig(8) doesn't play nice with NetworkManager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/674838 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
