Date: Sat, 20 Nov 2010 06:29:18 -

Hi Jonners59, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and
help us make Ubuntu better.

I believe that there is just another package manager running. This error
message indicates as much:

Setting up tzdata (2010o-0ubuntu0.10.04) ...
debconf: DbDriver config: /var/cache/debconf/config.dat is locked by another
process: Resource temporarily unavailable
dpkg: error processing tzdata (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 tzdata

You may want to try rebooting and then re-running update manager, or if
that is not possible, you can try to determine what process has the
config database locked by running this in a terminal:

sudo fuser -v /var/cache/debconf/config.dat

And then kill the process that has the database open.

Closing bug report as Invalid.

[Bug 678134] [NEW] ssh/scp to localhost/127.0.0.1 should not update known_hosts

2010-11-21 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
Public bug reported:

If ssh/scp is used on computers with a shared home directory the
localhost key noted in ~/.ssh/known_hosts is ambiguous.

If the user fist ssh to localhost on host A and afterwards do the same
on host B he is getting an error message.

On the other side the host key for localhost is only a valuable
security enhancement if localhost isn't bound to an uncommon ip number.
(But this should cause a lot of troubles that hits a user before.)

[Bug 622077] Re: Unable to start ubuntu hardy server guest os with kvm

2010-11-21 Thread Arie Skliarouk
Solved for me - my problem was that I did not reboot the physical
machine after installing kvm+libvirt packages and thus the virtual
machine was running QEMU software virtualization and not HW-based KVM
one.

Apparently QEMU has some issues with the SeaBIOS, which prevents int13
to operate properly.

All our customers' services will run in KVM guests. But,

2010-11-21 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
$ man ssh_config
[...]
NoHostAuthenticationForLocalhost
This option can be used if the home directory is shared across
machines. In this case localhost will refer to a different
machine on each of the machines and the user will get many warn-
ings about changed host keys. However, this option disables
host
authentication for localhost. The argument to this keyword must
be ``yes'' or ``no''. The default is to check the host key for
   localhost.

[Bug 678048] [NEW] Ububtu 10.10 won't display on Toshiba Tecra M1 laptop

2010-11-21 Thread Mark Schnitzer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Ubuntu 10.10 works beautifully on Toshiba Tecra M1 laptop with an
external monitor and no xorg.conf file.

The system works well with the external monitor and any xorg.conf file
that I tried after dozens of hours over 2 weeks, reading the forum posts
and copying the recommendations. I always put the xorg.conf file in
/etc/X11.

The native laptop computer monitor displays only stripes of various
widths and colors (unless the output is text only, then it displays OK).

VGA compatable controller, Trident Microsystems CyberBlade XP4m32 (rev

Please help gain use of the native laptop computer monitor.

[Bug 678046] [NEW] [arrandale] GPU lockup 80dd7aa2

2010-11-21 Thread Vitalie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

The problem was with video flash in firefox. I have left it in full screen for
a few minutes and screensaver was launched. After pressing a key a could see
the stopped frame from flash video, but sound was going well. I was not able to
exit that full screen or to stop the flash somehow. Moving to a screen with
Ctr+Alt+1 and killing all firefox processes I was able only to stop also the
sound but the frame from flash video remained on screen. Also, over that video
frame appeared the Xubuntu buttons in the up-right corner related to battery
status, wifi and sound volume but they was not active. Ihad to move back to 1st
screen in terminal and to shutdown the machine.
To mention that I am using a Xubuntu running from USB flash with 2GB persistent
storage casper-rw.

[Bug 629024] Re: Clarify which kernel is updated in Grub

2010-11-21 Thread DanielRoesler
I agree that simply removing the old kernels from the list is the ideal
solution. However, if that is not implemented, continuing to have a long
list of multiple kernels on the grub menu is very confusing to casual
users.

Is it possible to implement something like Alexander Lancey mentioned
above? Is it possible to list just the OS(s) in the grub menu, and offer
a sub-menu option for multiple Ubuntu kernels? Should that be a new bug
entry?

[Bug 626594] Re: HDMI Sound Cutting Out

2010-11-21 Thread Jmadero
The problem is back and it's worst than ever. Now switching back and
forth between HDMI and internal sound does not correct the sound. I get
about 15 minutes into a movie and sound cuts completely, testing
speakers fails, flash sound doesn't work, VLC/XBMC has no sound.

[Bug 678050] [NEW] support for apt:package-name?minver=1.0 syntax

2010-11-21 Thread Greg Auger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

I believe this is the last part of the specification [1] regarding apt:
links that has not been fulfilled.

This would be particularly nice to see implemented this cycle, as the
new http://apt.ubuntu.com is very likely to be launched by Natty's
release, and if this was implemented, instructions to use the 'minver'
syntax could be placed on the new website from the start and gather some
publicity about using it.

[Bug 678051] [NEW] No flash player sound.

2010-11-21 Thread Cesare T
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I had flash sound before. I don't know what happened. Maybe something
weird happened with software updates or something, but now I get NO
sound in flash player. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash
player several times and have made no progress as far as sound. I can
only hear sound normally through headphones (have not found a fix for my
system sound to come out through my optical connection yet). System
sounds work fine through headphones, and rhythmbox player works fine as
well through headphones. Flash player doesn't work at all.

[Bug 529217] Re: Lucid Alpha 3 not installable!!!!!

2010-11-21 Thread Patrick
It seems, that this error doesn't longer exist in the current version.
But I don't wonder, since the report was filed almost two versions
ago... Quality insurace must prioritize, if there are too many bug
reports and it is not enough time to review and fix it.

But what about the 100% CPU usage during setup since Karmic or even
before? I just installed Kubuntu Maverrick these days on another AMD
dualcore CPU based Notebook and switching from one step to the next took
up to several minutes again. Same on an Intel quadcore CPU based desktop
PC some weeks ago. Maybe, that only affects the Kubuntu installer, but
that makes it almost unusable and I am considering switching from
Kubuntu to another distribution, only because of that... I think, all
affected computers use AMD graphics (Radeon driver), maybe there is a
dependency.

Re: [Bug 530277] Re: 0cf2:6250 ENE Technology, Inc. card reader not supported

2010-11-21 Thread joselaurian
Hi. Thanks 4 u help. Only I got a question: u tell me about a patch, right?
The patch that you tell me about it is keucr? Thanks

2010/11/19 Daniel Kingsley 530...@bugs.launchpad.net

I sympathise with Walter and Hamish (being an Ubuntu novice).

Fortunately my brother in law isn't and was able to talk me through the
 process.

What I did (with his help) was:

 1. Downloaded the patch. You can use the GUI to extract it. I left
the extracted folder sitting in the download directory, so the path was
/home/daniel/Downloads/keucr in my case (check where your browser has
 put it).

Then open a terminal and type:

 2. sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic [note: this seemed to be
unnecessary as they were already there]

 3. sudo apt-get install build-essential

 4. Then changed directory to the path where the folder is (in my case)
 cd ~/Downloads/keucr
[the capital letter is needed] [The tilda seems to be shorthand for
 /home/yourusername]

 5. Then typed the following three instructions (you'll probably need to
enter your password after the second one).

 make -C /usr/src/linux-headers-`uname -r` M=`pwd` modules
 sudo make -C /usr/src/linux-headers-`uname -r` M=`pwd` modules_install
 sudo depmod -a

 ___

 That was it!

I had to restart my machine (perhaps more than once).

I thought it had had no effect and had almost given up. I then
restarted my machine with the card in. Again, no effect (at least I
thought) as the computer did not respond to me inserting the card , but
on checking with the Disk Utility the card was visible! I was able to
pull photos off the SD card.

Having unmounted the card using the Disk Utility, I reinserted the card
and this time the system responded with a GUI window noting that I'd
inserted an SD card and asking which programme I'd like to view it with.

Hope this helps the other newbies like me.

[Bug 678061] [NEW] evince-thumbnailer hangs permanently on dvi files

2010-11-21 Thread Fredrik Öhrström
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

When opening a directory that contains dvi files, the evince-thumbnailer uses
100% cpu
but never completes when it tries to thumbnail a dvi file. This also blocks any
further
thumbnailing of any other kind.

The dmesg log says:

[ 4782.417998] type=1400 audit(1290278467.228:600713): apparmor=DENIED
operation=open parent=25004 profile=/usr/bin/evince-thumbnailer
name=/etc/texmf/ pid=25017 comm=evince-thumbnai requested_mask=r
denied_mask=r fsuid=1000 ouid=0

repeated ad infinitum.

Perhaps metafont is not allowed to write/read the generated fonts?

[Bug 677210] Re: [MAVERICK] Thinkpad Edge 11 sound does not play though external headphones.

2010-11-21 Thread Harry
Well I do not think it is properly fixed.
At least because the new kernel 2.6.37-6.15 does not work at all.
I cannot boot, it does not get loaded, it ends up in the busybox after a too
long waiting period.
My system is a fully updated Natty 64-bit, Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P, AMD Phenom
II X4 955 Black Edition, XFX GTX285.

All other kernels including all older 2.6.37 kernels do work OK.
I had to remove this 2.6.37-6.15 and I am using now 2.6.37-5.14.

[Bug 678062] [NEW] rt2860sta driver fails to properly scan. connects ok as if network was hidden

2010-11-21 Thread gcb
Public bug reported:

after the latest updates this seems to happen very frequently. right
after 10.10 launched it occurred randomly and not so frequent (and
turning the wifi off and on, usually resolved it. not the case any more)

steps:
1. be near a visible ssid X
2. scan for ssids

expected:
if shows ssid X

what happens:
it does not list ssid X (be it on network manager or iwlist)

some SSIDs will show, others will not.

if you ignore that and tell to connect to it as a 'hidden' network, it
connects.

after it's connected, scanning will show all near ssids.

moving the notebook around does not change anything. it's not a
reception issue.

i'm collecting more data on the access points nearby and will try to
extract a pattern for which ones it detect and which it does not.

Re: [Bug 530277] Re: 0cf2:6250 ENE Technology, Inc. card reader not supported

2010-11-21 Thread Daniel Kingsley
Yes. See Konstantin's link above. D

On 21 November 2010 18:54, joselaurian 530...@bugs.launchpad.net
wrote:

[Bug 678063] [NEW] suspend crashes on 2.6.35+ but not 2.6.32

2010-11-21 Thread Anders Aagaard
Public bug reported:

Trying to debug this problem I changed to the latest stable fglrx
(10.11). I've tried the stable kernel + 2.6.37-rc1 (rc2 wouldn't boot
X). A pm-trace illustrates where the problem is. I can't seem to
reproduce this at all on my lucid setup, using fglrx 10.11 and 2.6.32.

pm-trace files:
dmesg2.txt = after one successfull suspend with external monitor unplugged.
This second one is with external monitor plugged in.
dmesg3.txt = suspend with 2.6.37-rc1

[Bug 583215] Re: indicator-applet suspend/hibernate options mysterious disappearance

2010-11-21 Thread Gurmeet
For me, indicator applet does not have the suspend / hibernate option.

2.6.35-23-server #40-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 GNU/Linux.

The power options are:
- Logout
- Restart
- Shutdown

Hibernate = missing
Suspend = missing
