[Bug 380625] Re: xsane and other sane frontends don't recognize scanner device without root privileges
I meet this problem to in Maverick. As mentioned in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/434208 by some users, a simple user should be able to use a scanner without having to sudo since this is a basic operation. On debian, there is a "scanner" group and libsane configure udev so that the scanner device belongs to that group. [Bug 680385] [NEW] software-center can autoremove essential packages
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: software-center I installed the binary deb for 7Kingdoms AA from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/skfans/files/7KAA%202.14.1/ It is set to depend on libsdl1.2-debian-all. However, ubuntu-desktop depends on libsdl1.2-debian-pulseaudio, which conflicts with the former. If I install 7kaa using gdebi-gtk, it will correctly uninstall ubuntu-desktop and libsdl1.2-debian-pulseaudio. However, if I install it using software center, it will do the same and then start to autoremove everything that depended on ubuntu-desktop, leaving me without GDM, some graphics drivers, etc ... I suggest that software-center would at least WARN people before destroying their system like this. A better way would be not to autoremove certain packages through software center, for example those required to run the current session of the user, or those that ubuntu-desktop depends on. I should also say that the 7kaa package being messed up is not Ubuntu's fault, using libsdl1.2-debian-all as a dependency is not the right way, I think libsdl1.2-debian should be better. Regardless, an "easy tool" like the software center should be more foolproof. It should just a problem with the dpkg script UI, manually upgrading msttcorefonts from the console using apt-get or aptitude works fine otherwise since the EULA dialog will instead be displayed in console/ncurses form. -- package ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/678004 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 507007] Re: make dahdi a suggests or recommends
@Dave as of 1.6.1 you no longer need timing for dahdi. See http://www.russellbryant.net/blog/2008/06/16/asterisk-16-now-with-a-new- timing-api/ @Mattias, from the Ubuntu Policy Manual: "The Recommends field should list packages that would be found together with this one in all but unusual installations." I don't think anyone would be uncomfortable with such a relationship between dahdi and asterisk; in fact it seems sensible. As for MeetMe, it does indeed require dahdi for timing, but ConfBridge, which was added in 1.6.2, has no such dependency. -- make dahdi a suggests or recommends https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507007 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 680368] Re: Send/Receive messages or posts for Google Buzz and Ping.fm accounts don't work
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Part of this particular bug has already been reported and in bug 626023, so this bug will be used to track the latter issue. Please look at the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you can provide regarding the Buzz issue, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug. Additionally, any further discussion regarding that bug, it should occur in the other report. Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may find and this bug will be left open to track the Ping.FM issue. I was able to reproduce the Ping.FM issue noted in the original report by doing the following: 1. Creating a Ping.FM account 2. Setting up the Ping.FM account in Gwibber using the API key provided by Ping.FM 3. Attempting to send multiple messages to ultimately route to other social media platform from Ping.FM 4. No messages after left the Gwibber platform or reached my Ping.FM account. [Bug 585651] Re: [LUCID] Cannot install on eDP laptops such as HP Elitebook 2540p or 8440p
I think the screen flickering issues are unrelated to the initial bug report - and should be in the https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/641027 thread. I believe the upstream bug for the original is : https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29278 which is completely non-working eDP panel (sometimes with hard locks on inserting the i915 module with modeset=1) -- [LUCID] Cannot install on eDP laptops such as HP Elitebook 2540p or 8440p https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585651 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 585651] Re: [LUCID] Cannot install on eDP laptops such as HP Elitebook 2540p or 8440p
Confirm same behaviour on HP Elitebook 2740p (1280x800) Ironlake IPS. Tried using drm-intel-next (2.6.37-rc2 + drm-intel) repo daily ubuntu autobuild as of the 20/11/2010 with no joy - (blank pannel, loading from conosle with i915 modeset=1 causing issue, works vesa only. Using the maverick standard (2.6.35-22-generic) kernel odly intermitantly allows loading of X with the intel driver, but oft times falls back to vesa - presume this is a result of using xorg-edgers. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #29278 http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29278 -- [LUCID] Cannot install on eDP laptops such as HP Elitebook 2540p or 8440p https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585651 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

(Back again from last week--thank you for your patience.) Last time sound worked was with Hardy 8.04 LTR. I just LiveCD'd Hardy again (am currently running Lucid 10.04 LTS), BUT sound didn't work with the LiveCD of 8.04 either. Movie Player said it lacked MP3 & DivX decoders.
