[Bug 683311] Re: /etc/profile has bash scripting bug

2010-12-06 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should
be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that affects many
people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of
this project.

 - Not an issue affecting an average user. Not a papercut.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.
Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as "Invalid" only in the papercuts
project.

[Bug 686172] [NEW] gnome-volume-control doesn't restore remote PA audio sink after restore from hibernate/sleep

2010-12-06 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

I have a remote host running PA in system mode connected to my stereo
and my laptop connecting to it, as selected via the gnome-volume-
control. However, when returning from hibernate or sleep, gnome-volume-
control-applet doesn't try to restore the connection to the remote audio
sink. Instead, it launches with a connection to the local PA and I have
to go and launch g-v-c from the g-v-c-applet and restore the remote
connection manually from the audio output tab. Ideally, g-v-c-applet
would restore the connection itself, if the same host is spotted via
Avahi upon returning from hiberante/sleep.

[Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Maverick 10.10 live-CD login failure, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid

2010-12-06 Thread Peter Belew
After that, I proceeded to log in. The screen came up in 1024x76 mode,
because I had previously set that resolution with the
System>Preferences>Monitors dialog.

So I used System>Preferences>Monitors to set the resolution to
1600x1200, and rebooted. After I logged in, the screen came up in
1600x1200, but the top panel didn't appear. I then retrieved the
Xorg.0.log file and have attached it (as Xorg.0.log2).

[Bug 495768] Re: System crashes at high CPU load Shuttle Barebone SN78SH7 with GeForce 8200 onboard graphic

2010-12-06 Thread Russell Wing
Markus- thanks for your feedback, certainly it does not sound as if the video
card will solve the problem. Mine is less frequent than yours though- perhaps
once a week, but the symptoms sound the same.
I have tried CPU burn and run Memtest overnight and this works fine which made
me doubt hardware as the problem. That was why I was suspicious of the video
card, especially given the display corruption. I also wonder if the drivers are
stable given that Nvidia integrated drivers seem to be problematic from my
experience compared to their cards.

[Bug 685634] Re: Synapse in Unity launcher - shouldn't be

2010-12-06 Thread Ketil Wendelbo Aanensen
Seeing that this is now in Unity/BAMF: Is this bug also causing Gwibber to stay
in the launcher. I have Gwibber-services running on logon. Gwibber does not
however show up in launcher until I start it, either from menu or from the
notification area. Having it in launcher makes sense when a Gwibber window is
active, but after I X it away, it still remains in the launcher.
I'm a little anal about this, beacuse on my smallish screen, I'd like to keep
the launcher as tidy as possible.

[Bug 475800] Re: Tray icon does not appear on startup in Karmic

2010-12-06 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Setting to verification-failed. The upload must have been tweaked from
my debdiff or we have come across some other bug, I think. The scim
package in lucid-proposed lacks a recommendation for scim-gtk2-immodule
where the package in lucid itself still has that recommendation.
Failing verification due to this regression.

[Bug 686166] [NEW] after bug-buddy appears, buttons and window-manager functionality blocked

2010-12-06 Thread Greg Bacon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bug-buddy

Related to the gnome-screensaver-gl-helper bug, when bug-buddy maps the
"Bug reporting tool" window, clicking the Help, Cancel, or Save Bug
Report button does nothing. My window manager is a custom-built
xmonad-0.9.1, and when bug-buddy appears, xmonad's key-commands (e.g.,
switch virtual desktop, kill client, etc.) become non-responsive.

I have to use Ctrl-Alt-F9 and then Alt-F1 to get a console login, kill
the bug-buddy process, and then Alt-F7 to get back to X11. At that
point, I can see gnome-screensaver's login window.

ProblemType: Bug

Alright. Hmm. I'll take a look at the ClipIt fork and see if that would
be worthwhile.

[Bug 685729] Re: Natty Computer Janitor incorrectly detects package manager

2010-12-06 Thread Marcel Stimberg
I think there are two issues: One is the actual bug, the other is the
useless/wrong error message. You get the same error message whenever
anything goes wrong, see e.g. bug #657198

[Bug 686164] [NEW] Compiz broken on radeon mobility

2010-12-06 Thread EricDHH
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Description:Ubuntu natty (development branch)
Release:11.04

I updated my thinkpad t42 to help debugging 11.04 for get a stable
desktop in next april.

DRI is running fine with radeon kernel module and kms. Glxgears runs
well with this driver

e...@calliope:~$ glxinfo | more
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.4
server glx extensions:

The unity desktop sessions comes up with the "sorry, you don't have 3d
support" I get the gnome desktop after a few seconds, so fallback works
well. In compiz the module unity depends on composite and this depends
on opengl, so i get all 3 switched on. But then compiz is not starting
anymore.

e...@calliope:~$ compiz --replace
Backend : gconf
Integration : true
Profile : unity

Initializing composite options...done
compiz (opengl) - Fatal: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing

It looks i have hardware gl support without havin it, a bit shizo..

in "Contact List" those Individuals marked "favourite" appear twice:
* in group "Favourites"
* in original group

e.g. Martin is in group "Family", since i chat a lot with him and want to see

Now, Martin appears both in group "Family" and in group "Favourites"

[Bug 575333] Re: On boot keeps trying to mount "UDEVD-WORK..../dev/null"

2010-12-06 Thread David Rossall
I was getting this at every boot on an EEE PC 701 with Ubuntu 10.0.
Inspired by what tecknomage wrote on 2010-05-07, I looked at my boot
devices in the BIOS. I still had the removable device (USB stick) as
first from when I installed Ubuntu over the previous Linux version. I
have now changed that back to the EEE's internal disc and the /dev/null/
errors at boot are gone.

[Bug 686128] Re: Zoom / scroll behaviour is inconsistent with other Gnome programs

2010-12-06 Thread Marcel Stimberg
There is actually a setting for that but it is not exposed in the
preferences window - I think adding this preference (I'm not sure about
changing the default) would be useful. Maybe a papercut
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut)?

To change the setting open the gconf-editor (Alt+F2: gconf-editor) and
navigate to apps->eog->view. Then uncheck the scroll_wheel_zoom
checkbox.

[Bug 686160] [NEW] gnome-screensaver crashes on lock command

2010-12-06 Thread Greg Bacon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Running with xmonad 0.9.1 (built using ghc-6.12.1 that was built from
source before an Ubuntu package was available), after the upgrade to
Ubuntu 10.10, I began seeing crash reports from gnome-screensaver-gl-
helper.

A related annoyance is that when bug-buddy appears, it seems to block
window-manager functions, so I have to drop down to a console login,
kill the bug-buddy process, then Alt-F7 back to the graphical
environment where I find the gnome-screensaver login window.

[Bug 686158] [NEW] Maverick update to 2.6.35.9 stable release

2010-12-06 Thread Brad Figg
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:

The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar in scope
to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to demonstrably fix a
bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream by originating either directly
from Linus' tree or in a minimally backported form of that patch.

The 2.6.35.9 upstream stable patch set is now available. It should be
included in the Ubuntu kernel as well.

[Bug 677633] Re: keyboard doesn't work with acpi on lenovo s10-3c

2010-12-06 Thread Jay
Update #1. I have a nasty hack in place that allows you to fix this
problem. In other words the keyboard is working with the acpi.

At least I have the keyboard and acpi working at the same time now.

I agree the best way to solve this is a custom DSDT.
That will take a bit of time.
Even better news Its appears from the bios dumps 3g hardware and wifi adapters
are hardcoded on which ones will and will not work in the bios.

Quote of the day from Bill Gates.

Bill gates "Heres some money now fix it"
Programmer "Its going to break everyone elses stuff"
Bill gates "Here is some more money now fix it"
Programmer "Its fixed"

[Bug 686154] [NEW] misleading error message from mount

2010-12-06 Thread gpk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: util-linux

If you accidentally try to mount a regular file (rather than a
directory), mount gives you the error message on the wrong file.

See here:
kitchen:/$ sudo mkdir /mnt/desk.swap
kitchen:/$ sudo mount -t nfs4 desk.lan:/swap/kitchen /mnt/desk.swap/
mount.nfs4: mount point /mnt/desk.swap is not a directory
kitchen:/$ ls -l mnt
total 4
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2010-12-06 20:20 desk.swap
kitchen:/$

So, /mnt/desk.swap really is a directory. But, on the other end,
.../swap/kitchen is a regular file, *not* a directory. So the mount
correctly fails, but it reports that the wrong file "is not a
directory". The problem is not the file at this end, but the file at
the other end. Really, it should say "Attempting to mount a file,
rather than a directory".

Possibly, this is an nfs4 problem rather than a problem with /sbin/mount
.

[Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Maverick 10.10 live-CD login failure, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid

2010-12-06 Thread Peter Belew
Hi Bartosz - I removed the xorg.conf file and rebooted. The login
background and login dialog appear in the 1600x1200 mode (note that the
grub2 screen appears properly, using a custom background I installed).

I've attached the Xorg.0.log file.

[Bug 686150] [NEW] svn is slow when gnome-keyring-daemon is not running

2010-12-06 Thread Edward Schwartz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: subversion

I run the ion3 window manager, so I normally do not run gnome-keyring-
daemon. svn seems to be configured to use a gnome-keyring
authentication mechanism by default, which has an excessively long
timeout:

e...@a2lkjxk3:~/s10/traces$ time svn up
At revision 4417.

real3m23.119s
user0m2.080s
sys 0m0.088s

After running gnome-keyring-daemon, svn operates at normal speeds:

e...@a2lkjxk3:~/s10/traces$ eval `gnome-keyring-daemon`
e...@a2lkjxk3:~/s10/traces$ time svn up
Password for '(null)' GNOME keyring:
At revision 4417.

real0m3.674s
user0m1.484s
sys 0m0.076s

svn should default to a non-gnome-keyring solution when gnome-keyring is
not available, and without a long timeout.

[Bug 589263] [NEW] Endless windows open at the KDE taskbar in Lucid Lynx, forcing restart

2010-12-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Endless windows open at the KDE taskbar in Lucid Lynx, forcing restart:
In different circumstances, describe below, endless application windows open in
the KDE taskbar in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx with KDE. The application which is being
opened in an infinite loop seems to be a file manager, probably the default
file manager, which in my case i think it it Dolphin. Its icon can not be
distinguished at the task bar, which gets cluttered in a matter of seconds. The
rest of the user interface does not respond or responds too slowly to be of any
use in order to stop this effect. The simplest solution is to restart the
desktop manager with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace (given that this shortcut has been
previously enabled) or a hard reboot hitting the poweroff button in the
computers case.
The causes that trigger this effect are still unknown, however it has been
observed when using firefox and trying to open a recent download, and as well
when click-opening a file within a desktop folder panel.
This problem is very annoying and forces to lose all the work in progress
within the GUI, so I would rate it as severe.
A possible workaround would be to implement a limit in the number of windows
which can be opened in the taskbar at any given time, or either to implement a
detection system which triggers a kill pid signal when more than x (say twelve
or so) number of windows for the same program are being opened within a short
timespan (say, five seconds or so).
Apart from those workarounds, the causes for this effect should be investigated
and fixed. It is possibly triggered when an OnClick mouse event is detected and
chanelled to a graphical desktop application program, like Dolphin.

 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 684874] Re: Merge rabbitmq-server 2.2.0-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-12-06 Thread Kees Cook
Based on the comments in bug #506985, I think this delta should have
been dropped in maverick (it was only to support pre-lucid upgrades).
After looking at the package diffs, this is the only real difference
between Ubuntu and Debian now, so I think this bug should be changed
from a merge to a sync.

[Bug 686094] Re: Unity and Compiz do not start

2010-12-06 Thread Didier Roche
No worry about your english, it's perfectly fine :)

Ok, so let's try to debug this.
First thing, we need to know if compiz segfault or not in your unity session.
Can you please, open a session (so, without any decoration), then switch to vt1
and run:
$ export DISPLAY=:0
$ export COMPIZ_CONFIG_PROFILE=ubuntu
$ compiz --replace 2>&1 | tee compizlog

Then, you should have a compizlog file in your home directory, can you
attach it here please?

The default configuration for evolution is to sort mails by

[Bug 661901] Re: Needs re-promotion to Main

2010-12-06 Thread Scott Kitterman
Shoot. I didn't check build-depends all the way down and that got one
more ...

libtest-perl-critic-perl (not in Main before)

This build-depends on libperl-critic-perl which is already in Main, but
not currently buildable due to the lack of libppix-regexp-perl (shown in
component mismatches). I think we may as well fix that under this bug
too.

libppix-regexp-perl (Not in Main before and all it's depends are in Main
already)

[Bug 686137] [NEW] Upgrade Shoes to version 3.0 release

2010-12-06 Thread Zachary Scott
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: shoes

I would like to know the chances of getting the latest release of shoes
into the Ubuntu repo's. You can download the latest release here:
https://github.com/downloads/shoes/shoes/shoes3.run.sh

If anyone is able to update this package, it would be greatly
appreciated!

I'm also available to maintain this package if noone else is interested.

** Affects: shoes (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
