[Bug 691808] [NEW] Don't switch title to menu when hovering window buttons

2010-12-17 Thread Hernando Torque
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

When hovering the window buttons in the top panel, the window title
switches to the menu. I find this distracting, but maybe it's intended
behavior to deal with overshoots when trying to hit the first menu item.
A fix for bug 691776 might fix this one as well.

[Bug 682831] Re: lost console output early in boot

2010-12-17 Thread Scott Moser
I did some more poking, and found a lot of good information. I noticed in
drivers/xen/console/console.c (kernel) the following comments:
# * Modes:
# *  'xencons=off'  [XC_OFF]: Console is disabled.
# *  'xencons=tty'  [XC_TTY]: Console attached to '/dev/tty[0-9]+'.
# *  'xencons=ttyS' [XC_SERIAL]:  Console attached to '/dev/ttyS[0-9]+'.
# *  'xencons=xvc'  [XC_XVC]: Console attached to '/dev/xvc0'.
# *  'xencons=hvc'  [XC_HVC]: Console attached to '/dev/hvc0'.
# *  default: XC_XVC

That lead me to try some different kernel command lines:
- cmdline: console=hvc0 (this is what works in maverick)
  result: some lost console output
  /dev/hvc0 does not exist
- cmdline: xencons=ttyS console=ttyS0
  result: no console output past kernel output
  /dev/ttyS0 exists
  input output error on try to write to /dev/console
- cmdline: console=ttyS0
  result: no console output other than getty prompt showing 'tty1'
  tee: /dev/console: Input/output error
- cmdline: console=tty1
  result all data got to ec2-get-console.

I thought to try 'console=tty1' because I noticed the following in the kernel
boot messages:
* [0.00] Kernel command line: root=LABEL=uec-rootfs ro console=hvc0
  [0.00] console [tty-1] enabled
  [1.505699] Xen virtual console successfully installed as tty1

* [0.00] Kernel command line: root=LABEL=uec-rootfs ro xencons=ttyS
console=ttyS0
  [0.00] console [ttyS0] enabled
  [0.00] console [ttyS0] enabled

* [0.00] Kernel command line: root=LABEL=uec-rootfs ro console=ttyS0
  [0.00] console [ttyS0] enabled
  [0.00] console [tty-1] enabled
  [1.478630] Xen virtual console successfully installed as tty1

* [0.00] Kernel command line: root=LABEL=uec-rootfs ro console=tty1
  [0.00] console [tty1] enabled
  [0.00] console [tty1] enabled
  [1.295756] Xen virtual console successfully installed as tty1

I've not dug into what all that means, but when I used 'console=tty1', I
got all the data I was hoping for on the console, and the 'Xen virtual
console' matched up with 'console='.

One other point of information is that /dev/hvc0 *never* exists in the
lucid boot (well, at least after I can ssh to it). I tried having the
'myhack' script (running before /sbin/init) create a correct /dev/hvc0
node with 'mknod' but that had no effect).

It seems to me, then that the difference from plymouth's point of view
between the lucid and maverick kernels that have the same (console=hvc0)
command line is that in lucid, the device node for /dev/hvc0 does not
get created. This could potentially cause plymouth to then be unable to
replay the messages it caught from /dev/console when it used TIOCCONS.

command lines"

[Bug 658912] Re: Fonts regress to default after preferences are set

The same problem can be seen in Kubuntu 10.10:

- change the font to Déjà Vu Sans and a size of 10
- save => everything ok
- Settings - System Settings - Login Screen - Theme - Get New Themes - Installed
- exit without saving anything and your font is reset immediately to Ubuntu 9

[Bug 662711] Re: NFS user/group mapping not working in 10.10

2010-12-17 Thread Klaus Reichl
Hi out there,

As there is no activity here, I leave my (working) hack in place. Just
posting to help others with the same problem.

Picked up /sbin/mount.nfs from Ubuntu 10.04 installation. This defaults
to nfs3 with works around the (I suppose) server side bug with nfs4.

Have fun,
Klaus

[Bug 638307] Re: Conflict with pm-utils makes laptop-mode-tools package break suspend

2010-12-17 Thread andre vion
I'm experiencing the same issues.

I have laptop-mode-tools already installed.

Even if I try to install lucid pm-utils (1.3.0), apt wants to remove
laptop-mode-tools.

Would removing lmt first, instal lucid pmu then re-install lmt work?

I'm hesitant as I've fully setup lmt *.conf files. (took me 3 hours
*newb alert.)

[Bug 691590] Re: libvirt should not take ownership of ISO images

2010-12-17 Thread Clint Byrum
Serge, from what I understand of rsync, it never writes directly to the
destination file, it will create a temporary hidden file and write to
that, then unlink/rename when the transfer is complete.

So the steps can just be

rsync rsync://mirror/file.iso orig.iso

it won't interfere at all with anything that has the .iso opened.. it
will be like any other unlinked open file.

Re: [Bug 690866] Re: Can't set multimedia keys as hotkeys

2010-12-17 Thread zorblek
Oh, huh. I wonder what it could be. I have them set as hotkeys in Gnome
settings, but to my knowledge nothing is running that would actually make
use of them... Thanks for the insight, anyway.

[Bug 690461] Re: Menus in applications are hidden under the application

2010-12-17 Thread elPraga
Helle Doug!
I just managed to update to latest packages. At the moment I did not notice the
issue again, but I did only one reboot.

I first updated to Ubuntu 10.10, and then to Natty. I suppose I deleted
well all KDE stuff, it should not interfere..

[Bug 634701] Re: mutter restarts on closing almost any application (xterm not included)

2010-12-17 Thread BandD
Adding to what Martin Zackrisson said, every time I close Firefox with
no other window open mutter seems to go blank. If I have another window
open this problem doesn't happen. If the other windows minimized first,
the problem occurs. I can get mutter/unity back by pressing ctrl+alt+T
and launching the terminal when I have the blank screen with only a
mouse cursor. So it definitely seems related to widows,,,hop that is
helpful. Let me know if I can be more clear.

[Bug 329509] Re: fdisk show FAT16 in a ext3 partition

2010-12-17 Thread Phillip Susi
Yes, OP means the Original Poster. I can't really understand his
original description, but then you mention you have the same issue. If
so ( and you still care ), please try to reproduce it and describe
exactly:

1)  What you did
2) What happened as a result
3) What you expected to happen

If you have managed to move on and can not or do not care to reproduce
it and describe it better, then I can just close this report.

[Bug 691790] [NEW] Hauppauge HVR2200 card not known to driver and not configured

2010-12-17 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
Public bug reported:

I'm running Mythbuntu 10.10 AMD64. I have a Hauppauge HVR2200 card.

Booting with this card in the machine gives the following in dmesg:
[9.889159] saa7164 driver loaded
[9.949134] saa7164 :02:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
[9.949142] saa7164[0]: Your board isn't known (yet) to the driver.
[9.949144] saa7164[0]: Try to pick one of the existing card configs via
[9.949145] saa7164[0]: card= insmod option. Updating to the latest
[9.949146] saa7164[0]: version might help as well.
[9.949365] saa7164[0]: Here are valid choices for the card= insmod
option:
[9.949422] saa7164[0]:card=0 -> Unknown
[9.949477] saa7164[0]:card=1 -> Generic Rev2
[9.949531] saa7164[0]:card=2 -> Generic Rev3
[9.949586] saa7164[0]:card=3 -> Hauppauge WinTV-HVR2250
[9.949641] saa7164[0]:card=4 -> Hauppauge WinTV-HVR2200
[9.949697] saa7164[0]:card=5 -> Hauppauge WinTV-HVR2200
[9.949752] saa7164[0]:card=6 -> Hauppauge WinTV-HVR2200
[9.949807] saa7164[0]:card=7 -> Hauppauge WinTV-HVR2250
[9.949863] saa7164[0]:card=8 -> Hauppauge WinTV-HVR2250

I then followed these instructions
http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/community/showthread.php/38864-Hauppauge-HVR-2200-Tuner-Install-Guide?p=286124&viewfull=1
 to do a modprobe card=4 and add it to the options file so that it stays after
reboot.

Card=4 seems to work correctly for this card (I have used it to record
many channels of TV for many months now). It would be great if this
could be autodetected and set for my card type (so others don't have to
do this).

I'll attach my lspci, please let me know if there is anything else that
would help.

dropped that change
[20:46] ebroder: udienz: You also dropped debian/patches/02_relibtoolize.dpatch
[20:47] ebroder: udienz: You also dropped the changes to debian/rules which

[20:47] ebroder: udienz: You also dropped the "#DEBHELPER#" in

[20:47] ebroder: udienz: And you dropped the environment variable change in

[20:458 ebroder: udienz: And you dropped a substantial change to src/cfg.c
[20:49] ebroder: udienz: Oh wait, forget that last bit. Looks like might it's
been incorporated upstream?
[20:49] ebroder: udienz: But if that was the case, it should be documented in

[Bug 294648] Re: svn over https with client certificates broken (regression in intrepid)

2010-12-17 Thread John Ryan
Just to throw a spanner in the works, I am still seeing this problem
with Bryan's patch (comment #35) in all three of the following
scenarios:

1) libneon27-gnutls built from Maverick sources with patch manually applied.
2) libneon27-gnutls built from Natty sources in Maverick.
3) Using the libneon27-gnutls binary package in Natty.

The only way I can get this to work is using Mike's LD_PRELOAD work-
around (comment #14).

[Bug 691789] [NEW] gnome-keybinding-properties prevents other programs from detecting keypresses

2010-12-17 Thread zorblek
Public bug reported:

Setting a hotkey in gnome-keybinding-properties prevents other programs
from using that hotkey, even if no gnome programs are open. For example,
I have my multimedia keys set to play/pause, previous, next, and stop.
This prevents VLC from detecting those keys, even when there are no
Gnome programs that use those keybindings open. This means, in effect,
that I can either choose to use those keybindings only for Gnome
programs or only for VLC, but not both.

[Bug 266927] Re: Static sound on Left Channel with hda-intel STAC 9221 A1

2010-12-17 Thread Reuben Thomas
What does seem to work for me (at least, my sound has now been working
for the last few days) is the fix mentioned in comment #45, adapted to
my computer (a Mac Mini).

Therefore, the real fix seems to be to add a quirk to the module for
each machine that needs one. In my case:

options snd-hda-intel model=intel-mac-auto position_fix=2 probe_mask=1

in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

I shall report the need for a quirk upstream.

[Bug 329509] Re: fdisk show FAT16 in a ext3 partition

2010-12-17 Thread James_o
Hey, thanks for responding! Sorry for the few-days-delay.
I've actually reformatted the hard drive since then. I could try to recreate
the problem, it's just
1) boot from the disk
2) reboot

and it will no longer boot.

What's an "OP"? Original Post, I suppose. Anyway, the problem it created
for me was that grub no longer recognized the partition. Can you give me
some advice for if it happens again? If not, I'll try to recreate the
problem, but I might not get around to it till summer ( it scares me to
try again =-X and I feel guilty trying to create a problem when I have
enough *embarrassed*)

Thanks again. If you don't have time to dwell on troubleshooting, don't
worry. It's not causing me any more problems.

[Bug 441835] Re: Clicking on floppy gives "no device media found"

2010-12-17 Thread janusz
Big discussion,big solutions,but problem is NOT permanently SOLVED yet. Only
downgrading helps.SHAME.
I'm using Ubuntu ONLY since 8.04 LTS,but because off floppy ,I was close to
give up and say sorry to win.That"s cannot be.
Is there any way for permanent fix? PLEASE do something if you can.I can't.I'm
just a simple user.

[Bug 530409] Re: tangerine config doesn't work

2010-12-17 Thread Wim De Winter
I just tried the workaround as proposed by Kernst. Most errors remain,
no music shared, although near the end of the error messages there's
stated:

2010-12-18 02:56:40,132 INFO Finished adding songs

And that's indeed where my misic is stored. To investigate if the
connection works, I added a password: the password is asked for on the
client-side, so something must be working?

[Bug 568103] Re: Xorg freeze lucid daily build ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670

2010-12-17 Thread cslotty
I'm not sure about this - I don't think it's fixed.

uname -a:
Linux desktop 2.6.34-5-generic #14~lucid1-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 3 14:58:56 UTC
2010 i686 GNU/Linux

I still have random freezes. By now I have tried to ssh the machine -
it's totally frozen and there is no log output at all that I could find.
I don't have fglrx installed.

What output exactly would help you most? See above for my lspci.
Unfortunately for the PC I'm having this problem with it would be pretty
hard to switch to a different card. So I'd be really glad if the driver
wouldn't cause those freezes anymore
