[Bug 692063] [NEW] system crashs before login screen appears

2010-12-18 Thread nss
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

just before login screen appears, the mouse pointer shows then the screen
screens goes off then comes back then goes off again and repeats that for about
6 or 7 times then I got a blank screen with the mouse pointer and nothing else.
I press SysReq + R then swith to tty1 to use the computer in command line mode.
livecd works fine with 3d acceleration support (shadows under gnome-panel)
I switched to vesa through xorg.conf.failsafe and now I can get the system up

i915 -> system crash
vesa -> fine

[Bug 692065] [NEW] package nvidia-common 0.2.25 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-12-18 Thread Eliah Kagan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-common

On Natty i386, the dpkg --configure step fails in upgrading nvidia-
common to version 0.2.25, producing this output while attempting to
upgrade with "sudo apt-get upgrade":

Setting up nvidia-common (0.2.25) ...

dpkg: error processing nvidia-common (--configure):

Subsequent attempts to configure with "sudo dpkg --configure nvidia-
common" also fail (as expected).

This is with dpkg 1.15.8.6ubuntu1 and apt 0.8.10ubuntu1. The output of
"uname -a" is:

[Bug 691590] Re: libvirt should not take ownership of ISO images

2010-12-18 Thread C de-Avillez
@Clint: zsync does the same (writes the updated file to a temp, then
renames/unlinks/whatever -- did not check the source).

@Jamie: I just tried with qemu.conf setting user/group to root -- the
ISO gets chown-ed to root:root, 0600. So, no dice here. Nevertheless, my
whole point is it does not make much sense, security-wise, to chown a
read-only file: it is an ISO image, and it is mounted on the CDROM:

(...)

If the file is never chown-ed to libvirt:kvm/whatever, then there is no
race -- the file will keep the current ownership. Obviously, this does
not apply to the qcow2 disc -- there is a clear exposure there. Now, why
does libvirt in user-mode also chown the discs? I would expect the user-
mode to run under the control (and ownership, at least for the disc
images) of the effective userId that started the VM.

[Bug 670865] Re: pam_mount not honoring options from user config file

2010-12-18 Thread Alberto Donato
A note: mount.fuse has an hand-made command line parsing (no getopt), so it
doesn't recognize -o as an option if no space is put between option and
argument.
Without space, all options are ignored and defaults are used (hence no
allow_other).

[Bug 670865] Re: pam_mount not honoring options from user config file

2010-12-18 Thread Alberto Donato
Enabling debug il pam_mount I can see the command executed is

  $ mount.fuse encfs#/home/ack/.crypt /home/ack/Documents/private
-onosuid,nodev,allow_root

which gives the same behaviour as described previously:

  encfs on /home/ack/Documents/private type fuse.encfs
(rw,nosuid,nodev,default_permissions,user=ack)

Adding a space between -o and options gives this:

  encfs on /home/ack/Documents/private type fuse.encfs
(rw,nosuid,nodev,allow_other,default_permissions,user=ack)

This seems to be a fuse-utils bug.

That upstream bug report has been found to be a duplicate of another upstream

That bug was fixed in the upstream source last month, so I guess we just
need a new downstream update for gdb in Ubuntu.

[Bug 18864] Re: docking/undocking support isn't included

2010-12-18 Thread thinkpad
Hi,

I'm on Maverick Meerkat and seem to have the same problem. I filed a bug report
before finding this one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/691272

Yet, although the above one-year-old comment says "fix released" - I
can't see any effect or sign of a fix on my (up to date) system... :-(

And as people have said on this page and elsewhere: it seems to be the
last bastion of Ubuntu (Linux?) deficiency. (I'd try it on Debian if my
SSD where large enough...)

Please help!

tp.

[Bug 485486] Re: Playlists not compatible with BlackBerry smartphone

2010-12-18 Thread Bennett Kanuka
I'm updating this as confirmed as I am experiencing the exact same
issues with my BlackBerry Curve 8900. The m3u playlists created on the
BlackBerry have absolute paths - therefore Rythmbox and Banshee should
export playlists in the same fashion.

I will do the upstream reporting but I'm not sure exactly where this
should be done. My guess is that each player (banshee...etc) should
implement the fix individually rather than media-player-info because I'm
not sure media-player-info has the capacity to pass on to the player to
use absolute paths, whereas the player just needs to append
file:///SDCard in front of the file path when a blackberry is detected.

** Summary changed:

- Playlists not compatible with BlackBerry smartphone
+ Playlists for BlackBerry smartphone should have absolute paths

[Bug 643788] Re: monitor mode wireless interfaces incorrect channel -1

2010-12-18 Thread Lucas Serven
I'll give this a try! However, I've been running Maverick since October
and had the first crash five minutes after following Needlez6's
instructions, so I'm almost certain that this is a result of the
patching process. I'll post back early this week! Thanks for the
suggestion, Guy.

[Bug 691100] Re: Replay gain in soundkonverter broken

2010-12-18 Thread David Wynn
This version claims itself as version 1.0.0 beta 1. Also notes -- using
KDE development platform 4.5.1. Looking in synaptic, I have the
0.9.90-1 package installed.

When I pull both the original .wav and the resultant .mp3 into Audacity,
these look like nearly identical files. These sermon files tend to get
recorded pretty quietly by my church, and the resulting mp3 is not
louder than the wav file. I would expect a noticeable volume
difference, if the replay gain worked (as it did in the older version of
soundkonverter).

I included both logs in the zip file. The "main" log is the default
main log file. The "file" log is the one specific to converting my file
to .mp3.

Thanks for your help.

[Bug 692041] [NEW] microphone and headphones not working at the same time in maverick

2010-12-18 Thread nitalaut
Public bug reported:

I'm using ubuntu 10.10 with latest updates on Toshiba X505-Q887 laptop.

The problem is that I can't get headphones and internal mic work at the same
time.
By default headphones work, but mic does not.

If I put 'options snd-hda-intel model=laptop position_fix=1 enable=yes' into
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
microphone starts working but headphones stops (sound plays via speakers).
I tried different combinations with no luck.

Some info:

I can say this does happen - just did on the Desktop login, (and in retrospect
once with the 0ubuntu4 compiz version), but doesn't occur most of the time.
Cannot see any way yet to make it happen at will and a logout/login always
'fixes' - based on what was seen here and some reports from others

[Bug 692039] [NEW] gcalctool 5.32.0 no longer has a memory facility

2010-12-18 Thread Joe Hurr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

Up until 10.10 the built-in calculator had a memory facility which was better
than the one in Windows, with multiple registers. Now the whole thing seems to
have gone, and it's not just me, there are at least three other sufferers on
this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10226158

This makes the whole thing almost useless as a simple calculator. Is it
a deliberate crippling of the app, an accidental regression or a bug
that only affects certain people?

[Bug 186103] Re: [K8M800] Panel on K8M800 is not supported (Averatec 3280)

2010-12-18 Thread Peter Belew
Checking out the driver sources (rev. 890 now) and rebuilding makes
resolution detection work still, but switching to text screens does not
work.

Reinstalling the openchrome driver from the repository makes text
screens work, but the resolution fix isn't in that driver, so xorg.conf
is necessary.

Public bug reported:

Have a new build with an ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI SATA
6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard. Upon first install of 10.10
everything worked fine for about a week. Turned on one day and there was
no sound. Nothing was muted, speakers worked, etc. Installed XP on
system, and after installing sound drivers sound worked on XP.
Reinstalled linux and sound worked again. Worked for 2-3 weeks but once
again I have no audio. Have tried uninstalling ALSA, installing it again
and a couple other things I have read around on the internet including
following the directions here

avail. Have kernal Linux 2.6.35-23-generic.

[Bug 95140] Re: windows don't get focused when switching workspaces

2010-12-18 Thread Ravi
I also face the same problem. The current work around is to set the
focus prevention level in general settings to off.

[Bug 666872] Re: Alsa driver does not install

2010-12-18 Thread Darius
I have exactly the same problem. The same laptop, the same kernel and
alsa driver version. I fixed it only when I reinstall kernel. But even
after that I'm getting some errors during every updates installation.
Headphones socket still does not work.

[Bug 632468] Re: Maverick : padevchooser, pavucontrol icon doesn't show

2010-12-18 Thread NoOp
In lucid padevchooser uses
/usr/share/icons/gnome/24x24/stock/media/stock_line_in.png

$ locate stock_line_in.png
/usr/share/icons/gnome/16x16/stock/media/stock_line_in.png
/usr/share/icons/gnome/24x24/stock/media/stock_line_in.png

Those icons are missing in maverick.
