Further general discussion or chat should be left to the appropriate mailing lists or ubuntu IRC channels. So please keep any further messages to a bare minimum unless you can help. We know what this looks like and pretty much covered how to reproduce it. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but 300+ people will not be happy being bombarded by useless messages (I'm looking at the last two posters). [Bug 691819] Re: ntpd stopped working when time server disappeared
Hi agent8131, thanks so much for taking the time to file this bug report and help us make Ubuntu better. If the configuration file hasn't been changed, then on upgrade, dpkg will in fact update it to the new value. If the user has changed /etc/ntp.conf, the user will be given a chance to accept or reject the new config file during the upgrade, or they can even merge the two to reflect the new changes. In no way will we ever blindly override a user selected configuration like 'clock.tricity.wsu.edu'. I'd suggest running a monitor which watches your NTP servers and sends you a notification if they stop responding or if they are too far skewed from your local time. [Bug 691997] [NEW] Impress crashes when pasting text from writer
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org I'm attaching a very short .odt file. Copy its content to the clipboard (^C), open a new empty presentation, paste (^V) and you get a rather unhelpful "Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice.org crashed" message. There is nothing on .xsession-errors or, trying to run writer or impress from the terminal, on stderr. I only run Ubuntu in its LTS flavour, so I am not able to try to reproduce this bug with a more recent version of OpenOffice.org. [Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)
Hi, I recently re-installed Ubuntu 10.10 as I had corrupted my Couch DB installation (32 bit). This now works (for syncing with Ubuntu One). As one collateral damage, Brasero, which was working OK before, after distro upgrade from 10.04, now issues the well-known error message (if started from Rhythmbox) and just exits (if started via Applications / .. or via context menu, i.e., right click on the desktop). I now use GnombBaker instead of Brasero, and this works. But of course such things are annoying and periodically lessen my enthusiasm for Ubuntu, and my motivation to recommend it as a serious alternative to Windows or Mac OS. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529696 Title: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 682429] Re: Choosing use entire partition actually results in using entire disc
It turns out that this may be a duplicate of bug 659106 but in that case, from the info provided, it appears Paul began with an extended partition so that blows a hole in my theory about this only being reproducible with only primary partitions existing :^( I'd still refer everyone to bug 655950 and also bug 652852. Also bug 657397 may be loosely related. After following this dilemma off and on at the forums for several weeks I'm quite convinced that displaying the "Use entire partition" and "Use entire disc" options after having already rejected the option to "Erase and use entire disc", and having selected "Install alongside other OS" instead, serve no reasonable purpose and only provide an opportunity to destroy existing data and/or any existing OS's. If the installer finds an acceptable partitioning arrangement (ie: three or less primary partitions) it displays the option to "install alongside" as it should, so under what circumstance would a person want to use and erase an existing partition? If they're performing a reinstall over existing partitions the "manual/advanced" option provides the proper tools to do so (including the ability to not format an existing /home). And this is an area where we must all put our "noob shoes" on. Most Windows users don't know the difference between a disc and a partition so we're simply offering potentially destructive options. Sadly this has also effected some fairly long term Ubuntu users. OTOH since both Vista and Win7 have their own partitioning tools the "Use largest continuous free space" option was truly brilliant and IMHO the safest possible dual-boot method for a first timer, aside from possibly Wubi. Regardless I'm not going to mark anything as a duplicate ATM, I'll leave that decision up to the devs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682429 Title: Choosing use entire partition actually results in using entire disc -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 522998] Re: XHCI (USB 3.0) kernel Module Prevents Suspend
Hi all, I'm running 10.10 on an Asus N61JQ laptop. Here are the steps I've taken to get suspend/hibernate working on my laptop. For hibernate, I had to resize my swap as it had been created smaller than my actual RAM size. I tried adding SUSPEND_MODULES="xhci_hcd", which helped but did not resolve the issue completely. I could see the hard drive saving the current state to disk, after a minute there would be no more hard drive activity but a blinking cursor remained on the screen. I would then have to switch off the laptop manually. On turning the laptop back on, the system was correctly restored to its state before I initiated the hibernate. Blacklisting in /etc/modprobe.d didn't make a difference, on hibernating the laptop wouldn't switch off, with a blinking cursor. I found the solution on ubuntuforums.org, see comment #7 by John Dias: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1444822 His solution involves a script for unbinding ehci_hcd from the kernel (which should be made executable). I followed his instructions, using xhci_hcd instead of xhci for part 2 and now suspend/hibernate works perfectly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/522998 Title: XHCI (USB 3.0) kernel Module Prevents Suspend -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 618557] Re: Missing menubars in at least two wxWidgets applications: boinc and truecrypt
Unfortunately, this didn't work for me. I tried it from terminal and by adding it to bashrc.
