[Bug 702252] [NEW] git-import-orig should support tgz file

2011-01-12 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: git-buildpackage

I'm testing this against a self-compiled 0.5.4 version of gbp. Running
lucid, it's not easy for me to test later releases. My apologies if
this has already been dealt with upstream.

git-import-orig will not import a *.tgz file. The same file imports
just fine as *.tar.gz. Would be nice if git-import-orig did the right
thing by default.

[Bug 590566] Re: severe memory leak began in Karmic, persisting in Lucid

2011-01-12 Thread Allan
Thanks for reopening this issue.

I don't think activating apport-collect was much use since I rejected
the access request. I found information about how apport-collect works
when diagnosing a program crash, but I didn't find anything about its
use in diagnosing a persistent memory leak. What exactly am I enabling
when I give this program greater permissions?

[Bug 684875] Re: Patch to Natty 2.6.37-virtual breaks non-EC2 users

2011-01-12 Thread Alex Bligh
Further notes:

1. non-ubuntu specific: to get HVM devices to work on Xen pre
3.4.something, you need to use emulunplug=unnecessary or perhaps
emulunplug=unnecessary, all on the command line. Otherwise Xen's non-
support of PCI unplug means that failure to unplug the emulated devices
stops the HVM devices initialising.

2. It is desirable that if both devices come up, /dev/block/byuuid/...
maps to /dev/xvdX not /dev/sdX if mount by UUID is to work. I haven't
yet checked this. It requires module init order to be right. I'm not
sure you can work around this by blacklisting sd_mod as I think sd is
built in. I have some patches to allow early init of old style xen block
devices somewhere which I might be able to dig out.

3. historical experience tells us that having 2 NICs (emulated and not)
with the same Mac address confuses udev fatally. In general in a virtual
environment you don't want udev renaming NICs anyway, so start up
scripts should remove this.

[Bug 580183] Re: asus eeepc 1001px in/out jack not functionnal and screen microphone

2011-01-12 Thread Nevyn
I have been having a look at the output of lspci. It turns out the different
cards can be differentiated. These are my results:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio
Controller (rev 02)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 8437
Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr-
Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx+
Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- SERR-
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel

The lspci attached to this bug report is thusly:
00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition
Audio Controller [8086:27d8] (rev 02)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device [1043:8442]
Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr-
Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx-
Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- SERR-
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel

The important line seems to be the subsystem. I've asked our vendor to
contact Asus about possibly getting some information on the model I've
got. Can I get some more results from "lspci -v" pertaining to the audio
device from those having issues?

This should enable us to get an idea of how many different revisions
there appear to be for this sound card and hopefully means we'll be able
to fix a range of them.

[Bug 673007] Re: Audio Jacks not working on Dell Studio XPS Laptop 1647

2011-01-12 Thread Ron Ronson
There is actually a simple fix for this issue which I found here: http
://ordinary-linux-user.blogspot.com/2010/05/no-sound-from-headphone-
jack.html

Solution:
1) open alsa-base.conf file
$ sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

2) add the text below to the file (last line)
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m6

3) restart your machine

I'm not sure if it would be considered a bug or not?

[Bug 620654] Re: "Disconnected -- no reason specified" when adding GTalk/Jabber account

2011-01-12 Thread Robert Siemer
Omer, your comment is one of the worst I’ve read so far, BECAUSE it
reads like:

“bla bla bla, please open a new bug with the same stuff as here, thanks”

Apart from that, you mentioned:
-title of the bug report is bad
+please propose a better one, the actual problem is another bug by itself: a
stupid error message from empathy, please open a bug report yourself to fix
_that_ bug (a better message would be: “disconnected (unfortunately the
telepathy-gabble connection manager did not specify a reason!)”)

-Is it still buggy in 10.10?
+Yes it is. I can reproduce the problem.

-please attach a log
+I‘ve seen those attached

-you marked the bug “won’t fix”
+actually, the bug itself is fixed in newer (and older!) telepathy-gabble

[Bug 700489] Re: After several packages upgraded, getting radeon 0000:01:00.0: Disabling GPU acceleration

2011-01-12 Thread David Tenty
Hi. If possible could you attach the complete dmesg log from before the
bug occurred that you posted a part of in you original report? Are you
sure there were no other package upgrades before the problem started
happening?

Instead of using obsolete solution from www.longpathtool.com, you'd
better visit the website of original manufacturer - www.pathtoolong.com

[Bug 702223] Re: Unit mismatch in filesizeformat filter

2011-01-12 Thread Richard Laager
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: python-django

The filesizeformat filter in Django divides by 1024 but uses base-10/SI
unit labels. Given that the filter is for "file size" formatting and
that the UnitsPolicy says everything but RAM sizes should default to
base-10, I propose that the right fix is to change the divisors from
1024 to 1000 and keep the labels.

Either change will break the regression tests in Django. I'll generate a
patch if there's an Ubuntu consensus on which direction to go.

This recently came up on the django-developers mailing list. Upstream is
unwilling to correct the inconsistency either way. When I asked for
suggestions to help Ubuntu pick a direction, the response wasn't
  helpful: https://groups.google.com/group/django-
  developers/msg/9b1c4a3e832846ff

[Bug 93847] Re: Excessive CPU usage by Gnome System Monitor

2011-01-12 Thread Gaz Davidson
Disclaimer: I know nothing of GTK or Cairo.

First up, the source:

http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-system-monitor/tree/src/load-graph.cpp

This comment:

// FIXME:
// on configure, g->frames_per_unit =
g->draw_width/(LoadGraph::NUM_POINTS);
// knock FRAMES down to 5 until cairo gets faster

This value is set to 10, not 5. I haven't profiled it, but that comment
would suggest cairo_curve_to is the problem. The canvas appears to be
stateless, redrawing everything every frame. The obvious solution is to
implement a cache for the graph rather than blaming Cairo for the speed.

Cairo must have ways to manipulate graphics buffers. Keep two around as part of
the load graph state, one for the background and one for the graph. Draw in a
cyclic manor each frame like so:
1) Work out a width based on the last drawn position and the current one. Blank
it out from left to right, wrap around if necessary.
2) Draw the line segments from the last drawn position to the current "cursor
position"
3) Stamp down the graph background onto the canvas
4) Draw the line segments in two halves, giving the illusion of a scrolling
buffer

This will remove 99.9% of the smooth line drawing calls, it will cost a
small memory cache, but that's the reason we have RAM anyway.

Workarounds:

a) Do as the comment says, set frames_per_unit to 10 instead of 5, this will
draw less line segments. This will call g_timeout_add with a larger interval.
b) Set the default /apps/procman/graph_update_interval to something higher, say
2000 or 5000. This would just suck.
c) Draw jagged lines instead of smooth ones, this may be faster.

Since I have a debmirror of lucid maverick and natty, I can do:

Which shows the issue started with maverick and it looks like the
issue was half fixed at 2.6.35-24 and has been resolved with the
2.6.35-25 packages in maverick and is also ok natty.

Installing linux-image-2.6.35-25-virtual_2.6.35-25.43_amd64.deb onto a
maverick domU results in autofs working.

Thanks. I can now remove linux-image-server from these boxes and
install linux-image-virtual again.

[Bug 690227] Re: [MIR] ubuntuone-control-panel

2011-01-12 Thread Michael Terry
So I had one issue with the copyright file (didn't contain the GPL
header, which is required). But I just uploaded a fix for that.

Packaging looks fine and should be well maintained by the team... But
when I actually run it, it doesn't work? It seems like the dbus server
isn't giving the UI any information. Is that expected?

[Bug 574250] Re: SAMSUNG N150 Laptop : Brightness issue

2011-01-12 Thread Erlan Sergaziev
What exactly doesn't work for you, the PPA solution or "sudo setpci -s 00:02.0
F4.B=50"?
sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=CC
works for me on the same N150 and should work for you.
Of course, it's just a workaround, but I put it into a shell script in my path,
so it doesn't bother me anymore.

Re: [Bug 702223] Re: Unit mismatch in filesizeformat filter

2011-01-12 Thread James Bennett
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

We (Django) are content with what Django, as we ship it, does. We don't
feel bound by Ubuntu's policies on units, and so will not be making
changes upstream solely to accomodate such policies. If Ubuntu chooses
to package a version of Django which makes changes to adhere to Ubuntu's
policies, that's Ubuntu's decision.

Our only concern with Ubuntu making the change in its Django package
would be the introduction of yet another incompatibility between Django
as we package it and Django as Ubuntu distributes it; this was the point
Russell raised on the django-developers list, as it creates an ongoing
documentation and support issue for us.

Unfortunately I cannot reproduce this bug. Can you submit a screen shot
showing the issue. Is this the only website you have the problem with.
Lastly, if you have any other browsers available could you check to see
if the problem is localized to just firefox please? Thanks in advance!

sorry to beat on a dead dog, but I have the same problem with my N150. I
tried everything suggested in this thread, but nothing worked. However,
I have noticed the my laptop's brightness comes to full everytime it is
turned on while plugged in, but it comes to half brightness when turn on
without the charger. If you guys can provide me more info or perhaps
more hints, I will really appreciate it.

Thanks,

[Bug 642091] Re: No resume after suspend - [ACPI: _PSW execution failed] dell 1012 - aspireone 721

2011-01-12 Thread Steve
There seems to be a lot of other bug reports that could possibly be
duplicates of this. I'm adding this comment so that I can redirect them
here, so they can be compared.

Here is a composite of the comments above:

Resume from Hibernate or Standby seems to hang with a blank screen except for a
flashing cursor in the upper left corner, although it actually resumes if you
wait for about 5 minutes (300 seconds?).
Hibernate takes a while to complete, also.

So far, reported on Acer Aspire One 721 (single core athlon) and Dell 1012
with Ubuntu 10.10 maverick, kernels 2.6.35.24 and 2.6.37-rc2
assigned to kernel bug # 24032

Successful workarounds include:

Borislav Petkov, at amd64.org found that booting with the "nohpet" option on
the kernel command line allows resume to work correctly.
1. From a terminal, edit the grub config file:
  sudo nano /boot/grub/grub.cfg
2. Find the first line with "vmlinuz" in it, and append " nohpet",
so that "quiet splash" becomes "quiet splash nophet".
3. Ctrl-O to save it.

Alternatively, make sure CONFIG_NO_HZ and CONFIG_HI_RES_TIMERS are not
set in your kernel. These two options (in Processor Type and Features)
seem to expose this bug.

mateibota at www.theplatform.info found that replacing the ACPI power
management module with the older APM module:
A. boot with the additional options "noacpi apm=on noapic"
   1. From a terminal, edit the grub config file:
 sudo nano /boot/grub/grub.cfg
   2. Find the first line with "vmlinuz" in it, and append the options,
so that "quiet splash" becomes "quiet splash noacpi apm=on noapic".
   3. Ctrl-O to save it.
B. Install the cpufreqd module:
   sudo apt-get install cpufreqd

[Bug 658055] Re: inkscape crashes when opening document properties

2011-01-12 Thread Saleel Velankar
The following workaround worked; just as advertised above (Thanks!) :

I ran these in konsole:

1. cd /usr/share/icons/oxygen/16x16/actions/
2. sudo ln -s document-properties.png gtk-properties.png
3. sudo gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/oxygen/

Now inkscape behaves as it should.

[Bug 702223] [NEW] Unit mismatch in filesizeformat filter

2011-01-12 Thread Richard Laager
