[Bug 570885] Re: Login Screen Settings greyed out and unlock button non-responsive

2011-01-19 Thread Yashkirat Singh
I have the same problem, that is, the Login Screen is greyed out,
including the unlock button.

Note: I just installed Natty Narwhal (Ubuntu 11.04) on my system. I have
a Radeon 2600 XT video card, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400+
and 4 gigs of RAM . I was not able to login successfully the first time.
I had to log-in using the Ubuntu Desktop Edition (Safe Mode). I have
since rebooted back into Safe Mode and the Login Screen is still
greyed out.

[Bug 465055] Re: Epson ALCX11NF Scanner I/O error in xsane

2011-01-19 Thread Fred Saunier
I finally got the Epson CX11NF to work properly in Lucid. As it turns
out, the problem comes from libsane which doesn't work properly with
network devices that have a longer name (eg wireless devices). See bug
reference #572246.

A patch for libsane has been issued by Nicolas Valcarcel, and is available on
this ppa :
https://launchpad.net/~cgateam/+archive/ppa

Add the ppa to your list, update and upgrade. Libsane will be updated
with the patch, and now xsane works just fine. Finally!

[Bug 62444] Re: Missing go7007 driver

2011-01-19 Thread Andy Whitcroft
As of v2.6.28 the go7007 driver has been sucked up into mainline
staging. It seems a much modified driver compared to the patches on
this bug. I am going to assume that they are obsoleted by that version.
It would be appropriate to test the latest natty v2.6.37 based kernel as
that contains all current updates to the driver from mainline. If any
patches are still outstanding it would be best to work with the
maintainer of staging (GregKH) to get those integrated.

For now I will close this off, and I suggest we open new bugs for any
specific patches we need considered for Ubuntu kernels.

[Bug 704821] [NEW] launchers don't expand environment variables

2011-01-19 Thread anatoly techtonik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I had quite a bad user experience today. I've tried to create a simple
launcher for Chromium with a command line that included $HOME
environment variable [1] and it was not expanded. To my surprise I've
found the '$HOME' directory instead spelled with the $ inside.

Now I have to use bash -c command $HOME command line, but it is not
consistent with how would you _as a user_ expect the launcher to behave.

As a side note I'd also like to see the flag in launcher properties for
executing program in terminal to control console messages.

[Bug 118823] Re: List Buy a pc with Ubuntu pre-installed as an option to get ubuntu

2011-01-19 Thread Barry Drake
Further suggestion: I've written to all the UK barebones computer
suppliers asking if they can maintain a list of their builds that are
fully tested with Ubuntu. I've offered to travel to their factories and
help with tests if needed. I've told them they can have their machines
listed on: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/barebones and they can take
responsibility for updating. (Don't look at the wiki page - it doesn't
exist yet). If you like this suggestion, lets repeat it in other
countries. Again, if there is uptake of this, the wiki needs to be
referenced from the website along with https://help.ubuntu.com/community

[Bug 572957] Re: screen resolution changes when log out or change user

2011-01-19 Thread Victor Jimenez
After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10, I still have this problem.
Are there any news related to it?

I was also wondering why this bug has low priority. I understand it's
not a kernel panic, but if Ubuntu wants to be an easy-accessible OS,
bugs like this one should not happen. They make Ubuntu look very
amateur.

If there is any way I can obtain more information (through logs,
debugging, etc.), please let me know and I will try to submit as much
information as necessary in order to fix this problem.

Thank you!

[Bug 704833] [NEW] Dropbox isn't shown in indicator-applet - uses notfication tray instead

2011-01-19 Thread SolidSlash
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-applet

Hey,

I'm having an issue related to both Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal and
Dropbox. As I pointed out in the title, Dropbox doesn't come up as an
applet in the indicator-applet - instead, uses an icon in the
notification tray. It worked well in Maverick, something's wrong with
indicator-applet in Natty. Any ideas? Guys @ Dropbox forums told me that
Ubuntu devs made lots of changes in the indicator-applet package during
the Natty dev cycle and due to that Dropbox is somehow borked.

I can attach an screenshot but I guess it's pretty much self-
explanatory. Running ./dropbox from terminal doesn't give any output.

I'm using Ubuntu Natty 11.04 up-to-date, indicator-applet
0.4.6-0ubuntu3.

   0 root@oystercatcher:/etc/cups#

with /admin/conf still requiring a user

   0 root@oystercatcher:/etc/cups#grep -A5 admin/conf cupsd.conf
   Location /admin/conf
 AuthType Default
 Require user @SYSTEM
 Order allow,deny
   /Location

And this user is lpadmin:

   0 root@oystercatcher:/etc/cups#grep -B1 jan cupsd.conf
   SystemGroup lpadmin
   ServerAdmin j...@aims.ac.za
   0 root@oystercatcher:/etc/cups#grep lpadmin /etc/group
   lpadmin:x:109:jan
   0 root@oystercatcher:/etc/cups#

I tested this and anyone can view / or /admin by browsing to
https://192.168.42.6:631/
and /admin/conf (e.g. click Add a printer), I can now log in, and another user
not in
the group lpadmin can not continue so that part is good.

However, I still have Listen oystercatcher.aims.ac.za:631 and accessing via
hostname,
not IP, I get 400 Bad Request.

I can continue my server setup, but the ubuntu wiki and server documentation is
still lacking,
and there is still something wrong (or misunderstood or mis-configured by me)
with the Listen directive
in cupsd.conf for the hostname access.

For the remainder, I see mention that the patch below was a trigger for

[Bug 704837] [NEW] Crash with segmentation fault

2011-01-19 Thread Jurrit de Vries
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

During normal operation, like deleting a file, or doing nothing,
thunderbird will randomly crash. It only returns a segmentation fault.
Here a part of `strace thunderbird`:

getgroups(9, [4, 20, 24, 46, 105, 119, 122, 123, 1000]) = 9
clone(child_stack=0, flags=CLONE_CHILD_CLEARTID|CLONE_CHILD_SETTID|SIGCHLD,
child_tidptr=0x7f531ad359d0) = 3476
wait4(-1, deliver mode: 0
Segmentation fault
[{WIFEXITED(s)  WEXITSTATUS(s) == 139}], 0, NULL) = 3476
--- SIGCHLD (Child exited) @ 0 (0) ---
exit_group(139) = ?

What can I do more to get more crash information? It is easy to
reproduce, it wil crash at least once per hour. I don't have any strange
plugins. It is just a large mailbox. A similar thunderbird with the same
ubuntu version is also running on another machine, accessing the same
mailbox. However, that thunderbird only crashes every three days or so.

[Bug 681083] Re: Ubuntu Crashes/Freeze on XenMotion

2011-01-19 Thread Luiz Ozaki
Hi Muriel,

Which processor are you using ?

It seems that the kernel doesnt crash, but still freezes at least for
me.

Unable to get console output or IO problem causing the process hang
warning.

But the wierd thing is that when I migrate to hostA - hostB = console freeze.
HostB - hostA = IO freeze but console still works and then after any IO
request, it freezes turning into process hang.
These happens always.

I wonder, Why dont I get the HostB - HostA AND HostA- HostB the same
problem

Gonna look into the Xen mailling as well, maybe I`m getting a different
error or something now.

Hey, sorry I missed this one. No, nothing. I filed another bug as
instructed and followed the ABC's of sound bugs but nothing worked. I
really didn't expect any resolution on this to be honest as it's oldish
hardware now and I doubt people with the know how have access to or interest
in sourcing the hardware to test on. Just thought I'd log a bug to see how
the process went. Frustrating for me because I used to have sound on that
laptop running pclinuxos 2007 or there abouts. Anyway, back to windows I
trundle, begrudgingly.. At least the hardware works. Good luck :)

The patch Hendrik posted is for the upstream acerhk driver rather than
for ubuntu. Seems that this is a bug in the acerhk package rather than
a kernel bug, therefore closing the linux task.
