Good point!

Why keep struggling with patches for 0.12.4 instead of just moving on to
0.12.5 as in 10.10?

[Bug 709156] Re: nm-applet often crashes on natty when apt-get updating

2011-01-28 Thread PeterPall
Only to make sure this is the bug I experience: The
sudo apt-get update
doesn't crash the network manager.
A sudo apt-get dist-upgrade does, though.

Still investigating if this is triggered by any post-installation script
that is commonly run. The last time nm-applet crashed on my computer the
post-installation scripts did output the following messages:

Processing triggers for ureadahead ...
ureadahead will be reprofiled on next reboot
Processing triggers for menu ...
Processing triggers for man-db ...
Processing triggers for python-support ...
Processing triggers for libc-bin ...
ldconfig deferred processing now taking place

I also noticed that I don't even have to pass through KDM - it hangs by
itself very soon, with black screen and white arrow pointer on it. So I
can't even snap dmesgs with 2.6.38-1, they are snapped with 2.6.37-12
here.

[Bug 709637] [NEW] Acer 1830T : KDE session hangs after login with kernel package 2.6.38-1

2011-01-28 Thread Wladimir Mutel
Public bug reported:

I noticed that Natty put out kernel package 2.6.38-1 and decided to test if
this helps against the bug lp:701384
And then, after I enter my password in KDM dialog, and before the KDE session
becomes usable, the system stops to respond on keyboard&touchpad and probably
enters in a sort of CPU loop because its fan starts to blow more loudly.

Øyvind, thank you for that script. The graphics performance issue after suspend
was bugging me for quite a while (up to a degree where it was considerably less
fun to use my PC) and the disabling HT cores (+ reenabling them afterwards)
instantly fixes the issue for me! :-)
I am using an HP Elitebook 8440p with an NVIDIA Quadro NVS 3100M by the way.
Ubuntu 10.04, 64 Bit.

just out of curiosity, 0.12.5 works well, why not just use it?

even dist-upgrade to 10.10 which has 0.12.5 would probably be less
painful than having to test/deal with this bug.

[Bug 678430] Re: Could not determine type of stream totem shows the error messages

2011-01-28 Thread Exposure101
This bug also effects me, its not totem specific, its a problem with how
the codecs are reading the video. I am a very experienced ubuntu user
and this is beyond me...I am resorting to install every codec or video
player i can find in the repositories to try to figure out what is going
on...not much luck. This sucks.

[Bug 303965] Re: w3c-markup-validator is outdated

2011-01-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package w3c-markup-validator - 1.1-2

---
w3c-markup-validator (1.1-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Releasing to unstable

w3c-markup-validator (1.1-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * New maintainer rebuilt package from first principles (Closes: #573497)
  * Upgraded to upstream version 1.1 (Closes: #461021 and Closes: #437795)
  * Restricting dependency to apache2 until someone volunteers to do
integration for other web servers.
  * Changed dependency from w3c-dtd-xhtml and sgml-data to w3c-sgml-lib.
  * Basing apache config fragment on upstream supplied fragment. As a
consequence of this the home page is http://localhost/w3c-validator/.
(Closes: #456904).
  * Setting version dependency on libwww-perl after investigating taint issues
  * Replacing W3C placeholder logo with customized Debian logo.
  * Restricting support to http. This is a holding operation for #445265.
  * Reviewed and rewrote README.Debian (Closes: #549025).
  * Adding lintian override over inclusion of mootools convenience library.
  * Simplified install scripts as much as possible, though
leaving some abstraction in case there is a need to add support for more
webservers.
  * Removed dependency on wwwconfig-common.
  * Automatically enable mod_include and mod_rewrite before bouncing the
server (Closes: #477792).
  * The simplified install scripts mean that translation is no longer
required. In fact the translated text referred to old versions of Apache
that are no longer part of Debian. (Closes: #551185).

[Bug 709633] [NEW] luxrender needs packaging

2011-01-28 Thread Kip Warner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: luxrender

LuxRender is a free software rendering system for physically correct
image synthesis, licensed under the GPLv3.

It compiles natively under GNU for amd64 and i686. The latter has two
variants, the first requiring SSE2 extensions, but it is possible to
build a version for legacy i686 systems with only regular SSE
extensions. At the time of writing, I am not sure if these three
variants are all the possibilities, or if it is possible to build
unoptimized native generic binaries from source for other hardware like
mipsel, armel, etc..

[Bug 701259] Re: dell-laptop module hard blocks wifi on Dell Vostro 1520

2011-01-28 Thread Cody A.W. Somerville
I've finally got around to testing on lucid live cd. The issue is NOT
present and wireless works fine after using jockey to install driver.
This confirms that this a regression.

Some observations:

 1. /proc/modules shows that the dell-laptop module is indeed loaded:
dell_laptop 7941 0 - Live 0xa0065000
 2. rfkill list does not list any devices however.

Here is the output of modinfo dell-laptop on lucid:

$ modinfo dell_laptop

[Bug 635698] Re: encrypted home-folder not unlocked when login

2011-01-28 Thread Jonathan Marsden
I ran Lubuntu 10.10 in a virtualbox VM, added a user with an encrypted
home directory and demonstrated the original bug. Enabled -proposed,
updated the world, rebooted the VM, and verified I can now access that
encrypted home directory immediately after login.

Since I am running virtualbox-ose I cannot test the USB stick mount
issues relating to libpam-ck-connector directly. I confirm the proposed
lxdm package as a Conflicts: libpam-ck-connector entry, but that's as
far as I can go with testing that.

However, there is *another* rather nasty encryption-related issue that
appears, and I am not sure whether it is related to this fix or not:
after doing all the above (installed Lubuntu, update it, add a user with
an encrypted home, add -proposed to sources, update and upgrade, reboot,
verify encrypted home user now automounts his home), it seems that apt-
get autoremove tries to remove packages it should be leaving well alone:

sudo apt-get autoremove -s
[sudo] password for jonathan:
Reading package lists... Done

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  cryptsetup dmraid ecryptfs-utils keyutils libdebconfclient0

  python-pyicu python-webkit rdate reiserfsprogs
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 15 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

If a real (not simulated) apt-get remove is attempted after the user
with the encrypted home has logged in, bad things happen:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  cryptsetup dmraid ecryptfs-utils keyutils libdebconfclient0
  libdmraid1.0.0.rc16 libecryptfs0 linux-headers-2.6.35-22

Now autoremove just broke our dependencies, we have ecryptfs-utils
installed but not some of its dependencies keyutils and libecryptfs0 !
This is not supposed to happen!

At this point, logging back in as the user with the encrypted home
directory (user eh in my test, EH stands for Encrypted Home!) no longer
mounts his directory, and worse yet, trying to mount it manually
generates an error

  ecryptfs-mount-private

I rather doubt the proposed change to lxdm is responsible for this mess,
but... the end result after installing the updated lxdm and then doing
apt-get autoremove is *very* bad. My strong suspicion is that something
does not depend on ecryptfs-utils that really *needs* to depend on them.

Sorry I couldn't provide a clean green light verification, I hope this
information is useful in looking further at this.

[Bug 509384] Re: ubuntu-logo does not implement display_question callback

2011-01-28 Thread Markus Waas
I implemented the display_question callback. Also I increased the
distance between the bullets when asked for a password (was a little too
close). Just download the file and replace /lib/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-

[Bug 709611] [NEW] [natty] usb storage device/mouse is not mounted automatically

2011-01-28 Thread Stanz
Public bug reported:

To Complete Report & Logs, I'm redoing report:
[natty] usb storage device/mouse is not mounted automatically: Ubuntu,
“usbmount” package, Bug #709069.
That report will be converted to question if all works well here.

No usb or memory card devices are automounted at boot, or in desktop
'hot plugged' (if thats the term to use?).

[Bug 709069] Re: [natty] usb storage device/mouse is not mounted automatically

2011-01-28 Thread Stanz
Since install & with updates, It's not mounted any usb device or media card.
This is daily-live install. On my alternate install, when I installed pmount &
hal--it mounted other file systems on the disk--but still no usb or mem card.
I noticed the blank ' HotplugNewDevices:/HotplugNewMounts: ', figured I messed
up somewhere.
I'll re-run apport.

Being in development, I held back trying to install or troubleshoot,
figured a fix might be in future daily.

[Bug 599316] Re: keyboard starts repeating the last pressed key

2011-01-28 Thread Bob Thomas
I am having a problem with version 10.10 just tried to install on a
Pentium 4. Once I get to the who are you? screen as soon as I start to
type after about 4 or 5 characters it just repeats whatever key I press
at that time, no specific letter. It also happens when I try to detect
keyboard layout automatically. When it asks you to select different
letters it eventually locks up. When the window is closed using the
mouse and if I click on an entry box it then shows what key has been
repeating. It has happened everytime in the same screen now going on 4
intalls.
