- I open a doc and everything is ok about the headers. I save the doc in its
original format (word 97/2000/xp) and everything is ok and seems ok, but when i
open the doc the header of the first page substitute all the others, so the
page numbering is missed and every other information in headers. Additionally I
can't format in header page numpering on the left (or right) and some other
text in the middle.
- Thank you very much.
- I could sent you and screenshots to clarify the problem.

[Bug 725911] Re: Logitech wireless mouse recognition variable

2011-03-01 Thread James Pursey
Hi,

Thanks for the detailed instructions. I think it's very unlikely that
it's the mouse that's at fault. I never experienced this issue in
Maverick but the very day I installed the alpha 1 version of Natty the
recognition of the mouse became on and off. After a few weeks' using
Alpha 1 my wife started getting shirty with me over all the bugs, so I
re-installed Maverick. I had no problems at all for the three of four
weeks that I was using Maverick again. Then I installed alpha 2 of Natty
and after the very first reboot the mouse wasn't seen.

What's strange is the erratic nature of the bug (assuming it is a bug of
course). This morning, for example, the mouse was recognized on first
boot (whereas usually a reboot is necessary when I first turn on the
computer). I rebooted and it was still recognized. Then I shut down and
booted from cold - the mouse wasn't recognized any more.

I've run dmesg as you say, and I include it all here in case there's
anything I've missed, but I don't find the Logitech wireless mouse. I
find the PS/2 port and I find a USB mouse which presumably is the Labtec
one that I have plugged in port in case the wireless one isn't
recognized. When I've finished this post I'll keep rebooting the
computer until the mouse is seen again and run dmesg again. Anyway,
here's the dmesg output for this boot:

[Bug 726937] Re: app description does not re-expand after being shrunk in app list view

2011-03-01 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I could also observe the issue at revision 1549 but not with the latest
revision of the trunk (1556).
I bisected and it appears that the issue was somehow fixed with revision 1551,
even though to be honest I’m not sure how, seeing the diff.

thinking that its raid problem :)
and to reproduce (for me) only i've got to do is fresh ubuntu installation with
kvm.
i dont know, may be its up to my hardware specs and some of kvm / libvirt code
part. but the patch u've provided seems to solve the problem. so there must be

[Bug 723216] Re: cant directly add a ppa using the "Add" button

2011-03-01 Thread dino99
this report seems a dupe of Bug #721778 as the issue is the same. But
this bug seems to affect other software while using menu or clicking to
start those softwares: today, for the first time, Firefox refuse to
start from menu (nothing logged nor dialog errors shown) but start from
a terminal, some other soft start by clicking on their icons but take a
long time.

So this " UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc2 in
position 2: ordinal not in range(128)" error affect the whole system,
not only software-properties-gtk.

the ubuntu libbluray0 package currently ships these files:

/usr/lib/libbluray.so.0
/usr/lib/libbluray.so.0.0.0
/usr/share/doc/libbluray0/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/libbluray0/copyright
/usr/share/java/libbluray-0.2~git20110213.20739ed.jar
/usr/share/java/libbluray.jar

Does /usr/lib/libbluray.so.0 works at least somewhat without
/usr/share/java/libbluray.jar?

And moreover, should libbluray0 drag in libbluray-java by default or
not, read should that relationship be a Suggests or Recommends?

[Bug 692996] Re: No /etc/init.d script

2011-03-01 Thread Andreas Moog
The debian bug I just linked has pointers to discussion as to why the
init scripts got removed. I think the reasons for doing so are still
very good and the problems would outweigh the benefits. For those users
who really need to start a server (and have a clear understanding of the
security risk involved), there is a example init-script in the docs. I'm
inclined to set this report to "Won't Fix".

[Bug 621265] Re: Slow Wireless Connection in Intel 3945abg

2011-03-01 Thread Nandan Vaidya
So a security update for the kernel has arrived on Maverick which is
linux-image-generic-2.6.35-27.48

I have the 2.6.35-27 kernel posted in #270 . Correct me if wrong, but I
do not think those changes have been integrated in the update.

Since it is a security fix, not a standard bug fix update, and the USN mentions
several security fixes , I am really unsure of what to do.
Normally I would always install the security updates, but in this case ?

[Bug 727620] [NEW] [Radeon HD 5650] Driver crash during recovery boot

2011-03-01 Thread afoglia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I'm running natty, and every since the upgrade to 6.14.0 I've been
unable to consistently boot. After some discussion in the forums, I
tried repeatedly to boot into recovery mode. In most cases, I got a
black screen. One time though, when I was able to successfully increase
the brightness, I saw some errors from the radeon module. I took a
photo (available at http://i.imgur.com/P0bQ0.jpg), and here's the stack
and call trace, as best as I can read it:

[Bug 718620] Re: With HybridGraphics Xorg assert failure: X: ../../dix/pixmap.c:118: AllocatePixmap: Assertion `pScreen->totalPixmapSize > 0' failed.

2011-03-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package xserver-xorg-video-intel -
2:2.14.0-4ubuntu1

---
xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.14.0-4ubuntu1) natty; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining Ubuntu changes:
- debian/apport-gpu-error-intel.py:
- debian/control:
- debian/rules:
- debian/xserver-xorg-video-intel.install:
- debian/xserver-xorg-video-intel.udev
+ Add apport hook, triggered on udev GPU error event
- debian/control:
+ Drop [linux-any] qualifier on libudev-dev build-dep to work around
pbuilder bug.
- debian/patches/101_copy-fb.patch:
  + Plymouth integration patch
- debian/patches/107_solid_nullptr_check.patch:
+ Check null return from uxa_acquire_solid()
- debian/patches/109_dont_reconstruct_glyph_cache_on_rotate.patch:
+ Fix font corruption (missing glyphs) on rotated screens.
- debian/patches/110_warnings_cleanup.patch:
- debian/patches/114_warnings_cleanup_part_2.patch:
+ Cherry picks to fix a large number of build warnings.
- debian/patches/111_fix_clipped_window_plane_offset.patch:
- 112_fix_error_in_4c4ad555.patch:
+ Fix issue where vertical green line and strange colors shows up when
playing gstreamer with certain videos, when dragged. (LP 460677)
- debian/patches/113_remove_broken_max_base_addresses.patch:
+ Fixes GPU lockup during login with
 "Bad length (4) in MI_DISPLAY_BUFFER_INFO, [3, 3]" error messages
listed in the gpu dump text. (LP 710321)
- debian/patches/115_quell_vblank_counter_failed.patch:
  + Don't fill up Xorg.0.log with
"get vblank counter failed: Invalid argument" warnings.
 5 is enough. (LP 710594)
- debian/xserver-xorg-video-intel.preinst.in:
- debian/xserver-xorg-video-intel.postinst.in:
+ Remove obsolete /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf file on upgrades. KMS
is the kernel default.
  * Pull prerequisite commit into
109_dont_reconstruct_glyph_cache_on_rotate.patch. We mostly didn't notice
because the copy-fb codepath initialises the resources itself. Fixes
Pixmap assert on Xserver startup when copy-fb fails, such as on hybrid
graphics systems. (LP: #718620)
  * debian/control:
- Dropped Ubuntu change: remove a bunch of Conflicts/Replaces against
  packages last seen in Hardy.

xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.14.0-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * Cherry-pick from upstream:
- uxa: Fallback if the temporary is too large
  * This fixes a null pointer dereference with some rendering operations
involving large pictures (Closes: #613830). Thanks, Enrico!

xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.14.0-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Switch to dh:
- Use debhelper 8.
- Use dh-autoreconf.
- Bump xserver-xorg-dev build-dep for dh_xsf_substvars and xsf
  debhelper sequence.
- Specify usr/share/man in .install, remove .manpages accordingly.
- Specify NEWS and README in .docs file.
  * Get rid of maintainer scripts, since they were only used to handle
switching between versions with or without KMS. Starting with squeeze,
KMS is mandatory, so stop worrying about that.
  * Remove xsfbs accordingly.
  * Remove leftovers:
- NEWS file is outdated, UMS is no longer available, and that's
  covered by README.Debian
- The .install.hurd-i386 file is no longer relevant, this package is
  now Linux-only.
  * Update Uploaders list. Thanks, David & Brice!
  * Remove long obsolete Replaces.
  * Wrap Depends/Provides/Recommends.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.1 (no changes needed).

xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.14.0-2) experimental; urgency=low

  * Cherry-pick from upstream to fix many rendering issues
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33650):
- uxa: Undo damage translation before appending

[Bug 711534] Re: euca-upload-bundle fails when connecting to Eucalyptus and a path in bucket is specified

2011-03-01 Thread Neil Soman
The command specified in the bug report doesn't work with AWS S3 unless
the user has actually created the bucket somehow. I just tested this.

For instance, if you use the option "-b mybucket/abcd/efgh" S3 will
correctly interpret this request (PUT to mybucket/abcd/efgh) as an empty
put to the bucket "mybucket" with the keyname "abcd/efgh." Which is
correct behavior.

The user must have already have a bucket, "mybucket." Otherwise the key
"abcd/efgh" cannot be created because the bucket does not exist. Before
the key can be created, the bucket needs to be created with a PUT to
"mybucket"

"/"s are not allowed in the bucket name. The "/" is interpreted as part
of the key. The bucket must exist for that key to be created.

So the bug report is partly right and partly wrong.

The real bug is that Walrus should be returning a 404 and not a 400 when
someone tries to access "mybucket/abcd/efgh" if the bucket does not
exist.

The command will not work on S3 or against Walrus if the bucket (the
part of the string before the first "/") was never created, but the
right error to send back is a 404 (no such bucket) and not a 400 (bad
request).

This is fixed in revno 1257 in lp:eucalyptus.

Hope all this makes sense,
neil

If this were a support forum I'd agree, but the usage pattern for a bug
tracker is different, and actually general practice is to keep bug
reports as fine grained as possible.

Especially with hardware problems like KVM switches it's not uncommon to
need a separate fix for each specific type of device. In this sort of
situation, it's really helpful to have each person's problem as a
separate bug report, so as we generate or locate patches we can keep
track of which KVMs still need attention and which are solved.

Also, bug trackers tend to make it really cheap and easy to dupe
multiple bug reports, whereas splitting one bug report out into several
isn't possible. So even in the case where everyone's KVM scroll lock
issue was identical, it's not hard for us developers to quickly verify
this, and then easily mark them as dupes. Then, if later on we find
we've made a mistake we can undupe bugs on a case by case basis and
carry on.

Anyway, I'm belaboring the point. But trust me, it really does help to
have separate bug reports for each person and each particular piece of
hardware. :-)

> Moreover "scroll lock doesn't work in ubuntu" on a search engine is

> experience in one place.

Actually, if the bug is closed, the search engine will still be able to
link to it, so that's not a problem.

But I think what you are wanting in this case would be best served as a
discussion thread on a technical support forum such as askubuntu.com or
the ubuntu forums, which I think would be a really good idea.
Meanwhile, in the bug tracker we really should just focus development
efforts towards *fixing* the bug.

attempted to allocate too much memory. You might try running the upgrade

Another oddity about your log is that it appears ca-certificates-java

[Bug 727610] [NEW] multiple errors USB, graphics, skype, control bar...

2011-03-01 Thread derek s
Public bug reported:

error 1: USB won't work properly. first drive won't show, but second
will. need first to see second flash drive. works in reverse order also.

error 2:graphics wont work. need to go into fail-safe mode to
reconfigure graphics for nvidia geforce 7000m graphics card, before
boot, or the screen will flicker as the computer attempts to use the
card with what i assume are bad settings.

error 3:skype does not use the camera/mic properly all the time, it will
work one or the other or both or neither, requires multiple restart to
function correctly. this is true for both 10.10 and 12.04.

error 4: the control bar at the top of the screen with stop working on
occasion, it will disappear and i will need to restart by cutting power to my
laptop.
 ---low
priority---
I dislike that the control bar is at the top, and that the programs settings
and buttons are located in the control bar. as an optional update i feel that
others may agree, as in problem 4 i cant exit all programs and others are
harder to exit from.

also when i upgraded i lost apps that were in the control bar and have
not been able to put them back as i can not accses these settings and
still have yet to figure out how.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

2011-03-01 Thread Daudi Amani
Latest kernel update to 2.6.35-27 still has same issue .. is anyone
seeing this issue? Four kernel upgrades have occurred since the NV79
Backlight power off issue has been logged? Is this the wrong forum for
these issues?? I would like to use the later kernels but cannot because
the LIGHTS ARE OFF on the display. It worked on kernel 2.6.32.27 .. so
it has got to be something simple that was changed.

[Bug 619981] Re: mono apps crash on omap4 due to no smp support for armel

2011-03-01 Thread Michael Casadevall
This has been fixed in git for mono 2.10 with implementation of
OP_MEMORY_BLOCK in the ARM JIT. With this patch, most of the mono test
suite passes with only two regressions, but due to issues with the
Ubuntu toolchain, mono upstream is requesting that we test against
Debian sid to disprove the Ubuntu toolchain as the source of these
regressions. Since Ubuntu is shipping 2.6, as are all the support
libraries, there is no sane way to test banshee against this version of
mono to determine if the regression has been truly passed, but the
massive improvement on test suite results is encouraging.

Currently, the in-archive mono is still affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-4.5/+bug/721531 - I have
not been able to isolate the workaround committed to our version of
mono.

[Bug 727603] [NEW] /var/lib/dpkg/info/$arch still a directory on new installs

2011-03-01 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dpkg

debootstrap unpacks base packages in alphabetical order:

I: Unpacking required packages...
I: Unpacking adduser...
I: Unpacking base-files...
I: Unpacking base-passwd...
I: Unpacking bash...
I: Unpacking bsdutils...
I: Unpacking busybox-initramfs...

I: Unpacking dash...
I: Unpacking debconf...
I: Unpacking debconf-i18n...
I: Unpacking debianutils...
I: Unpacking diffutils...
I: Unpacking dpkg...

So before the dpkg preinst script has ever been run, a number of other
packages have been unpacked - autocreating /var/lib/dpkg/info/$arch as a
directory in the process. So any new installs with this version of dpkg
are going to have a directory instead of a symlink.

This may be related to some of the problems still being reported for
alpha 3 on the preinstalled images.

Hi,

I agree with you that this is an obsolete package, but you still have one
package that rdepends on it and is still installable right now: tuxonice-userui.
It seems that Debian has already removed it, so it seems logical to do the same
in Ubuntu.

Subscribing archive admin to get their opinion.
