[Bug 554263] Re: [uvcvideo causes ehci_hcd to force halt]Trying to use built-in webcam in certain notebooks/laptops breaks other USB devices

2011-03-01 Thread AidanThornton
I think the list of things that are common between reports is more like
a) Motherboard with AMD SB600 southbridge
b) USB webcam using the uvcvideo driver
c) A USB wireless adapter (or possibly any other USB high speed device that's
in active use - see below).
d) USB controller errors, cutting off access to all USB high speed devices
including the webcam and wireless, when trying to ACCESS webcam. Connecting new
USB devices may also fail.

Everyone also has 64-bit CPUs, but since they're the only kind used with
this motherboard chipset that's not terribly surprising. There's also a
lot of AMD/ATI graphics cards, but that seems most likely to be a
coincidence.

I actually encountered this issue on Gentoo with 046d:0809 Logitech,
Inc. Webcam Pro 9000 and a 2040:7070 Hauppauge Nova-T Stick 3 and
found this bug report when Googling for solutions, so it's neither
Ubuntu-specific nor just restricted to USB wireless adapters.

[Bug 727093] [NEW] Wrong date format - does not honor en_AU locale

2011-03-01 Thread Stuart Bishop
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tasque

Tasque 0.1.9 in Maverick formats its dates in US format when I'm in the
en_AU locale.

Per Bug #371414, this is unfortunetly handled using pofiles, so is
likely incorrect for many other locales too (the US default is
unsuitable for pretty much every other locale). But this bug report is
specifically about the en_AU locale rather than any other locale or the
meta issue of obtaining the necessary format from Gnome.

[Bug 727092] [NEW] Samba is not built against CTDB

2011-03-01 Thread Dan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

The documentation in the Samba package states that it works correctly
with CTDB. The man page explains the options for use with CTDB, and they
are accepted by the Samba demon. However, Samba in Ubuntu is built
without CTDB support.

There are two possible fixes to this:
 - fix the documentation
 - include CTDB in Main and build Samba with CTDB support

[Bug 727091] [NEW] Select on table with two colums cause empty result.

2011-03-01 Thread Marcin Grzymski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mysql-server-5.1

Table with two integer columns and separate indexes on each column can cause
problems
during select with conditions on both columns.
Selecting with condition on one column works ok but multiple columns in same
time
generate empty result.

Creating index on two columns fixes results from select.
Version 5.0 works fine in that case.

Looks like bug has been fixed in 5.1.54 + .

This prevents me from creating the source package.  The command is still
run using the non-debug version of python2.7, so hopefully this isn't an
issue.  I have commented out the python2.7-dbg line from debian/rules.

What about trying to triage the problem, identify the culprit and fix
it, instead of work around it?

[Bug 698097] Re: Suspend stopped working on Thinkpad X200s with 2.6.35-24

2011-03-01 Thread Andy Whitcroft
There are two aspects here, fixing this in Maverick and ensure it is
fixed in Natty when that releases. Could those of you who are able
could you either test a Natty kernel on your Maverick system or test a
current Natty daily ISO. We have had specific fixes for both
suspend/resume and for tpm related issues for Lenovo systems in general.
This will help us ensure Natty is fixed in this regard, and will help us
identify any fixes for Maverick. Please report any testing back here.

[Bug 727098] [NEW] Place Windows sporadically fails to set fixed viewport on windows started by Startup Applications

2011-03-01 Thread Bayle Shanks
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-desktop

I placed some terminals, firefox, and emacs in Startup Applications. I
used Compiz's Place Windows functionality to tell Compiz to place these
windows on specific viewports. I verified that starting the application
manually caused the window to be placed appropriately. However, logging
out and logging back in, the windows were not placed appropriately.
Specifically, one of my startup applications is

/usr/bin/gnome-terminal --title 'Term 3'

and I have a Place Windows-Windows with fixed viewport rule with
precondition title=Term 3 that places the window at position 3,1. This
rule seems to work every time when I execute /usr/bin/gnome-terminal
--title 'Term 3' during the session, but it only works sporadically on
the Term 3 window that appears at startup.

My initial hypothesis is that Startup Applications started the
applications before Compiz was ready, and then Compiz Place Windows did
not want to move windows that already existed.

This would be useful because if it worked, Place Windows could be a
partial replacement for session saving, which has been removed (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/726431 )

Thanks

[Bug 723482] Re: system hangs on boot after updates from 2011-02-22

2011-03-01 Thread Sébastien Bernard
I tried to setup a natty server in a Virtualbox machine.
Unfortunately, the VM is working OK.
I'm now trying to setup a maverick then upgrade to natty to see if it gonna
break.
Stay tuned.

[Bug 584266] Re: [STAGING] maverick amd64 regression: can not connect to ad-hoc WEP WLAN

2011-03-01 Thread Wolfgang Kufner
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 659143 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/659143

** Description changed:

+ STATUS: (2011-03-01)
+ fixed rt2800pci is now in maverick-proposed
+
  SUMMARY UPDATE:
This bug touches on two different drivers for the same hardware. The in
kernel, preferred rt2800pci and the rt2860sta from staging (which linux
wireless developers are not happy with, but is needed where the rt2800pci does
not yet work):
In maverick the rt2800pci driver (rt2x00 project) is the default driver for
this hardware. This driver also works in ad hoc mode. This works well on 32
bit. On 64 bit this driver does not work because of the 64bit-only bug 659143
(load_firmware: Error). If that bug were fixed ad hoc would hopefully work as
well for 64bit and _for_this_particular_hardware nothing more would have to be
done.
The default driver for lucid for this hardware was rt2860sta (version
1.8.1.1) from staging, which could do ad hoc. In maverick rt2860sta (version
2.1.0.0) is included and can be used by blacklisting the default rt2800pci.
Maverick's version of the rt2860sta fails in ad hoc mode. I have compiled the
latest GPL driver ralink provides on their website. It is version 2.4.0.0 and
works well in ad hoc mode. (The release notes for that version mention: Fix
Adhoc issue. (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/594866/comments/11).)

  REFERENCES:
The version of the rt2860sta driver can by found in
drivers/staging/rt2860/rt_linux.h #define STA_DRIVER_VERSION statement.

(With WPA it did not work in lucid either. Connecting to a router in
infrastructure mode with WPA works well.)

[Bug 726431] Re: session saving (wishlist)

2011-03-01 Thread Bayle Shanks
thanks, no, I don't plan to work on it, I'm just interested in the
feature, particularly for window placement (I'm less interested in
resumption of state within the application).

At the current time, I know of no way in Ubuntu 11.04 to have
applications startup automatically upon login and appear at specified
Compiz viewports. Devilspie apparently can only send windows to the
first row of Compiz viewports (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/devilspie/+bug/380880 ), and
Compiz's Place Windows feature only works sporadically on windows
created by Startup Applications (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/727098 ).

[Bug 727104] [NEW] Desktop Wall Edge Flip Pointer stops working until you drag a window

2011-03-01 Thread Bayle Shanks
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Whenever i open CompizConfig Settings Manager (i suspect there are other
ways to trigger the problem also), Edge Flip Pointer stops working (the
problem persists even if i then close the CompizConfig window) -- if i
move the cursor to the edge of the screen, i don't flip to the next
viewport. Dragging any window fixes the problem (even attempting to alt-
drag a maximized window), and then if move the pointer to the edge of
the screen, it flips normally again.

Thanks

[Bug 727112] [NEW] nvidia-current does not detect hardware capabilities correctly

2011-03-01 Thread Daniel Knittl-Frank
Public bug reported:

nvidia-current is unable to use two monitors in full resolution (wuxga +
full hd), one will always stay blank. looking into xorg.log, i can see
something like:

[ 89444.991] (WW) NVIDIA(0): Due to hardware capability constraints,
disabling display
[ 89444.991] (WW) NVIDIA(0): device Seiko/Epson (DFP-0) in MetaMode
[ 89444.991] (WW) NVIDIA(0):
CRT-0:nvidia-auto-select@1920x1080+1920+0,DFP-0:1920x1200@1920x1200+0+0.

the same configuration works with nvidia-173, so nvidia-current might
not be detecting hardware capabalities correctly. nvidia-173 feels a bit
slower than nvidia-current, so i'd like to use nvidia-current. my
graphics card is `01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation
G86M [Quadro FX 360M] (rev a1)`

i'll be glad to give further information, this has bugged me for quite a
while. i'm currently running natty, but i've seen this bug since nvidia-
current was introduced

[Bug 727114] [NEW] nmap only recognizes IPv6 resolvers by specifying --system-dns

2011-03-01 Thread /usr/local/dick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nmap

I recently configured our 10.04 LTS systems to use only IPv6 resolvers:

root@cajones:~# cat /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 2001:610:148:dead::4
nameserver 2001:610:158:98d::42
domain terena.org

nmap complains since:

root@cajones:~# nmap -sP putin.terena.org

Starting Nmap 5.00 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2011-03-01 12:43 CET
mass_dns: warning: Unable to determine any DNS servers. Reverse DNS is
disabled. Try using --system-dns or specify valid servers with --dns-servers
Host 192.87.38.10 is up (0.00032s latency).
Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 0.32 seconds

If I use --system-dns no complaints:

root@cajones:~# nmap --system-dns -sP putin.terena.org

Starting Nmap 5.00 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2011-03-01 12:43 CET
Host putin.terena.org (192.87.38.10) is up (0.00025s latency).
Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 0.37 seconds

Manually specifying the resolvers however does not seem to work either:

root@cajones:~# nmap --dns-servers
2001:610:148:dead::4,2001:610:158:98d::42 -sP putin.terena.org

Starting Nmap 5.00 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2011-03-01 12:46 CET
mass_dns: warning: Unable to determine any DNS servers. Reverse DNS is
disabled. Try using --system-dns or specify valid servers with --dns-servers
Host 192.87.38.10 is up (0.00028s latency).
Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 0.36 seconds
