[Bug 656646] Re: transient network/keyscan issues
I've had som emore experience with this, and it is definitely true that running ssh-keyscan host1 host2 host3 host4 can end up giving output only for a small number of hosts because a single host fails. During one case where this was failing, i did (manually) $ ssh-keyscan -t rsa,dsa ec2-67-202-18-160.compute-1.amazonaws.com ec2-184-72-94-230.compute-1.amazonaws.com ec2-75-101-179-107.compute-1.amazonaws.com ... # ec2-67-202-18-160.compute-1.amazonaws.com SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.8p1 Debian-1ubuntu1 ec2-67-202-18-160.compute-1.amazonaws.com ssh-dss B3N... # ec2-67-202-18-160.compute-1.amazonaws.com SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.8p1 Debian-1ubuntu1 ec2-67-202-18-160.compute-1.amazonaws.com ssh-rsa B3NzaC1y... # ec2-184-72-94-230.compute-1.amazonaws.com SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.8p1 Debian-1ubuntu1 Connection closed by 184.72.94.230 There were several other hosts to scan (13), but the failure of 'Connection closed' on the third host ends up failing. I had assumed from the man page of ssh-keyscan: "ssh-keyscan uses non-blocking socket I/O to contact as many hosts as possible in parallel, so it is very efficient. The keys from a domain of 1,000 hosts can be collected in tens of seconds, even when some of those hosts are down or do not run ssh." that a failure on one host would not indicate the others, but it appears that is not the case. So, in the case where I saw large number of ssh-keyscan failures, they are in fact linked to 2 failure. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/656646 Title: transient network/keyscan issues -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 600749] Re: cannot change password with a similar one
This bug is in the pam package and introduced by the quilt patch "007_modules_pam_unix". It appears to be intentional, but incorrect behavior. The code has this comment: /* The traditional crypt() truncates passwords to 8 chars. > Has every instance of this bug involved ssh in the stack trace? All the ones we've had to date. I initially thought it was apparmor related because it mentions memory allocation etc but having removed the packages and rebuilt initramfs I guess not. If it happens again from now on, I'll make sure we always get a photo. > Can you describe the software raid stack in detail? It's really simple. 4x 2TB drives, each with a 2 partitons, the first being 2GB and the remainder. sda1 and sdb1 are RAID1 as /boot, sdc1 and sdd1 are RAID1 for swap and the sda2,b2,c2,d2 are RAID5 as / Currently the / filesystem is about 70% full. > My first guess would be that OCFS is to blame. Would it be possible to > run this server for awhile without it, or is that impossible? Can you > either do without the SAN, or mount it as another fs type? It's not possible really. The machine only mounts a snapshot of our live SAN via iSCSI once a week to copy over virtual machine images. It TENDS to lock up at those times, however it's also by far the busiest time on the box as it'll be running rsnapshot backups at the same time too. It's not unsual for the box to have 180% IO WAIT across the two CPUs at those times. We've put more RAM in the box again this week to see if that solves it. I'm wondering if it's starting to swap to the point that the box is getting overloaded. Time will tell if that has any effect. It's hard because munin gives some idea of things like load/memory usage as the box loads up, but isn't frequent enough to catch a spike! [Bug 728046] [NEW] Banshee opens volume slider partiall off-screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: banshee With a maximised Banshee window, clicking on the pop-up volume control in the top-right hand corner will open the volume-slider partially obscured off the top of the screen. The issue is because the slider popup is opened centered around the position of the mouse pointer at the point that the button is clicked. Ideally the popup should be bounded to the current screen edges when it is positioned and displayed. It is not specifically related to maximisation or placement at the top of the screen; the issue can also be demonstrated by moving the Banshee window toolbar level with the bottom of the screen and clicking to activate the popup similarly. ** Affects: banshee (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/728046 Title: Banshee opens volume slider partiall off-screen -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 728047] [NEW] smbd + ldap hangs at startup after update
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: samba we have samba running with ldap authentication. After today's update apparently ldap is started before samba which causes samba to log these warnings: [2011/03/02 21:58:50, 0] smbd/server.c:1069(main) smbd version 3.4.7 started. A service smdb restart fixes the problem but it will reoccur on each reboot. for now, we have found a workaround: simply added sleep 5 ; service smbd restart to /etc/rc.local but this of course does not fix the underlying problem. [Bug 704279] Re: xorg warn about missing fonts 75dpi
It looks like the place this would need fixed is in the configure flags in debian/rules: confflags_main = \ --with-default-font-path="/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc,/usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic,/usr/share/fonts/X11/100\ dpi/:unscaled,/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled,/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1,/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi,/usr/sha\ re/fonts/X11/75dpi,/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType,built-ins" \ However, if I understand correctly, removing the 75dpi and 100dpi paths from this flag would result in the packages not working if someone chose to manually install them. So, despite the ugliness of the warnings I think we gotta keep these paths there until the fonts are removed from universe entirely. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/704279 Title: xorg warn about missing fonts 75dpi -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
