[Bug 556782] Re: [rs690m] Graphics corruption with ati x1200
I still have this problem in Natty. Badly. The "radeon modeset=0" (disabling KMS) workaround still works, sortof. It reduces the frequency/amount of corruption. However, the underlying problem is still there. ..and with Natty as it is, disabling KMS also disables compositing, unlike with Maverick. At this point, the default install of Ubuntu is effectively useless for many on Radeon rs690m (a fairly common card), and has limited functionality if you apply the workaround. Even though it's not currently reflected on Launchpad (tracking of the fd.o bugzilla seems to be borked currently), freedesktop.org has closed that bug as 'fixed'. However, this didn't seem certain (you can look at the bug yourself to see what I mean). I don't know if it is actually fixed, and I can't test it as I don't know the process of getting code from freedesktop.org into a compiled binary. Jerome Glisse, who closed the bug on freedesktop.org said that we shouldn't open another bug report with them on this issue until I (or someone else with the problem) can get that done. Niklas: this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1698956) also discovered the cookie issue. Apparently, the cookie PREF, with a value of 'fv=' is at fault. if you prevent this cookie from being set, or manually set it to an older version of flash and prevent it from being overwritten, the videos will play normally. The speculation is that youtube uses the value of this cookie to determine what format stream to send out, Perhaps youtube is supporting some new feature in 10.2, which doesn't work correctly on Ubuntu. [Bug 729386] Re: [Natty] DRI2 fails with x1200, compositing broken
Just to clarify -- In Maverick, Xorg was working (well enough), with compositing, with KMS off (and only with KMS off). Now, compositing doesn't work with KMS off. If I turn KMS on, compositing does work, but the amount of cross-program graphics corruption makes the system unusable, both with Maverick and with Natty. However, there is corruption either way, whether or not KMS is running, and regardless of whether or not compositing is working. There is simply a workable amount of corruption when KMS is disabled. I guess the point of this particular bug is: KMS now seems to be required for compositing to work. Is that a bug, or intentional? If it is intentional, then this bug can be closed as invalid. The corruption issue is open elsewhere. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/729386 Title: [Natty] DRI2 fails with x1200, compositing broken -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 669820] Re: Cannot set brightness or contrast
Hi Andy, Thanks for the patch. Some feedback: - Does your scanner support these options? Could you provide the output of simple-scan -d when running it? (To see what numbers your driver expects). - You should only set the setting if it's not the default - otherwise leave it to the driver to choose - The GUI should have sliders, not numbers (i.e. "darker |- lighter") - The selected value should be scaled to what the driver expects. e.g. a driver might have a contrast setting from 0-100, or -100 to 100. We need to see how most drivers behave. (This is why it's important not to set the value if it's not configured - 0 might be 0 contrast, or default contrast). I'm a little worried about how consistent drivers are with these settings, but I support the patch if it works. This setting will be "advanced" as most users will adjust the brightness/contrast after the scan is completed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/669820 Title: Cannot set brightness or contrast -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 682262] Re: Linux on Thinkpad x61s doesn't suspend when booted in docking station (does if not though)
I'm having the same problem with the stable maverick kernel: ~$ uname -a Linux thinkpad 2.6.35-27-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 22 20:25:46 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux ~$ cat /proc/version_signature Ubuntu 2.6.35-27.48-generic 2.6.35.11 When booted in the docking station, suspend fails both while in the docking station and while undocked from the docking station. If I boot the laptop outside of the docking station, suspend works fine. Disabling the serial and parallel port in the BIOS fixes the problem, but I would like to be able to use the serial port and parallel port on the docking station. Here is the dmesg output from a failed attempt: [277157.770373] Freezing user space processes ... (elapsed 0.02 seconds) done. [277157.792612] Freezing remaining freezable tasks ... [Bug 729307] Re: YouTube videos play red
I know my comments are pretty much covered by #7, Sergio, above. Just thought I expand on that. There are not many cookies involved, but one of them does something that "pinkifies" Flash video embedded on the main YouTube interface, but not externally linked or popped out video. Plus. It obviously affects more than one version of the Flash plugin. What is needed right now is someone who understands Youtube cookies. I don't. At least not good enough. Disabling cookies is not a viable solution. Expecting everyone and their grandmother to disable cookies / turn off HW acceleration / use popout / use Minitube is not a good solution. Casual users are more likely to just diss Ubuntu. How do you communicate more directly with YouTube devs? Their help forums seems to be mostly about users helping users. How do you file a formal bug report? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/729307 Title: YouTube videos play red -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 727232] Re: lernid crashed with ImportError in /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7/desktopcouch/records/server.py: No module named application.server
There's a good chance that I'm not understanding how python dependencies should be working, but just in case... In revision 40 of lp:ubuntu/desktopcouch on 1/12/11 dependencies were reorganized. In particular, python-desktopcouch-records no longer depends on the desktopcouch binary package. However, python- desktopcouch-records does import from python-desktop-application in line 9 of its deprecated desktopcouch.records.server.py and python-desk- application requires desktopcouch in /usr/share/pyshared/desktopcouch/application/local_files.py in lines 43-48. (python-desktop-application doesn't depend on the desktopcouch binary, so even if the application instead depended upon python- desktopcouch-application and imported d...application.server rather than d...record.server, a problem would remain in its local_files.py). [Bug 730052] Re: Documentation for installing phpMyAdmin incomplete
I have just tried again with the same result. I started with: sudo apt-get remove phpmyadmin Removed "Include /etc/phpmyadmin/apache.conf" from /etc/apache2/apache2.conf sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart And then: sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin Going to http://localhost/phpmyadmin in my browser i get: The requested URL /phpmyadmin was not found on this server. As far as i can see Apache wasn't started during the phpMyAdmin installation, so i restart Apache and still get: The requested URL /phpmyadmin was not found on this server. Adding "Include /etc/phpmyadmin/apache.conf" and /etc/apache2/apache2.conf and restarting Apache and i have the login page for phpMyAdmin. [Bug 713867] Re: Live-CD and Installed Ubuntu freeze on boot with GeForce 210 / Nouveau
The cut and paste below was my comment on your other bug. So i just wanted to include it. This bug posting though explains exactly what was happing to me right down to the blinking _ in the upper left and freezing, however for me it also kicks off the display completely and am presented with a no connected device message on my screen. The reason why there is nothing you can do to get out of it (exept powerdown the pc or wait as after a few minutes it will restart itself) is because at the time the display crashed it was also brining down your keyboard. The keyboard would normally be brought back up right after display did not load the keyboard did not boot up. You will notice when this happens by all the keyboard lights going out. I came to this conclusion after realising in a working install environment the keyboard is brought down and back up right before gdm kicks in. # CUT/PASTE my comment on bug #661235 # You wouldn't by any chance have a dual display set-up or be using a non VGA connection are you. [Bug 687689] Re: Audacity ruins bluetooth
Thanks for your reply. Sorry it took so long for mine. And I apologize for my negative tone before. I was pretty irritated at the time and it was rude. I am pleased to say that with a fresh install of the 11.04 Ubuntu Alpha 3 release I was able to try out bluetooth again on my new PC and it seems to be perfectly happy with Audacity. Audacity is still a bit dodgy, but after a bit of fiddling, creating a symbolic link from /var/lib/alsa/asound.state to /dev/null and a reboot it is all working. It can playback and record over bluetooth using pulseaudio without too much drama. [Bug 259219] Re: Broken TLS support in libGL.so
It looks a lot like initial-exec is inappropriate for libGL. At least, it is incompatible with being able to dlopen libGL. Wow, that's very strange Timo, have tested it on 2 separate installs in my eeepc 901, and neither is an issue. [Bug 732410] [NEW] flac decoding is broken in some manner for gstreamer
Public bug reported: This bug leads to poor performance and poor audio quality. Audio quality issues involve popping sounds, scratch sounds, pausing, silence, and other sound quality issues with any application that uses gstreamer. These applications include totem, banshee, nautilus (audio preview), and gst123. It sounds like the audio is cutting out, as if the one of the volume sliders was cranked way too high or something like that. The symptoms manifest themselves as buffer underruns or poor performance with pusleaudio. It seems that pulseaudio must continuously loop back to correct sound issues. This is not noticeable when using pulseaudio in it's default configuration as it's able to compensate for you. Probably the same for Alsa. When I am using the a52 alsa plugin to send audio to a receiver over SPDIF, however I have poor audio performance. The problem appears to still exist regardless, but it is masked. Originally I thought it was Banshee that was causing the poor audio performance. Then I traced it down to pulseaudio, but now I believe it's a issues with gstreamer itself. While searching for existing bugs I noticed a number of gstreamer applications that are exhibiting poor behavior when using flac, but it is not apparent why this is. I may have located it. The reason why I think it's a bug with gstreamer and not pulseaudio is because I can play the same files just perfectly using non-gstreamer applications like VLC or mplayer. I can also re-encode flac files as Ogg Vorbis files and they play just fine. I understand that playing through the a52 encoder plugin is not a supported configuration, but I think it's just making the problems surface and not the core cause of the issue. When selecting 'Analog Stereo Output' and while running 'pulseaudio -vv' I receive copious amounts of output that resemble this: D: sink-input.c: Have to rewind 1036 bytes on implementor. I agree with Colin, I think the terms fit with the rest of the documentation. The Server Guide to this point has been written with people new to Ubuntu in mind to help them get up and running with Ubuntu Server as quickly as possible.
